Zephrine's Various Children
So now that the campaign is over (And before the dragon age brainrot overtakes me tomorrow), I can actually show off Zephrine's no-longer-hypothetical children! Zephrine adopts her first right after the campaign and then has her first bio kid about 10 years post-campaign, and goes from there. She doesn't exactly settle down in that she's still very very very politically active as that's her life's passion, but she does enjoy a nice, if unconventional family life while she's continuing to be a girlboss.
The art is a bit old for most of these but you'll get the idea, have a rough summary of each below:
Arrian Shaxarn- lawful neutral -they/them. fire genasi- blue draconic bloodline sorcerer/assassin rogue. (belongs to @greyfen)
The first of Zephrine's children, a former assassin who was reincarnated by Zephrine after they met their gruesome end at the hands of a vampire. They're in their mid 20s(late teens equivalent for fire genasi) when they meet Zephrine, which initially made her a bit bemused and apprehensive when her newlywed husband Viseryn suggested they adopt them after the defeat of the Midnight Sun. Initially it was proposed as a means to grant them citizenship in Tiamyra faster, but ultimately the two consider Arrian as one of their own and are very supportive and close. As far as Arrian themself; they're very thoughtful, polite and kind, though they do have a slight vain streak befitting someone with dragon blood. They end up being quite politically active and have similar views to Zephrine, which means they get along quite well, and they're very supportive of each other. Overall they're quite grateful to both Zephrine and Viseryn for the opportunity at a literal new life that doesn't involve being a tool of an assassin guild.
Marciel Celeste DuPrei- she/they/he- gold dragonborn -chaotic good- swashbuckler rogue/circle of the shepherd druid
Marciel is Zephrine's first biological child and only child with Florian. She was unplanned, which combined with Zephrine's political career meant that socially she may as well be a bastard (Zephrine is married to Florian but unofficially, her official marriage is to Viseryn, though she loves them both. The polycule isn't entirely secret but not publicly broadcast either. It's complicated), and therefore she was mostly raised by other people, predominantly Therila and Florian. She has a bit of a complex about this and thus her relationship with her mother can be a bit contentious and Marciel generally avoids her when she can. As for them, they're rebellious, hedonistic and arrogant but good-hearted and fall into the life of an adventurer quite easily as they very much enjoy fighting monsters, helping the downtrodden, and being the center of attention.
Circe Shaxarn- she/her- aasimar(abishai)- lawful neutral- Cleric of Tiamat, arcana domain
Circe is the first bio child that Zephrine has with Viseryn, and due to her lineage + being an aasimar, she has a lot of expectations placed upon her shoulders. While her parents are very supportive and understanding, she unfortunately is somewhat of a public figure and some people get pretty weird ideas about her and her future. Some even go so far as to believe she's some sort of Chosen One, which Circe, as someone who wants to succeed on her own merits, hates. She's an intellectual and very passionate about magic and faith, but lacks the charisma of her mother or her siblings and hates being the center of attention. Despite being a bit grumpy as a person, she still shares Zephrine's more idealistic version of Tiamat, and is quite idealistic in general, even if she's bad at showing it. She wants to invoke change, but she wants to avoid harsher methods of doing so where she can. She argues a lot with Kallista and Marciel but gets on well with Arrian.
Kallista Shaxarn- she/her, red dragonborn, true neutral, green draconic bloodline sorcerer (belongs to @greyfen)
The second bio child between Zephrine and Viseryn and the youngest overall, Kallista is charismatic, mischievous, and ambitious. Feeling somewhat in the shadow of her other siblings, she's definitely the Loudest of them and like Circe wants to stand on her own merits as opposed to her lineage. She's also the most politically minded of Zephrine's children and has a lot of potential on that front, something that makes her parents both very proud and somewhat wary. She’s also probably the most ruthless of the children when it comes to her goals, but she matches that ruthlessness with an equally gregarious personality and a strong loyalty to those who’ve earned her trust. She looks up to Arrian but idolizes Marciel and tends to clash a lot with Circe, who she often accuses of being boring and no fun.
#dnd#dragonborn#ocs#okase art#zephrine#viseryn#florian#therila#kallista#circe#arrian#marciel#kallista makes me extra sad bc the dragon she got her lineage from was zephrines friend lorazzel and he died in the final battle :(#so now theres always a piece of him with both zephrine and her#also circe being an aasimar and kallista having green dragon blood instead of black#is reflective of how zephrine has done a lot of weird shit to her body throughout the campaign#marciel is the most normal one lmao

After 6 years, the Dungeons and Dragons campaign I've been playing in has finally come to an end. A satisfying end to a wonderful story. It's incredible to think how far my little birdy boy Encore has come from the start to the very end. From a little urchin sparrow to capable, confident world leader. He's come so far and, I feel, so have I.
It's going to feel strange not thinking about him so much of my every waking moments. He and this campaign have been part of my life for so long now it will feel almost wrong not having him in my head any more, though he'll always be in my heart.
So it's goodbye Helena. Goodbye Zephrine. Goodbye Lazuli. Goodbye Gwahaedir. And goodbye Encore. Goodbye and thank you to you all.
Thank you Will for being Gwahaedir
Thank you @sapphism-and-nihilism for being Helena
Thank you @okase for being Zephrine
Thank you @dinosrpg for being Lazuli
Thank you @greyfen for DMing the entire story
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

So I hadn’t uploaded these either, like a fool. Was trying something new with kinda mixing my more paint-y style with my normal one??
Anyway, this is Aedrisoranthe, a Platinum Knight(aka a sort of knight errant who represents Bahamut) and Tethiadrix, a traveling adventurer(who belongs to @greyfen) and definitely not a copper dragon who’s curious about not-dragon society.

So fill us in a bit regarding S'ranni's background. Does she have ambitions? Any deep set fears? How might she use that abilities she picks up as she develops?
I managed to ramble again, so putting a read-more down below~
S’ranni was a mere sugarcane farmer on the southern coast of Elsweyr near Senchal. As a kitten, she worked her hands to the bone to help provide for her expansive family, consisting of a diverse cast across the different breeds of khajiit. By the time her family farm was raided, her mother had fallen ill, and the unknown fate of her parent haunts her to this day, though she’s certain the worst has come to pass long before she was able to do anything for her.
Press-ganged into service aboard a bosmer pirate vessel, S’ranni and a young argonian lad became fast friends. They worked side by side almost constantly, the argonian teaching her Cyrodiilic piece by piece to better understand one another. Eventually, the two were able to share their stories with each other, lamenting their cruel fate and resolving to take it by the reins for themselves. They convinced the rest of their press-ganged comrades into a mutiny that ultimately saw the captain slain, and the argonian was made captain, S’ranni serving as his first mate.
As the two continued on as pirates, they grew closer and ignited a passionately romantic relationship. But, as the years went on, eventually the argonian (who had taken the Imperial name of Valus) wanted more than a life as a pirate captain and saw smuggling as a safer avenue of revenue. This terrified S’ranni and a number of the crew, who had known nothing more than pirating since they had been forced aboard the Talon years ago. They feared that, without a need for a martial presence aboard, their role aboard the ship would become a financial liability. Grievances were aired and negotiations were set, but both sides failed to listen to one another and tensions flared until S’ranni lost her temper, striking her captain and lover. Her side saw this as a spark of mutiny, quickly drawing their weapons and beginning to fight even as S’ranni tried to stop them. Unfortunately, Valus took the blow personally, the captain and first mate engaging in a deadly duel that resulted in Valus losing an eye and S’ranni drifting off toward shore with a hole in her gut.
Luckily, she was able to mend the worst of her wounds and make it to dry land, but she had lost her home, her lover, and her livelihood. Everything she feared had come to pass of her own doing. Now, she works as a mercenary and adventurer to scrape out a living, her skills in magic all she has left to rely upon.
And with background out of the way, let’s move on, shall we?
As far as ambitions go, S’ranni doesn’t really have much she’s aiming for other than survival. She’s taking her life one day at a time, though she’s accumulated a fair amount of money considering she conjures her own equipment with her skills.
S’ranni’s worst fears have already come to pass, leaving her with only a handful of minor reservations and aversions. Undead, unbound daedra, and being recognized by the authorities of the southern regions are the quickest ways to muss her fur, but beyond those, she’s remarkably unflappable.
And for new abilities, S’ranni would see them put to use improving her lifestyle or correcting mistakes she’s made. She knows how to work with next to nothing, so adding more tools to her belt simply gives her more options to employ in her exploits.

Mithra 02: Rictus
A second piece following Mithra from my Sunday D&D game; this one taking place a few sessions later after we returned to Boroford, the town we’d started in, and found it to be overrun with death and weirdness. Things got even weirder after this but that is a story for another day. As ever if you read these, I hope you enjoy; apologies if they are a bit rough, it’s been years since I wrote consistent prose.
It was strange to be back.
She’d been at this place a week before she’d met the others and they’d gone chasing what felt now like some sort of wild goose chase. As Nilsa and her made their way back towards the centre of town, Nilsa striding ahead in what seemed equal parts determination and concern, the latter tinged with a little fear; Mithra found herself casting a look across much of the settlement, still scarred from the goblins that had purportedly raided a few days previously.
The small town of Boroford had been less alien than a larger settlement might have been when she first arrived to meet that cursed emissary of the Queen, Bromm. She’d camped outside for about a week, arriving early to get the lay of the land, her brain too accustomed to monsters in the shadows to simply assume all would be well on arrival. But on the surface it seemed like a simple town, similar to where she grew up, if a tad larger. She’d enjoyed its rustic charm almost in spite of herself, ignored the curious looks and loitered in various spots throughout the town, simply enjoying the presence of people again; even if they were ignorant strangers, they were people, easing an ache for company she hadn’t known she’d had.
Even then though, something had seemed strange.
Back then some of the folks in town had only ever smiled, no matter the situation or insult given by others; even the hunter who had accidentally shot her in the forest when she’d been exploring the area cheerfully stated they’d both learned a valuable lesson that day before strolling away whistling. At the time she’d been wrapped up in her own problems and put it down to her own decades-long semi-isolation in the Verdant Thicket leaving her socially inept in this new environment. Now though…
She was no expert on humans beyond those she’d known growing up, and those memories seemed like they’d happened to a different person now, but she was pretty sure that they didn’t cheerfully smile and laugh about their mother lying slaughtered and unburied in the abandoned tavern next door. The words of Amelia the baker echoed in her mind as she chased after the agitated paladin.
“You should buy these cakes, the last my mother ever made! Aha!”
“Well you know, we’ve all got to die some time!”
Then there was Nilsa, seemingly convinced that this ‘David the Caretaker’ they’d heard of was her brother, a bit of questioning had revealed that he could be human or aasimar, that Nilsa was not on great terms with her family and a joint agreement that whatever had happened in this place something was very wrong.
Things only got worse when they arrived at the town hall.
The woman behind the desk had the same smile, the same casual attitude; Nilsa was scary to most people or at least mildly off putting when angered. She approached problems like a charging bull with about as much tact; and the smiling old woman seemed only to become nicer, as if she were intentionally provoking the increasingly frustrated and distressed paladin.
Watching her mannerisms and attitude though, the idea that the deceased caretaker, (verbally acknowledged to potentially be the deceased brother of the angry and heavily armed woman in front of her), was dead seemed to be an annoyance, something that simply caused more work. It was as if the woman was incapable of empathising or caring, or had been rendered unable to do some by whatever had happened in the town. As she delivered the news that the caretaker named David had likely been killed and left in the tavern they’d passed earlier; the smile, wide and horrifically cheerful, never left her face.
“You didn’t even bury him?!”
Nilsa’s sharp anger burned openly for a moment, a shift of tone that would have rung alarm bells in a sane person’s mind, Mithra was immediately on edge as she saw Nilsa grasping the hilt of the blade on her belt.
“What kind of people do not even bury their dead and leave them to rot!?!”
The old woman’s smile never faltered, never moved; there was only the slight tilt of the head as if the question was foolish.
“Well the caretaker hasn’t been doing his job has he? Clearly we need to find one that is better at what he’s supposed to do.”
The blade began to leave its sheath as Nilsa’s face darkened and fury played across her features, her mismatched eyes burning into the older woman behind the counter. Mithra wanted to be disgusted and felt for Nilsa’s potential loss; but they couldn’t start something here. This town, these people: they were either mad or magically compelled and confronting either situation with their companions scattered across much of Boroford would only end one way.
Her hand reached out, hesitating for a moment before gently resting on Nilsa’s shoulder in an attempt to both check her actions and reassure her.
“This isn’t worth our time right now, this isn’t normal. We should go.’
Mithra was grateful when Nilsa released a breath and nodded, offering an irate comment to the woman before turning sharply on her heel and leaving the building, Mithra a few paces behind her. Before crossing the threshold of the town hall she gave one last glance over her shoulder.
The woman was watching them leave, the rictus grin having never once left her face.

4, 10, 17 and 23 for Eli
Sorry for the very late answers :’D , But here it is!
Eli (art by @starsclowder)
4 - Has your character ever witnessed something that fundamentally changed them? If so, does anyone else know?
Reaper war aside, Eli has a vivid childhood memory of her grandfather visiting while her mother was absent. Her father was here and barred the old man from stepping inside. She remembers a heated argument. Open insults. Yelling. It’s one of the only moments she saw her father so shaken and emotional, as he sat down afterwards with her, and kept hugging her, weeping. Although she was confused at the times, and also scared… She learned through her mother what kind of controlling and abusive man her grandfather was. She never brought it up to her father, and always saw this faint moment of vulnerability as a proof of love and strength for family.
10 - Does your character feel more comfortable with more clothing, or with less clothing?
She is more comfortable with less clothing. Growing up on Macedyn, she got used to a rather mediterranean climate. This first design on the left, from @palavenmoons is typically her favourite type of comfy everyday outfit.
17 - What was your character’s favorite toy as a child?
Eli being an engineer, she remembers fondly her big construction set, which her parents kept in the attic until the destruction of their home during the war. Today, she still plays with construction sets… with her two kids. They are even planning the building of an underground system under a pile of books!
23 - What does your character dislike in other people?
Affected by her parents an her upbringing, Eli has an absolute contempt for people who feel the need to make others or close relatives suffer, as a mean of asserting power. Secondly, she is far from being a patient person. Being a brilliant engineer and practical mind, She can’t stand people who can’t work or do things correctly and efficiently. Wasting the time of others is for her a profound mark of disrespect and lack of foresight.
The answers were short, but I hope you found them informative! Thanks for the ask!

10 Facts Meme: Mercival in both ES and ME
Elder Scrolls
- Mercival’s design is based on a lion. He has a full mane that frames his face and goes down over his chest. He even has a tuft on the end of his tail and everything.
- Mercival is a bit of a polyglot and knows the main languages of each of the provinces, even some of the ancient, dead languages and he even knows some Daedric as well. This is because he travels anywhere the Empire needs him to go so he has to be prepared to speak anything he needs to, or even read if he’s to intercept important documents. He knows Daedric because, well, Daedra can be a threat and being able to recognise Dadric script and what it says is never a bad thing.
- Adding onto that though, Mercival doesn’t let on how much he’s able to understand of any given language of any given time. He’d much prefer to be thought of as funny, slightly witty if ignorant entertainer than as someone who might know too much.
- Mercival is a fan of history, especially literary history, and he has a hobby when travelling of translating foreign and ancient texts and plays for later publishing or performing. He’s actually had a few of his translations published and circulated round some of the courts.
- While staying in a court one of Mercival’s favourite things to do is to engage in a game of letters with the other courtiers present. They make the days and evenings pass a lot faster and they’re fun to help stretch his creative muscles.
- Mercival has kept tabs on a few of the other children he knew when he was still stuck in the orphanage in Riften. One girl became a baker in Whiterun, one boy got taken to Morrowind, another girl moved to Bruma and Mercival visits her every so often. One boy though grew up to be a serial killer in High Rock, which was a bit alarming but he’s dead now.
- Even though he travels all over the place Mercival has a modest home in the Imperial City and a small place in Solitude in Skyrim that’s a little way down the street from the Bard’s College.
- He has at least two to four bells braided into his mane at all times. Sometimes he weaves in even more if he feels like being fancy. When performing for court he likes to put bells on his wrists and ankles to help add an extra element to his performance.
- His accent is a mix between Nord and Cyrodillic.
- That’s his default voice anyway. Mercival is able to mimic voices really easily. He’s been known to work in impressions and imitations into his more satirical pieces for court.
Mass Effect
- Mercival is dreadful at snacking while he’s doing something, like working or writing or watching vids or some such. He knows he shouldn’t but some things are just too nice!
- He’s very open about being spiritual but doesn’t talk about it all the time. He enjoys the idea that everything is a part of everything else and that the spirits bind everything together. He finds it comforting.
- He’s a very eager storyteller and a bit of a raconteur. His battle reports are known for being highly detailed when submitted. Not overly so but more than one might expect for official reports.
- Is specialised in high powered assault rifles and hand held explosives. Mercival likes things that go boom.
- He’s currently in training to be a Spectre. He had never even considered that he might one day even have the possibility of becoming one, or that he even could, so to be given even the opportunity to is already mind-blowing for him.
- Turian Mercival likewise knows a number of different languages and has done a few foreign language performances in the am dram groups he’s been part of.
- Mercival is a really heavy sleeper but also a really messy sleeper. He’s definitely the kind of person where he’ll wake up and the quilt’s half off the bed, the pillows are scattered, there’s one under his arm now, stuff like that.
- Also he’s a huge cuddler. Loves cuddling. He actually sleeps a lot less restlessly when he’s cuddling up to someone.
- Mercival is one of the few characters I have who owns their own skycar. Since he’s based on the Citadel he uses it to get around places rather than use public transport. A frequent complaint of his is how expensive fuel is and how badly everyone drives there.
- His usual extranet habits involve watching any kind of movie he can get his hands on and watching it while he does paperwork. He likes any kind but isn’t a huge fan of horror or gore movies. Also any which are stereotypical action films tend to bore him a bit so he avoids those too.

I love your art so much! you have such a cool style. the Falnorian fashion is really interesting, I was curios about the fabric patterns, would you mind sharing how you did it?
Sure! That project was a process of experimenting with the way brushes were textured in order to emulate the feel of different textures of cloth, but there’s also a couple places where I more explicitly crafted textures/brushes/etc. I’ll go through and show you the brushes used and any additional techniques that were relevant under the cut!
So a lot of this is just flat out instructions for how to do a thing in Photoshop. If you use different software, you may or may not have all the same layer settings and options. I don’t know how to post the brushes I use to the internet, but google around--there are a lot of cheap or free cool brushes for most drawing software. These are the ones I’ve accumulated over the ages.
Also I was gonna do all the outfits but I found I was repeating myself a lot, so you only get the ones with the most to teach you, which is like four of them.
An overall note- I worked in a CMYK file format which limits the available colors and in some cases majorly changed what colors looked like under relevant effects or when changing layer settings. I don’t generally recommend this unless you need your work to be printable because it constrains your palette, but there are definitely some things that are easier to make look cohesive with those kind of automatic color constraints, so. It’s a mixed bag.
This is one of my favorite texture brushes. It jitters color, and it has some fun texture to it that can be very different depending on how heavy you set the pen pressure and how long your strokes are. I used it as a baseline for both her dress and his coat and boots, to provide texture and also give me a set of varied colors to move around and blend and work with. I spent a while on her dress blocking out color more specifically from the set that brush provided before bringing in new ones. It’s fun too because when I do texture with it it feels kind of multicolored and blended.
His pants, and probably one of the most common brushes for the Western set. It’s got a somewhat more roughspun texture while also being able to go to just being flat and cover a decent amount of space between for light texturing.
A simple square brush which varies opacity by pen pressure, for shading him.
A mostly flat oval brush that I used for highlights on her clothing. Same deal--the opacity is determined by pen pressure. Helped smooth things out a bit, and with very bright lights helps make the cloth feel more reflective and satiny.
(It should be said I know nothing about fabric and satin just seems like the ting with that kind of reflectivity--I have no idea what the fabrics in my reference images are, they just look reflective and crinkle in certain ways.)
This is a brush that jitters saturation and brightness in a tad that looks a bit stripey, and I like it for his vest and their shoes because it feels a little rougher, and sometimes a bit knitted or wooly.
The base texture of both their main pieces of clothing is the same as brush number 2 from the last one, but this time with two colors overlapping one another to give it more depth and make it feel a bit rougher and thicker as material.
So this is brush 1 from the last set, but I’ve made it one color (the light green), copied it and changed the hue to a bluer shade, and then placed the two exactly one over the other, setting the bluer version to Vivid Light in the layer settings. Then you just futz around with the specific color and opacity til you’re happy with it.
The vest pattern is easy. Draw a row of shapes. Duplicate several times. Arrange in rows. If you need to, you can rotate rows a tad to get them to look good when they line up.
I have a celtic knot pattern. For his clothing I set one row of the pattern at the bottom, lowered the opacity, and used a soft brush with the smudge tool at 80% or 90% to pull the color from the top up over more of his clothing.
For hers, same deal but instead of using the smudge brush I set the layer to being some kind of color burn or linear burn in the layer settings and set copies of it in a line so it looks like a repeating texture.
You know all of these by now, they’re the ones that keep coming up and from now on I’m not going to talk about them anymore.
This brush looks like trees! And also I use it for weird cloud patterning on both these guys and the Lakeshore pair.
I made a brush that is dots! It is just a circle with the spacing settings turned up so that there’s distance between them. The dots brush is a fucking lifesaver. It can look like beads or coins or be converted into other patterning. It’s great. A+ don’t know why I didn’t do this earlier.
The last thing I have for you is mostly about layer settings, which I am very poor at explaining, so sorry about that.
I used a watercolor looking brush thickly for the Greyfen to give the cloth a kind of slightly iridescent silky vibe. How the colors work in the other points.
The difference between the blue stroke in the above version and the below version is that the bottom one is on a layer set to Pin Light. I’m not sure exactly what pin light does, but it tends to produce colors that kind of combine the feels of the relevant colors? It’s definitely one to use when you’re trying to make things shade in a way that feels iridescent.
The difference between the purple stroke above and below is the one below’s layer is set to Vivid Light. Vivid light tends to produce brightly saturated colors and I kind of have no idea how it works either. Just futz around with the hue of the Vivid Light layer until you like how things look.
Lastly, the bottom line of dots has been set as a Clipping Mask over the two stroke layers. Because of this, it only shows up where it overlaps those strokes, and I think takes on their properties? So it’s operating like it’s Pin Light over the Pin Light layer and making that weird gold color and acting like vivid light on the vivid light layer and making the yellow green. The Clipping Mask is your best friend because it saves you a lot of erasing and lets you make things transparent along with or otherwise fall in line with whatever they’re attached to.
I hope this was helpful and I’m sorry if it was confusing. Thank you again for your support and your interest!
