Sooooo... tagging this for the Fangs of Fortune crowd, too, because this will be most likely the next Guo Jingming drama to be released.

Youku currently says 2024, but I don't really believe that. First half of 2025 is more likely. The official English title for this drama will be Hidden Shadow (Chinese: 烽影燃梅香/Fengying Ranmeixiang).

I'm very much looking forward to Li Hongyi in this. He usually plays a very specific type of character (which is stone-cold bitch) and he does it very well. (His character in The Blood of Youth, Xiao Se, is one if my all-time favorite characters. ❤)

I'm also happy to see Yan An again (this time in a completely different role, apparently; my God, he looks so innocent and charming), as well as Ai Mi and Zuo Ye (I hope they won't play star-crossed lovers again 😂) and, of course, Omid. And I'm extremely happy to see Hankiz Omar in this, I just loved her in Ultimate Note. 💜

This will be more of a historical drama, but I'll take anything if I can just see beautiful, unhinged people in incredible costumes again, seasoned with the usual generous pinch of queerness. 😌

Mini-review:

I loved Oh No! Here Comes Trouble so much that I looked up creator Lin Kuan Hui right away, and that's what brought me to this movie. Unfortunately, I can't say I feel the same way about it. Sure, it has quite a few funny moments and manages to be surprising from time to time, but overall it fell flat for me. I don't know, I guess I went in with too many expectations. All in all, Secrets in the Hot Spring is an average horror-comedy that tends to forget about the first part of its subgenre.

Fangs of Fortune (ep. 27)

Literally nothing about this show is straight XD Finally, Ying Long mentioned my most favorite word of all time in regards to M/M relationship - zhiji, which, I guess, is closest to the English 'soulmate' or 'confidante' but could mean a whole Universe of things depending on context and the level of closeness between people. But it's much MUCH more than just 'friends'. Although the show does use the term 'pengyou' extensively which I think is basically that - friends and partners, but without the X factor if you know what I mean. But I'm still seeing queer everywhere no matter what they call it omg)))

So, the remnants of Ying Long's soul introduced us to the concept of what Zhuo Yichen's and Zhao Yuanzhou's relationship is actually all about (I gather Ying Long and Bing Yi were about the same judging by the way they interacted and, uh, shared a very similar destiny). Well, we've had the ultimate type of foreshadowing - the very straightforward glimpse into the future where Zhuo Yichen does kill Zhao Yuanzhou, so now it's kind of a given point in time - the suffering is already there, we're just slowly moving towards the inevitable. The show does know how to inflict pain on its viewers D:

How pretty are they as Ying Long and Bing Yi :3 But also, Bing Yi couldn't let Ying Long go and saved a part of his soul for thousands of years D: heartbreak everywhere

But, other than that, this particular episode was so cute, and did we just have a MPREG joke? XD I mean, Mr. Guo must have been protected by some cdrama BL gods and goddesses for this stuff to pass censorship (god bless). It's hilarious XD And Zhuo Yichen calling Zhao Yuanzhou a bad influence on him right after the joke XD I can't with them)))

Oh, the moment when ZYZ and ZY see each other after breaking free from the ice is so precious - there's so much warmth and understanding. And then Zhuo Yichen watches Wen Xiao hug ZYZ and realizes that he'll die and she'll be heartbroken (yes, nothing can prepare them for that kind of grief, destiny, or no destiny).

wait.. i’m literally on here or weibo almost 24/7 ( as you can tell lol ) but I feel like i missed something. i’m seeing clowning related to xz’s photos and how it looks like he is a groom and it’s a wedding photoshoot. the place is also famous for wedding shoots ( allegedly, idk. i’m not from there ) so turtles are imagining again. lol. freakin coincidence that wyb’s GRA photoshoot was done at a wedding shop. plus the “wedding outfits” for weibo night. which is all clowning and galaxy braining.🌌

then i see comments that there is this one song WYB recently listened to. meaning, as recent as when XZ flew to singapore which is called 超人不会飞 (superman can’t fly) by Jay Chou. i know WYB and everyone else is a big fan of Jay Chou but the clowning comes from the timing of when he listened to it. let me get to that first.

turtles are interpreting it as WYB longing to “fly” to where XZ is and be with him but he can’t because of all his work commitments. he wants to take a breather. thinking about what his life is and the constraints, and at times like this, when they spent days in Beijing, but now they have to be apart, it affects him even more.

however when i read the lyrics, it could also be because he can relate to what jay chou is singing about. here’s the english translation i found here. i have bolded the ones i felt like WYB relates too. literally no need for explanation. just read it. It fits with his status in life so much that it’s almost scary.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with how cpfs are relating this to cpn cause that’s just how it is. But sometimes, there are other reasons why they do what they do.

SO MY CONFUSION COMES FROM HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE KNOW WHAT HE RECENTLY LISTENED TO. I can’t seem to dig up how or maybe it’s something we don’t talk about. I have never experienced this kind of tidbit related to them before so I wanna know the source. Summary:

There are messengers from the magistrate who pick up the father in law. When he comes back he says that Jia Yu-cun is the new magistrate and he wanted to invite Zhen but he ran away from home like a cat when you leave the door open so he had the father in law come instead.

Another messenger came with a bunch of stuff on behalf of Yu-cun and asked if he could have Lucky as his second wife (he doesn't ask Lucky is she wants to marry him, he only requests that the father in law asks Mrs. Zhen if he could marry her) because she is the maid he locked eyes with once for a couple second two years ago and then she was brought to him.

Yu-cun was later fired because he subverted justice for his own gains a couple times and went back home with his family. There he met Lin ru-hai, his wife who was another Jia and their daughter Dai-yu who he began tutoring.

A year passed and the wife died and Dai-yu became sick so she had to take a break from tutoring.

Yu-cun was going for a walk when he found a temple called the temple of perfect knowledge where he saw an inscription he thought was profound. He decided to go to the inn where he met a friend.

The friend talked about something happening with the Jia family in the Rong-Guo and Ning-Guo mansions, a baby was born with a piece of jade in his mouth and when the baby was one it was more attracted to traditionally feminine things, he is now 10 and is very smart and mischievous. They also talk about the family history of the family which i won't recount here, all you need to know is that Jia Zhen is in charge of the Ning-Guo mansion and refuses to do his proper duties and his father went away as a taoist to become immortal.

Yu-cun then talked about moral philosophy for the next 10 god damn pages. He says there are some people who are really good and some who are really bad and children can sway either way. Also if a child loves women too much and are doted on too much they will never become responsible. Also there are 3 young girls in the Jia household, Ying-chun, Tan-chun, and Xi-chun. Then Yu-cun got up to leave, ending the chapter

Thoughts:

This chapter was not good like the last one, setting up the lore at the beginning was ok but after yu-cun sat down with his old friend it just got so wordy and boring, especially the part when he starts talking about people being moral and what not. I don't know how much more of this I can take.

Some recently released cdrama posters that caught my eye.

Love of the Divine Tree - I shall remain from making “woody” jokes and am just gonna say that this is a ridiculously pretty poster and Deng Wei’s wig is ON POINT!

I am so excited for Blossom (which just got its license! Pls air asap before someone doesn’t pay their taxes or visits a Japanese shrine or hires hookers or whatever!) and the poster is just gorgeous. Also I adore Meng Ziyi and am excited for LYR to finally get to be a leading man.

Speaking of excited - just seeing a reminder that Zhao Lusi and Liu Yuning are reuniting in a costume drama and this time as the MAIN couple is making me so incredibly giddy! Come on The Story of Pearl Girl, air already!!!

Speaking of Liu Yuning, A Dream Within a Dream is the other drama I am so excited for - the small but delicious subgenre of authors/readers falling for the villain of the story speaks to my id! Too bad he ain’t wearing that sexy mask from the promo shots but we can’t have everything!

This poster is kinda awkward tbh but I put it here because Love of Nirvana trailer was SO good that I pathetically yearn for any crumb from it. It’s rumored for September and I so hope it’s true and I so hope it’s good!

Song Yi’s latest outing was meh but I adore her anyway and every time I see Cheng Lei finally getting to be a leading man, I get happy. Also Shadow Love is based on JLFX novel - haven’t read this one but I tend to love most of her stuff!

Feng Ying Ran Mei Xiang poster. Not a fan of WCR but she plays an assassin and I am weak for that. Plus with Guo Jingming involved you know it’s gonna be gorgeous and I have a huge soft spot for Li Hongyi.

Speaking of Li Hongyi, I know nothing about this drama but it looks pretty! Flying Up Without Disturb is an awful name though!

That is what I call a lazy poster and I am still puzzled as to why they renamed it to Long for Fish as as if it’s some sort of a seafood restaurant but I loved the novel and am ridiculously fond of Chen Feiyu so here we are.

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) Masterpost

Wang Chuan Feng Hua Lu (忘川风华录) is a Vocal synth (Vocaloid and SynthV) music project. It consists of songs themed around different figures throughout Chinese history. The project is a collaboration between different artists and creatives, with music and videos featuring prominent traditional Chinese elements. The project's title translates to "The Records of Magnificence of the Wangchuan" - In Chinese mythology, "Wangchuan" (or River of Forgetting) is a river in the Underworld that can rid one of their past life's memories, similar to the river Lethe.

A mobile game adaptation has also been developed by NetEast. Unfortunately, I haven't played it so I can't give much insight on it. However, I assume that its premise is similar to that of the idea behind the project as a whole: all these historical figures meeting each other in the Underworld after they died. Maybe.
