I had a dream last night where I was Grian and after doing something I (he?) return to somewhere and talks to someone who gives him a kind of riddle about Scar.

After thinking on it, I come to the conclusion that Scar is a hippogriff, and basically thought a ton about what that means.

Woke up and decided to write about it, although I changed a few details, especially since most are fuzzy. Starting with the hippogriff thing. The riddle is fuzzy but I’m pretty sure it mentions nothing about horses, plus being part (big) cat seems more fitting. So he’s a griffin now.

Summary: Teaching kids about mythology while hiding his own ties to it is a brand of irony Scar doesn’t know how to feel about.

Scar stares at the class requirements, resigning himself to his fate, as per usual. He’s well versed in history, of course he is, so he didn’t too hard into taking this job. Especially with wanting to share true history with others.

Yet the true issue is when he realized how close to home he’d have to teach. Scar will have to teach about very familiar beings, which include Pegasi, Basilisks, Manticores, Chimeras, and… Griffins.

Pretending they’re mostly mindless beasts is hard on Scar, because it’s wrong. His old friends very much weren’t, nor is he. According to history, they wouldn’t be able to teach history, although Scar is fully aware of how wrong history is.

He would normally adjust lessons to tell the truth, but telling the truth here would be disastrous. While it’s not a perfect life, it would be way worse if people know what he is.

Scar drops his head back, tilting it to the side to see Jellie lounging his her cat tree, “What am I even doing, Jellie?”

She meows from her perch, tail flicking back and worth as she watches him. It’s hard to judge her expression from that angle.

He sighs, “I know, I know, it’s just… I don’t really know what to do, adapting is hard enough as it is. I don’t know what I’d do instead of this, if I can even do anything else.”

Jellie meows again, this time more sympathetically. She makes her way down the cat tree and over to his desk, hopping onto it. She nudges his hand, requesting him to pet her.

Scar immediately complies, scratching her behind the ears. “I should be used to this,” he murmurs, “I’ve been doing this for years now, it’s been the same every single time.”

He sits there, petting Jellie for a while, thinking about his job and everything it means. “At least the company is nice” he murmurs after some time, thinking about his fellow teachers. Scar sighs, “Although that would probably change if they knew, huh?”

Jellie meows as she jumps down onto his lap, curling up. She looks at peace as he continues to pet her.

Scar chuckles, “Your life is so carefree, huh? Not a worry in the world. I wish my life could be the same.” He hums, “Although we never were a deity-ified as you all were. Always in the lap of luxury, you were.”

She only purrs in response, getting comfortable and fully settled on his lap. It comforts Scar more then he would expect, but Jellie always has that effect on him. Maybe it’s just a cat thing, something very instinctual in him.

“You deserve the best, so it’s not surprising,” he continues. “I’m glad to have you,” he chuckles, “keeps my sanity in check. It’s nice to have someone to talk to about this, even if you don’t fully understand.”

Scar looks back at the papers as Jellie falls asleep, he‘ll figure this out, he always does.

Headcanon: Griffen steals the other boys’ clothes. They thought he looked cute in them, so they bought him some in his own size. He was thrilled and wears them as often as possible
