“I didn't see any of this coming with Blake. I mean, this was just a big old ‘What?’ When I met Blake, that’s when I felt home, it was like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.’ It’s just so true and it was so automatic and such an amazing gift to be able to experience love like that for the first time, it was like, ‘Ugh. Ugh, this is it!’”

“I listen to a lot of playlists that are like 70s soft rock, and one of the things me and Blake love to do together, that we did when we first started hanging out - When I first went to his house and I was like, ‘This is so weird I'm at Blake Shelton's and he's like country.’ It was like a foreign land; do you know what I mean? For me, it was just so far away from the California Anaheim girl that I am. And we were just gonna hang out and on the TV was like all the 80s videos, right? And I was like, ‘Oh, you like 80s music too?’ He's like, ‘Oh, yeah.’ And it was like, ‘Oh, okay.’ I had never even heard one of his songs - not even one. I didn't even know he was a person when I met him. I didn't know who he was or nothing. So, it was interesting because it was like, ‘Oh! We land in this place where we both love all these 80s songs.’ And then what we would do is - He'd put a song on and be like, ‘Do you know this one? Do you know this one?’ And I knew all of them. I was like, ‘Yep, yep. I don't know the title, but I know the song, I could sing along to it.’ And then I'd be like, ‘How do you not know this? Oh, cuz you're younger than me.’ I mean, it's just so fun to do.”

Gwen: “I can't even think of a freaking Christmas present for that guy. He says he wants corn—like, just literally bags of corn to grow or give to animals. I said, ‘I'm not going to get you corn.’ He asks me every year. Should I do it this year?”
DJ: “I think you should get him a horse.”
Gwen: “He would be so mad at me. He does love animals, but we're a little bit over anything that poops. We're dealing with an older dog right now, Betty.”
The Pulse with Brady, November 2024
Q: “Do you feel like you have an easy time buying stuff for Gwen or is it harder?”
Blake: “It's pretty easy for me, honestly. I mean, yes, anything Gwen Stefani wants, she can get—probably already has it, or she can get it, you know. But I'll tell you this about Gwen: she can never have enough of some things, and that includes flowers, flower bulbs, flower seeds. You just can't go wrong. Iris bulbs, daffodils, all that stuff. I mean, I'm the one out there digging a hole for this stuff, but she can't have enough of it. I remember last year, it looked like she was going to get everything in the store. And she started opening her presents, and it's like a five-pound sack of zinnia seeds and a box of bulbs.”
Katie & Company, November 2024
Blake: “It’s hard to get her excited about a stock of corn growing, but if you can get her some zinnias going, now she's fired up. Now she wants to be a farmer. I got her [zinnia seeds for Christmas]. I got her sunflower seeds. You name it, if it can grow in Oklahoma, I probably got it for her.”

Gwen: “I remember everyone going, ‘What are you doing? Like what are you doing with this guy?’ You could feel the energy that it didn't make sense that me and Blake would be together because it didn't even make sense to me really.”
DJ: “Does it now?”
Gwen: “Well, it kind of made sense immediately - Even to my parents, I remember thinking, I know that they're gonna be like, ‘What are you doing?’ But I'm gonna be like, ‘It's fine because when you see us together, you're gonna see I get to be me now, like I'm me, and you're gonna like it. You're gonna like how we are.’ So it was just a really amazing blessing.”

“I am a Halloween person. When me and Blake first got together, it was Halloween, so we went out and I dressed up like a country girl - It was my fake, like Knott’s Berry Farm version of a country girl - like a square-dancing outfit. In the song Marigolds, there’s a line that says, ‘Dressed up like a country girl, I knew you'd approve’. And it's basically a nod to that because I definitely did go country when it comes to Blake, but not musically.”

Gwen: “I had been going through those times where you’re questioning: ‘Oh my gosh, am I just getting older? Am I cute?’ In my own relationship, even though I know the truth of what’s happening today, you still create drama in your own mind about your insecurities and what might happen. I was in that phase of the relationship with Blake and getting paranoid.”
Blake: “It’s an insecurity we both have. These are conversations that she and I have with each other: ‘Are you still going to love me when I’m old or if I forget who I am?’”
Gwen: “The truth is I am in love with my best friend and all this sh*t I’m thinking of in my brain, that’s all it is — I’m overthinking.”

“The thing about Blake is that you’ll never get through a day without laughing. You know what I mean? Which is just— it doesn't even matter like what’s going on. The guy has so much patience, and so much kindness in his heart. It just makes you happier every single day.”

“Balance is the hardest thing, but it's also the most important—being with my family, having time with Blake where we just watch movies.”
Gwen, Shape, October 2019
“If people knew how not exciting [our life] truly is, it's that tame. I've said this to her before, the timing of when we have gotten together at this point in our life, our batteries don't charge up as much as they used to. We’ve done so much traveling and touring and work the first half of our life that now we’re just like, ‘Hey, I’m good to put my sweatpants on at 6 p.m. and watch Ozark eight times tonight if you want to.’ That’s literally our life now and we love it.”
Blake, People Magazine, December 2022
“We watch kids watch YouTube is what we watch at home. As one kid gets older and moves on, the next kid moves into - It’s called ‘Dude perfect’. It’s a great show, by the way, that’s actually one that I enjoy watching.”
Blake, E! News, May 2023
“I remember lying in bed with Blake, and the palette had come out and he’s like, ‘Oh, let’s go watch another video.’ Because all these girls were taking the makeup palettes and making their own looks.”

Q: “I’ve got to ask you about this line in the song. It hits me hard. It’s very clever. I’ve got to hear the story behind this: Wonder why you took a risk/On a broken heart you cannot fix.”
Gwen: “When you go through your family breaking up and falling apart […], you just think, ‘I blew it, my life is over.’ And the idea that someone - like tall, hot, handsome, talented, sexy, funny, all the things that is Blake Shelton - would be like, ‘Hey, you want to make out with me?’ I would be like, ‘What?’ That would never happen to me.”
“That is a risky thing to do - to say, ‘I’m going to love you, I’m going to love your kids and I’m going to do this with you. I know what I want. I want you. You are my pretty girl.’ That’s what my life is. I’m glad that that line - that you are feeling it because there is so much behind it. And originally it was ‘a broken girl’ and when Blake hopped on it, he changed it to ‘a broken heart.’”

Q: “Did you always want Blake on the song?”
Gwen: “I always want Blake. You can just stop with that, end the sentence there. Always.”
“The Blake thing was - I did not write the song as a duet. I was actually writing this song about how I felt about Blake. I remember playing it for him and thinking like, I wonder If he’s going to catch all the details of my truth, because I was saying a lot. And he just was like, ‘I love the song.’ And he kept saying, ‘Don’t put that out like that. You should wait on that record.’ Because we always did fantasize about writing together and doing music together in the future. And then I was like, ‘If you want to be on this, I will rewrite the whole verse. I will do anything I can.’ And like twenty minutes later, he was singing on it.”

“Gwen’s got a lot of reasons to keep coming back to The Voice. First and foremost I know she absolutely loves this job and she’s always excited and a little bit shocked when they call and ask her and invite her to come back again. I’m going, ‘Why? Why are you surprised by this? Of course they want you!’”
“She's just very passionate about music and she's passionate about working. I don't know anybody that finds ways to stay as busy as she does, and it's impressive and that's why she's been so successful… Me, on the other hand, I'm ready to watch some TV.”
Blake, Extra, May 2023
“I do watch [The Voice] a little bit, especially when Gwen’s on there. She’s still in and out, and she’s so good at it. She loves the show.”
Blake, Extra, April 2024
“Our teams, their rehearsals are sent to us so we can like watch them on video. I was watching last night... He's like, ‘Oh, I'm starting to get excited. I'm gonna watch.’”
“I'm pretty sure he's gonna vote for me even if he doesn't like my team. I hope. You better.”

“He calls me ‘pretty girl’. Oh my gosh, when he said that to me the first time - because of his accent and everything - I was like, ‘Is this happening to me right now? Is my boyfriend actually…’ And he kept doing it and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I have died and gone to heaven.’ I was like, ‘How is he going to say this when I’m like seventy.’ Hopefully, it will work out.”

“When you’re in love and have truly aligned values, nobody can get to us. You can say whatever you want to say about our relationship — I mean, a week ago we were getting divorced again or something. It’s just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is. And so that [negativity] would never penetrate just by me being vulnerable and sharing a song that I didn’t write for anybody else but myself and Blake.”

Blake: “The first time that I ever met Gwen was in 2014. She wasn’t like any other famous person that I had ever met before. She drove herself to work in a black minivan with car seats in it. She didn’t roll in with security. She came in with a baby and two little boys, which at the time worked like security because nobody was going near — it was chaos.”
“It was clear to me that she was a mother first and foremost over anything else in the world — that was her No. 1 job. And now, standing here almost 10 years later after I first met her, I can say without question that being a mother is still the most important thing in her life. And I got to tell you all, that’s rare in this business.”
Hollywood Walk of Fame, October 2023
Gwen: “I was holding it back, guys. I was slurping it down my throat because I was like: 'How am I going to get through this?' I didn't know what he was going to say. He's usually like a jokester, [I assumed] he was going to come out and ad lib it - and he had an actual speech. That alone was like: 'What?' All the words today just meant everything to me. It's crazy.”
