Our fantastic friend and current animator of a certain kids TV series - walked me though making this (^) end-video beauty using Final Cut X! He’s a total awesome friend/bro and everyone should check out his REAL stuff :) TMNT and Megan Fox jokes anyone?

He also helped us film our video for DROWNED.

(^ dats my voice dere) My name is Mel and I do stuff. I also love supporting people who do stuff. I love gaming (video games, card games and most of all Tabletop RPG games), music, podcasts and all manners of creative expression. I work on a few projects... of the ones having released and/or currently releasing content are my band @gupmusic and a Tabletop RPG/Pokemon World Discussion blog @dungeonsanddragonairs with my fellow Pokéfans. Waiting to hit the stage. Was a bit nervous tonight without Jesse - I sang some of the old GUP songs: All My Life, Never Love Again and My Yesterday and everyone was super receptive. Plus I got two awesome guys to improv for me some backup in the form of a bassist and drummer. I met a lot of local music lovers and was even invited up on stage to help sing an impromptu version of Wicked Game and Lovers in a Dangerous Time. Overall a fabulous night.

SippChai - A Hidden Live Music Gem in Abbotsford

Last Friday night Jesse and I trekked over into Abbotsford to join in on an open mic we’ve only recently stumbled upon.

We went there a couple months ago and haven’t made it back until now - but it’s still going strong even with the summer months drawing people to camping and holiday adventures.

We played a few new songs that no one had heard before just to see how the small room responded. The song I was most nervous about was the one I got the most response about - so I hope that’s a good sign!

The owner of Sippchai is Jas - and he is a complete source of encouragement, community spirit and positivity. His entire cafe is decked out in small tokens of great spiritual leaders and his facebook page just exudes support to many local artists - in music, dance and beyond.

For a guy running a coffeshop/sometimes restaurant bar style joint and from what I can tell, on his own 7 days a week, he has so much energy. I really appreciate his dedication to the local community and just wanted to express my upteenth gratitude for his support.

To top this post off - we’ll be hosting and playing at Sippchai on Saturday September 2nd. Details and other artists for the show are to be announced but we’re hoping to have some new gems for everyone to enjoy!

My band @gupmusic was recently featured on a new Podcast that has been posting every couple weeks a really great music act to check out. 

It’s run by this guy, Chris Jackson, and he’s super passionate about getting the word out for unsigned music to find them homes in the ears of listeners. He’s curated six amazing episodes before us and I really think if you’re on the look out for something new to find - you should take a listen. I found some really good stuff that I liked on it and I’m ALWAYS looking for new emerging music.

The Spice Girls. Need I say more? I probably spent the whole year I owned the Spice World VHS (almost said DVD haha) watching it and rewinding to Spice Up Your Life. I wanted so badly to be like them up on stage with headset microphones dancing and bobbing my head soaking up the lights. I was seven. And sometimes now when I'm supposed To be an adult and it's just too difficult- I crank this up in my little kia soul and blast it like I don't give a damn. And I'm 22. But It makes me feel dreamy again and gives me that motivating moment of - I can be whatever the hell I want to be. Because kids don't give a crap about money or jobs or success. They care about happiness and dreams. And that's who I want to be. -Mel
