thanks so much for this! I already have your newsletter and Dracula Daily credited in the description for the sideblog â which is @oywcalendar btw!
hi there!
I love the work youâve done on the newsletter, it inspired me to do something similar: Iâm curating a blog thatâs going to post events from the Mobile Suit Gundam series as they happen.
I was wondering if you could give me any advice on how to get the word out before the scheduled posts start? Iâve put in a lot of work and Iâm anxious for it to find an audience, but I donât want to use blaze or things like thatâŚ
Hi!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy the newsletter made you want to do something similar, and that we keep the inspiration cycle going đ (I got the idea from Dracula Daily, after all!) It's a genuinely wonderful thing to hear!
When it comes to advice, I have to preface with saying I was very lucky, because I was definitely not starting from scratch - I had had this blog for over five years when I decided to organise the newsletter for the first time, and it's a side blog devoted to only one topic, which meant there were already a couple thousand people following me and interested in LOTR when I got the idea.
BUT. When I started posting about the newsletter, I noticed it reached places beyond my usual tumblr circle, so that's honestly the best advice I have. I was posting about it as I was preparing the text, I was adding the 'lotr newsletter' tag to all my lotr posts that it was relevant to, so that the name floated around somewhere in the main tag and maybe grabbed someone's attention. I wrote a post with detailed explanations about what was happening, when, where, with all the relevant links attached, and I pinned it to the top of my blog.
Another thing - I think it was good to describe the newsletter in the simplest way possible at first - "dracula daily but with LOTR" - because people were familiar with dracula daily, and so it was just easy to explain the concept by saying "it's the same, but with XYZ instead". It's a fan project that I'm doing for free, so it's not exactly stealing the idea, and I wasn't ashamed to say that's 100% what inspired me. Also, it was just giving credit where credit was due.
I think that is honestly most of I did - I was just very excited about the project and not shutting up about it - and posting/mentioning it regularly definitely helped to some extent.
(Also, I want to invite everyone who sees this to share what worked for them and got them interested in the newsletter, so that canuckianhawkbi can hear the readers' perspective, too! I can try to help by saying what I was doing, but I can't say for sure which of those things worked best for people.)
Please don't hesitate to keep asking if you want me to clarify/expand on anything! â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

I'm trying to resist posting opinions about Zeta Gundam until I get to the end because having seen more than one Gundam show I know that at any moment it will absolutely shred my insides and I will stop watching it for months or even years
#I think after Mobile Suit Gundam upset me enough I walked away for . . .#gosh that might have been a full calendar year before I went back to watch the last few episodes#war in the pocket saves it right for the last five minutes and then takes away your will to live#0083. . . no complaints actually#that one I remember being pretty solid#speaking of that one I should go back and do a better job on that GP-02A kit I have#I didn't really do it justice

It might be exactly the same considering it's not actual dialogue, but really I want to go track down the original version of these panels to see what Bright's newspaper cartoon swearing looks like.
Job John flexing his seniority when he probably isn't any more than 3-4 years older than the youngest of the teenagers on White Base is simultaneously funny, but also kinda sad...
Experiencing the lead up to Ryu's death for the 3rd time now is a little excruciating, but he still gets off some cool one liners before his end.
I wasn't a big fan of the addition of Amuro and Hayato beating on each other when everyone was grieving for Ryu, but I can understand where it comes from emotionally. (Also, while I really like it, the original scene with everyone getting on their hands and knees and sobbing is kinda over the top đ)
Since I really like Mirai and felt like her personal life really needed to be expanded on, I always appreciate when they talk about her family.
And speaking of personal lives, I feel like this does a lot to give Bright some more depth without saying that much. What did he want to do...
Dubious medical experimentation isn't an uncommon plot point at all, especially in sci-fi stories, but I wonder if Amuro's Newtype abilities being tested was faintly inspired by a similar thing happening in one of Yasuhiko's other projects (Giant Gorg). In the latter's case, the psychic ability being tested is the main character's psychic link with his mecha, but both of these scenes involved oxygen deprivation and stress testing (?) as part of the tests.
I'll give a few points of respect back to the Acguy for getting a tiny bit more lore in this manga.
Char has absolutely no business saying something like this đ
I take back my comments about being disappointed that the Adzam got cut out of the story because it just got shifted over to someone else. (Also, the first author margin note so far being here made me laugh.)
Bonus corner:
GarcĂa Romeo as a character fascinates me because it's like if M'Quve's self-absorbed nature and megalomaniacal tendencies (and his love for vases) (and the Adzam) were split off into an entirely new guy. Whatever the equivalent to Odessa Day and the Gyan battle will be hasn't happened yet, though, so M'Quve might still end having those traits after all.
And the other thing that fascinates me is his complete obsession with M'Quve that's just...well...I don't know...
#the new plot point of char manipulating the indigenous people of the area around jaburo is kinda make me scratch my head a little#but i guess it's not a new story for gundam even if the other plot like that wasn't about real people#i will bide my time and see considering the events surrounding it are all mixed up and put in a new order#but if the acting captain mirai plot doesn't happen i'll be so sad...#it did not take me (checks calendar) three months to read this volume#i just kept forgetting to put this together because i was busy lol#O-4#ă

I still think very few mech designs convey Strong Motherfucker The Unlimited in a way Gundam 00's Regnant did:
Broader shoulders than Lucy Lawless in Xena: Warrior Princess, a general silhouette that tells you this thing is going to transform into something else that doesn't need legs or feet to kick your ass into the next calendar designation, huge big red confident claws in a world of beam blades, enough mystery orifices that you can't really confidently ascertain what's a beam cannon and what's a test from the Lord, skipped leg day and overcompensated with Shirou At The End Of Heaven's Feel arms, will practically knock over every vase and painting whenever it walks into any room with its greatsword shoulders, piloted by the angriest white woman in the world pumped full of Angry Drug whilst wrestling with Super Space White Guilt:

Syncing Dream [Aespa x M!Reader]
10. Day off becomes show off
Note: hope you know how to fight
Masterlist here

(Side note: i fcking love this gundam armoured aespa fr)
The morning sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting a warm glow over the dorm as Y/n checked his phone. As usual, his mind was prepped for the dayâs chaotic schedule, expecting back-to-back appointments, rehearsals, and meetings. But as he scrolled through the groupâs calendar, something strange caught his eye.
No rehearsals. No interviews. No photoshoots.
A day off?
Y/n blinked. It had been ages since theyâd had a full, unscheduled day since MAMA, and for a moment, he didnât believe it. After double-checking to make sure he wasnât missing anything, a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
This was the perfect opportunity to give the girls a breakâaway from the stress and cameras.
Throwing on a hoodie, he knocked on each dorm room door, rousing the group from their sleep.
âWake up, everyone! Iâve got something planned.â
Giselle was the first to emerge, hair sticking out in all directions, still wrapped in her blanket. She rubbed her eyes groggily. âIs it breakfast? Tell me you made pancakesâŚâ
Y/n chuckled. âNot quite. But get ready. Weâre going to the park. I made a lunch basket for us.â
The reaction from the rest of the members was similarâconfused but intrigued. Winter poked her head out from her room, eyes half-closed. âA park? What are we, in a drama? And why is it sound romanticâ She yawned loudly.
Karina followed suit, still looking half-asleep. âA park sounds⌠nice, I guess?â
âHey, we can't just stay indoors when the sky is this nice.â Y/n grinned, clapping his hands together. âNow, letâs get moving.â
An hour later, the group found themselves standing at the entrance of a quaint city park. It wasnât grand or flashy, just a small, peaceful spot nestled away from the usual bustling city life. A winding path led to a pond, ducks paddling lazily in the water, and a few bicycles stood nearby, available for rent.
âA park, really?â Winter raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms. âThis was your big plan?â
Giselle stretched, taking in the scene. âIâm not complaining. Itâs nice to have some quiet time.â
Y/n held up a tote bag filled with snacks. âLook, weâve been running around nonstop for weeks. A relaxing day in the sun will do us all some good.â
Karina eyed him suspiciously. âWhat kind of snacks?â
Y/n smirked, pulling out bags of sandwiches. âThe good kind.â
That seemed to do the trick. With renewed enthusiasm, the girls grabbed a few bikes from the rental stand, gearing up for a leisurely ride along the parkâs paths. Y/n followed, feeling confident this would be a simple, peaceful day.
Well, until Ningning almost ran over a duck.
âWatch it!â Y/n called out as the youngest member veered off course, narrowly avoiding the waddling creature.
âI swear these bikes are taller than I remember!â Ningning complained, trying to steady herself. âOr maybe Iâve gotten shorter?â
Meanwhile, Karina wobbled dangerously as she tried to pedal forward, clearly struggling. âI think I forgot how to ride one of these thingsâŚâ
Before Y/n could offer help, he was too busy dealing with his own issues. As soon as he pushed off, his bikeâs front wheel jerked violently to the side, and he lost his balance, crashing into a nearby bush. The sound of his spectacular wipeout echoed through the park, causing an eruption of laughter from the girls.
âNice strike, Y/n!â Giselle called out, barely able to contain her giggles. âYouâre really setting a great example for us!â
Y/n groaned as he disentangled himself from the bush. âOkay, fine. Maybe I suck.â
It took a few minutesâand a lot more laughterâbut eventually, they all managed to get moving smoothly. The group cycled leisurely along the parkâs paths, the fresh air and rare freedom lifting their spirits. Despite the shaky start, the atmosphere was light and carefree.
At one point, Giselle and Winter challenged each other to a race, leaving the others trailing behind. Y/n, never one to back down, joined inâonly to accidentally steer himself and Giselle straight into a patch of tall grass, much to the amusement of Karina and Ningning, who were practically in tears laughing.
âMaybe stick to managing, Y/n,â Karina teased as he pulled his bike free from the grass.
âSo mean, Jiminâ Y/n grumbled, but he couldnât help grinning. âIâm just warming up.â
After a while, they parked their bikes near the duck pond and wandered over to feed the ducks. Y/n handed out snacks, though he wasnât entirely sure feeding crackers to ducks was the right move.
Karina tossed a few pieces into the water, watching as the ducks swam around, fighting over the crumbs. âYouâre supposed to give them bread, right?â
âI think weâre not supposed to give them anything, actually,â Y/n replied, scratching his head. âBut... they seem happy enough.â
"Yea, they're the presences of their own kind." Winter joked. "IdiotsâŚ"
"I heard that, crybaby."
The group spent a good portion of time by the pond, laughing at the antics of the ducks. One particularly clumsy duck kept missing the food, prompting Ningning to point and say, âThat one reminds me of Y/n.â
"See? I told you Ning." Winter chimed in, clearly amused by the comparison.
Y/n rolled his eyes, though he couldnât stop smiling. For the first time in a while, it felt like they could just be themselves, without the constant pressure of schedules, rehearsals, or fans.
Well, except for one fan.
His eyes landed on a figure standing not too far away, partially hidden behind a tree. The person was wearing a hoodie, the hood pulled up over their face. It couldâve been anyoneâa park visitor, maybeâbut the way they lingered, half-concealed, raised alarm bells.
Y/nâs stomach tightened. Heâd seen this kind of behaviour before. Sasaeng.
âEverything okay?â Karina asked, noticing his shift in demeanour.
Y/n kept his voice low, not wanting to alarm the rest of the group. âDon't wanna scare you, but thereâs someone following us. Donât look, heâs at 5 oâclock â
Karinaâs expression darkened. âSasaeng?â
âProbably,â he confirmed, his eyes never leaving the figure.
Karina let out a frustrated sigh, clearly fed up with the constant intrusion on their privacy. âCanât we just have one day? Just one?â
Y/n nodded grimly. âUnfortunately, no. But Iâm going to check on him.â
Karina hesitated. âBe careful. Some sasaengs... they donât exactly handle being confronted well.â
Y/n glanced over his shoulder, noticing that the figure had gotten closer. It was now or never. âEhhh..Iâll be fine. Just stay here with the girls.â
As he approached the sasaeng, his heart raced, but he kept his voice calm and steady. âHey, my guy, can I help you with something?â
The figure stiffened but didnât move. Up close, Y/n could see they were holding a phone, angled just enough to capture footage of the group from a distance.
âIâm just a fan,â the person mumbled, their voice muffled under the hood. âIâm not doing anything wrong.â
Y/n clenched his jaw. He didnât want to escalate the situation, but he also couldnât let this slide. âHey hey hey, I understand youâre a fan, and thatâs fine. But right now, the girls are trying to enjoy some time off. This is their personal space. Please respect that.â
The sasaengâs eyes flashed with something Y/n couldnât quite placeâfrustration? Defiance? Either way, they didnât budge. âIâm not leaving. I just want to see them.â
Y/nâs patience was running thin. âI understand, but they just want a breather from the public for today. Please donât make this a bigger deal than it needs to be.â
The tension hung thick in the air, and for a moment, Y/n wasnât sure if the sasaeng was going to back down. But then, with a huff of annoyance, they turned and started walking away, though Y/n couldnât shake the feeling that they werenât done.
He returned to the girls, who had been watching the whole exchange from a distance. Karina must've told them.
âDid they leave?â Giselle asked quietly.
âFor now,â Y/n replied, though his gut told him this wouldnât be the last time they saw that particular fan.
Winterâs expression softened. âYou handled that well, you know.â
Y/n shrugged, trying to play it off. âPart of the job.â
When the fun resumed, Ningning was busy trying to feed a particularly stubborn duck while Giselle and Karina lounged on the grass, seemingly forgetting tension that had just passed.
âYou good?â Karina asked, her tone casual, though Y/n could tell she was watching him closely. "You've been tense since that happened."
âYeah,â Y/n nodded, giving her a reassuring smile. âEverythingâs fine.â
But as the day went on, Y/n couldnât shake the nagging feeling that they were being watched. Every now and then, heâd glance over his shoulder, half-expecting to see the sasaeng again.
It wasnât until they were packing up to leave that he caught another glimpseâthis time, from a different part of the park. The same hooded figure, lurking in the shadows, watching them.
Y/nâs stomach twisted. That guy hadnât left.
As they piled into the van, he made a mental note to stay vigilant. Today had been fun, but he knew the peaceful days were always short-lived when it came to protecting the girls.
As the van pulled away, Karina, sitting next to him, gave him a sideways glance. âYou think weâre safe?â
Y/n forced a smile. âWeâre always safe... as long as Iâm around.â
"Damn, Oppa is confident now." Ningning teased.
"That's how I blitz through things, Ning-ah."
But deep down, he knew things were getting more complicated. Being their manager was more than just keeping track of schedules and rehearsals. He had to protect them, even on their days off.
And something told him that this wouldnât be the last time heâd face off with that sasaeng.
-
The fan meet was supposed to be the highlight of the weekâone of those heartwarming moments where aespa could connect directly with their fans.
However, things were rarely so simple for Y/n.
The chaos of his daily life as the groupâs manager had become his new normal, but today was different. He could feel it in the pit of his stomach, a gnawing anxiety he couldnât quite shake.
It wasnât just the usual nerves, either. Ever since the incident at the park with the sasaeng, Y/n had been on high alert, his senses sharper than ever. Though the obsessive fan hadnât made a direct reappearance, there were subtle signsâcryptic messages left on social media, strange accounts following aespaâs every move, and more importantly, a lingering presence. Y/n knew they hadnât been forgotten.
It already has issued into SM, but Y/n was still definitely on high alert.
Still, today was about the fans. The usual logistics of organizing a fan meet were challenging enough, but this time, Y/n had to be even more vigilant. Heâd personally gone through each gift from the fans, carefully making sure there were no suspicious items. Everything seemed to be in order, and the meet was progressing smoothly.
The girls were laughing, chatting with their fans, and signing albums while cameras flashed, capturing every moment. Y/n was supposed to be standing off to the side, handling minor hiccups as they came. But the real trouble began when the gifts started piling up backstage.
âY/n, can you help me move these?â one of the staff members called out, struggling with a box of gifts that had been left near the entrance. Y/n nodded, quickly setting aside his tablet and running to help.
The problem? He hadnât exactly been paying attention to where the gifts were being taken.
Somewhere between moving boxes and juggling event logistics, Y/n realised he had lost track of the pile of fan gifts meant to be distributed to aespa later. By the time the fan meet was in full swing, fans were asking about their gifts, only for Y/n to feel a rising sense of panic as he scanned the backstage area, the gifts nowhere in sight.
âWhere are they?â he muttered to himself, running his hands through his hair in frustration.
Giselle, noticing his distress, sidled up to him with a teasing grin. âLost something, Y/n?â
"âŚmaybe?"
"Oh." Giselle replied nonchalantly. "Surely not the fan gift right?"
He sighed heavily, rubbing the back of his neck. âI may or may not have misplaced the gifts... all of them.â
Giselle let out a snort of laughter, causing Ningning, who was standing nearby, to join in. âSeriously? All of them? Haven't seen you messed up majorly for a while.â
Y/n groaned. âYeah, yeah, laugh it up. But this is bad. The fans are going to freak out.â
Ningning shook her head, still giggling. âDonât worry about it. Fans love sitcomsâitâs relatable. Theyâll probably get a kick out of it. You know, seeing their gifts disappear into the void, never to return.â
Y/n managed a weak smile, appreciating their attempts to lighten the mood. âYouâre probably right. Still... this is not my best image yet.â
The girls, seeing how genuinely stressed he was, huddled around him in support. âDonât sweat it,â Karina said, giving him a reassuring nudge. âWeâve dealt with worse. Besides, the fans are here to see us, not obsess over some missing gifts.â
"Confident much?"
"Someone did say that's how he blitz through life." Karina mocked. "Now I thought about it, it was you, Y/n"
He appreciated their positivity, but the uneasy feeling in his chest refused to go away. The gifts were one thing, but his gut told him that something far more sinister was on the horizon.
As the fan meet began to wind down, Y/n made his rounds, keeping a watchful eye on the crowd. Most of the fans were energetic and cheerful, thrilled to be interacting with aespa, but he couldnât help scanning for any suspicious faces.
Thatâs when he saw the guy.
Near the back of the room, hidden among a cluster of fans, was the same hooded figure from the park. His blood ran cold. It was the sasaeng, and they hadnât come empty-handed.
"Guards on standby, we got a Code S." Y/n talked over the radio. "Please donât cause a scene and find him."
Without causing a scene, Y/n subtly moved closer, positioning himself between the sasaeng and the girls. As he did, he noticed something glinting under the sleeve of the sasaengâs hoodieâa knife.
His heart skipped a beat, and the world seemed to slow down. This is it.
Y/n had been trained for situations like this (he said trained, but he only had a taekwondo certificate a while ago), but nothing could truly prepare him for the moment it actually happened. He quickly scanned the area, assessing his options. Security wasnât close enough to intervene immediately, and he didnât want to alarm the fans or the group.
With a deep breath, Y/n locked eyes with the sasaeng. âHey, you, nice seeing you again,â he called out, his voice steady but firm. âI need to talk to you.â
The sasaengâs eyes darted to Y/n, and for a split second, Y/n saw itâthe sheer obsession, the dangerous mix of admiration and delusion. The sasaeng clutched the knife tighter, their knuckles white.
"Ah fcking damn itâŚ" Y/n muttered.
There was no time to wait for backup.
Y/n lunged forward, grabbing the sasaeng by the arm. The fan reacted immediately, swinging the knife wildly in his direction. He narrowly dodged the blade, adrenaline coursing through his veins as he wrestled the weapon from their grasp. The crowd hadnât yet noticed the struggle, too focused on aespa.
The sasaeng fought back, landing a punch to Y/nâs side, but he didnât let go. He managed to twist the fanâs arm behind their back, forcing the knife to clatter to the ground. Finally, security rushed in, pulling the sasaeng away and detaining them.
Panting, Y/n stood there, clutching his side, still trying to process what had just happened. The girls had noticed by now, their faces pale with shock. Ningning and Giselle were the first to rush over.
âOppa! Are you okay?â Ningning asked, her eyes wide with concern.
Y/n nodded, swallowing hard. âYeah... yeah, still alive.â
The fan meet was quickly wrapped up after that, with security escorting the sasaeng out and the remaining fans ushered toward the exits. The event had been going so well until that moment, and the sudden chaos left everyone rattled.
Later, in the safety of their van, the girls were silent, the weight of what had happened hanging in the air. Winter was whimpering after her intense bawling from worrying about her childhood friend. Y/n could just only chuckle at his adorable best friend.
âYou saved us,â Karina finally said, her voice quiet but full of gratitude. âThat couldâve been so much worse if you hadnât been there.â
Y/n shook his head, still processing everything. âI was just doing my job.â
But the gravity of what heâd done wasnât lost on anyone, least of all him.
-
The next day, Y/n rolled out of bed with a groan. His body still ached from the scuffle with the sasaeng, and while he wasnât one to complain, the dull throb in his side was a constant reminder of yesterdayâs chaos. He stretched, wincing slightly, before getting ready for the day.
Today was supposed to be business as usualâanother trip to the SM building for rehearsals and meetingsâbut nothing about this day felt normal. After all, it wasnât every day that you made headlines for tackling an obsessed fan. And while Y/n wasnât exactly thrilled about the attention, he knew it was inevitable. Heâd been in the industry long enough to know how fast news spread, especially when it involved something as dramatic as a knife-wielding sasaeng.
When he met up with the girls during breakfast in the living area, they were already buzzing with energy. Kind of wild that they moved on from the incident that quickly.
Ningning grinned at him, clearly enjoying the spotlight this incident had brought to their usually quiet manager.
âReady for your big day, supernova?â she teased, nudging him as they walked toward the van.
Y/n shot her a look, shaking his head. âPlease, no, Ning. Can we not make a big deal out of this?â
âToo late,â Giselle piped up from behind, her voice full of amusement. âThe whole buildingâs probably talking about you right now. Yunjin and Somi is gushing in the gc at the moment.â
As much as Y/n wanted to protest, he knew she was right. Ever since the news broke, heâd been flooded with messagesâboth from fans and people in the industry. It was surreal, really. Heâd never expected to be at the centre of attention, especially not for something like this.
When they arrived at the SM building, the atmosphere was different. Usually, the bustling halls were full of staff going about their daily business, but today, there was an undeniable buzz in the air.
As soon as they stepped inside, heads turned. The receptionist, who usually gave them a polite nod, smiled broadly at Y/n, her eyes twinkling with admiration. âGood morning, hero,â she greeted him, her tone playful.
Y/n blushed, ducking his head awkwardly. âMorningâŚ"
The teasing only got worse as they moved through the building. Other managers, particularly Minji and Joon, came up to him, clapping him on the back and offering words of congratulations.
âHey, Y/n! Saw the newsâman, that was some serious balls. How are you feeling?âJoon asked, giving him a firm pat on the shoulder.
âIâm fine,â Y/n mumbled, trying to downplay it. âJust... doing my job.â
âDoing your job?â Minji laughed. âYou tackled a guy with a knife! Iâd say thatâs a bit more than your typical dayâs work.â
Before Y/n could respond, a familiar voice called out from behind him. âThere he isâthe man, the myth, the legend!â
Y/n turned to see Taeyong and Mark from NCT walking toward him, grinning from ear to ear. Taeyong immediately pulled him into a friendly hug, his eyes twinkling with pride. âWe saw what happened, Y/n. That was insane. Are you sure youâre not secretly an action movie star or something?â
Mark nodded enthusiastically, his smile wide. âDude, youâre like the coolest manager now. Everyoneâs talking about how you saved the day.â
Y/nâs face flushed with embarrassment. âI secretly invested my stats in strength.â
But the teasing didnât stop there. As they made their way up to the practice rooms, other idolsâsome Y/n had trained with back in the dayâcame up to him with wide grins and playful jabs. It was overwhelming, to say the least.
The final straw came when they passed by one of the SM rookies who was clearly too shy to approach him directly. The young trainee whispered to their friend, their eyes wide with awe as they looked at Y/n. âIs that him? The manager who stopped the sasaeng? He looks so cool...â
Y/n sighed, shaking his head as the girls stifled their laughter. He could feel the heat rising in his cheeks, but there was no escaping it. He had become the talk of the building, whether he liked it or not.
By the time they reached the practice room, Y/n was ready to crawl into a hole and hide. But the girls, ever perceptive, noticed how uncomfortable he was and rallied around him.
âLook,â Karina said, giving him a rare smile, âyou might hate the attention, but weâre really grateful for what you did. That was seriously brave.â
âYeah,â Winter added, her voice soft but sincere. âYou're maybe an idiot, but you were genuinely cool back there.â
Ningning, of course, couldnât resist adding her own playful twist. âPlus, now youâre famous! Maybe youâll get your own fanbase.â
Y/n groaned, burying his face in his hands. âPlease, no fanbase. Thatâs the last thing I need.â
But despite his protests, he couldnât help but feel a sense of pride. The girlsâ words meant more to him than any praise from strangers. They were the ones he had sworn to protect, after all.
As they settled into their rehearsal, Y/n leaned back against the wall, watching the group with a small smile. The chaos of the past few days had been overwhelming, but it had also solidified his place in their lives. He wasnât just their manager anymoreâhe was part of their family.
Just as he thought things had finally calmed down, the door to the practice room burst open, and Seulgi from Red Velvet, his bias, poked her head in. âYa, Y/n! Heard youâre the buildingâs new hero! Whenâs the movie adaptation coming out?â
"Seulgi-noona, not you tooâŚ"
The girls burst into laughter as Y/n groaned again, knowing heâd never live this down.
But deep down, he didnât mind. He faced down a knife-wielding sasaeng, after all. He could handle a bit of teasing.

January 31, UC 0079
Beleaguered after a month of devastating losses, the Federation agrees to meet with a delegation from Zeon to discuss surrender.
Revil, who was able to see the true state of the Zeon homeland after his capture at Loum, is rescued by EFF agents in time to deliver a speech that will rouse the Federation into continuing the war:
youtube
Revil's intervention results in the Earth Federation and Principality of Zeon signing the Antarctic Treaty â banning the use of colony drops, nuclear weapons, and other means of mass destruction for the remainder of the conflict.
(A transcript of Revil's speech as presented in the above video can be found below the cut.)
"Fellow citizens of the Earth Federation, I speak to you now not only as General Revil, commander of our armed forces, but as Johann Abraham Revil, a survivor âlike many of you hereâ of this horrible war. Despite the innumerable losses, despite the state our Federation is in, I appeal to you all: Zeon is exhausted! They have become low on ships, weapons, troops, even ammunition! Why, then, should we surrender to Zeon?
"Let us not forget the arrogance of Degwin Sodo Zabi, who had usurped power within Zeon, proclaiming the people of Zeon as 'the chosen people.' He justified the idea that we of Earth are bound by Earth's gravity, stuck in archaic ways of thinking, incapable of grasping the new changes of life â and because of this, Zeon has no right to listen to the Earth Federation. However, although Degwin Zabi may be wrong about us as a whole, I will admit to him that if there are any true evils within our Earth Federation, it is the weak-kneed, bureaucratic leaders of our government â unable to ever think for themselves, sinking into their own corruption.
"However, this does not excuse Degwin Zabi for attempting to start a dynasty of Zeon dictators! Even if we do the impossible and recognize the Principality of Zeon as a sovereign nation, we will never sink to our knees in surrender! The Earth Federation was founded on the ideals of individual rights, the crystallization of knowledge within Earth. If not for the Federation government, then mankind would never have even ventured into the starry heavens of outer space.
"But now, Degwin Zabi's son, Gihren Zabi, wishes to take his father's vision a step further: by saying the Federation is weak and backwards in its ways of thinking, Zeon has the right to slaughter everyone who stands in the way of progress! Does this excuse the death of four billion people? No! The Federation will not excuse his monstrous actions!
"And so, fellow citizens of the Earth Federation, will Gihren send Luna 2 into Earth? No! Does Zeon have the ability to make troops from nowhere? No! Does Zeon, despite these facts, have the capability of defeating the Earth Federation? No! Gihren is hoping that by bluffing and sleight of hand, coupled with the loss of four billion lives, that the Earth Federation will surrender to him. However, because of my good fortune, I've witnessed the truth, and I shall reiterate it: Zeon is exhausted!
"Now, more than ever, we mustn't falter to their demands! We must rise up, as one unified Earth Federation, and defeat Zeon! Long live the Earth Federation!"

Heck it, time to infodump about my Gundam fan-series: Gundam Atlantis
This started with the real-world origins of the name "Gundam," which (according to what I read) comes from series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino envisioning the hero wielding a gun that could hold back a flood of enemies like a dam holds back water. So in this timeline that's the in-universe origin of the name Gundam too: a Gundam is "a weapon to hold back the flood."
The story is set in the year 97NC (Nautical Calendar), nearly a hundred years after global flooding left much of the old world underwater. People now live mainly on islands, both natural and artificial, or on houseboats. There's no outright war yet, but several factions are vying for power. Oh, and there are sea monsters, surrounded by mystery but widely believed to be mutated whales, and rumored to communicate with a rare few people called "whale singers."
Mobile suits in the Nautical Calendar evolved from diving suits, and are notably smaller than in other timelines, with the cockpit taking up most of the torso. Since they can safely operate underwater for long periods of time, they're widely used in many industries, such as construction, mining, farming, salvage dives, and inevitably, combat.
Our hero is Tisha Dryland, nicknamed "Mermaid," a girl who'd spent a long time sleeping in suspended animation inside a mobile suit on the ocean floor, until a salvage crew found her and woke her up. She just wants to search for her lost home of "Atlantis," protect her newfound family in the salvage crew, and learn about this new world she's woken up in. But the mobile suit she was found in is the Gundam Aqua, one of the highly sought-after Gundam suits, and it won't respond to anyone else, so every faction in the ocean wants both it and her!
I have a list of the factions and their mobile suits and am working on more info, but this post has reached my "oh no I'm boring people" limit so that's all for now

I watched Gundam MS IGLOO and...
So if you didn't know, MS IGLOO is a mini-series of nine OVAs. They are divided into sets of three (The Hidden One Year War, Apocalypse 0079 and Gravity Front) but the first two sets form a cohesive whole, both visually and narratively. So I'll refer to these two as season 1, and Gravity Front as season 2.
This is a fully CGI series that started coming out in 2004 and aims for a realistic art style. Yes, you were justified in raising those bushy little eyebrows of yours, so for once let's immediately talk about the visuals, focusing on season 1 for now. The few times I saw discussions about MS IGLOO, they were either people turned off by the CGI or other people asking them to give it a chance, they just have to get past the animation. But it's really not that simple. In visual mediums, the visuals are not just a dish for the story to be served on, they're an integral part of the story. I'm sure you can think of many moments in cinema, live-action or animated, where you could see a powerful and complex mix of emotions that would have needed 10 minutes of dialogue to be expressed, conveyed through just a few seconds of silent acting. And conversely, no matter how good the story or the voice acting, it's hard to get invested or find a character appealing when he looks like he comes from a PS1 opening cutscene. Which is actually mean to the PS1, Soul Reaver was on the PS1.
And yes, it's more than 20 years old, of course it wasn't gonna look like Secret Level. But maybe they could have checked the calendar and seen what year they were living in before going for full photorealism. That's the most difficult thing you could do in CGI, and there are alternatives that look fine or even great like the Clone Wars art style. The fight scenes are pretty well directed though, especially the tank fight in the second episode, and the CGI on all of the non-human stuff is quite decent, save for a few wonky elements. Doing forced perspective doesn't work if you move the camera, because then the parallax reveals that this dude is the size of a Zaku compared to this camp. But they succeed in giving the series that rusty, gritty look.
So, still focusing on season 1, if we manage to get past the unfortunate visuals, is it saved by the story? Weeeeeeeeeeeeeell no. At least I didn't think so. First, there's the fact that every episode follows the same format with only small variations: They get a prototype that their superiors don't believe in, a guy shows up to pilot it and they also don't believe in him, but after a few setbacks, he proves both his worth and the worth of the prototype, but gets killed or sacrifices himself in the process. Yes, I know it's the intention, but there's zero suspense and it's extremely artificial.
But here's the main problem for me. This is a story that focuses on Zeon soldiers, which has the potential to be interesting, grey and grey morality, everyone's a cog in the war machine, etc. But it looks like most of the time, the writer forgot about the fact that we're following space Nazis and that space Nazis are bad. Or that... you know... war is bad? Which is weird because there's a popular anime franchise that made this point repeatedly, which I'm sure the writer was very familiar with. It's called Gundam. Yes, the tone is very tragic, but it's all heroic deaths, soldiers going out in a blaze of glory, and episodes ending with the protagonist gazing wistfully into space as the Zeon flag appears behind him.
And like... the core of the first two episodes is humanity entering the age of Mobile Suits, so gunners, tanks and big cannons are being abandoned by the high command. But both times, veterans from the old guard prove their worth with a final heroic act, and then they die with a smile on their face because even though their time is coming to an end, at least in their final moment they've shown the world what they and their big cannon/tank were made of. And then white boy (yes, I've forgotten the protagonist's name, what do you want from me?) writes in his report that if it had been given a chance, this prototype could have been so effective, such a shame.
And... Kim, there's people that are dying. You're not gonna make me feel bad for your murder machines because they didn't get to murder enough people.
Episode 3 isn't better, basically the same thing but this time the prototype and the pilot got rejected because his competitors sabotaged his model. But in the end, he proves that it was actually good, yay for the death robot. Episode 4, I didn't even get that guy's deal but he sure was passionate about the sea. And episode 5... well they don't say that child soldiers are cool, but compare it with Thunderbolt. Here, you have teenage rookies sent to fight and everyone is shocked, but then one of them exceeds expectations and fights like a real pilot, destroying several federation balls. And he dies, but right before, he asks blondie if he did a good job defending his homeland, blondie says yes, and it's emotional... and meanwhile in Thunderbolt, when rookie teenagers pilots are sent to fight, they get instantly decimated. And Zeon literally amputates its pilot to turn him into a weapon. A least they don't demonize the Federation soldiers too much in this episode (the Federation are not the good guys anyway but you get my point, it's even worse when it's truly presented as black and white) by having them fight other rookies.
In that episode, they also introduce the guy in full Gestapo costume. And while they don't paint him as a sympathetic, he's not a monster either, he mainly just a... dick. With a weird leather fetish, judging by the way he repeatedly squeezes his glove. But he gets a "redemption" in the final battle by helping the remaining Zeon troops of A Baoa Qu escape. And it's a noble sacrifice, helping their comrades live to fight another day because the evil Federation soldiers were gonna slaughter them, even though they had surrendered. But in the end they all survive, they laugh, they embrace, the Zeon flag floats proudly... and again, there's nothing wrong with a story focusing on the antagonists' side, but that doesn't mean you have to adopt their point of view. You could do a movie about confederate soldiers and how the war sucked for them too, but it would still be weird if the movie ended with a shot of the confederate flag with triumphant music in the background.
By the way, quick aside, this was directed by Takashi Imanishi, who previously directed the second half of Stardust Memory. And yes, while Stardust Memory remains my favourite for now, I'll admit that towards the end, it has the same problems of glorifying Zeon and the noble sacrifice of its soldiers fighting a desperate battle against insurmountable odds. While they had just dropped another colony on earth.
And with the visuals, the plot and the themes out of the way, we're left with a trio of main characters that are... present. The captain is kinda charming, but overall they neither pull the show upwards or downwards. So yeah, I really can't say it's better than F91, so that is officially my least favourite Gundam thing I've seen. It's straight to the bottom of my ranking for this first season.
Yes. Everything I've said so far only applies to The Hidden One Year War and Apocalypse 0079.
Because y'all. Gravity Front... is so fucking good. It's unbelievable. As I said, the first season is dead last on my ranking, that is to say in 16th place. Gravity Front is in 5th. Above 00, Witch from Mercury, Thunderbolt, even 8th MS Team.
I know that for every piece of media I reviewed, I assumed that whomever was reading was already familiar with it. However, this is probably the nichest thing I've watched yet, and because the first season sucks, many people who tried it probably bounced off of it. So for once, I won't spoil and tell you to go watch Gravity Front. It's a major step-up, still hard on the eye but now good enough that you can actually relate to the characters and truly feel their emotions. And if the fight scenes were pretty good in the first season, now they're truly amazing. Dynamic, gripping, with great tactical twists that make them interesting.
Story wise, the jump in quality is equally astounding, if not more. Focusing on feddies already makes it less morally dubious (again, the Federation also sucks but they're not pretending otherwise here) and in this season, war is really ugly, and the gritty aesthetic now fits perfectly. No more "it's sad how this beautiful death machine was rejected" (there's a sliver of that in the third episode but it's pretty minor), in Gravity Front it's all "war sucks, and all of those deaths are meaningless". They really do relish in making them meaningless, especially right at the moment where the characters think they've found a form of victory or catharsis. Plus it's not cheap drama, they do a good job of making each episode narratively captivating with very limited time and new characters every time. I'll just tell you this: the second episode is a retelling of Moby Dick with a Zaku instead of a whale. If that doesn't pique your interest...
There's also a semi-supernatural element, which is... weird, and will probably turn many people off, but somehow I kinda love it. I don't even know why, maybe it's because it's left ambiguous enough to be a mix of hallucinations and poetic licence, it doesn't impact the story, it gives it more personality, and even reinforces the feeling of watching a tragedy. The doomed characters literally see the incarnation of their inevitable fate. However, the design of the shinigami is... why did she have to wear dominatrix boots?
A'ight, that's it for MS IGLOO. Skip the first six episodes, or maybe just watch the second one to get an idea of the rest of the season. Then watch Gravity Front because it slaps, even though it's depressing (but y'know, it's UC Gundam, that's kind of a given).
Next, Gundam Narrative. Shouldn't take long because I'll just be pointing at Unicorn and say "Yeah, it's most of that thing I didn't like". Bye!
