✦ Hello all! Very new to writeblr, though I've been writing on and off for years now. I go by Lamia. 27, they/she, black.

✦ I write mostly high/dark fantasy with romance themes. Expect a lot of (gothic) horror and (some) science-fiction every once in a while. Enemies to lovers is my bread and butter, angst my drink of choice. Throw in a little tragedy, a few metaphors about the terror of religion, blood, and it's a feast. My writing is explicitly queer and so am I.

✦ Fanfiction and personal works will both be housed here. I am currently drafting a novel with a magic system that uses dragon remains as its primary fuel. Heavily in the research process, might even dabble with conlangs.

✦ I consider my main writing influences to be Anne Rice and Angela Carter. I do an awful lot of reading as well, so feel free to talk to me about anything book related! Some of my other favorite authors are Mary Shelley, Brandon Sanderson, and Holly Black. Please give me all your horror recs 🖤

Hello - I'm Lottie, and I'm making a tentative return to writeblr. I've been here on and off for years but I've missed it and thus am returning. A little about me:

I'm 26 years old, based in the UK and use she/her pronouns.

I'm been writing since I was 15, got my degree in English Literature and then last year completed a Master's in Creative Writing and am about to start my second degree in environmental science (!)

I like to write literary fiction most, but am partial to the gothic and including touches of horror and magical realism. I've also written a little poetry and am looking to return to it as well.

I have two finished manuscripts: one that I'm currently querying and another that's just sitting there and I'm considering getting beta readers for, and then at present I'm not really sure what I want to write now. Both of them are quite different in terms of tones and theme so it's become difficult to categorise what sort of fiction I like to write.

That said, things that tend to come up: the misery of small town England, particularly in the West Country/Cotswolds, country houses, the late 20th Century, queer themes, nature and the environment, and casts of very unlikable people.

I’m also very interested in hauntology and countercultural history.

The authors I'm presently most inspired by are Shirley Jackson, Donna Tartt, Elfriede Jelinek, Bret Easton Ellis, Carmen Maria Machado, Sayaka Murata, William Boyd and Evelyn Waugh, but, in essence, my reading taste is 20th Century Classics.

I’m currently working on what I call for a shorthand “seventies gothic.”

I'm looking to follow some writeblrs - especially litfic writeblrs, and dip my toe back into the community!

(RE)INTRODUCTION

my name is erin (he/they) and i'm a 23 year old neurodivergent and queer writer. i decided it was time for a fresh start again and made a brand new blog.

i spend more time thinking about writing than actually committing to it since i'm still suffering from burnout these days, so snippets will be shared quite irregularly for the unforeseeable future. however, i'm not one to pass up rambling about my wips, given the opportunity.

i'm both ask and tag game friendly, just know that i can be slow to respond to both, so please be patient with me.

My story "It Holds Her in the Palm of One Hand" (aka bird story) is in this month's issue of Lightspeed Magazine!

I'm so excited to finally be able to share bird story. Whenever I write sci-fi, I spend way too long on the speculative biology, and this is no exception. The gastor birds are one of my favorite creations, where I challenged myself to design an animal capable of traveling between planets. I hope you enjoy reading their story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Status: Redraft in progress

Mermaids don't exist. Every agent of the Coven, the organization that researches and governs the supernatural community, knows that. Accepting a classified assignment to investigate sightings along the Broken Coast is just an easy paycheck as far as Isaac Soto is concerned (not to mention another way to avoid dealing with his trauma and relationship issues).

A chance meeting with a charming stranger in a roadside diner changes not only the course of Isaac's assignment but the trajectory of his life. A life now in danger of being cut short unless he figures out how to escape the bloodborn who takes him hostage, a necromancer out to kill both of them, and the corruption at the heart of the organization he thought he believed in.

The Primrose Path

When his village is taken captive by an enemy nation, Illuminator Ân's priority is to make sure his people survive to fight another day. Faced with everything he's stood against as a priest of Cyanos, god of light and life, Ân prays for the strength to overcome and do what he must. It's not long before he receives signs that his petitions have been heard. Just not by the deity he serves.

Sail beyond where the seas turn red, until the sky is filled with unfamiliar stars, to the lands between realities. Magic and the power to leave one's old life behind awaits for those brave enough to seek it.

Beyond & Between is a collection of stories set in the strange places settled by ancient people, deities, and creatures from Earth who fell through the cracks.

Plot: All her life, Crown Princess Anjelika has been prepared to rule as the future Queen of Kosmos, a peaceful island state in the Baltic sea. But when her family is betrayed and the government is overthrown, she finds herself on the run with a rag-tag group of “criminals”. In order to fight for every day of their freedom against the brutal new regime, she must learn who to trust in this deadly game of cat and mouse, where the future - and the hope - of her entire country rests on their shoulders.
