Colorful Korea

On Novemebr 1-5, another batch of our Qwerty team members visited South Korea for their departmental bonding trip. This time, it was the Admin Team and Teamglocal that headed to the Land of the Morning Calm. While the Touchbase team visited during winter before, the other team visited during autumn this year—a season full of colors, but with the chill of winter that the Philippines will never experience.

The team arrived at Incheon Airport just a little before midnight and headed straight to their hotel to get enough rest for the tiring day ahead. It was quite uneventful, save the chill that our members got to experience for the first time.

The next day was bound for excitement: Nami Island, the shooting scene of a very popular Korean drama, Winter Sonata. It was a sight to behold, as the whole half-moon shaped island was full of vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. They then proceeded to a quaint French Village, Le Petite France, where another Korean drama, My Love from the Stars, was shot. The day ended with a last trip to the Deoksugung Palace wall, the iconic shooting scene of the drama, Goblin.

Day 3 was quite the adventure. The team spent the whole day exploring South Korea’s largest theme park, Everland! With an area of 99 hectares, a whole day was not even enough to tour the whole place. And so at the end of the day, everyone was exhausted and immediately retreated back to their hotel rooms to get some shut eye.

Namsan Tower and Myeongdong were up next for the 4th day. Namsan Tower is Seoul’s second highest point, just placing second after Bukhansan (Mt. Bukhan). It is the epitome and icon of the city itself, standing at 236 meters high. After a tiring hike to the tower, the team was rewarded with a bird’s eye view of the city down below.

That night, the members explored the busy cosmetic and skincare district of Korea, Myeongdong! The girls enjoyed looking through and buying skin care products while the boys, well… enjoyed the street food instead!

The last day offered the most Korean experience of all--- walking around a palace in the traditional Korean costume, the hanbok. The Gyeongbukgung Palace was huge and undoubtedly exhausting to explore. However, with Korea’s rich history, the tour was as meaningful as it was fun. The Qwerty members felt like royalty, as even tourists of other nationalities took pictures of them, walking like a whole family of princes and princesses.

Last on the itinerary was a quick trip to Hongdae, a famous shopping district near Hongik University, where fashionable clothes and other styles are sold at bargain prices. Members did last minute shopping and then proceeded to Incheon Airport to wait for their flight back to Manila.

Five days wasn’t enough for a trip to this amazing city. The team hopes to be back soon to explore the rest of it. Kamsahamnida, Seoul!
