I'll use this post as an opportunity to talk about an experience I had in college with a woman whose name I never learned.
I was an asocial weirdo who didn't know how to make friends and often acted like I didn't want them. Soooo any time I had free time from my university job in grad school, I'd fuck off and go find somewhere to be by myself.
One time I was in the first floor lobby of the psychology building, where I also worked. And there this woman there. If I had to guess, I would say she was in her 50s or 60s. I was, I think, only 21 or 22 at that time-- a baby grownup.
I don't remember how or why but we began to talk.
Normally I just got agitated if a stranger tried to speak to me because I don't know what to do, but this was different. She was a genuine pleasure. We talked about all kinds of little stuff. Thoughts and experiences. I remember us talking in length about Game of Thrones, which was still good at the time. She talked about how she loved the series but most people her age didn't watch it so she didn't have many peers to talk to about it. She told me she secretly loved the blood and guts stuff-- I found this incredibly endearing.
She then told me about Broadway plays and the ones she had seen. Because of her I want to one day see a performance of "The Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder." It's something I've not seen yet, but she gave me so many details and she was so passionate and earnest about her love for it that it made me want to see it-- and when I do one day, I know I'll think of her again.
And at some point, one of us had to go-- I can't remember who left first, but it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how we started or stopped the conversation. The point is that it happened.
I never learned her name or why she was even there that day but she lives in my head still-- just a pleasant conversation partner I had one evening in college.
I hope wherever she is, that she's loved and that she's okay.

So, do it. Decide. Is this the life you want to live? Is this the person you want to love? Is this the best you can be? Can you be stronger? Kinder? More compassionate? Decide. Breathe in. Breathe out, and decide.

Finished A Witch's Bible today. I will likely follow up in the future on more books about occult communities in modern day.
For now, my focus is going to shift to All Quiet on the Western Front and the 75th anniversary edition of Mythology by Edith Hamilton.
Then I'll tackle the Communist Manifesto and this bundle I have that collects the Constitution + Declaration of Independence + the Bill of Rights. Figure the Manifesto and the quintessential readings on the foundations of America would make a fun contrast to read together.
