Hi! For a project in mz school were doingf an activity where we make a utopia. i wanted mine to be inspired by your blog and stuff like accessibility, solar engery, things like that. any things you could give me for ideas?
I cannot emphasize enough how absolutely honored I am that you're looking to my blog for inspiration on this project! I hope I can be helpful!
If you want a fantastic wellspring of cool imagery and inspiration, check out the @solarpunkaestheticweek blog! It was an event held over the summer, and a lot of people participated and did art for it! Like this one that I really love! There's also lots of talk about fashion, architecture, and general aesthetic inspiration too! The queue is also continually running with other cool stuff the other mods and I find! We've also got a pinterest board you can rifle through for more inspo! IDK when this project is due, but we're planning to host another event for the Winter Solstice, which should bring out another burst of cool stuff to be inspired by!
Other cool things that could be fun for a utopia... I go on a bit of a ramble below!
The Dear Alice animation is a great source of inspiration, honestly! The imagery in this video are vivid!
Community fridges, little free pantries, little free libraries, and the like are also super fun for a utopia! Here's a pinterest board I made while I was working on my solarpowered fridge concept project this summer!
You could always go for fun shaped and fun-colored solar panels! I've seen talk of solar panels made to look like terra cotta roof tiles, and of colorful solar glass, so either one of these could be cool to draw inspiration from! The imagery of a stained glass window but its all solar voltaic is... prominent, in my head. While I was rifling through my blog, I found another post about more people doing this (or at least something similar)!
I've been in love with this concept art of fish-shaped wind turbines for the longest while! Clean energy can be clean and fun!
Regarding accessibility--I won't claim its something I know a lot about, but I did go on a bit of a ramble about it at the behest of another asker once. Long and the short of it, I'd definitely encourage looking into talks about walkable cities and accessible cities, see what some other bloggers who are More Knowledgeable Than Me have to say about it! Here's another post I've reblogged about accessibility and solarpunk!
It could be fun to imagine how current structures in cities could be reused in a more solarpunk society! I did this a bit earlier with big parking garages, and the replies and reblogs also have some interesting ideas too!
I guess if you were to ask me what I'd like to see in an imagining of a solarpunk future/more utopian kind of vibe... I'd imagine tight-knit communities, clean energy, expansive transit systems and bike accessibility, large paths for traveling by foot, lots of gardens and greenhouses, big sunny windows, bright colors in buildings and fashion, lots of reuse of clothing and visible mending and the like, personalization, and Good Vibes. There's probably a lot more detail and specifics one would need to go to when it comes to making one, but when I think of Solarpunk those tend to be some of the first things that come to mind.
Aaaand here's a few solarpunk blogs I tend to look to for inspiration, if that's helpful to you at all!
I hope this helps! If anyone else happens across this post and wants to chime in, feel free!

for the D&D meme: 5. Favorite NPC. 9. Your favorite thing about D&D. 21. Have you ever regretted something your character has done? 22. What color was your first dragon?
5) Favorite NPCGosh there are a lot of good ones!! From Underdark I love Borby so much, and Shumsha!! And Barl Meatbane! And Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch! And I don’t know if we got a name but I also thought that girl from Josie’s place who was a cleric of a goddess of adventure who just gave me a real Tracer vibe... I thought she was cool! And Josephine too! And Xalatan obviously. From C&G there’s also a lot of really good ones I just love them all! Klyve and Father Danbrook, and Dastron if he still counts, and Emilio Pinweather! And the Weaver! And Lacrimosa! And Hope! And look I know I already said Klyve but also... like... Klyve. And from Titan’s Hand and like whatever Orrin’s new game is called... Obviously Marty. I’m sorry I accidentally insulted his mechanical daughter >’:
9) Your favorite thing about D&DI mean I love the roleplay obviously. I think my favorite thing is getting to tell a really cool awesome story with all your friends!! I think the story is always the best part!! And sometimes the real story is the friends we made along the way!!21)Have you ever regretted something your character has done?Early Clyde, before I actually gave him a real backstory because I’m dumb, was just real regrettable over all. Can we just retcon all of early Clyde? Like he used to be a blithely ignorant Jehovah's witness for foxes? Let’s not.22) What color was your first dragon?I feel like there might have been some kind of dragonling at some point but Zaran is the first dragon I remember and he’s purple!! And he’s also my pen pal and I forgot to mention him among my favorite NPCs but I love him too!! I should see how he’s doing...

gryphonrampant replied to your post “--// ...Why are Turian and Angaran scars pink? What substance in their...”
I actually addressed this for angara in my fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/17201195/chapters/40697576 “I wonder why they scar violet, when most of their tissues are blue.” “There’s a layer of tissue in the skin that regenerates poorly,” Lexi answered. “Angaran skin, you might have noticed, has a pearly, reflective quality in areas with limited pigmentation. The lowest level of the dermis, below the layer of photovoltaic cells, is reflective, to allow the photovoltaic layer another chance to absorb light energy. It is similar in concept, if not composition, to the reflective membrane in the eyes of some species, including common Earth domestics. Trauma interrupts the lattice structure, causing the discolored scars.”

gryphonrampant replied to your post “ok now that ive finished playing mass effect andromeda (again) i have...”
No DLC or additional patches has been confirmed. The only confirmed additional content for Andromeda is the third tie-in novel coming out next week. Bioware has confirmed there will be more Mass Effect games, but has not specified if they will be continuing Ryder's story or going elsewhere.
omg ok that is some Good News tbh like i love love love love love me:a and ryder and all that and i would physically die for any more games w this universe but i was also really worried that they would just give up on the mass effect franchise entirely so im super super glad that they’re not doing that so i am so relieved

How do Angara hear? Do they have hearing like humans, or do they hear vibrations...? I'm not sure how hearing works without external ear canals.
--Awesome question Anon, it sent me down a happy research rabbit hole and discussions with @gryphonrampant and @vocifersaurus.
Angara hear well both in air and underwater. The curves of the jinesh (the folds of flesh around their head and neck) function similar to our outer ear by collecting sound, especially in air. Oil filled organs within their jinesh focus and transmit the sound waves to the otolith bones, which vibrate.
Humans and other mammals have otoliths as well as the larger bones of the ear, but so do fishes - and they’re often quite big in large fish that hear well. Cetaceans have an auditory structure called the melon that is also filled with lipids (oils), and the air-filled swim bladder of a fish is also used to amplify hearing, which form the basis of the science behind this idea. In both cases, the difference in density between the organ and the surrounding environment increase the animal’s sensitivity to what amplitude and frequency of sound waves can be detected by their auditory system.
Many sensory organs are found within the large, curved jinesh of an angara. This includes the taon for generating bioelectricity, which is located within and beneath the two knobby protrusions that end the jinesh on an angara’s chest. The jollon is the primary auditory organ, filled with adipose tissue composed of low-density triglycerides and wax compounds. It is located in the largest curve of the jinesh, along each side of the head. The inner core of the jollon has a higher wax content than the outer parts and conducts sound slower. This gradient refracts sound and focuses it like a lens. Because this organ is both denser than air and less dense than water, the differential functions in both environments.
Angaran hearing is good - better than humans and asari, especially underwater - but with lower sensitivity than turian or elcor hearing. One reason why is the amplification of sound by the combined jollon and the folds of the jinesh, which function to collect sound waves similarly to the outer ear, or pinna, of humans and many other animals. The uppermost folds which touch the top of the head are the most important, and most directly connected to the jollon. Damage to this tissue, such as the deep scar carried by Jaal ama Darav, compromises the angara’s hearing on that side. (This last idea is directly from the awesome @gryphonrampant)
jollon - n - hearing, the ability to detect sounds; the oil-filled auditory organ in the upper part of an angara's jinesh
jollor, jollo, jollot, jollom - v - to hear, to listen
jedd - n - sound
jedder - v - to make a sound
ohmiyn - n - voice
ohmje - n - music
ohmjeddoor - v - to make music
ohmodd - n - a thing that was said, a quote
ohmor; ohmo, ohmot, ohmom - v - to speak, to say, to talk
wavalo - n - gills or similar structures for breathing in water; lit. swimming breath
wavooan - n, adj - fish, swimmer; generally used for any swimming organism
ialhatal - n - lungs lung, breathing sphere; angara have a singular lung that is spherical in addition to the gills in the jinesh; lit. breath globe/sphere
ialo - n, adj - breath or breathing; derived from the sounds we make to speak - like the word "ohm"
taon - n - the organ within the jinesh of an angara which generates bioelectricity

I was tagged by @tametsi-qq 💝
RULES: Tag 9 people you’d like to know better. I'm tagging @tarysande, @gryphonrampant, @unpretty, @gallusrostromegalus, @cozycryptidcorner, @bomberqueen17, @pixie-unger, @theravenofwynter, @smitethepatriarchy If I haven't tagged you, please feel welcome to do this tag as well!
Fav Colour: This is a tough one. I'm really fond of any jewel tones, so darker blues, royal purple, emerald green, ruby red, turmeric yellow, etc.
Currently reading: I'm in the middle of studying for the LSAT, so I'm not too keen on doing more reading afterwards. However, I semi-recently finished "A Good Time to Be Born" by Perri Klass. It's about how the medical advances and better sanitation measures in the past couple centuries have made a great difference in the health of children (it's US/CA/UK focused). I picked it up because my mom is against vaccines and I'm trying to find materials that will hopefully help her take a broader view on the matter.
Last movie: My partner and I tend to put on silly junk movies to watch while eating dinner. The one we're watching at the moment is Zoolander. I'd forgotten how ridiculous it is, but some of the jokes have definitely not aged well.
Last series: I tend to not watch many series because I know if it's good I will binge it and that messes up my sleep schedule and study schedule. The last thing I watched completely was Lucifer back in April of 2020. I did try to watch The Untamed more recently, but I couldn't make it past the first episode due to the high cringe factor. I couldn't take it seriously.
Sweet, spicy, savoury: I love chocolate, so definitely a sweet fan, but savoury is also so good! My spice tolerance is about medium-low.
Craving: There's this bougie steakhouse nearby that makes an amazing burger with a side of beef-fat fries. I've only had it twice in my life, but it is amazing. There's also this cute little bakery cafe that's family owned that makes this amazing chocolate hazelnut cheesecake. It is so rich and velvety.
Tea or coffee: I never picked up drinking coffee, so tea for me. I almost always have a green tea in the morning and then herbal teas during the day. My favs are blueberry lavender and a herbal chai.
Currently working on: As mentioned previously, I am in the midst of studying for the LSAT, which takes up the bulk of my mental space. However, I am working on maintaining my competency level in French by doing some language exercises and I'm trying to psych myself up to work on my Spanish (I took two years in high school but I've long forgotten the bulk of what I learned).
Also things I need to start on: I should clean out my closet. There's a lot of clothes that I haven't worn in a while or no longer fit. My dad may also be visiting soon-ish, so I also should find some activities to do together while he's here. And lastly, things that I don't want to do but need to do include completing my LSAC application. I need to wrangle the rest of my references and submit a writing sample.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's answers! 😊
