We meet Marina after she has already lost her ship and crew, so we don't see them, but in her in-game character description (I can send it, if you want) says that it's her motivation for fighting against the Invaders (main bad guy). She also has a rival, a mercenary named Orca (it's more like Orca is obsessed with her to be honest), she's the one that took Marina's eye. Marina took her arm in the same fight.

Under the opulent chandeliers of one of Earth's most exclusive dining establisments, members of Blue-Team and Silver-Team gathered at a high-end restaurant, one that catered to the elite. Yet tonight, it played host to Earth's mightiest defenders. John-117, having secured their reservation, was no stranger to the perks of his status within the UNSC. His commendations and heroic deeds had not only earned him respect but also a considerable amount of wealth, which he seldom flaunted but tonight decided to share with his comrades. The dining table was a battleground of culinary delights, yet the approach to the feast laid bare the contrasts among Earth's finest. The Spartan men, including John, Vannak-134, and Fred-104, dissected their meals with the same precision they applied to enemy fortifications. Each bite was calculated, a nod to their ingrained discipline, their plates curated to fuel their bodies with exacting efficiency.Opposite this display of restraint, the Spartan women—Kelly-087, Linda-058, and Kai-125—embarked on a culinary offensive that would leave the chefs in awe and the cutlery trembling. Their plates were heaped with delicacies, each morsel disappearing as if into the void of slip-space, only to be replaced by more.Kelly, with a glint of mischief in her eyes, glanced at John. "You weren't kidding about this place," she said, her voice a vibrant echo in the hush of luxury. "The food's fantastic. Who knew the hero of humanity had such a taste for the finer things?" Kai, for her part, paused just long enough to cast a challenging look around the table, her expression daring anyone to comment. When no one did, she dove back into her meal with renewed vigor, a whirlwind of culinary devastation that defied the serene elegance of their surroundings. Vannak-134 watched the scene unfold with an expression of bemused admiration. "I'm startin' to think there's some competition here," he observed, his voice a low murmur intended for Fred's ears alone. Fred chuckled softly. "If there is, I'm content to concede victory to them. This ain't a fight we're able to win." His gaze lingered on the women, his amusement tinged with a hint of pride. Their conversation meandered through tales of past exploits and shared challenges, the camaraderie palpable in the air around them. For a brief interlude, they were not the galaxy's guardians but simply friends, reveling in the joy of each other's company. As the evening drew to a close, John's gaze swept over his team, a sense of contentment settling over him. Rising from their seats, they stepped back into the night, the memory of the evening a light against the darkness of their relentless crusade. But for those few hours, they had been unconquerable in a different arena, champions of camaraderie and the simple, profound joy of breaking bread together.

Bit of a slow week, mainly re-reading things and changing words and dialogues, and also just getting wrapped up in TOO MANY new ideas, and have also become obsessed with cooking again lol

Been having fun working on the lil bittersweet Niko/Tatjana piece/chapter(??) and mainly working on putting together a playlist, which works great for Music Monday! :D So as tradition, my indecisive ass will plop a few songs I've been listening to while writing this chapter(?) since I can never choose just one!

"Where is Ljubica?" he inquired amid the gentle hum of boiling water. Tatjana peered at the small clock nestled among memories before letting out a tender laugh: "The nights young, she could be anywhere." She sighed deeply: "She says it calms her, biking around." She returned bearing steaming tea and retrieved a cigarette from the rickety table beside her.

"Is she always out in the city?" Niko asked as he gazed out through rain-streaked windowpanes; seeds of worry beginning to grow. "Out on that bicycle? Even in this weather?" He sought her reasonings amid the storm.

Wearily, Tatjana shrugged. "It's been hard for her lately, I don't always understand what goes on in her head." she confessed, failing to ignite her cigarette, the flame of life long extinguished. In frustration, she flung the lighter to the floor while cascading blonde hair shrouded a ghostly visage mourning the loss of what once was. The weight of longing settled over them both; tracing tender aches and sorrows that, like rain-laden clouds, held within them the potential to nourish in time.

From the depths of Tatjana's introspective chasm, the forsaken cigarette found solace upon her lips – Niko, the tender guardian, bending to her side, taming her locks, and igniting her reprieve with his Zippo's flame. A whispered "I'm sorry." echoed through chambers of remorse and longing for a time that once was. Drawing from those hallowed memories, he claimed his own smoky respite and joined her at the border of reverie.

Her touch – a whisper of connection against Niko's hardened hand – beckoned him to share in their silent symphony. "Niko," she breathed between puffs of clouded smoke, "Eventually you need to stop apologizing to me." Her thumb traced canyons of scars and battles won in the tales their hands told. The quiet hung heavy around them, masking an unyielding bond in tension's weighted grasp.

"I've ruined you," Niko confessed, eyes raw with unshed tears, "It’s my fault Dragan died, I failed to keep you safe, sent you and Ljubica across the world alone" As crystalline pain threatened to overflow from Tatjana's eyes, she spoke his name, but he pressed onwards: "I’m empty."

"Nikola," Her firm tone belied the tenderness beneath. "You can't keep doing this to me." Fingers tapped ash to oblivion whilst another breath drew a deep smokey inhale.

As Niko gazed upon her fractured countenance from beneath shame-streaked lashes. "Though I love you," she trembled before the bittersweet tide threatening to overtake her voice, "I cannot fix everything that is wrong with you, in your soul."

Got mine a day late this week due to a traffic jam on the highway I take to my LCS yesterday, but worth the wait in the end.

Proctor Valley Road #2: So after trying some naturalism on for size with the first issue Morrison just went fuck it and went back to writing dialogue the way they always write dialogue, huh? Not a complaint other than being a bit jarring, it was just striking. Anyway it’s still Morrison having a hoot and Franquiz is still an outstanding talent I’m glad I’m finally being properly introduced to, so this is still good.

Home #1: Serious disappointment. I was hoping ‘detained asylum seekers mixed with superpowers’ would be a narrative handled with care that’d potentially tap into something interesting, but aside from the horror that inevitably comes from tapping into this subject matter with any degree of authenticity this feels really amateurish top to bottom. Even Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s lettering feels notably weaker than usual.

Home Sick Pilots #5: This is wholly a ‘I vibe with it but have no idea what’s going on or who any of these people are anymore’ book at this point, think I’ll be switching to trades.

The Picture of Everything Else #3: I still have the last story in Paper Menagerie to get to, but after that I’m finally sitting down and rereading The Picture of Dorian Gray so that I can fully appreciate this book, because this is simply spectacular work.

Rorschach #7: Huh. Well, so far I’m still largely continuing to enjoy it, though this isn’t doing anything at all to alleviate the accusations of poor taste that have hung over it since the first issue.

Wonder Woman #771: Continuing to be a pleasant surprise, and I’m glad we’ll be getting back to Olympian stuff in July so we can see how this team handles more traditional Wonder Woman elements - I suspect that’ll be when we’ll be able to fully tell how well this is going to hold up for the long haul.

Superman #30: A really good start to the run proper! While it didn’t go and outright blow me away - with the exception of the double-pager of Clark and Jon flying through space, which packed more emotion into their relationship than the entirety of the Rebirth era - there’s a density of concept and storytelling here that’s far too rare for modern superhero storytelling in general and especially for the mainline Superman titles. You’ve got space adventure and a giant monster and alien mythology and courtly drama and family stuff, and while it’s a bit weird seeing him work with the main cast now that I permanently associate him with the House of El cast, Godlewski is equally adept at every angle of that visually. The Tales of Metropolis backup’s a letdown, but in spite of that I think we’re in for a really good time. Looking forward to the other end in Action in a couple weeks.

The Joker #2: I guess this issue was technically mostly table-setting, but it sure didn’t play like it and I continue to be shocked this is working as well as it is - even Joker’s actual scene is as close as he’s come to being amusing in a (non-Tom King) regular Batman comic in the last decade; my only real complaint is the inevitable awkwardness of trying to clean up some continuity leftovers from the last Batgirl book, and that’s only so much Tynion’s fault. The Punchline backup isn’t as impressive, but at least now we’ve got Orca the Whale Woman in the mix, and that can’t do help but improve things.

Also I want someone to say “but Jim, you can’t kill the Joker...or else the toxin in his heart will turn YOU into the NEW Joker!”

Batman: Urban Legends #2: Wish Zdarsky hadn’t talked about that one scene on War Rocket Ajax, because that was one of the best Batman moments in a good long while. Good good shit. The backup stories all perfectly worth reading too, but the lead’s the lead and it definitely got us closer to what you basically want out of this team handling these characters.

Daredevil #29: This is probably about as ‘classic’ as this run has felt thus far, but this is the best possible version of that so it’s hardly a complaint. And fascinated to see what Elektra’s up to.

Spider-Man: Spider’s Shadow #1: Oh I am so very in for this horror show.

Non-Stop Spider-Man #2: Ehhh, the storytelling is still on-point but it doesn’t feel like there’s much of anything under the hood here. Maybe I’ll check it out of the library sometime but I don’t think I’m onboard for it as an ongoing.

Power Pack #5: A lovely end to a lovely mini.

Iron Man #8: Solid but frankly I’m borderline on dropping this if only because I’m more than ready to see what this has in mind once it gets past the Korvac of it all. If Cantwell ever does a Frog Man book though I’m there through thick and thin.

Guardians of the Galaxy #13: Suffers badly from being an artistic transition from Juann Cabal to nearly anyone who isn’t Juann Cabal, but Juan Frigeri does perfectly fine for himself and Ewing’s firing on all cylinders putting over the new concept and tone as this converts for the time being to something closer to a straight-take superhero book. And those last few pages? Gold standard.

More on Water Dragons (Part 1)

 It is true that the Water dragons can cause droughts or floods, but it is their wit and sharp tongues that do the most damage when they are furious.

🌊 Water dragons are seen as the most playful and easy going out of the dragons because of the knowledge that sometimes it’s easier, even best, to go with the current than to fight it. However this doesn’t mean that they are not stubborn in their own way or without a fighting spirit. In fact, Water Dragons, especially the Sea Dragons, are said to be one of the most feared out of the elementals because of how devastating they can be when angered not unlike their cousins, the Magma Dragons; often in tandem with the Weather Dragons specifically the Rain and Storm Dragons. Usually though, water dragons are a bit calmer and more often level headed than most; it is they who give sound advice as they tend to see all of the angles as well as being a bit more creative when it comes to decision making.

🌊 There are two-three families of the water dragons, ranging from the following:  

Freshies (Freshwater):

🌊 River Dragons-Think of the Amazon River Dolphins or the Ganges Dolphins. They are not particularly colorful but they make sure to blend in. They are the ones who come into contact with humans as much as the Coral Reef Dragons.

🌊 Lake Dragons-Nesse is the most well-known type of the Lake Dragons. They are very clannish and at times ready to shed blood all for a good time.

🌊 Spring Dragons-Similar to Lake Dragons only these guys are a bit more standoffish and territorial though they are willing to let humans enter so long as they don’t trash their home. It would seem that only the Hot Spring Dragons are friendlier and inviting to humans, the males especially.

Brackies (Brackish Water):

🌊 Mangrove Dragons-Darker brown and green in scales and manes, Mangrove Dragons are quite dull to look at but they are the guardians of the Freshies and keeper of the Salties. Out of all of the water dragons, they are seen as living proof of balance. While gruff, they are playful and enjoy having fun whilst aware of the need to be serious when the time calls. They are wary of humans and often tend to be believed as the cousins of the coral reef dragons.

🌊 Swamp Dragons-Seen as the venomous species of the Water Dragons, Swamp Dragons are darker in color and are told in stories as being the companion of evil humans and dark magic. They are believed to the closer to the First Ones other than the Deep Sea Dragons, maybe even worshiping them along with Chang’e.

Salties (Sea Dragons):

Sea Dragons are well known for creating the undertows and destroying ships. They and the majority of the River Dragons often refer to their families as pods or colonies, thus it is usually not one sea dragon attacking ships but a whole pod. The tale Moby Dick was that of an albino sea dragon who was as large as a sperm whale.

🌊 Coral Reef Dragons

Very colorful, blend in with reefs along coastal waters and are smaller than most of the Sea Dragons. They are usually very playful and more likely to interact with humans. Sometimes they have venomous spines for protection, or venom glands not unlike the sea snakes and Komodo Dragons.

🌊 Open Ocean Dragons

Basically what their name suggests, often being dark on top and light underneath to blend in. They live out in the open ocean, migrating to and from nurseries, hunting grounds, and are even what the orcas fear. They are the ones most at risk of being pulled into the Primal Ones’ clutches as they will dive deep like the sperm whales to avoid danger and detection from humans and their submarines; this is however becoming more and more difficult.

🌊 Deep Sea Dragons

Similar to the sirens and mermaids of human lore, but with more of the mystery of their world, Deep Sea Dragons are seen as the First Ones’ minions thus they are avoided at all costs, if possible. Even the mighty emperors and kings will not mess with them and have killed them out of fear that they will be lured into service of the First Ones.
