"Naming and Tagging The Biggest Great White Shark Caught On Film Part 2/2" (Please visit my page for Part 1/2) @maestro320 - This amazing footage of Deep Blue's first sighting and tagging is an excerpt from Discovery Channel's @discoverychannel Documentary, "Deep Blue Hunts For Elephant Seals, Jaws Strikes Back". Filmed on location at Isla Guadalupe, Mexico courtesy of our friends in conservation at Discovery Channel UK @discovery_uk and features Marine Biologist, Dr. Mauricio Hoyos @mauriciohoyos ; Shark Expert, Dr. Greg Skomal @gregskomal and Robotics Engineer, Amy Kukulya @capelandialife - 🔵A particularly large female great white nicknamed "Deep Blue", estimated measuring at 6.1 m (20 ft) was filmed off Guadalupe during shooting for the 2014 episode of Shark Week "Jaws Strikes Back". Deep Blue would also later gain significant attention when she was filmed interacting with researcher Mauricio Hoyas Pallida in a viral video that Mauricio posted on Facebook on 11 June 2015. A particularly infamous great white shark, supposedly of record proportions, once patrolled the area that comprises False Bay, South Africa, was said to be well over 7 metres (23 ft) during the early 1980s. This shark, known locally as the "Submarine", had a legendary reputation that was supposedly well founded. Though rumors have stated this shark was exaggerated in size or non-existent altogether, witness accounts by the then young Craig Anthony Ferreira, a notable shark expert in South Africa, and his father indicate an unusually large animal of considerable size and power (though it remains uncertain just how massive the shark was as it escaped capture each time it was hooked). Last night I watched Shark Cam Stakeout on @sharkweek - now that is some quality shark programming that focuses on sharks and not celebrities or wild scenarios like Megalodon. . My boy @gregskomal was tagging bull sharks off of a floating pier in Bimini. I just so happened to shoot some videos of bull sharks from that very same floating pier (Bimini is beautiful and loaded with sharks, by the way). . Prior to this experience I had never seen a bull shark before. I was surprised at how thick they were. Also, they had a lot of remora and other clinger fish for a medium sized shark.
