All the hashira’s were requested to attend the usual meeting by master Kagaya Ubuyashiki, apparently a kid Tanjiro Kamado had been traveling with his demon sister Nezuko for some time now.

As the Hashira of the senses, with your fastness and ability to predetermínate your opponent steps, you were requested to be there, but being a hashira was never on your plans.

Your bad feeling that something would be wrong the night that your family died would never leave you. If only you had to said something about what you sensed that day, they would be alive today.

You saw all the fellow Hashira members and nood at them. You where happy to see them but this meeting had you an special sense about it, you just couldn’t figure out what it was.

After the presentation of Sanemi trying to provoke Nezuko, something in you changed, almost like a stroke directly to your heart, hope mixed with mourning.

With that feeling in you, the meeting for only Hashira begun.

“Has this kid made a difference in the trails of our destiny yet?” There was the question that often haunted you, and the question you were disappointed not being able to respond to your master.

“No” you said with discomfort, you where the only one who could receive fragments from the future, and yet you had nothing more than noises that sounded like whispers.

“Hmmm I have a feeling that this might change���”

“Forgive me master” you fell into the ground with disappointment in yourself, the other hashira where surprised, you had never behaved like this before.

“This is so sad, they do not have the strength to tell us the truth” Gyomei said crying.

“She is strong enough, but she does not want us to know!” Shinobu proclaimed.

“We are hashira, we can handle a simple truth, but please let it be flashy!” Tengen stated with his arms crossed and his cooky smile.

“Stop commenting in a conversation that isn’t yours! Let the master speak!” Sanemi added angry that the master was interrupted.

“The clouds are moving faster now” Muichiro said out loud, as usual in his own word.

“Speak freely, please” the master said to you with his usual calmness.

You were not able to see so far into the future, most of times you were only able to see little fragments of the future, although these sometimes could be confused with fragments of someone’s past or even their ancestors.

Then the screams of all the hashira hit you like a train, making yourself start trembling noticeably.

“Are you okay?” Rengoku asked with his usual happy smile but a little worry in his eyes, he was a good friend and a great hashira.

Hearing Kyōjurō’s voice only added a small fragment of him smiling with a closed eye and blood all over his face, you could see the reflection of the kid, Tanjiro Kamado in Rengoku’s open eye.

You looked directly to the master, with a trembling voice stating “A difference will be made, we might be the ones to win, but to win some will have to l-loose” your body could only feel the pain and guilt of hearing your fellow hashira in pain.

“Hmm, I see” the master said with their usual calmness.

“I’m sorry master, I don’t have much, just voice-“ you stopped talking once the master lifter their hand so you stop speaking more.

“I understand, you are not a response for our future dear, please do not provide us any information if this could interfere with our destiny to kill Muzan Kibutsuji”

it's based on "the night parade of a hundred demons", where a whole bunch of supernatural creatures parade into the real world. it's pretty iconic imagery to me, and the two most immediate examples i have of it being referenced is jjk's s2 op2 and the bridge crossing scene in spirited away.

other fun facts: the moon in the back is a waxing moon (one of the translations for kizuki/upper moon) and is visually inspired by botw's blood moon; hantengu is holding gyokko's vase lol; the character on their lamps is the one that denotes their being an upper moon, so they all have it in their eye as well.

In that part of the series where Akaza tells Douma to not touch him, and he responds with that iconic expression, do you think he was upset or maybe just shocked?

// Neither, if I'm honest, but that also depends on interpretation. I write Douma as someone who isn't inherently violent or prone to violence. But he is cruel. And his behavior towards Akaza, to me, demonstrates that. So! Let's dissect the anime version of the scene together :D ( because it's easier and because I prefer the artwork OAWIEFJA )

Douma took the second spot from Akaza in spite of being 1/3rd of his age and not remotely as skilled with martial arts or as diligent as a Kizuki. That's a huge blow to Akaza's ego. So Akaza is, predictably, very sour about it and Douma knows that he hates him and doesn't respect him at all. Hell, Akaza is even aloof towards other demons and prefers the company of humans ( RED FLAG!!! ) That's what at the foundation of their interaction. And when approaching him, Douma knows all of this. He might lack empathy but he's not stupid.

Now, a part of the fandom argues that Douma just wanted to make friends here. And in part I do subscribe to the idea, in the way that this is Douma's only way of trying to connect with others. But, there's two points I'd like to make that paint this interaction in a different light, because to me it's not as innocuous as it seems.

Douma has essentially never been treated as if he's on the same level as others and has learned to present a superificially kind and amicable face. In the cult, as the Lord Founder, Douma is always in control of his interactions with the cultists, whose lives he believes he is 'saving' by putting them out of their misery; so that tells us how he views other people in relation to him. He feels entitled to control their fate.

Here we can make the argument that Akaza is not a human, but a demon, and so Douma should view him as more of an equal in that regard. But Akaza is, undoubtedly, the Kizuki with the most humanity left in him. And that both draws Douma in ( his whole story is a quest for his own humanity, after all ) and repulses him at the same time ( because he views humans as pitiful and weak minded )

Watch how Douma gets all up in his face. His hold on Akaza is very oppressive. That could also be blamed on his poor understanding of personal boundaries, demonstrated by how quick he is to invade others' space ( grabbing Gyokko's head, hugging Shinobu, touching Akaza ) And there one could make the argument that Douma is a child who hasn't been handled properly by his parents and thus wasn't taught boundaries or is affection deprived.

There's probably a hint of truth to all of that. But what matters is the end result. Akaza asks him to remove his hand, first under his breath. Then, Douma turns around with an air of 'you had something to say to me shortie?'—

And to me that face confesses to what the true intention is. His smile does not reach his eyes. His gaze is gleaming. His eyebrows are raised in a mocking fashion. Bro looks like he's about to lick him. And everyone knows Akaza is notoriously reactive, so that face might as well have secured Douma the punch.

And, if I haven't convinced you about what this bitch is doing here, he goes and makes this face and his eye crinkles mischievously—

So that's where the inconsistency between what Douma says he is/wants and what he actually is/wants begins. Yes, I do believe Douma wants to make friends and I do believe he craves to relate to others and experience the full spectrum of sentiment. But he goes about it in dysfunctional ways, because that's all he's equipped with. His arsenal includes gaslighting and manipulating others, as well as provoking reactions out of them. It's not necessarily violent, but it is cruel. And sadistic towards Akaza, frankly, because he proceeds to heal the blows immediately in front of everyone and humiliate him in that way by making him look comparatively very weak.

TL/DR: To me it reads as a smug look. He's not upset, he probably expected the reaction, hell, even hoped for it. That's not to say it was done out of pure sadomazochism, because Upper Two is more complex than that. Douma does crave intense physical experiences, specifically pain. It's all part of his quest to feel something. I can imagine Akaza's punches are on the higher end of the pain spectrum, too. But, personally I do believe that Douma stands by his word here that this is 'how you nurture friendship' in his mind. With cruelty, which is the only way he has ever experienced human interactions by that point.

You know, in the same fashion as a kindergartener would pull another kid's schoolbag open to make friends. Or yank their hair. Or steal their lunch and run around the hallway laughing with it.

Kids can be strangely cruel, at times.

GYUTARO, MY DARLING! I love Gyutaro, he's such a good big brother, even if he's depraved. Muzan's just hot too, I mean damn. Just look at him I just wanna pet Shigaraki's head straight up, he and Gyutaro would get all the headpats. Still inching towards Gyokko, like earlier, you're makin' him grow on me. And Micheal Myers is just an icon and a half in the horror community. I saw him featured in an AU called Camp Counselor Jason for FT13, and he was just precious along with Jason.

GASP i have recieved ENCOURAGEMENT. i will GLADY elaborate since the people want to hear my truth. anyways. i still dont have every single character figure out but here is what i Do have decided.

Before we get into the character swaps, I must begin with a few basic disclaimers. First, not every single character is swapped, nor will every single character be entirely accurate to canon, because a lot of them have their identity as a demon/Hashira so tightly woven into who they are that I have to make some slight changes to other aspects of their character to make their new roles fit (this is more notable with the hashira!uppermoons, as many of them are more cruel/unsympathetic in canon than any Hashira would be).

Also, there are some VERY important non-hashira/kizuki characters you need to be aware of. I have decided NOT to swap Ubuyashiki and Muzan [mostly because I think demon king Muzan is hot] because their roles as leaders of the Hashira and demons respectively are so important to who they are that I didn't really want to change it. Also yeah I love demon king Muzan and I didnt want to make him nice. My au i do what i want <3

for the kizuki --> hashira, I have decided to go with 9 pillars, as that is the number present in the original manga. Unfortunately, this means I can't fit EVERY major kizuku into the ranks of my Hashira, but I will survive. As for the 9 hashira I have decided upon, they are as follows:

Kokushibo, Moon Hashira [He's too iconic to change that much.]

Douma, Ice Hashira [I debated making him wind so as to keep more of the core 5 breathing styles among the Hashira, but again, his ice is too iconic to change much]

Akaza, Stone Hashira [I debated making him flame, but I do want him to meet demon!Kyo at some point and I didn't want them to be fire vs fire. Also, I do actually think stone fits his martial-arts style of fighting]

Rui, Insect Hashira [It not only fits his bug vibe, but also he deserves to have the Butterfly Girls as his family. This one might be a bit self indulgent, but like I said! Fuck it, it's MY au!!]

Uma, Love Hashira [This is both because it fits her character AND because it keeps Flame/a derivative among the Hashiras]

Nakime, the Sound Hashira [music!!! plus this keeps a Wind derivative among my Hashira]

Kaigaku, the Thunder Hashira [No explanation needed, if you know his and Zenitsu's backstory]

Gyotaro, the Poison Hashira [Blood seemed a little intense for what is supposed to be the 'good guys,' so I decided poison fit him pretty well. Admittedly, I don't think there'd be a need for poison breathing to exist when its basically just insect breathing + water breathing, but oh well!]

Enmu, the Mist Hashira [I thought his whole dreams power fit pretty well with Mist Breathing]

You may note that Hantengu and Gyokko are not on this list. This is because I couldn't decide on a breathing style for Hantengu since he fits wind, sound, AND thunder pretty well IMO, and I decided not to include Gyokko since I wanted to try to keep the breathing styles as diverse as possible.

Moving on! The part I'm REALLY working on this au for: THE DEMON!HASHIRAAAAAAAA. Because I did not go the easy route here and just decide on blood demon arts or fun designs. Oh, no. I have given each of them a fully developed fighting style, blood demon art(s), specific weakness/way to be killed, backstory and relationship with Muzan, and of course a fun design. This is why they are not fully done yet. This shit is WAY HARDER than you would think. However, I DO have 5/6 upper moons ALMOST done, and then i will work on the lower moons. So, for now, I will explain my ranking of them and my favorite fight mechanics so far :3

The Hashira in the Upper Moons are actually directly swapped with the canon Upper Moons, including having similar Blood Demon Arts, backstories, and power dynamics in various cases.

Kokushibo --> Tanjiro

Douma --> Shinobu

Akaza --> Rengoku

Hantengu --> Giyuu

Gyokko --> Sanemi

Gyutaro & Daki --> Yuichiro & Muichiro

Upper Moon 1 - Tanjiro Kamado (oh, yeah, forgot to mention he's here too) - The Dragon Demon.

I knew from the start I wanted Tanjiro to be Upper Moon 1, the demon swordsman with red hair and hanafuda earrings Muzan has recruited because he wants a demon who can use breathing styles. So, then, I had to decide upon a breathing style. Did I give Tanjiro Sun Breathing? Well, I could do that, but that would be easy, and I don't do things the easy way. So what did I decide upon? What breathing style would be powerful enough for Upper Moon 1 and fitting for Tanjiro?

My very own invention, Dragon Breathing. Both because of the visuals of Tanjiro's breathing styles and because of his deeply protective nature, dragons are a creature I think fit Tanjiro very very well. Also, it remains true to his canon breathing style without being Sun Breathing, because Sun Breathing is not something a demon should use, in my opinion. [Sidenote: i LOVE the beauty of Kokushibo using Moon Breathing. Because he truly is like a fainter echo of his brother. I could write an entire post about this, but I truly do think Yorichii's kindness and warmth like the Sun versus Kokushibo's more selfish nature and cold distance like the Moon perfectly reflects the wider themes of demon slayers being heroes because of their kindness and demons being monsters because of them hurting other people. Anyways. Normal about that manga I promise]

Ok. New paragraph. I do not have any ADHD symptoms I swear (I have been diagnosed with ADHD). I haven't quite gotten Dragon Breathing laid out, but I've decided there's 5 forms, each of which based upon some aspect of a dragon; dragon scales, dragon fire, dragon wings (used to escape), dragon scales (a very protective form), and finally Summon An Actual Dragon because Why Not.

As for demon!Tanjiro's personality and backstory, I really can't put it any better in summary than I already have. So here's what I got, from my planning spreadsheet (yes, spreadsheet. i am so neurotypical and normal)

Tanjiro became a demon many years ago, after Muzan discovered the Kamado family and their connection to Sun Breathing. After a long battle with Muzan in which the demon king tried extremely hard to kill him due to resemblace to Muzan's most hated enemy, Muzan saw Tanjiro's power and potential and instead of killing him, offered him a deal; Muzan would spare Tanjiro's family for the price of Tanjiro becoming a demon. Desperate to save his family at any cost, Tanjiro accepted this and became Muzan's most favored servant.

Tanjiro comes into conflict with Muzan quite often, and is very frequently punished for showing kindness/mercy to humans or other demons. However, he never stops doing so, and Muzan never gets rid of him, because Muzan is obsessed with the potential of a breathing-user demon.

Upper Moon 2 - Shinobu Kocho - The Butterfly Demon. Warning: none of the other demon!Hashira have such a detailed backstory yet.

Shinobu takes Douma's place in this au, and has a similar playful attitude. She's vicious and likes to taunt her prey. She isn't very physically strong, so she relies upon her Blood Demon Art- her butterflies. She can turn parts any of her body into butterflies. These butterflies are quick, small, and can inject lethal venom into their victims. She uses them to kill her victims instead of physical strength. She is very fast and hard to catch, but physically the weakest of the Upper Moons.

Upper Moon 3 - Kyojuro Rengoku - The Blazing Demon

Kyojuro, much like Shinobu takes Akaza's place. His personality is, for lack of a better word, quite fiery. He's very bold and feels no need to hide his strength, which is of course his literal flaming body. His body temperature is so high that humans who come into contact with him get burns, and nichirin swords begin to melt. The trick to defeating him is thus to lower his body temperature.

Kyojuro has two blood demon arts, each of which are slightly different. Raging Inferno raises Kyojuro’s body heat even more and causes flames to spread out from his body. He can control these and use them to attack enemies, while Wildfire’s Wrath creates extremely powerful flames that act on their own and leap around, burning everything they can reach.

Upper Moon 4 - Giyuu Tomioka - The Fox Demon

Giyuu has my absolute favorite fight mechanic out of every single demon!Hashira I've designed so far, because Giyuu replaces Hantengu. You know what that means, boys- IT'S SABITO AND MAKOMO TIME 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Giyuu's main blood demon art, called Tears Of The Foxes, summons the ghosts of Sabito and Makomo to protect him. Sabito is a very direct, very powerful fighter, while Makomo is swift and deadly. Sabito can use River's Rage, which summons a wall of water which pushes the target away, while Makomo can use Fox's Bite, which summons swift magical foxes which attack the target. In times of need, they can combine their strength to use Fox's Wedding, which summons a massive storm with rain that can cut through human skin and which completely hides Giyuu's location within it. Giyuu's second Blood Demon Art, Obscuring Storms, can produce less powerful rainstorms of his own which he can hide within. His fighting strategy is to hide inside his rainstorms while Sabito and Makomo protect him. His neck remains his weak point, it's just quite diffucult to get to when one must first get past both Sabito and Makomo and then find and defeat Giyuu inside his rainstorms.

Upper Moon 6 - Yuichiro & Muichiro Tokito - The Twin Demon.

And finally we get to the inspiration for this entire AU- THE TOKITWINSSSSS. as you can see by my icon [note: In case I have changed my icon, please note at the time of writing my icon was a picture of Muichiro against the oriented aroace flag], i am completely and utterly normal about them. They essentially replace Gyutaro and Daki, and have much the same relationship with Muzan, as well as weakness (slice off both their necks at once). But their Blood Demon Arts are not the same as Gyutaro and Daki's!

Yuichiro has a fairly simple yet effective blood demon art- the ability to summon and manipulate any weapon he wants. This was inspired by him always seeming to be using some kind of tools in the few scenes we get of him (cutting logs, using a kitchen knife (although I know this is incidental and not neccessarily a reflection of him)) and also because I think it would be really cute and fitting if Yuichiro was kind of like a knight protecting Muichiro. Speaking of Muichiro, his Blood Demon Art is Obscuring Mists, which spreads a cloud of mist around him that makes anyone who breathes it in become passive and/or forgetful, therefore not wanting to fight him. Muichiro, much like Tanjiro, is kind and doesn't quite understand why people want to attack him. But thankfully he always has Yuichiro there to protect him.

And that's the end of the Upper Moons! You may have noticed I didn't mention Sanemi's BDA- that is because I don't have demon!Sanemi figured out yet. I also don't have the lower moons' powers or backstories figured out, but i DO know that they will be Tengen, Mitsuri, Kanae, Gyomei, Obanai, and Zenitsu in that exact order. Don't worry about where Inosuke is, I have other plans for him. By the way, Nezuko is also in this AU, so if you're curious i WILL explain my ideas for her within this AU.
