ITALIAN POEMS- LEARN ITALIAN with poetry - PIANTO ANTICO

Nel novembre 1870, Carducci ha un grave lutto: la morte del figlio Dante, di soli 3 anni. Il titolo “Pianto antico” significa che il dolore del padre per il figlio scomparso prematuramente non è soltanto del poeta; esso è primordiale, cioè è sempre esistito ed è antico quanto è antica l'umanità.Il titolo è una ripresa di un canto funebre del poeta greco Mosco (II secolo a.C.) e il tema è il dolore del poeta per la sua perdita, esplicato nel rapporto di contrapposizione tra la mortalità umana e la natura che ciclicamente rinasce.

[1] L'albero a cui tendevila pargoletta mano ,

il verde melogranoda' bei vermigli fior,

[5] nel muto orto solingo

rinverdì tutto or ora

e giugno lo ristora

di luce e di calor.

[9] Tu fior della mia pianta

percossa e inaridita,

tu de l'inutil vita

estremo unico fior, [13] sei ne la terra fredda,

sei ne la terra negra;

né il sol più ti rallegra

né ti risveglia amor .

Riassunto

Prima strofa: il poeta è nel giardino di casa e racconta di quando il figlio era vivo e tendeva la sua piccola mano verso l'albero di melograno dai fiori rosso vermigli per raccoglierne i frutti.

Seconda strofa: nel giardino ora silenzioso e deserto tutto sta rifiorendo e rinascendo alla luce e al sole di giugno.

Terza strofa: ma il poeta è come una pianta sterile, che è percossa e senza acqua perché ormai il suo unico fiore, il figlioletto, è morto.

Quarta strofa: il bambino si trova ormai sotto la terra scura e fredda dove il sole non può più rallegrarlo e tutto l’amore del poeta non può riportarlo in vita.
