the comparison to reddit for the communities label is actually very weird, because the thing that makes reddit such a bad platform is the karma system, baked into the premise of reddit. there's a ton of other comparable systems - the one that actually immediately came to mind is deviantart groups, which is actually an extremely good feature

its something that i think could be fantastic for tumblr as a site for artists if handled properly, and no, actually, i dont think "better tags" is a way to do it, like. ao3 has tag wranglers who keep shit in line, and this is actually something cohost has been dealing with since it developed this "cohost global feed" problem, too, being able to search by unique tag is just a pipe dream where people can agree on how things are tagged. do you tag it as #epilepsy, #epilepsy warning, #eye strain, #cw epilepsy, #flashing colors (THIS IS THE RIGHT ONE) because messing up can have real consequences

and conversely, would you rather track #rosemary, #kanrose, #rosekan, #kanaya x rose, #rose x kanaya, and #grimsnark, catching stray posts from herb enthusiasts, seeing the same 10 posts from following a tag, or risking a spam bot catching it trending and deciding to dump stolen selfies in there, or would you want to just be in the rose/kanaya group?

and if its bad, dont you want something crazy to laugh about, dont you want the drama? dont you want the sarah z video (wishful thinking, lets be real, strange aeons video) about tumblr communities drama in 5 years, like. cmoooooooon live a little

all the pics of the food and drinks we got from the cafe! forgot to get a pic of the highblood and the batterwitch drinks, but we tried those as well! my reviewz of them under the cut bc ppl said they were curious for the tl;dr: everything was lovely!

first image - Dave's apple juice - yeah its just apple juice with a candy apple cold foam which was DELICIOUS and i loved a little appy juice treat :3

these were both really good! they kinda tasted like gushers since they had gushers in em. just soda with some nice flavors in there! super sweet! the sburb alpha was my favorite

third image- the mayor strawberry - i didnt eat the strawberry part but the chocolate was nice and Juice says the strawberry wasn't great, since it isn't strawberry season. he says "it was okay!" enthusiastically lol. it was a real big strawberry 😳 and it was super cute :3

fourth image - Grimsnark Milk Tea: Passion fruit, Jasmine, Marigold, and rose milk tea with a green matcha cold foam - not actually the fuckin neon green color from that picture requiem shared lol! i didn't care for this cause i'm not a fan of how strongly rose-flavored it was? but juice enjoyed it, and the green matcha cold foam was nice :3 Strawberry Lalonde: Strawberry and Rose lemonade topped with sprite - delicious!!! i think the rose part of it gave it the slight flavor of tasting like it was spiked, which was fitting lol and it also came with pink rock candy!!

fifth image - The Pumpkin Rodeo: uhhh i cant find the official description of this but it was two waffles with pumpkin ice cream, whipped cream, green sprinkles, and a candied orange slice! - SO FUCKING GOOD but expensive! but the waffles were fresh and hot and it was so awesome. yummyyy i miss it

sixth image - juice holding the Sopor Slime Pie which was just some key lime pie! it was like, super potent lime flavor.. it was pretty tasty i enjoyed it :) but definitely only recommend it if u like key lime pie a lot cause its like a STRONG one lmao. but it was suuuuper fluffy! very pleasant texture :3

not pictured (sorry i forgor but u can find pics on the instagram it just looked like the picture) - High Blood: Blackberry butterfly pea tea and lavender lemonade Batterwitch Latte: Cake flavored latte with actual Betty Crocker ingredients u could definitely taste all of the ingredients listed in the highblood it was a very nice combination, i enjoyed the blackberry ^u^ two of my friends who tried it gave it rave reviews as well! and the batterwitch was a really good, sweet coffee drink i enjoyed it a lot!!! definitely getting that one again, i think it was my favorite. love me an ice coffee..

I am home now so here is my real review of the Requiem Cafe thing

I only decided to finally go because I had to go up to LA for a couple days to dog-sit anyway, and it didn't really make sense not to at least check it out on the way back. This place is in a center with a bunch of regular restaurants, but across the street there's an ornate church. Yep, from the church you could literally see a bunch of kids dressed in black with horns on their heads outside the cafe. Probably one of the funniest images from the whole experience

In order to wait in line to order, you have to wait in line to enter. This might have been less of a problem earlier in the month or on a weekday, but I have no way of knowing. Any body odor in the establishment I blame more-so on the fact that people dressed in black clothes and body paint were standing in the sun for almost an hour just to enter. Am I being too generous? You decide!

Anyway it's clearly just a vaguely nerd-themed cafe. All the stuff outside makes it look like it's Final Fantasy themed, but I don't know how I describe the interior... There's like a forest-themed "section" (Corner of the room) with tree-like tables and like a jagged-looking medieval table with a scary throne I'm sure lots of people take pictures in. I don’t know why, but it reminded me of a fantasy-themed escape room I went to once.

There's a vending machine that has a bunch of items like blind-bagged socks & "Tamagotchis" I have no idea if they're official Bandai-branded Tamagotchis the cards they were on looked almost handmade... Weird thing to dwell on I know, but this is a weird little cafe.

The reviews online mentioned that you could read or do homework in there like a regular cafe... But even without the huge crowds of Homestucks coming and going and demanding tables I still wouldn't recommend it. It's too dark in there unless you have a well-lit screen or something

Hows the Homestuck stuff? Well there's some cut-outs of the characters in the cafe itself, but most of the Homestuck theming is just the animations put up on screens. I can understand how they were able do an Undertale and Homestuck themed thing so close together if that's all it takes... That's not a dig or anything, I just think that's clever business

It was a bit cool to see Homestuck flashes playing on the biggest screen they've got, but I doubt I would have been that impressed if I had been driving 45 minutes out of the way to see it. But since I was driving in that direction anyway, I will give them credit for the small things

Like I said I got the "Grimsnark" milk tea because it was Rosemary themed and the other drinks looked a bit too sugary. My second pick probably would’ve been one of the regular juice options and that seems underwhelming if that’s all you’re having. The tea was fine, it's really hard to comment on the taste when I've just never had milk tea before. Could've ordered something else I suppose, but I definitely didn't want to wait in line again...

Even with the themed tables, there’s not a lot of places to sit. I probably could have just swooped in an claimed a six-person table like a jerk, but eventually a smaller table opened up and I sat there for like five minutes before I got bored, lol

The gift shop is on the way out and it's got a lot of stuff. It's mostly anime merchandise mind you, but stuff nonetheless. They've got Homestuck totes, shirts, mugs, and stickers of course, but there’s also plenty of Undertale/Deltarune stuff left over too. There might have been more Homestuck stuff earlier in the month, but I have no idea. I didn't buy anything because it also seemed a bit expensive ($60 for a hoodie? No thanks)

The gift shop is also where they've got the vast majority of the character cutouts. There's also a "height chart" in a tiny little room it seemed like people were taking pictures in. I didn’t even go in there

There might have been more to do, but I rushed out of there because I parked on a side street by the church and was convinced they were going to give me a ticket if I took too long. Probably didn't need to do that, since I didn’t get a ticket after all

I feel guilty judging the experience because I had one drink and bolted, but I'd still give give the whole experience a C+ overall. Not amazing, but far from awful. I feel bad for anyone who drove for hours out of their way though...

<3 davekat has just never appealed to me, i strongly prefer them as like, <3< or o8< (with like, jade)

i also just feel like its the ‘fujoshi default’ and that’s always made me personally a little uncomfortable when thinking about shipping them (dave is so transfem to me, i can’t do this..)

Nod nod dave jade and karkat had gr8 black chemistry b4 everyone got a little flanderized in the meteor trip (I SAY THIS WITH LOVE IN MY HEART I LOVED THAT PART OF HS)

I can only assume when it was still an act 4 act 5 rarepair it had a bit more flavour but now its just one of the starter pack ships that just like... Have nothing to it

Atleast with the other starter pack ships the True fans are insane (spider8reath, grimsnark, pumpkin yaoi etc etc) the True davekatters are just so aggressively Normal

Tonight in Oops Height Differences.  I haven’t established anything concrete yet, but I do know they’re Scottish Bruiser Finella (Firestar) and Pakistani Sharpshooter Munirah (Moonracer).

Nira (She gets the Edward Elric ARE YOU CALLING ME SHORT complex when referred to as ‘Munni’ ie. ‘‘Little Girl’) is Elita-1′s trusted sharpshooter and scout, and in trying to translate her helm design, I imagine that she has a flying drone of some sort close to her which aids her in her work. She’s very fond of her drone, which is in the shape of a bird and nicknamed ‘Ababil/Ababeel’. It rests on her head when not in use, so she’s got a semi-permanent birb hat with winged hijab pins at all times on the job.  Despite their vast size differences, these two are pretty close! Nella sees Nira as a younger sister and Nira can often be found using her as a perch when trying to get a good shot, or simply when she wants to hang out. 

Elita’s a grimsnark no-nonsense commander abroad the Starship Carcer but these two definitely have what it takes to melt her ice queen personality (she also genuinely enjoys Nira’s joie de vivre despite the younger woman’s occasional naïveté)

DRINK ATTEMPTED!! We'll see how well my attempt went over when I actually go on Tuesday. :)

I used Torani rose syrup, milk, chamomile tea, and red food coloring for the milk tea part!

For the sweet foam, just matcha, French Vanilla syrup (same brand), and heavy cream.

Couldn't get the candy so I used a little strawberry instead!
