Grian’s Widow Curse
(I’m yapping)
kinda surprised how people talk about Jimmy’s canary curse (that’s been over for 3 series now, counting real life) more than Grian’s widow curse.
like he’s made so many graves for his fallen allies and had got so fed up with it he literally added a feature to bring back his dead husbands (the revival power in the eps with super powers).
he also kills his husbands quite often (black widow symbolism).
Scar in 3rd life (fight to the death), Mumbo in last life (self defense), BigB in double life (accidentally), Mumbo in wild life (revenge but also technically Mumbo was a zombie).
and he also tends to be cause of death by accident or indirectly a lot;
Scar in 3rd life (blew him up, gave them the idea to go break the enderman boat causing Scar to fall into the ravine he forgot to warn Scar about, and the fight to the death), already mentioned him killing Mumbo in last life (I don’t recall that series so he might’ve killed more allies than Mumbo), mentioned BigB but he caused Scar’s death (not under his control but he was playing risky on their red life), Jimmy and Joel in limited life (there were a lot he caused for those two actually but mainly when he killed Jimmy out of anger, and when he had Jimmy push off the TNT cart when he fell to his death, given that was technically Jimmy’s own fault, also when he pushed the button. Joel with the whole ladder ordeal and when he couldn’t convince Joel to kill him for time, again it was really Joel’s own fault for that one so it doesn’t count that much), don’t really recall Secret Life since I haven’t had time to rewatch it yet but I’ll add to this when I do (if there’s the black widow symbolism), Skizz and Mumbo both dying in the tower (Mumbo exploding and Skizz falling to a spot where Grian hadn’t yet placed water (these are indirect and again those two are technically at fault but if Grian hadn’t yet placed finished safety proofing his tower or just hadn’t built it and brought those two up there).
I admit some of these aren’t solid black widow things but you can’t deny he has a widow curse.

Uhhh more watcher Grian stuff bc the trivia bit gave me ideas :3
"Grian! I need your help, this one's about you!"
Skizz had said, right before he ran off toward his bot. Grian promptly went over to help Skizz. The man's voice rang out through the surrounding group as Grian grew closer. "Er... This one's... Odd." A choir of 'huh?' 'What do you mean?' And, 'How so?' Were the response from the crowd.
"The question says, 'Grian is...' And then it cuts to the answers."
Grian felt a chill go up his spine. The small wings on his head fluttered, threatening to close over his eyes. He had a feeling something like this might happen. A feeling that THEY would mess with this game as well. It didn't matter how much he put into the code, they were always following.
"What are the answers?" Mumbo asked, raising an eyebrow. His sword was planted in the dirt, his hands against the handle as he used the weapon like a crutch. Skizz answered with a slightly weary tone. "Well... The answers are, 'An Entity,' 'A Player,' 'A Code,' and- wait a second. The last answer is glitching out. I can't see it." Mumbo stepped closer, glancing at the screen on the bot. Grian shakily moved forward as well. A good portion of the surrounding group had a clue on what was happening.
To Grian, the words weren't fritzing out at all. In fact, they were a bright purple that left the rest of the screen unreadable. The glow was so bright it painted the surrounding area purple. Just enough to leave a film over everything. It was like no one else saw it.
"It's the glitched one." Grian said, his voice coming out almost detached. "They- uhm, the bot's a little glitched. It shouldn't be a problem again." He chuckled nervously, the wings on his head finally closing over the top half of his face.
Mumbo tensed, quickly pulling his sword properly into his hand. He didn't often see Grian with an obscured face. He had stated how much he hated masks before, and he had only recently been willing enough to open up and explain why. Mumbo didn't know all the details, but he knew enough to say, this wasn't good. This was dangerous.
Skizz wearily selected the answer, watching as the bot calibrated and glew green, putting its robotic arms up in the air to signify Skizz's correct answer. Skizz collected the drops, his prize if you will. All though, Skizz wasn't paying attention to what he had picked up. He was paying attention to the newfound purple fade at the edges of Grian's little head wings.
Few people knew what it actually meant.
Everyone was focusing on it.
The ones that did were terrified.
The ones that didn't were concerned, maybe even scared.
Fin.

I feel like I have to come and say, as I've been watching Mumbos episode, I really feel like Grians been leaning into the whole watcher thing, genuinely. He was trying to protect Mumbo and Skizz with everything he had, but they still died. That's the way the game goes, though. And he didn't have to change the food source, but he knows that it's the way the game is played. He has to follow the rules or else.

Thinking about Grian saying in the last 3rd Life session that he didn't want Scar to die causw he was "the most interesting character".
Thinking about how much reckless stuff Grian has done on Hermitcraft just to "see what happens".
And thinking about Evo, and how some Watcher habits never quite go away huh

Grian’s eyes are non-existent, Grian’s eyes have been plucked out, Grian’s eyes were plucked out by the Watchers when he was stripped of his powers-
Credit to @bleachyeyes for the video, which is from Scar’s most recent stream: https://youtu.be/Met1TH__tJk

GRIAN LORE TIMELINE
I don't care what anyone else says, but for me, Grian's lore timeline goes:
Yandere High School -> Tokyo Soul -> EVO -> Life Series -> CraftedMovies -> Wynncraft -> HermitCraft.
Now to my explanation: Basically, Grian was abandoned by his parents. The whole Yandere High School thing happened, which made him a bit deranged. But after the universe was destroyed in Tokyo Soul, Grian, Taurtis, and Sam were given a choice by a watcher:
Either redo high school all over again or participate in an infinite death loop. Grian and Taurtis chose the infinite death loop, figuring it was better than high school could ever be, and Sam chose to redo everything all over again.
This led to EVO. Taurtis took a bit longer because he was still thinking about his choice, but eventually, he came to EVO as well. Grian is still a bit deranged, which makes the watchers intrigued and wondering if Grian would be fitting to become a watcher and maybe he might enjoy the suffering.
But then they instantly realize something: Taurtis is an issue. He's stopping Grian from achieving something greater, from fully going into madness. So they get rid of Taurtis.
Grian then goes to The End and becomes a watcher. And he's a GOOD watcher. Everything he plans, every server he destroys, is filled with chaos and bloodshed, and it's entertaining. The watchers LOVE IT. But Grian finds it boring, so he joins in. He becomes part of it. So the Life games begin. The other watchers are against this, but Grian doesn't care. He likes the thrill; he enjoys being part of it.
But during the Life Series, he starts to genuinely enjoy the other players. He likes the jokes, the pranks, to laugh and smile with other people, and at some point, he enjoys their company more than the death game itself.
Everyone there has been in this death loop for a while, being tricked by the watchers, seeking a safe space for themselves and ending up trapped. So Grian's redemption arc begins. He helps every player break out of the death loop, erasing their memories and sending them to a safer universe where the watchers would never find them.
The watchers are FURIOUS, so Grian runs away and goes to seek out help. That's when he meets the Crafted Movies crew. They are insanely knowledgeable about Minecraft, and they were also running from the watchers after their original worlds were destroyed, so they decide to join Grian.
With that, Grian manages to defeat the original watchers, ending the bloodshed. The Crafted Movies crew then finds a server called Wynncraft, which is hunted by infinite amounts of monsters and barely anyone can survive. So Grian uses all of his power to grant the people of Wynncraft the power of magic, the power to fight back. He then leaves the Crafted Movies crew to take care of Wynncraft.
Grian visits some different worlds for a while before finally finding HermitCraft. Not being as powerful, he settles there. The end
Anyway, that's about it. This is mainly focused on the fact that Watchers in the Bible (Book of Enoch, tbf) fell in love with humanity and abandoned heaven, living amongst humans and giving them the forbidden knowledge of magic.

There’s something wrong with Grian.
Maybe it’s the way he has such odd beady eyes. Or how he’s got paws and feathered antennae, even though avians have neither of those things. Nor do parrots have clawed wings.
Or the way he always knows the goings-on. The way his pranks always mange to cause so much chaos, the way he always seems short and stubby.. even though avians have far more aerodynamic figures.
Maybe it’s how he doesn’t seem to always open his mouth when he talks, or how he never blinks, or how he seems to feel far too comfortable with the death games.
The Hermits enjoy them, yes, but there is something in the corners of the victors’ eyes. Like they came back wrong. Like there are eyes forever watching them.
Maybe it’s that he isn’t affected by the Void. Maybe it’s that he can eat chocolate, even though avians can’t. Maybe it’s that his form seems like a puppet pulled by strings, almost seeming to .. glitch in the corners of your vision. Maybe it’s that his laugh echoes like he’s in a huge empty room, no matter where he is, or that his feathers and hair always ruffle in a wind that isn't there.
There’s something wrong with Grian. So why don’t the Hermits notice?

Grian joining the death games just to sour the Watchers' meal by making them fun is so him and should be the default in this fandom.
