the first time i finished reading les misérables, i thought very spontaneously "oh, i wish it was little longer! i wish i could read more of it!" and like. no bitch you don't. this book is more than 1500 pages long in its original version. this book is the fucking bible. you read plenty and you don't need more.

The fun thing is that I read an article somewhere whose author was mad at hugo for going for a butch/femme dynamic with claude and albin (calling that conservative (!) bc it was practically heterosexuality (!!) or some such nonsense) and it ends up that they were real men! (and this was from a serious news paper iirc so they should have known)(that doesn’t exclude hugo getting creative with the characterizations of course)
