Common Mistakes in Metal Building Construction
One of the many benefits of constructing prefab metal buildings in Ontario, Alberta, and the rest of Canada and the United States is that you don’t have to hire any professional builders to get it up and running. Prefab kits have all the pieces you need already measured and pre cut for you. Instead of waiting months for a construction crew to finish the job, you and a few friends could have your building up in a matter of weeks.
While this kind of convenience is great, you have to make sure you get the job done right. When you order from Metal Pro Buildings, you don’t need any prior construction experience in most cases, but you do need to make sure you’re not committing any of these common mistakes. Learn what to avoid when you’re constructing prefab metal buildings in North Carolina or anywhere else.
Leaving the Construction Site Unprepared
Metal buildings are easier to put together than your typical building, but they still need a solid foundation to rest on. That means you need to be sure the ground at the construction site is solid and level before you begin building. Additionally, you’ll need to have soil tests done to determine how strong and stable the ground is. Don’t forget to leave some room outside of the building area as well, for materials and equipment.
Pouring the Concrete Too Soon
A lot of metal building designs are built upon concrete, but too often, people jump the gun and pour the concrete foundation before construction actually begins. The concrete has to measure up to the building’s dimensions exactly if you want to ensure both aesthetic and structural integrity. It’s also incredibly difficult to anchor the building to the concrete if the concrete has already been poured before building materials arrive.
Failing to Comply With Building Codes
No matter what kind of building you’re looking to construct, you have to make sure it's in compliance with local building codes. Failing to do so can get you in serious legal trouble. Fortunately, custom-designed buildings from Metal Pro Buildings take care of this issue for you. When our team is designing your building, we find the building codes for your construction area and ensure the design is well within compliance.
Cutting Metal Pieces
Some DIY builders may feel comfortable making alterations to the building components during the construction process. Even if that’s worked out on past projects, alterations are something you must always avoid when it comes to metal building kits. All our kits already have pieces that are measured and specifically cut to fit together in a certain way. The measurements are perfect, and any kind of alteration can render the piece ineffective. Too many steel buildings in Alberta and elsewhere have been ruined by DIYers getting overzealous.
Failing to Follow Best Safety Practices
When you’re building anything, safety should always be your primary concern. That’s why you need to make sure you’re doing everything you can to keep yourself and any fellow builders you may have with you safe. The instructions provided in a prefab kit from Metal Pro Buildings will go over all the safety precautions you should take, so reading the instructions and exercising a little common sense is all you really need to do.

The Safety of Metal Buildings
One of the primary concerns when constructing any kind of building is safety. A lot goes into designing a building that’s safe, but if you really want to maximize safety, you have to go a bit further. The materials themselves aren’t all created equal when it comes to safety. While wood may be among the most common building materials, steel is actually significantly more reliable in all aspects, including safety.
Whether you’re looking to erect metal buildings in California or craft a metal building home in Canada, they will always be safer than their wooden counterparts provided they have a reliable design. Learn all about why metal buildings are so safe, and discover why even small things like steel storage shed kits should always be favored over traditional construction methods and materials.
Safety for Occupants
Think about where you would go if there was a natural disaster heading your way. Most community shelters are in steel buildings like churches and stadiums rather than big wooden or even brick buildings. Steel is the most durable building material available, and its ability to resist severe weather is unparalleled. As if that wasn’t enough, steel is also incredibly fire resistant, so if there’s a fire inside a steel building, it will spread much slower than it would in a wood building.
Steel is also safer in the long run, as you don’t have to worry about gradual wear and tear as much. While steel doesn’t last forever, it can last for decades easily, with little more than a good wash every year or so. You don’t have to worry about termites, rotting, mold or the material getting warped during temperature changes. All you have to do is protect against rust, and galvanized and painted steel virtually does that for you.
Safety for Manufacturers and Builders
Unlike wood, steel is measured and cut within the confines of a plant rather than at the construction site itself. While this certainly makes things easier for the builders, it also ensures that the process doesn’t involve any dangerous risks such as working in hot summer conditions or at great heights. Considering the potential severity of construction accidents, reducing the risk by any degree is worth it.
Since steel components are manufactured inside a secure facility, it’s much easier to catch potential errors. Construction errors can certainly be dangerous, but when you’re working with components that have been designed, measured and cut using computer programs and machinery, it’s less likely to make a serious mistake. This prevents potential accidents from construction errors, as well as the chance of accidents altogether, since builders spend less time on site.
Safety for the Environment
Metal buildings are the clear choice if you want strength in your design, but metal buildings in California and beyond are also better for the environment. Most buildings constructed out of wood will require at least an acre of trees to complete. Since wood rots over time, you’ll also need even more material to support your building eventually.
With metal buildings, you don’t have to worry about rot, termites or any other problems wood buildings face. That means you’ll be saving on materials when it comes to upkeep. In fact, your building doesn’t need to use any new material at all. Steel is 100-percent recyclable, so you can potentially construct a building made entirely out of recycled material.
Design Your Own Metal Building
Metal buildings in California and beyond are certainly safer than their wooden counterparts, so don’t hesitate to look at steel storage shed kits for yourself. With Metal Pro Buildings, you can even go so far as to help with the design process. Our team can work with you to design a building uniquely suited to your needs. Contact us today to get started!

Why Metal Building Homes are the Eco-Friendly Option
For many people, designing and building their own home is a dream come true. Throughout a lot of the process, however, that dream turns into a nightmare of labor costs, unexpected expenses and stress. As more and more problems pile up, more and more resources pour into the project, and that can take a serious toll.
While the stress of building a house can be severe on you as a person, it can also have a huge impact on the environment. If you’re looking for a solution that’s both easy on your sanity and easy on our environment, metal building homes might be exactly what you need. With metal building kits in North Carolina and beyond from Metal Pro Buildings, constructing your next home can be greener than ever before.
Preserving Natural Resources
Building a home out of wood costs a lot of trees. To put it in perspective, every 2,000 square feet of your new home will require an entire acre of trees to be cut down. Metal buildings, on the other hand, don’t require any trees to be cut down at all. In fact, you can choose to have your metal building kit not even require any new steel to be manufactured. We offer 100 percent recycled materials if you want to maximize your eco-friendliness.
Factory Efficiency
Whether or not you decide to go with the 100-percent recycled steel, the materials to have to go through a production plant to get measured and cut into components for your metal home or other prefab steel buildings in Alberta. When many people picture factories, they imagine giant smokestacks polluting the air, but our production plants have come a long way since the early industrial age. In fact, our production facilities produce approximately zero carbon dioxide emissions, and the water used in our production is all recycled.
Easy Construction
Construction costs are often framed in terms of labor and materials, but there’s another aspect of it that plays a huge role on the environment: Running the necessary equipment can consume a lot of fuel. Fortunately, steel building kits cut down on construction time and allows the equipment to run for a much shorter period, preserving fuel and reducing emissions.
Energy Conservation
Once your metal home is completed, you’ll need to regulate the temperature inside. Most people associate metal buildings with being cold, but they’re actually a lot easier to insulate than people realize. Insulation can keep the cold out, while reflective panels on the roof can keep the heat out during the warmer months. All of this will save you a lot of energy on heating and cooling.
Longevity
Steel is the most durable construction material on the market, and that goes far beyond allowing you to have wide, open interior spaces without support columns. A metal building kit in North Carolina can leave you with a building that stands tall for decades. Maintaining the building for all that time is easy as well, since metal doesn’t warp or rot like wood does.
Design Your Metal Building Home
If you’re ready to take the eco-friendly option and design a metal building home for yourself, Metal Pro Buildings is happy to help. We have several prefab kits for you to choose from, but our expert team is happy to work with you to design a home specifically catered to your unique needs. Get in touch with us today to get started.

Why You Should Build Your Garage From Steel
One of the best ways to add value and extra space to your home is to add another garage. Whether you’re looking for a place to put your vehicle or boat, or you want to have your own workshop, adding a separate building to your property just might be your best bet. While the construction costs may seem daunting, there’s actually one method you can use that’s more affordable than you might think.
Building your garage from steel just might save you a significant amount on costs in the end. Steel is more costly up front than wood, but the savings elsewhere will more than outweigh that. You just need to make sure you’re using a metal building kit that will help you reduce construction costs without sacrificing quality. That’s where Metal Pro Buildings can help. Learn why you need prefab garage kits in Alberta and beyond if you’re trying to build a new garage.
Easy Construction
Using prefabricated garages in Ontario or anywhere else is much easier than trying to build one from scratch. While traditional construction methods can cost you a ton in the form of months of labor, metal garages in North Carolina can be put together from a prefab kit in a matter of weeks. You don’t even need to have prior construction experience. Our kits are designed to be easy to use, with compatible pieces that cut down on construction time significantly, and we deliver everything you need right to the construction site.
Durable Material
Steel is the strongest building material on the market. While that may increase initial costs, maintenance costs down the line are severely reduced. Unlike wood, steel doesn’t warp in response to temperature changes, and it doesn’t rot. There aren’t any pests like termites that eat steel, either. Additionally, its durability allows it to support wide, open spaces without any interior support beams. If you want to load up your garage with as much stuff as possible, metal construction won’t leave anything standing in your way.
Eco-Friendly
Humanity has had a massive impact on the environment, but opting for a metal building actually reduces your footprint quite a bit. At Metal Pro Buildings, you can choose a prefab garage kit in Alberta made from 100 percent recycled metal. If you ever decide to take your building down, the metal can be recycled again. Our manufacturing plant also makes sure to recycle all of the leftover steel we have after creating and cutting the pieces of your garage kit.
Affordable Operational Costs
You may not think about it all that much, but you have to pay to keep your garage up and running. While some may just use theirs for storage, a lot of other people work in their garage quite frequently. If you’re one of the latter, you’ll have to make sure the interior of your garage is comfortable. Steel is surprisingly easy to insulate, so you won’t have to pour as much money into energy costs to keep your garage warm in the winter. Additionally, insurance for steel buildings is always more affordable than that of their wooden counterparts.
Get Your Prefabricated Garage in Ontario
At Metal Pro Buildings, we’re happy to help you find the best prefab garage kit in Alberta and the rest of Canada and the United States. While you’re always free to flip through our preset designs, our team is also happy to work with you to design a unique garage that fits your specific needs. Contact us today to start the design process.

Can You Live in a Metal Building?
Metal buildings are great when you’re looking to add a workshop or garage to your property, but can they be used as living spaces? When properly set up and constructed, metal buildings can actually be among the best available options for living spaces. You just have to make sure that your metal buildings in North Carolina, for example, can handle it.
There are plenty of benefits to enjoy from living in a metal building even if you opt for used steel buildings from Canada, rather than brand-new. Metal building homes have never been a better idea, thanks to modern advances. All you need is a prefab kit that comes complete with all the necessary materials to make construction easy. Learn all about metal building kits, and discover how they can make a fine place to call home.
Structural Integrity
One of the best aspects of steel buildings is how sturdy they are. Proper steel buildings are equipped to handle harsh weather conditions whether you’re worried about Canadian snow, North Carolina storms or the hot Texas sun. In contrast, wood is vulnerable to all those weather conditions and more.
Steel is the strongest building material available, especially if you implement the arch design. For thousands of years, people have been using the arch design in construction to create incredible structures that can stand the test of time. When you’re finding a prefab kit of your own, don’t opt for anything that doesn’t implement the arch.
Creating Comforts
Surprisingly enough, insulating a metal building is easy. When many people think of steel buildings, they picture something cold and open, but it’s not all that hard to create a warm and cozy living space. This is especially true if you opt for a cool roof, which works to reflect the sun’s heat back away from the house.
Since steel construction is so customisation, it’s easy to leave flexibility in the design. If you ever want to add another story to the house at a later time, you can. If you live in a house that uses wood, adding on like that can be a real hassle, and sometimes, downright impossible.
Eco- and Cost-Friendly
The first thing you might notice when comparing costs of constructing a steel building to a wooden building is that wood is initially more affordable. While plenty dismiss this as simply getting what you pay for, it’s important to realise that steel is actually more affordable in the long run. Steel buildings require less maintenance, and you also get to enjoy lower insurance premiums, thanks to steel’s innate fire-resistance.
Steel is also 100 percent recyclable. If you want, you can build your entire steel house out of completely recycled material from used steel buildings in Canada. Not only does that route limit your impact on the environment, but used pieces tend to be more affordable as well. Considering how long steel can last, you won’t even be sacrificing quality.

Steel vs. Concrete Buildings
Whether you’re looking to construct a workshop building, a home, a garage or any other building, choosing your building material is an important first step. Many people rule out wood right away, due to the required maintenance, leaving them to choose between metal and concrete.
Both of these materials are known for being incredibly sturdy, but you can only choose one if you want to maximise the effectiveness of your building. While you’ll find plenty of metal buildings for sale, a concrete structure might also be a contender. Find out more about how these materials differ in our steel vs. concrete building comparison.
Strength
The most important factor when deciding what kind of materials to use is strength. While you may think of concrete as incredibly strong, steel actually has eight times the tensile strength of concrete, thanks to its uniform molecular structure. While concrete is still plenty strong, steel is far more predictable and easier to work with.
Steel also lasts longer than concrete, so you get to enjoy the increased strength with the decreased maintenance. Concrete is especially vulnerable to temperature changes, which can lead to cracks and crumbling over time. Steel, on the other hand, lasts for decades and requires very little maintenance to keep it in top shape.
Safety
Whether you’re concerned with safety during construction or after the building is put into use, metal wins across the board. Metal building pieces arrive on site already cut and ready to go, while concrete must first be mixed. Having the mixing done on site is a necessity, but it adds another step to the process, along with more chances of accidents happening.
Concrete takes a long time to set up, and it takes a long time to settle. Until it’s completely settled, the site is a danger zone and fundamentally unstable. On the other hand, metal buildings are ready as soon as the frame is set. You only have to wait as long as the lobar takes to construct the building. The materials are always prepared for the next step.
Versatility
When it comes to versatility, there’s no contest. Concrete is extremely limited as to what it’s capable of, while steel can be used to create a wide variety of structures of different shapes and sizes. In fact, steel is the only reason such open-span buildings are even possible. If you’re planning for a lot of open spaces, concrete makes the endeavour downright impossible.
In order to support a massive concrete building, you’re going to need a lot of support columns. This all stems from the fact that the amount of concrete required to offer decent strength is much heavier than the steel required to meet those same requirements. With concrete, there’s really no way to let your design creativity shine through construction.

Prefab Metal Buildings in California
Beautiful and sunny California is a great place to live, no matter what you’re looking for in life. Sometimes, however, your life will call for a little extra space, whether you need somewhere to store extra junk or a nice new car. Fortunately, creating whatever space you might need is easier than ever, thanks to available steel building kits in California.
At Metal Pro Buildings, we offer convenient solutions to all your metal building needs with prefab kits that are easy to put together and reliable enough to create a building that will last you well into the foreseeable future. Learn all about our metal buildings for sale in California and discover why you could use one as your next structure.
Advantages of Metal Buildings
When it comes to construction materials, it doesn’t get much better than steel. In fact, steel is capable of strength that not even concrete can match, much less wood. Because of steel’s unique molecular structure, it has the ability to support wide open spaces for large buildings without using any support columns, with some designs.
Steel is incredibly strong, yet it’s easy to shape into whatever piece one may need. Cutting and measuring wood can be a long process that only accounts for the wood in its current form, while metal is easy to work with and is relatively unchanging. Wood will rot and warp over time, while metal remains the same for decades. Its unrelenting strength is also particularly helpful to protect against bad weather, so even the fiercest California storms won’t be able to topple your structure.
Benefits of Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings in California
When you’re looking to craft steel buildings in Sacramento, California, and beyond, it’s easiest if you use a prefab kit. With our prefab kits, you can design your own building alongside our talented team, and we’ll have all the components shipped directly to you in just a few weeks. Every last piece of your metal building will be included, and it won’t require any specialized tools or labor to get it up and running.
Using a prefab kit, you can have metal garages in California built and ready to go in just a few weeks, rather than a few months using traditional construction methods. The costs you save on labor alone show just how financially responsible it is to use steel rather than any other material. Given that our metal buildings in California are easy to maintain as well, you’ll be able to save plenty of money on upkeep.
Eco-Friendly Benefits
California is one of the pioneers in America when it comes to eco-friendly solutions. Californians tend to be more environmentally conscious about their everyday decisions, and that should transfer to their buildings as well. This is another reason why steel is so beneficial for Californians. Steel is 100% recyclable, and we’re happy to offer used metal buildings for sale in California that are more affordable, every bit as reliable and much more friendly on the environment.
Steel is a unique material that can easily be reformed and reshaped into new structures. This allows one to take pieces already used in a previous building and reuse them for a new building. Because of steel’s unrivaled longevity, even used pieces can still last you decades. As if that weren’t enough, it’s easy to make steel look brand new. All it takes is a quick wash.

Preparing Your Metal Building For Snow
Canadian winters are no joke. If you want your metal building to last through the colder months, you have to make sure it’s outfitted properly to handle the snow. Metal buildings are innately stronger and more durable than their counterparts made from traditional building materials, but you still need to make sure your metal building can handle the worst of the worst.
Fortunately, preparing your metal building for heavy snow is pretty simple and can be accomplished by virtually anyone. You just have to know what to do. From prefab garage kits in Saskatchewan to residential metal building kits, learn how you can optimize yours to withstand heavy snowfall.
Why Preparation Matters
The integrity of your structure is probably the first thing on your mind, but steel alone is usually enough to keep you safe in that regard. Your other consideration should be general safety, not only for yourself, but for other people who come to or near your building. Make sure the approach to your building is pedestrian friendly and won’t become slippery with snow and ice. You also have to mitigate the formation of dangerous icicles around the edges of your building’s roof.
Measuring the weight of snow is also tricky, as not all snow weighs the same in comparison to its volume. You can look out for  a few signs that let you know the snow weight on your building is a bit too much. If you find doors and windows difficult to open, the snow might be putting too much of a burden on them. You may also hear creaking noises throughout your building or, at worst, sagging and bending of your roof and walls.
Mitigating Damage
You can do quite a few things to ensure your building can last through the heavy snows. Consider which direction the wind typically blows before deciding where to put your building on your building site. Make sure your primary ridge line faces the prevailing winds, so you don’t have to deal with uneven snow piling on your building. You could also plant some evergreen trees in the way that partially block your building from snow carried by the wind.
You also need to consider where your entryway and walkways will be before you orient your building. Leave the space outside of the slant of your roof open so the snow and ice has a safe space to fall and collect. Keep your walkways at a safe distance, and make sure your entryway is underneath an arch, so ice and snow doesn’t gather below.
What About Gutters?
Gutters are an essential part of any building to properly direct rainwater after a storm, but are they a good idea to have for snowier areas? Of course, they’re still necessary, but you have to take extra steps to maintain them if you don’t want them to cause additional damage due to snow.
When the weather outside is below freezing, any water in your gutters can become frozen and create what’s known as an ice dam. This will block your gutters and cause even more snow and ice to accumulate on top of your building. Always make sure your gutters are clear to prevent water and snow from piling up, and it might also be a good idea to install heating cable to prevent freezing, just in case.

Finding the Right Insulation
Metal buildings have a ton of benefits for you to enjoy, from their short construction time to their unrivaled strength and longevity. When most people think of metal, however, they picture something cold, and that preconception transfers to what people imagine the interior of a metal building to be like. Fortunately, your metal building doesn’t have to conform to that notion. You just have to insulate it properly.
Surprisingly enough, metal buildings are incredibly easy to insulate, provided you use a prefab kit. Insulation is especially important if you’re looking to craft steel building homes in Canada, so it’s important to learn which kind of insulation is best. Learn how to find the right insulation, and discover where you can find metal buildings for sale in Texas and anywhere else in the U.S. and Canada.
Loose Fill
Loose fill insulation is fairly common, and it’s pretty easy to install. In short, all you have to do is blow the insulation into the building cavities like you’re shooting water out of a hose. This easy installation tends to be a bit more costly, but it makes it easy to insulate the small nooks and crannies of your building.
Batt and Blanket
If you’re looking for an inexpensive insulation solution, batt and blanket might be your best option. These are essentially cloth materials that are stuffed inside your building for insulation. They’ll get the job done, but you need to make sure you install them correctly. Any fault will severely compromise your building’s insulation. Getting these materials into the corners that were so easily covered by loose fill insulation won’t be nearly as easy, so keep that in mind.
Spray Foam
Spray foam is a wonder of science that not only securely insulates your building, but it also puts on a bit of a show when installing. As the name suggests, this insulation solution is sprayed onto the targeted area as a liquid. Then, it turns to foam and expands until it completely fills the local area. Afterward, it will harden and become airtight. If you’re dealing with odd areas or unusual designs, spray foam will have no problem filling up the area entirely.
Fiberglass
This type of insulation is even more affordable than batt and blanket and works in a similar way. The fiberglass is formed into a blanket-like material that has to be manually applied to areas that need to be insulated. If you decide to install it yourself, make sure you wear protective gear, as fine fibers tend to shed all over the place. You should also make sure you apply some kind of protective barrier as well, since fiberglass material is particularly attractive to pests.
Reflective Foil
This waterproof insulation is good for keeping the weather out and can actually make the interior of your building brighter. While it’s more on the expensive side, this insulation is incredibly easy to install and can create an atmosphere inside your building that’s bright and welcoming.
Insulated Panels
These are arguably the most aesthetically pleasing insulation options available. Insulated panels are essentially two metal panels around a foam core. They work incredibly well as insulation, and can give the interior of your metal building a more streamlined appearance, so it looks and functions as professionally as possible.

Considerations for Large Metal Buildings
If you’re looking to build a large building for a commercial warehouse, an indoor sport facility, a manufacturing operation or anything else, there are some important considerations to keep in mind. Metal buildings come with plenty of benefits that you can enjoy, no matter what size building you need, but those on the larger side require a deft touch.
Fortunately, these considerations are easy to deal with, no matter how big your prefab steel building in Alberta is. Whether you need a giant prefab garage in B.C. or massive metal building homes, these considerations can help you create the perfect building you’ll be satisfied with for years to come.
Length vs. Width
With your large metal building, you need to make sure it has enough space inside for your needs. In order to expand it to your specifications, you need to think about which direction your expansion should go. Do you need your building to be longer or wider? Turns out, the best option depends on what level of construction you’re at.
If you’re building your metal structure from scratch, it doesn’t really matter which is longer. It’s just important to realize that your building’s width is the measurement of the columns and rafters, while the length is how many of those columns and rafters you have. To expand an already existing building, it’s much easier to simply add more columns and rafters than to replace the ones you already have.
Type of Frame
Quite a few different options are available when designing the frame for your large metal building, but the right option depends on what you’re looking to get out of your structure. If you want stability and longevity above all else, an arched frame is your best bet. Humans have been building structures with arches for thousands of years, and it continues to be one of the most reliable designs to date.
Some buildings require a more complex frame, however, and that’s okay too. At times, your design will need to be asymmetrical, but it’s usually best to keep your building symmetrical as a whole and put asymmetrical walls up inside. To allow for the most interior space, make sure you use a clear span symmetrical frame, which are particularly useful as they don’t require any interior supports.
Benefits of Metal
Making your large building out of metal seems like an obvious benefit, but there’s much more to it than strength. While steel is the strongest material to build with, it’s also the most affordable over time. Metal requires very little maintenance and can last you for decades. That alone should cover most of the material costs if you have to build it for the first time.
Metal is also remarkably easy to construct. Traditional construction methods can have a large building up in a matter of months, perhaps longer. Meanwhile, building from a metal prefab kit can have your building up and running in just a few weeks. That means you can enjoy significant savings when it comes to labor costs.

Picking the Right Roof Panels
Whether you’re looking for prefab garages in Alberta or metal building kits in North Carolina, you need to make sure your metal building has the proper roof panels for your purposes. The roof is arguably the most important part of any building, and steel buildings are no different. While steel is naturally more resilient than its more traditional counterparts, you still have a few options to protect your roof.
Roof panels come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you need to make sure you’re getting the ones most appropriate for your needs. That’s why we’ve put together this comprehensive overview of all the roof panel details and options you need to consider before you buy. Learn all about picking the right roof panels for your metal building.
Structural and Architectural
A structural roof and an architectural roof have distinct differences you need to know, as each is designed for a unique purpose. Structural roofs have much thicker panels and don’t require any extra underlayment to install. Heat can travel freely through the roof, and it’s functionally waterproof, even in standing water.
Architectural roofs take a different approach, as they implement much thinner panels in their construction. They also have to be supported with additional materials to keep the whole roof properly supported and to keep any water out. They have a higher pitch and are vulnerable to standing water, but its water shedding capability is much better than its architectural counterpart.
Hydrostatic and Hydrokinetic
Hydrostatic and hydrokinetic roofs generally have the same distinctions as structural and architectural roofs, but the difference is caused by the seams rather than the panels. A hydrostatic roof will have bigger seams that don’t require an additional deck for support. They are generally more sturdy and able to support more open framing setups.
Hydrokinetic roofs, on the other hand, use smaller seams, generally half the size of their hydrostatic counterparts. The most important thing you need to know about this kind of roof is that it’s not inherently watertight, so you’re going to need something else to keep water out. It’s important to note, however, that its water-shedding ability is quite advanced and it generally comes with a steeper slope.
Standing Seam and Concealed Fastener
These roof types both offer plenty of benefits to enjoy. A standing seam forces panels adjacent to one another to bend at a right angle and fold over each other, creating a waterproof seal. The seam is reinforced with a sealant, so you can be sure nothing’s getting through. The only downside is that they are really obvious to spot, which can make some roof designs look a bit jarring.
Concealed fasteners eliminate this aesthetic problem by using hidden clips between the panels, creating a smooth outer surface. They also allow the panels ample room to breathe through temperature changes and don’t add any extra weight on the roof supports. If you’re trying to highlight your roof’s appearance, concealed fasteners are always your best bet.
