I wanted to have something fun to take to Granite State for Mr. Maurice LaMarche to sign, and sure, I could've gone with anything else artwise... but I felt like Vekk would be fun, even if he doesn't remember playing our earliest asuran companion.

I've been going on this before but I just spent 2 hours gathering data and screenshots between games and sizing them up right to try get to the bottom of the human height discrepancy between gw1/2

I realised Koss was in both games but also he's... Not really that reliable, he got overly bigger.

Note my Charr, Asura and Norn are max height. My human Ishiko (Assassin in red) is minimum height in both games. The height lines on the gw1 screenshot use the gw2 heights for comparison.

Of note, Koss got way bigger, possibly due to being awakened. But Ishiko also got bigger despite being minimum height in both games. She's notably went from shorter than dwarves to taller than them.

Asura/Dwarf heights seem to stay consistent, my asura is just max height so an average would be accurately at a dwarf's shoulder.

Norn/Charr heights are also consistent between each other, with Norn being a slight taller than a hunched charr.

From the evidence I have, it seems that humans got a small bump up in height, while dwarves got shrunk down. Charr/Norn/Asura are still pretty accurate otherwise, assuming that Jora, Pyre and Vekk are max height. If they were average heights, then either everyone except humans got shrunk or humans just got a bigger height boost.

a long term goal is to eventually have an alt (as in an oc with lore, with the exception of my halloween mascot) for every elite spec, and optionally a core of each, so i'm trying to get my thoughts organized and. oh my god. my heavy armor roster is BARREN

(some of the characters i've left as core are really there bc they Could spec to one of the elites but i feel like i might get a better idea for a new oc... or bc i just can't think of any elite-specific lore for them)

Some random NPC decided it would be appropriate to yeet my low level ascalonian ass into an endgame hub. I am thrilled to announce I spotted my first asura there.

He greeted me with the words "Oh great another Bookah." It was nice to meet you too, Wukk. Your ears are of impeccable shape.

Do you ever think about the fact that in GW1, the first asura we meet are just a few months/years out from fleeing the six lost cities deep underground? The fact they have settlements is a testament to their resilience because we're talking people who fled an apocalypse with nothing but what they could carry and the clothes on their backs.

The fear and despair was probably still incredible palpable in those early years, but they can't SHOW that, because they're in an unfamiliar world with alien creatures where THEY'RE the aliens. They're smaller and weaker and only have their intellect to rely on.

You show an ounce of weakness in a situation like that and you get killed, and I get the feeling they understood that deeply.

I think about it a lot.

I love how insane the holiday lore is for gw2.

Halloween is just this insane king guy coming back to torment the capital of kingdom again and people said “yeah we can make a holiday about this.” The city isn’t even part of the kingdom anymore but he doesn’t give a shit. Go fight in his maze, idiot.

Wintersday was originally two gods fighting over whether it should stay winter or move to spring, like some sort of demented groundhogs day. Then they fucked off and some guy was like “hey this seems like a business opportunity” and turned it into Capitalism, while also forcing people to fight his toys that just kinda came to life and started fucking around.

I love this game.

Asura Appreciation Week 2023 - Day One

Ok so I just stumbled over this post from @asura-appreciation-corner and hell yes! I wanna talk about my sharkrats so let's go!

Day One: Talk about one of your asura OCs! Who are they? What's their deal?

I decided to talk about Rerki, because she's my oldest asura OC and the one I started my journey with in GW2.

More about her under the cut because this is going to be somewhat long-ish:

So, Rerki is a necromancer (reaper by now) and the incarnation of my GW chars (Kairi Yiuan, also necro bc of course gotta be real here) and the very first thing that I decided about her was, that she has this midnest of "I'm a nice person, I help people. Because when they're dead they don't have problems anymore. So, killing them is helping them, therefore I'm nice."

She's not your typical hero; minding her own business and preffering to spend her time alone in her lab experimenting on poisons and minions and studying ancient necromancy stuff instead of going out of her way to help everyone she meets on the road.

She finds most (everyone, really) annoying and stupid and would rather not interact with other people if it can be avoided. Sadly enough, she got involved with the elder dragons and now has a dragon daughter so ... yeah, she's bound to meet people now, to her great dismay and disgust.

Rerki is often harsh and straight to the point, never sugar coating anything and always taking the most efficent route to get her goals done, no matter the cost.

The only instance that would have her change her approach would be when people are involved that she cares for (not that she would ever admit that). Behind closed doors, she can be very caring and gentle - in her own, uniquely blunt and insensible way. That includes Dillyn and Errube (her only remaining family members) and her Krewe (a group of misfits and unfortunate souls she "collected" over the years in her time with the Vigil & fighting Zaithan). And, of course Aurene.

But beyond that, she sees most people as beneath her and not worth the effort to talk to if she doesn't need them for something.

She became the Commander besides Dillyn and Errube, wich each of them representing one of the Orders of Tyria; but after Zaithan was slayn she retreated to her lab and continued her research (I never played Living World 1 with her so she never personally met the Dragon's WAtch gang). Until Mordremoth rose and she was needed once more.

After Mordremoth's defeat, she was done with Elder Dragon's however and gladly let Dillyn take over the mantle of the Commander. She's still part of Dragon's Watch and ready to jump in and help but is way more passive now; while Errube acts alongside the Order of Whispers in the shadows.

Rerki also has a phobia against white rabbits thanks to a stupid accident 250 years ago when she was a human exploring the North and stumbled across a secluded cave. No, she will not elaborate and if you ever mention that again you'll die. Slow and painfully.

That's all I can think of now, although theres more to this nasty angry lil sharkrat but I'm out of time and ideas right now so, yeah - thanks for reading!

so true i always liked that gw also had options that arent just Human But Green or Human With Different Ears

i do think they couldve gone a bit funkier with syIvari (considering the pale tree equally had a centaur parent), though i dig the bioluminescence, & could've gone a lot boxier with f norn, but i really love how they commit to charr and asura in many aspects

I dont have very much experience with mmos, and my histories with both gw2 and ffxiv are Falling Madly In Love With It Before Ive Even Beaten The Tutorial and Buying All The Expansions and immediately falling off because of some kerfuffle or another game catching my attention. But i wanna get back into them now!

GUILD WARS 2 CHARACTERS

Revylin- it/any sylvari, cycle of dusk,mesmer. Just call it Revyl! My current main im using to relearn the game! Got converted to the nightmare court as a sapling for its higher than usual magical aptitude, had an Awful Time and was rescued by the Wardens before it could become a knight. Now travels around tyria pursuing a wyld hunt he cant remember (itll be fine!! itll come back to him itll be fiiiiiine) working as a dancer/storyteller before getting tangled up in the Plot

Irysel- she/they sylvari elementalist. max level commander from my original 2019 playthrough! idk if i’ll ever play her again but i remember having such a blast with elementalist i’ll probably try her again eventually

Rika Sunstalker- he/they ash legion charr thief. old dnd character made gw character! the campaign he was in stopped so now he only exists here! a gladium, formerly rika sunblaze, who got his warband killed?? Somehow??? and took the stalker name/joins a pirate crew of other disgraced charr to travel and see the world (still working his details out adldjd)

(I havent made these next few characters ingame yet, but plan to once im farther along!)

Irene- he/she sylvari, cycle of noon, guardian. Warden turned adventurer turned revyl's travelling partner (and eventual co-commander and lover!) Very devout dreamer with a strong sense of justice and desire (read: overwhelming uncompromising need) to be the pale tree's most devout, prized, heroic son. Travels around tyria working up the ranks of the vigil, trying very very Vewy hard to fuffil a wyld hunt she cant remember (all he knows is that it Must be tied to revyl. thats why she feels that way whenever revyl looks at her, right?)

FFXIV CHARACTERS

Ciel D’luxe- he/they viera summoner/archer hes my little meow meow so full of problems. hes a drag queen. he has trust issues. hes trying to find love even though he thinks hes the wettest most miserable man in eorzea. his ex is hunting him for sport. the only reason he became a summoner was because he saw a carbuncle for the first time and Lost It. hes a bitch hes a lover hes my little booboo bear

(havent made these characters ingame yet but plan to!)

alta haragin- she/it au'ra pugilist/lancer (or pugilist/gladiator? i know i can technically have all three but shes gotta have two Mains yknow), Rapscallion Criminal turned pit fighter turned adventurer turned ciels girlfriend and co-captain of ciels adventuring party

drakaz verkach-he/him hroth hhhhheavy armor class of some sort. maybe he'll be the gladiator. the beavis to altas butthead. just here for a good time! please pay no attention to my myriad mental health issues/simultaneous identity crises

(this last guy is a joke character but i honestly cant gey him out of my head maybe ill make him a retainer like i wanna do with kaz)

nagayuki ittetsu-any pronouns au'ra(?) spellcaster who wants to ammase enough power to Become A Primal. he is always and forever getting tricked by ascians/beast clans/random fucking guys and gets Almost Murdered several times-
