To Tokyo by public transport, Day 11 - Desert Bus

Another day. After an wonderful night I took another taxi up to the central bus station. You could just take the tram as well but ... I was too afraid to miss something.

Getting an ticket for this bus ride was not easy. In the end the page tutu.ru was able to do the job and accept western payment methods. I was not really sure if I had an valid ticket (25€). But lets find out!

The Station

The central Bus Station Nord is an old Soviet building with some makeover, plenty of shops inside and around of it, and an ugly security layer that got added in the last years. So if you want to go to the bus stations itself you need to do the whole Airport security thing. With this Russia tries to secure the inner regional borders.

I had no issues with that. In front of the Station many people will ask you to carry packages for them in a bus. Needless to say that I was not crazy enough to try that.

The bus then arrived 30 minutes early. The usual small Bus thing. This time an Volvo. The driving would later turn out as 'okay' since we never had any cliffs beside us and aaloot of free sign ahead.

An funny thing about the security was, that just 5 minutes after leaving the secured area, we just had a stop on the Mal behind the station to pick up some other people. Well....

Desert Journey

The whole journey was pleasant but long. After leaving the south Russian region you will see the Islamic focused side of Russia with many big buildings in the cities as well as various people here and there. I mean, I was never close to this big buildings. But my worldwide experience was that this prestige Buildings are empty most of the time. I wish I could had spend more time in Grosny.

But soon after Grosny the landscape goes down to desert alike states. And its getting ... kind of boring. At least internet works most of the time which is again amazing compared to german standards.

The Bus is scheduled to take 8,5h for the whole things. It turned out to be 11 hours. And I don't think that we lost some time on any point. Even the inner Russian border was smooth.

Arrival

We arrived at about 22 o'clock and the first thing then was that my Hotel, the Orion Hotel, denied to take me in. For some absurd reason that I understood as, that they never had an E-Visa ever before.

So. Where to get an hotel on 22:30? I decided to check into the next hotel that I saw, the Cosmos Hotel. I'm here right now. And its okay. Very expensive for Russian standards but a 4 Star place.

In the end, I spend 120€ (ticket + 2 nights) - The next Train to Atyrau will come by tomorrow.

14th: Siege-Dropdead (Powerviolence/Thrashcore): Powerviolence pioneers, and they debuted at their schools battle of the bands. It's alright, the saxophone can parts are quite interesting in the context of hardcore punk. Personally I don't feel the sticking power some people talk about, but I can still appreciate it.

13th: JPEGMAFIA-I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU (Experimental hiphop/Hardcore hiphop): I adore Peggy, but this album just isn't it. It's good and all, but just lacks something I can't put my hands on since it dropped. Idk maybe I just got tired of Peggy making yet another batch of songs that about bitching people he doesn't like.

12th: Dying Fetus-Destroy the Opposition (Brutal Death Metal): Good shit. I'd keep it short as DF has another entry higher up.

11th: Melvins-Stoner Witch (Stoner Metal/Stoner Rock): Melvins branching a bit further from sludge and grunge to stoner metal and rock. I heavily prefer their previous works like Bullhead and Houdini, but this album too is good. However the somewhat forced feeling of overlenghtening some songs do take away from the album itself.

10th: D.R.I.-Thrashzone (Crossover Thrash): Has one of the best 3 song starts of any albums I have heard so far. Takes its thrash and hardcore influences and wears it with pride. Sadly I don't have much to say. Worth a check if you like standard thrash metal.

9th: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard-Flight b741 (Boogie Rock/Blues Rock): King Gizz is sure is back. I didn't have high hopes up as I didn't vibe with the singles but the rest of the album is one of the best works of the band. They nailed the bluesy sound throughout the album. The lyrics are great and meaningful (yes I AM a silly Billy). I hope they will explore the bluesy genres in the future, maybe some r&b one day.

8th: Earth-Earth2 (Drone metal): This album is a true experience. I highly recommend if you have a spare 73 minutes.

7th: S.O.D.-Speak English or Die (Crossover Thrash): This album not just goes hard, but it is also funny. Best piece of musical satire I have heard.

6th: Wormrot-Hiss (Grindcore): Good. Wormrot is truly one of the goats of modern day grind.

5th: Dying Fetus-Reign Supreme (Brutal Death Metal): Oh my god this shit is brutal and heavy as fuck, and somehow is not corny like what most bd bands end up being. Also there are people who still waste their braincells over deciphering if From Womb To Waste is pro or anti abortion or not. Which I find funny.

4th: Nails-Every Bridge Burning (Grindcore/Powerviolence): NAILS IS BACK BABYYYYY. They riffed hard in this one. From the first single I knew this one would be one of my aoty for sure. I severely disagree with everyone who says that the guitar tone is shit on this album, this what grind sounds like, deal with it.

3rd: Yacøpsæ-Tanz, Grosny, Tanz... (Powerviolence): The best powerviolence record*. (I still prefer Nails and Combat Wounded Veteran albums, but Nails is more grind and CWV is more emoviolence , so it's best pv in the context of "pure" pv)

2nd: Bolt Thrower-Mercenary (Death Metal): "War destroys everything that makes us human, even if you survive the fronts you don't come back home as the same person the best fucking riff you will ever hear".

1st: Suicidal Tendencies-self title (Hardcore Punk): Punk as fuck, I'm tired, I can't write any good reviews today, fuck you. 8/10

We DO need to have meaningful conversations:

About how Russia is an imperialist colonizer state and opresses minorities. About ethnic cleansing. About genocide that the west has been watching and doing nothing about. About how the West (about how WE) would have done nothing if Ukraine hadn't roared an unmistakable refusal to die.

About how the western left have been ignoring all of this: The genocide, the colonialism, the oppression, and has been carrying the flame for a murderous, imperialist colonial empire for DECADES and continues to do so.

Georgia, Grosny, Donbas, Crimea, Syria... what is happening in Ukraine currently, isn't new. It's happened before. Not in secret. In plain sight. And people still walk around and say russia is only defending themselves. From what? The right of the Ukrainian people to decide their own fate? The right of non-russian people to exist?

The most meaningful conversation we can have right now, is to look at ourselves and ask ourselves: Have we been helping russia commit genocide and helped them colonise other countries? And what do we change right NOW to stop doing that. Stop spreading russian talking points.

Learn what they are. And stop.

That's the minimum. Just that.

as a mun i’m actually perfectly comfortable with them because so many of my fandoms have this as a theme- game of thrones and vikings in terms of setting and time period would be perfect for this sort of thing and my background with general history and fantasy lends to that sort of thing, particularly a feisty resister to being married who manages to ultimately finds the traits in their intended and falls for them so it is less an arrangement and more an agreement. in that sort of setting, i’d be for it!

i need to take a quick look at timelines- i’m wondering if you mean muscovite prince during the era when the russ were ruled by the mongols or more like ivan grosny era when they were a major power but on the edges of the world or a catherine the great era where they were trying to be european? cause that would inform what steve would be in that period! but i’m here! for! that!

Da heulen Putins wohlstandsgesättigte Wutwölfe hierzulande wieder einmal. Keine Lüge ist so verrückt, dass sie nicht von Putins geostrategischen Schwurblern im Westen nachgebetet würde. In Wirklichkeit ist das Verhalten von Putin der beste nachträgliche Beweis dafür, dass die Osteuropäer recht hatten, sich zur NATO zu flüchten. Das systematische Zusammenschießen der ukrainischen Städte ist aus dem Handbuch für Grosny und Aleppo. Wenn man mit Infanterie nicht recht weiterkommt, benutzt man Terrorbombardements, um die Bevölkerung zu demoralisieren und zu vertreiben. Übrigens: Putin ist ein Blutsäufer, dessen Blutspur immer länger und breiter wird. Er ersäuft Russland im Blut und wird wie Hitler als Verbrecher enden. Selenskyj dagegen als Vorbild.

Die Ukraine stellt militärisch keine Gefahr für Russland dar, sie ist dem nördlichen Nachbarn weit unterlegen. Gebietsansprüche hat nur Putin gestellt. Erst die Krim, dann den Donbass, später "Neurussland" – und nun hat er es offenbar auf das ganze Land abgesehen. Denn die Ukraine ist wichtig für die Großmachtambit-ionen des Kreml.

Ohne die Ukraine kann Putin weder sein Projekt der Eurasischen Wirtschaftsunion sinnvoll verwirklichen, weil der Markt zu klein ist, noch einen Militärblock aufbauen, der Moskau Einfluss bis weit nach Europa hinein sichert.

Die Macht Putins bedroht die Ukraine allein durch ihr Dasein, durch die Chance auf demokratischen Wandel. Perfekt ist die Ukraine mitnichten. Der Einfluss der Oligarchen ist weiterhin groß, ebenso die Korruption, wirtschaftlich und sozial liegt das Land darnieder. Doch im Gegensatz zu Putins Russland hat es eine Chance auf Veränderung. Und die will der Kreml-Chef zerstören, um seine Macht zu zementieren.
