Junior Thesis
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some stuff I worked on for my junior thesis project earlier this year. Ill share the full finished comic later on but for now enjoy these character designs and such 🫶
the watercolor version of the cover looked too much like bradley james when that was like, not the point of the assignment, which is why the finished digital version looks so much different. I still prefer the original watercolor version but i tend to always favour my watercolor versions of things
In depth explanation below cut
the junior thesis assignment was the adapt a book into a six page comic and we could have creative freedom with certain things and the book only ever mentioned the color of guenever's hair and eyes, NOT her skin color or features and so I had my fun with her design. the ONLY description they give lancelot in the entire book is that hes ugly and beauty is subjective so i gave him "non traditional" features. In one of my original sketches for him, he was going to have crooked teeth, but unfortunately i do not draw teeth well LMAO. I wanted Arthur and Lancelot's designs to contrast each other as well. Arthur is shorter and stockier where Lance is taller and thinner, Arthur keeps his feelings quiet while Lance wears them on his chest, and then i wanted there to be the stark color difference too between them.
Morgause and Mordred were fun, but they both had a lot more descriptive descriptions in the book, so I didn't get as much creative control outside of their outfits. I assigned the Lot family the color blue and the Camelot cotizens red to try and contrast better throughout the story and it was kinda fun cause it made mordred look like an ice prince or something.
also despite gwen lance and arthur being around the same age at the point of my comic, i wanted to try and make arthur look the oldest, sort of visually show how much being king and his decisions has weighed on him, especially since the scene I adapted was pretty heavy.
also i did have a reference page for gwen but at some point it got deleted? so in this its just a fun drawing I did of her holding excalibur instead. I do also have a full reference drawing for exacalibur in my files that was useless because i never ended up drawing it in the comic LMAO
the last photo is the cornwall sisters, Elaine, Morgan and Morgause. With their designs i had fun trying to make them look related to each other, to Arthur and their parents but also try to not make them all have the same face. Elaine looks like her mother, Morgan looks like her father, Morgause looks like a mix of both (Uthers hair color but Ygraine's hair style, Uther's face but Ygraine's eye color) and Arthur looks like a perfect blend of both too. I sort of did the same with Mordred where I took features from both morgause and arthur to make him look related but like his own person. Ygraine and Uther are only in one panel so there's no proper ref for either of them.
This project was a five month process, six if you count writing the script to fit within a six page comic without losing any details from the book and creating my pitch for my professor (all of which was done over winter break)
The project took FOREVER and I definitely am not happy with the final result but its due to the fact i had frequent doctor visits and hospitalisations and wasnt able to work on it as much as I had wanted, PLUS i had an eight page comic for another class i worked on also over the same five months (and i was more focused on that one as it was my own original characters)4
regardless though, i do still like it, just wish it cane out better in the end lmao
will prolly post the full comic in a day or two :3

If anyone is still curious, by the way, I am the one who commissioned this artwork and I still absolutely love the choices that @kaereth made with it. I actually very much imagined Lancelot as agender and Rromani when I commissioned this artwork and I think Kaereth got that across perfectly when they did this artwork. Furthermore, I think it's also kind of fun that there's more than a little bit of Gliimmadora influence in their designs, with Lancella as Catra and Gwenhwyfar as Glimmer and Arthes as Adora. There's also some great touches like theiir shared blushes, Gwenhwyfar being short and chubby but still clearly the subject of deep romantic affection, and the combined brunette/redhead/blonde and butch/femme/futch dynamic going on with these three versions of the characters. It's just a really beautiful and well-done piece of art that I'm glad I got to see. Thank you, Kace. Thank you so very, very much.

⭐️ Brock and Guin
For Each  “⭐️” I Get, I'll Write A Headcannon About Our Muses.
⭐️ Brock has been putting the moves on Guin for a while, and she didn't instantly swoon for him like he's become so accustomed to. He found out from her friends that a big part of that was his reputation, and while he doesn't necessarily plan on changing his ways, he still wants a chance with her. He learned from their mutual friends that she planned on getting him something for his birthday, so before she could, he asked to take her out to drinks for his birthday instead so that she felt like she couldn't turn him down yet again.

On top of SatBK not being 1:1 with French Vulgate Arthuriana, I think the game has more decorum than to imply Lancelot will cuck Sonic. Plus, simple logic forbids it. If Sonic is Arthur, and Sonic left........... there is no king for Lancelot to cuck.
The French romances have some really fucked-up stuff in them, and although it is funny to think about said fucked-up stuff happening to colorful three-foot tall anthros, I don't think it should be taken this literally? Galahad's conception, for instance, would be considered rape by deception today.
In the French Vulgate, yes, the Battle of Camlan (in Welsh, it's spelled with one N) was largely the result of interpersonal strife. Agravaine and Mordred shoved Guinevere's adultery in Arthur's face, forcing him to punish her. Mordred further made power plays through treachery, coercion, and deceit, pitting Gawain and Lancelot against one another and lying about Lancelot and Arthur's deaths.
The narrative focus on chickens coming home to roost reflects the French romances' Christian notions of sin. Arthur tried to destroy the evidence of his incest, therefore it comes back to bite him in the ass much later on when Mordred snatches the throne. Guinevere pays for her adultery by being burned at the stake. So on and so forth.
However, Welsh sources are more concerned with Camlan's material causes, which may have reflected some version of a historical memory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just as volcano activity is speculated to have served as inspiration for the prophecy of Ragnarök, it could be inferred that the dramatic global climate change incurred by the massive volcanic eruption in 536 AD could have informed the cause of the Battle of Camlan according to the Welsh Triads.
Tumblr media
In another Triad, we hear how Mordred showed up at Arthur’s court in Celli Wig in Cornwall, ate all of Arthur’s food, drank all of his wine, and dragged Guienevere off her throne and beat her. Arthur repaied Mordred’s insult by visiting his court and similarly taking all the food and mead.
1.) The dates align. The Annales Cambriae give 537 AD as the year in which the battle occurred, whereas the volcanic eruption occurred in the previous year. An apocalyptic year's worth of famine and gloom (the sun was said to have an eerie, bluish glow) would have deeply impacted the ancient psyche, causing the conditions necessary for war. 2.) Plague often follows famine, which would also track with the Annales Cambriae's claim that "there was plague in Ireland and Britain" following "Arthur and Medraut fell."
3.) Devoid of context, eating all of the food in the king's court and subsequently repaying your enemy the same favor seem like cartoonish things to do... unless that was the only food you had left.

In one of the pages with revised dialogue, Guienevere told Aurora that she’s nothing more than a doll. Was she talking about current Aurora or the version of Aurora that met Lancelot?
And did she look different when she met Lancelot before she met him as Argus?
Does Argus remember her from before (when Aurora was recalling his words as ‘Lancelot’ while they are in London), or at least subconsciously find her familiar which is why she’s the only one he’s willing to stick with when he intended to leave the other princesses before?
Guinevere refers to the current Aurora, as there is no previous version that knew Argus. Aurora "met" a first Argus in a dream, but the second Argus from the tower has not shown any sign of remembering her at any point. The reasons why Aurora seems to know some of his memories are spoilers.

Will you be playing Blades 2?
I’m not sure. I haven't played any Choices books since Guienevere ended. I don't even have the app on my phone or iPad anymore. 🥴 I’ll probably re-install it when Cursed Heart 2 drops though.

Well, I finished Merlin and it was awesome. One of the few series that I would love to watch again and again. It’s funny and heartbreaking (at the end). It’s everything that I love in a movie or a show. Though I would’ve loved for Arthur to know better all the times Merlin saved his ass through magic.
