It looks like word press readers enjoy my book reviews and I love reading and sharing my opinion on them. I am currently reading a few books and will take the next few posts to review these books and some of my favourite classics. I know this is more than a few week late, but here was my my final month of reading for 2020! January’s haul included two books on the study and the dynamics of power from the original maestro Niccolo Machiavelli in “The Prince” and his modern contemporary Robert Greene in “The 48 Laws of Power.” Jared Diamond’s study on how Guns, Germs, and Steel shaped the modern in terms of Imperial conquest and current haves and have nots. And finally a book on the experience of the 1PPCLI battle ground in Afghanistan during their 2006 deployment centred around their Charlie Company. Having spent more time in the army since I read this book years ago, I’ve met many of the people who appear in this book and my respect for them cannot be matched. 2020 wasn’t a great year for many people for a lot of reasons, but for book lovers it was certainly a real treat! I was able to read 51 books this year, just shy of one a week! I’m writing this just before I deploy to the field on an ex for my Cold Weather Leader course. I’m going to be away from him on course until April so believe my reading goal for this year will take hit. 30 Days no Passive Entertainment Day 11 of 30

Yup, missed almost a week of journals. It started getting hard.

At about day 7 I just wanted to be bored. I didn’t feel like reading, or learning or working on my models. My body was exhausted from all the extra working out and in pain. I just wanted to laugh and I realize I have very little humor in my life. No Southpark, or Brooklyn 99, no fail videos or just joyous entertainment. I’m still reaping a lot of benefits but my motivation and relaxation is suffering.

I don’t want to go home at all and that’s mostly beneficial. My conversations with people are more intent. My attention is completely focused but I’m sending a lot more money staying out. It’s never a good time to spend more money but the week or two after the holidays is probably the worst. For some reason I’m sleeping better but more exhausted.

It could be for any number of reasons but I feel like it’s because I’ve got all the time I need to get done what I want. It’s that nagging voice saying that I should be doing more that still isn’t satisfied. I need to reassess and reprioritize otherwise what’s the point of this?
