98 Gus the Theater Cat

Sir John Mills is hands down the best Gus in my mind. Part of that is likely the fact that he really was old. But he brought a sweetness and moments of flickering gravitas to the role. and when he starts to cry? everybody cries.

I wanted to do a picture that was old Gus remembering himself in his prime and some of the different parts he played. There is, of course, Growltiger. But there is also Firefrofiddle, who i always headcanoned as looking like that memory/mirage/ghost that wonders around during Gus's song in the 98 proshoot.

This picture is huge and took so long but i am very proud of how it turned out. I had a lot of fun looking at pictures of a young John Mills when working on this. And squinting at 98 screenshots trying to see how that transparent cat was dressed! XD

On my last post I got suggestions for outfits for the cats to be in. I grouped these two together because I thought they would go nicely together.

Sorry for the late post, I'm back in school (womp womp). The coloring isn't exactly finished since I don't have much time, but I really wanted to post this!! I love seeing everyones posts for CATS-PRIL!!

Hello! I was wondering if I could request a cute little doodle of Gus the Theatre Cat happily purring (happy Gus makes me smile)?

Good way to put Gus back in a good mood when he’s agitated is to give him one of the grandkitties because he’ll instinctually start purring to them, which calms him down in turn.

For Cats-pril day 11; Gus used to be the resident storyteller of the tribe, until the words he wanted to say couldn’t leave his mouth anymore and every tale seemed to be a little more the same. He’ll happily listen to any wonderful story the kittens have to offer him, though.

For the first time in ever I made an bowing video cause of Fem Carbucketty (second one). Also have a Bomba and Demeter <3

Some changes Vienna makes when Carbucketty is played by a female swing (Jo Lucy Rackham) or what stays the same.

She is the one clawing at Grizabella.

Misto takes the part of the lead Pollicle and Skimble has to do the Scotland Dog part alone.

Today (04.05.2022) at the beginning of the Ball, Carbucketty danced Carbucketty’s part (butt-to-butt with Vicky and after that with Misto). After that Skimble took over to dance with Misto while Carbucketty took Skimble’s part in the background and in the second half (after cuddle pile) Misto had to dance alone. (also during cuddle pile Carbucketty was cuddeling with Rumpleteazer, very cute, very wholesome)

Carbucketty is still the one who incites(?) Electra’s bad behaviour during Skimbleshanks.

Male Carbucketty seems a little more proud and and a little bit stuck up (Alonzo Jr.), female Carbucketty seems a little bit more cheeky, happy and playful.

During the bows she did the “Alonzo move”, the leg touch (second person in video above, sorry for the quality).

Some other things I noticed today (in no order because brain):

After helping Electra with the Trapez Admetus nuzzeled her head.

Lot of Carbucketty/Electra interaction. They were so cute during Skimble.

Munkustrap being very happy when he saw Demeter at the beginning of the second act (all in all I enjoy the Munkustrap and Demeter interaction very much in Vienna. They usually also have some cute interactions in the background during Gus the Theatre Cat and during Mistoffelees).

Amazing Macavity fight today. Nicolas Li (Macavity) did an amazing job. During his first apearenced Munkustrap tried to attack him and he just showed him his hand (hypnoticed him?) without even looking at him and Munkustrap became weak. It was a strong “talk to the hand” moment. And I love the Vienna Macavity design sue me. 

Sadly the Macavity fight is always over so fast it’s really hard to notice/remember something for me but today Macavity made a “come at me” gesture before Munkustrap jumped him. Said it one hundred times, will say it again. Love that Alonzo is played quite scared and uncertain but overcomes his fear. At the end Macavity literally pushed/shoved(?) him to the ground. He seemed dangerous and like a serious threat to the Cats after defeating Munkus and Alonzo. Very nice acting.

Also a lot of Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer and Electra interaction.

Bill Bailey hugged Bustopher Jones. Very cute excited boy.

Carbucketty tried to play with Bustopher’s tail but Skimble was like: Don’t you dare and shooed her away.

When Grizabella appeared for the last time Demeter really wanted to touch her. It seemed like Old Deut gestured her that she could touch Grizabella but Munkustrap stood in her way again. She hissed at Old Deut and it seemed like she was angry, like she was saying: You said it’s okay but now it’s not okay??? Make up your mind! She was also very happy and relieved when Victoria finally touched Grizabella.

Alonzo and Cassandra played very in love(?) during the Jellicle Ball. After the leg up part they left together and Alonzo seemed very happy, when he followed Cassandra. 

Also during the last song Cassandra (Anneka Dacres) made A+ facial expressions when Old Deut was singing about food.

Something I noticed today as well for the first time: Admetus and Cassandra have quite a few interactions during the Rum Tum Tugger: President and vice president of the Tugger fan club (you descide who is who). Cassandra is the cat who faints and Admetus catches her. Also during Misto’s line they danced? together. It is hard to describe but Cassandra was kind of swimming(?) on Admetus back. The Vienna translation doen’t call Tugger boring rather he is a cat who “brings movement into the house”, I don’t now any English idiom to translate that back into English. So I guess she brings movement to the stage to visualize the line.

At the end the obligatory I love this cast shout out: I love this cast. Talented people. Very good in portraying their roles. Quality make up.

Had an amazing seat today. Again “the man over there” with Munkustrap looking at my general direction two times. Carin Filipcic (Grizabella) was on fire today. She had so much emotions in her voice and played the hopefullness so well. And today because I never said it before: Felix Martin is an amazing Gus/Growlitger/Bustopher Jones/”Peter”. He has so many small fun interactions with all the characters and the audience loves him.
