Also like, my reason for making Domitius' Vow is because I wanted to explore why vampires in the Dark Brotherhood are accepted, but on conditions. Why is it ok for Vicente Valtiere to be a vampire and share the gift, but not for Greywyn Blenwyth? Why is it ok for immortals themselves to exist within a faith that values mortality?
To be immortal is in itself an act that goes against my explanation of the Brotherhood's belief system in Dear Brother: they believe death is the natural state of the world, and life is but a brief anomaly. Pursuing immortality is disrespecting your Father, it's running away from home when all he does is try and provide for you! How dare you? To want the immortality itself seen as a selfish and naive blasphemy.
However, when approached from the angle of extending your service to the Brotherhood, it's regarded in the totally opposite light. Now, it's selfless of you to leave home on such a longer mission trip than the rest of us, because you've proven that you're using it towards our duty, rather than to gallivant. You caught a glimpse of the Void and can reaffirm the faith of those around you by speaking its truth louder.
But that contradiction is why The Black Hand wouldn't tolerate the formation of the Crimson Scars. From a player perspective, we're like "yeah why WOULDN'T they all be vampires? that makes their job easier. that's why I'm always a vampire archer assassin bro", but in the setting, the reason can be two-fold. To have too many immortals in the Brotherhood 1) threatens the powers-that-be and 2) goes against their very teachings. It disrupts the hierarchy and scripture all in one.
I wanted to have an in-universe fable to emphasize how seriously they regard this. It's something I would see people like Vicente, who was around through the Crimson Scar Purification mind you, holding close to help guide his behavior as a vampire. It's why he would be so particular about who he shares his Dark Gift with ... which, to be honest, he would probably need permission to share it in the first place. 3E433 Brotherhood is only 12 years out of the Second Purification, and its ruling council is probably really touchy about who gets vampirism. They will uplift a few who are pious and worthy of receiving the Gift (Vicente's route), but it's not something they can afford to give to just any and every Dark Sibling they find (Greywyn's route).
Anyways. Yeah. Tldr; Brotherhood vampires are only conditionally accepted and held up with respect, the condition being that they devote themselves to Brotherhood service and faith like an evil cult monk.

it’s so funny with eso taking obscure characters from the main games and using them. they did it with greywyn blenwyth and which made it canon that, no matter what race you pick, the hok/coc has a high elf relative.

I suspect it might be due to the Crimson Scars attempting to take over the Dark Brotherhood 12 years prior to the events of Oblivion; more specifically, Greywyn Blenwyth attempting to turn it into an exclusively vampire organization.
If Vicente was spared the fate of the other vampires who were culled (given how thorough their Purges can be), I suspect he must have been trusted by the right people among the Black Hand (I read a pretty good fan fiction that dealt with this once, where Vicente was Lucien’s mentor and Vicente lamented the loss of the Crimson Scars because not all of them shared Greywyn Blenwyth’s views on vampire domination).
Anybody who has played TES Oblivion wanna help me figure out why Vicente Valtieri is not a member of the Black Hand because it’s really bugging me right now?
He’s been in the Dark Brotherhood for over 200 years. It’s not like he’s inexperienced…

“Greywyn Blenwyth.” He chews on it, rolls the syllables round in waves on his tongue. That sharp, toothy grin unveils like the stage behind a curtain. “What sort of a stupid name is that?” Greywyn smiles something soft and creased round the edges, and coos, voice gentle and low that Nuckelaví alone would hear it.
“The type I’d invite you to breathe in my ear tonight, in bed.”
Nuckelaví is charmed, although taken aback, and his grin falls away from him slowly, replaced by a lingering smile. He loses himself, watching the other vampire’s lips for as long as silence fell.
Soon, Greywyn speaks in that hushed tone again. “Forgive me. Have I spoken out of turn?”
“No.” Young Nuckelaví corrects him, still dreamy-eyed and staring at those lips. They both share a laugh. “No... In fact, I think you’re really quite fetching.”

i love that the only pc that canonically has any sort of family is the hok

#It’s late and i’m tired and musing
Nuckelaví somewhat resents the Dark Brotherhood. In fact not just somewhat, he resents them deeply and it’s all over Greywyn Blenwyth and the Crimson Scars. He fell really truly in love with Greywyn, felt that he was his only real equal in drive and ambition and vision, and that they were going to almost literally rule the world together, and lead Tamriel into this bright shiny age of vampires with their combined wit and creativity. I’ve even played with the idea lately that Greywyn convinces him to worship Sithis despite not being a Dark Brotherhood initiate. Honestly though he could have worshipped slugs for all Nuck would have cared, had Greywyn not up and disappeared off the face of the earth, he would have followed and supported him through anything.
In my personal Elder Scrolls canon, Nuck’s idea was that with Greywyn’s purging of non-vampire Brotherhood initiates, and his own affiliation with the Cyrodiil Vampyrum, Greywyn’s Crimson Scars would gain their power in the brotherhood and help Nuckelaví climb the ranks of the Vampyrum and, eventually, take over altogether. That way he could really steer BOTH their organisations into a position of so much power they could actually have some INFLUENCE on Tamriel and its people. And they encourage each other and nurture each others insane, impossible ideas.
Maybe while Nuckelaví does it mostly for power and because he loves Greywyn, Greywyn, while I headcanon that he loves Nuckelaví in return, does it because his visions tell him the more power and influence the Crimson Scars can gain, the more pleased Sithis will be with his actions? That maybe their combined resources and what they could conquer could gain enough of a following that Sithis worship could become a commonplace and not exclusive to the Brotherhood and Argonian culture.
Anyway
The fact that Silarian betrays Greywyn, and that the Dark Brotherhood turns their back on vampirism (something Nuck believes proves their lack of fight, or commitment -- that the Brotherhood IS weak and in NEED of that purging), leaves Nuckelaví not only furious and distrusting of them for hundreds of years to come, but it sort of. Traumatizes him? Not only is he shunned from the Cyrodiil Vampyrum (he would not have told them his plans to overthrow of course, but they’d have known about him working with the Brotherhood and will have looked like a failure for the downfall of the Scars and probably would be punished either way), everything he intends to do with his life thrown into disarray; he makes a run for Skyrim to seek refuge at Volkihar which of course, leads to many more traumas under Harkon. And above all, the only person he’s ever cared for since before he became undead just suddenly disappeared out of his life, and he could only presume after only a brief period of denial, that he was killed after escaping the first time.
I just think a lot about his relationship with Greywyn and what state of mind it sets him up in. That it’s the reason for his self harm and his erratic, self destructive behavior. Just sheer hopeless love and damning loneliness.
boy that got long
