psych notes

haha idk how many people are interested, but these are just the notes i took today!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
neurons
cells of the nervous system that receive and spend electrochemical info
communicate from the brain through the body
billions of them
sensory neurons send messages to the CNS motor neurons send messages to muscles and glands interneurons relay messages between nerve cells, especially in the brain and spinal cord

systems
cell body (soma)
information goes into here - give enough stimulation, it will pass the message on to the next axon
myelin sheath
fatty insulation that protects the axon to allow impulses to travel faster (made of glial cells or glia)
axon
carries information away from the cell body
dendrites
neurons branching extensions with receptor sites. like antennas, receive and transmit to the cell body

how neurons communicate
synapse
the junction between two neurons (axon-to-dendrite) or between a neuron and a muscle. the tiny gap at this junction is the synaptic gap or flect
neurotransmitters
chemical messengers are released by terminal buttons that relay messages across synapses (gaps between nerves)

like i said, idk how interesting this is to you guys but i just wanted to add to my 'database' since i'm very interested in anatomy!!

my errors
correlation -> i need to work on questions that ask to identify what type of method used.
more correlation... -> positive, negative, and no correlation graphs... all that stuff
literally all my mistakes had to do with correlation.

my studying
i only started studying six days before the test for about one hr/day. two days before the test i made my flashcards for all 60 terms (never do this 😭).
good things:
lots of practice problems ->this is probably the best method for studying anything because you get used to what the testing environment is going to be like.
youtube videos -> crash course and mr. sinn were both a great help for reviewing topics
textbook reading -> also huge factor. before and after class i would skim the textbook to get an understanding on what i learned + to pick up extra things that my teacher might have missed.

extra
my classmates actually all got a lower grade than me, getting Bs and Cs even so it's definitely motivating that the small rigorous amount of studying i did let me get a higher grade than most.
also keeping in mind this is my first test in this class. i have the whole year to analyze what i did right and what I did wrong to improve so i can do better in the next quiz <33

hobbies
piano
I've basically been playing piano my entire life. it's such a great outlet for stress and low-key a good workout (especially if you're playing rachmaninoff or beethoven)
art
admittedly, i don't do as much art anymore because of burnout that kinda started sophomore year, but i hope to get back into it. i do love painting and doodling, tho
sewing
because i thrift, a lot of my clothes were too baggy so i decided to pick up sewing. it's fun when i want to make my own designs as well <3

my studyblr
why did I make a studyblr?
accountability -> having this blog will remind me to make posts, and hopefully you all will keep me accountable
motivation -> owning a cutesy little blog will motivate me and keep me in my 'honeymoon' period of studying
community -> the idea of having a community to be apart of is such a key motivator. having a blog is such a great way to reach out to others and if having this blog will help motivate others as well to achieve academically, then sign me up
what to expect:
you'll see me posting about study tips that work for me, as well as review methods, resources, and other academic related content. i love aesthetic things so maybe i'll (attempt) to post some aesthetic studyspo... to help myself understand concepts, I'll be summarizing ideas and using this blog as a 'database' for my classes like AP chem and psych.
