Been poking the PS3 more recently, playing some titles from a generation I never felt much connected to. Revisited Mirror's Edge after... probably over a decade? And while definitely not without its flaws and sore spots, it is sooo so fucking cool. Sometimes the collision does some wonky things that quite literally throw you off; combat encounters can be a repetitive slog of dying to a rain of bullets over and over again, trying to figure out how the hell to cut through them all; the animation of the cutscenes can feel a bit stilted and stiff, and whatever story that is present is rather light. But man, the raw sense of flow you can settle into when it all clicks... running against a wall and kicking off it to reach a ledge, vaulting up and dodging incoming fire and, hell, even clocking a fucko in the face and stealing their gun (when that actually works) to take out all their other shitfriends, just to chuck it to the side and dash away across a rooftop... god. I know the shaking and rolling first person cam ain't everyone's favorite-- understandable with motion sickness and all that-- but I love it all so much. When you land on the ground and tuck into a roll to break the fall, the whole fucking camera tumbles to follow suit. Really helps give weight to your actions and accentuates your carried momentum. It wouldn't be the same without it. And everything from the cutscenes to the environments to the music carry this through-line of sharp minimalism, stark yet vibrant. Very different than many of the games and experiences that were coming out at the time. idk, call me old or uninformed, but I feel like this sort of thing just doesn't happen anymore. At least, not in the AAA space. I dunno much about the follow-up, Catalyst, other than that its reception was... not super great. Perhaps I'll look into it at some point, but for now I wanna try my hand at beating the (in-game) speedrun times and finding all the hidden cases. Cleared the story in a day but I crave more lol

On 22nd March 1421, Franco-Scottish army. under the Earl of Buchan defeated English forces at Bauge in Anjou, France.

Not heard of it? That’s because the history we were taught in school was all anglicized, oh we did get a wee bit about the 100 year war, mainly Agincourt, because the English won that day, or possibly Crecy, another victory for them, Bauge and many other times the English were gubbed are ignored.

Ok you might be wondering why I say a Scottish army, historians all say that the majority of the troops were Scottish soldiers, aye there was a few Frenchmen fighting on “our” side, but this was very much a Scottish victory over an English army.

This all goes down as part of the Auld Alliance, which was signed in 1295 by King John Balliol and Philip IV of France. The Alliance was renewed periodically after that date and by the 1410s it was very much “in play” as Henry V of England initiated the third phase of the Hundred Years War, often known to historians as the Lancastrian War.

In 1418, it was the French Dauphin who called on his Scottish allies for assistance in his efforts to curtail Henry’s depredations after the great battle of Agincourt in 1415. It had to be the Dauphin, or Crown Prince, who sought help from Scotland because the French king, Charles VI, was already showing signs of the mental illness that would eventually see him nicknamed Charles the Mad.

The French aristocracy had split into two factions with many supporting the Duke of Burgundy in his aspirations to take the throne, while many others stayed loyal to the King and the House of Valois, known as the Armagnacs. Increasingly it was the teenaged Dauphin, the future Charles VII, who made all the major decisions for the Valois regime and, faced with the Burgundy alliance with Henry V and the surrender of many of his own forces, he sent for help from Scotland.

The complicating factor at the time was that King James I of Scotland was still a prisoner of the English, albeit that he was part of the royal household of Henry, whom he greatly admired, and he would actually fight with the English army against the French in France in 1420. In charge of Scotland was the Duke of Albany, Robert Stewart, who had become regent when James was first captured by the English in 1406 while en route to France.

There had been no large battles between the Scots and the English since the Battle of Homildon Hill, or Humbleton Hill, in 1402 won by the English, but with England preoccupied with France, Albany no doubt felt it safe to respond positively to Scotland’s oldest ally. By 1419, there was also peace of a sort along the border with England so the Scots could afford to send an army of around 6000 men including men at arms, spearman and archers to serve alongside the remaining French royal army.

Henry V’s of England’s brother, Thomas the Duke of Clarence led 10,000 men south towards the Loire. They set about besieging the castle at Bauge when the Scots were garrisoned, they made contact with them the day before Good Friday. A truce was reached, lasting until Monday, so that the combatants could properly observe the religious occasion of Easter.

The English lifted their siege and withdrew to nearby Beaufort, while the Scots camped at La Lude. However, early in the afternoon of Saturday Scottish scouts reported that the English had broken the truce and were advancing upon them hoping to take them by surprise. The Scots rallied hastily and battle was joined at a bridge which the Duke of Clarence, with banner unfurled for battle, sought to cross. A detachment of a few hundred men under Sir Robert Stewart of Ralston, reinforced by the retinue of Hugh Kennedy, held the bridge and prevented passage long enough for the Earl of Buchan to rally the rest of his army, whereupon they made a fighting retreat to the town where the English archers would be ineffective.

Both armies now joined in a bitter melee that lasted until nightfall. During this time Sir John Carmichael of Douglasdale broke his lance unhorsing the Duke of Clarence; since that day the Carmichael coat of arms displays an armoured hand holding aloft a broken lance in commemoration of the victory. Once on the ground, the Duke was killed by Sir Alexander Buchanan. The English dead included the Lord Roos, Sir John Grey and Gilbert de Umfraville, whose death directly led to the extinction of the male line of that illustrious family, well known to the Scots since the Wars of Independence. The Earl of Somerset and his brother were captured by Laurence Vernon (later elevated to the rank of knight for his conduct), the Earl of Huntingdon was captured by Sir John Sibbald, and Lord Fitz Walter was taken by Henry Cunningham.

On hearing of the Scottish victory, Pope Martin V passed comment by reiterating a common mediaeval saying, that the Scots are well-known as an antidote to the English.

Alright, we're playing HeartGold!! Fair warning: I know nothing about this game other than it's a Pokemon game lol

I only watch Faye's parts, not the entire thing, unless the story keeps my attention. but considering they are very soap and very straight, I get a little bored with the other stories in the show.😅

when Faye's role is big though (Like Patty from Prik Gub Klur) then I end up watching most of the show. that show had an interesting plot too, and Patty is my fav of all Faye's roles in ch7.

but I gotta say Faye's acting was worth it she played those roles with her entire body and it shows.

13. How do they deal with pain (physical or emotional)? Oh Mantis can take one hell of a beating, physically. She may stand at a breathtakingly steep... 152cm tall (on her toes), but true to her real life animal counterpart (the mantis shrimp!), she packs one hell of a punch. Doesn't bruise easily. The real hard hits will still get through to her though. Tries to act all tough but you can clearly see through the act. "Yeah, I'm fine!! ow fuck shit ouch Never felt better!! >:D" Emotional pain... similar response. Seems fairly resilient, but she's not very good at hiding it when something's wrong. Either she'll deny it, or downplay its effects, only admitting with a strong enough confrontation, or an emotional pain too great to bear. Takes a lot to break her. Urchin on the other hand... ho boy. So physical pain. Fun fact, Urchin is ✨ chronically ill! ✨ Just imagine like, hundreds of thousands of little spines all over your body that you can retract at will. Now imagine you don't have much direct control over them, and instead seem to be a more reactionary response of the automatic nervous system-- at least to the best of your knowledge. Now imagine all those little spines are ever so slightly misaligned with where they're supposed to come out! Congratulations, u experience chronic debilitating pain!! So yeah, given the magnitude and agonizing breadth to which their illness pans out, Urchin has some incredible fuckin' pain tolerance. Winces, deals with it in the ways they've learned how to over the years, though it ultimately results in them not getting around much. Mostly solitude, sedentary. Not out of choice, of course. They're afraid of getting too close to anyone else, physically or emotionally, and accidentally harming them with their own stupid sickly spines. Additional pain-- that is, from outside the body-- tends to throw them off kilter, upset the ANS, and resultingly make the internal pain worse. Fun! As for emotional pain... ouhhf... let's just say Urchin has a lot of baggage, and lots of alone time to ruminate on it all :3c 19. How do they connect with the people around them? Love language, how they offer comfort, etc.

Mantis (similarly to Cuttle) loves meeting new folks, but is probably not quiiite as charismatic. Her love language is typically intense/loud, but it can take more subtle forms as well. For example, Shrimps loves challenging those she loves, both in friendly competition and in their own assumptions, in the interest of spurring some sort of growth or new perspective. She will (lightly (for a mantis shrimp)) punch ur shoulder and u will like it. Contrast that with the little things... like, okay, let's not mince words here: Mantis can be absolutely oblivious. Many things tend to sail clean over her head. No thoughts, head empty. However! She will notice little things about you. Your shuffles and posture adjustments. The way you fidget with certain objects. The one or two particular photos or memorabilia tacked to your bedroom wall. Small things that often draw your attention or otherwise indicate where your mind might be at. And often she'll make lil gestures that demonstrate such fine observations. Like "Hey Urchin, I notice you kinda nervously tap your keyboard when you're at your desk, so here's a matching keycap that i affixed to a lil box, so you have something to keep in your pocket when you're elsewhere!" I wonder how she got so selectively observan- autism its definitely the autism On the other hand, Urchin... has an extremely difficult time figuring out just how to connect with those around them. Can I hide in my room? No, we're out of the apartment. Can I run off to some other room where I can close a door, or get some space to myself? No, s-so I really have to stand here around these other people? ...shit. Um. How do interact. Is my presence bothering them. What if I say something rude or insensitive. What if they bring up something upsetting or triggering. How do I get out of here. Fuck. It's no secret that Urchin does not hold themselves in very high regard, so how is it that someone else could love them? They must be manipulating someone in order for them to express such feelings... right? Throughout their life, their presence has ranged from passive lack-of-existence to "burden". They do not know how to properly express love. They do not know how to give comfort. They don't know how to interact with anyone without believing they are causing harm in some way. So how the hell do they communicate with another person when they're slapped in the same room together? Simple: avoidance, social awkwardness, and constant self-doubt. Hope this helps!! :3c

I watched another of Faye's older roles (only her parts)

and yet another "bitch" role of hers is not exactly clear evil

this time is Patty from Prik Gub Klur

Patty is a young woman, who is in a relationship with an older man the age of her mother or so. she's is as old as this man's children.

from her behaviour, her disgust, and how his daughter hates her, it is clear as day that she's not there out of love, but for the money.

we get flashbacks from a young guy, who was her boyfriend prior to her current situation. it turns out that guy is the son of the man she's dating.

the son is a really good guy, he loved her, and everything, and he is also the only man she has true love for.

the thing is that her mother, is a gambler, and forces her to break up with her young guy, and go play with the older man's feelings. the older man of course falls head over heels for her, she's Faye's character she's drop dead gorgeous. but suddenly he gets a stroke, and she has to nurse him. which she hates.

she ends up having an affair with a Uni student, way younger than her. that kid is the brother of the main evil guy, and his relationship with patty drives the plot to where the evil guy wants it to go.

she even asks the young guy to get her some drug that would make her husband dead without a trace

long story short, the young guy, goes to find Patty, at her house, old husband over hears that she's having an affair with him, he goes to grab the young guy and he falls from the stairs and dies.

Patty tells the young guy to leave, and she tells the police it was an accident, and there were no evidence of fighting so the case was closed for the time being.

Patty still loves the son though, the son is in love with another woman so he rejects her a lot.

Patty hired some thugs to kidnapped the other woman, but they failed to harm her so that ended there.

at this point both the son and the daughter of her late husband suspect her that she had an affair and that she cause his death, but they have no evidence to tie her.

the evil brother though who saw picture of her and his little brother, threatens her that he will tell everyone unless she sells him her husband's business.

by the end the evil brother kills his young brother, but the guy has left a video exposing all the crimes committed.

when the police come to arrest her as a conspirator of her husband's death. her mom disowns her and calls her a whore as if it wasn't her forcing her to do everything.

she ends up in prison, and from one last scene we have with her, the son she loved, visits her. she has admitted her wrong doings, asks for forgiveness, and even says that if she could turn back time she wouldn't have done all those things. she admits of hurting him with breaking up with him even though he loved her, she admits that her greediness caused him even more pain because his dad died because of her. overall she's truly remorseful.

it is another case of a good person forced into situations that coarse them to do bad things.

the fact that her mom called her a whore and disowned her, and never visited her at prison, speaks volumes.

FAYE's acting though, I was crying buckets with the last scene.
