a simple what-if
what if green was in hideout for much longer
what if green had been there for a year
what if their crew had tried everything they could think of from splitting into pairs to staying as a group to relentlessly scouring every level but the lower ones because to them nobody could have survived that fall
what if one day they finally repaired weapons and got disguises of their own and found green on the lower levels with the impostors
they would find someone entirely new
they would find a green that puts hisses and snarls into their voice because that's what everyone else does and it helps them blend in
they would find a green that is territorial over their stuff because that was the only way to keep it
they would find a green who resorted to immoral measures, whatever they may be, to keep themselves and glitchy fed and healthy
they would find a green who lost hope on escaping long ago

I'm really attached to the idea of Henry meeting the assassins as a kid SO! I've decided that long before the games events he could meet an assassin(s) as (the child labor stuff was going quite a bit before 186whatever or 1885, whichever fused time this is)
And thus now I ramble <3
Kid Henry and his family are visiting London for a quick vacation (maybe a business trip as well on the parents part?) Henry gets separated from his family and one of the gangs kidnap him to make him work in one of their factories. Obviously this like. 10 year child cant really resist and is Absolutely Terrified. Maybe he's there for about a week? Mayyyybe a month? Until the assassins that probably have an actual group name that I just forgot, drop by and rescue Henry! He's a tad bit traumatized and just witnessed multiple people get murdered, but at the very least they were bad people. The assassins help little Henry reach whatever hotel his family is at and drop him off once they've located them! So now Henry knows these assassins are good! And if that's not enough reason to trust them he also probably wouldn't stop pestering his assassin rescuer with questions lmao
Fast forward years later! Evie and Jacob are on the scene, need whatever potion, and decide to ask local alchemist Henry Jekyll. They do what you said and slighty kidnap him and argue but instead of running away he sorta just sits there until they're done arguing. And is like "Hey I know what you guys are all about, I'll help as long it cant be connected to me and you pay well" (because knowingly being the stepping stone to someone murder deserves some pay. And also he needs it for the society) (also whatever way Jekyll actually said it was no doubt better worded than me XD)
And that's it! I'm tired so im going to sleep after sending this <3 also I got to the point in the game where I hide a dead body and those cops are so annoying. Esp since the ones I knocked out get reset once I die 😔
(I normally just imagine it as 1885 so I can ignore that the Jack the Ripper DLC ever happened and also so I can keep Jacob and Evie young bc I Do Not Like their older designs and my AC playing friend is going to bonk me for saying that </3)
(also side note; the gang Jacob starts is called The Rooks but the actual assassin gang I think is just called... The Order? The Order of the Assassins? I have no idea but ye <3)
Anyways!!! ABsolutely fuck yes I love love lovel ove this yes <3<3<3!!!! Oh my god getting helped and rescued by assassin's might have been a kick start to Henry's morbid interests, like in Bleeding heart he said it would be fascinating to get eaten by a monster, I am sure that being kidnapped and seeing assassins murder your kidnappers at the age of 10 would very much traumatize him and probably kickstart a lot of morbid fascination with a lot of stuff. Now I love to imagine the assassin just... Holding Henry as they jump over the rooftops bc it's quicker and they may or may not have some cops after them, and Henry is just so excited and fascinated and can't stop thanking them and rambling questions and I just want to imagine that the assassin/s are just so patient with him and just <3<3<3
That is the exact scenario I have been imagining for so long you have no idea how good it feels to ramble about it and have other people ramble it TO ME. I also love to imagine that scenario with them (Jacob) just... Knocking Henry out, taking him to the hideout/train, ties him to a chair, waits for him to wake up, Henry wakes up to Evie and Jacob arguing bc jfc Jacob DO YOU THINK HE IS GOING TO HELP US NOW???? They realize that Henry is awake, quickly explain the situation, Henry doesn't have time to answer before Mr. Green or Ned (have you met Ned yet? He is canonically trans and he owns my heart <3) enter the room and it's just the pointing spider man meme bc I really like to imagine Henry being friends with at least one of them, having gone to the same university or smt so everyone is just so confused and then they explain why they needed Henry in the first place and Henry just...
"Y'know, you could have just asked me? What do you think I would do, say no? When you are willing to pay so good for it? Especially since I know what you guys do??"
ANyways Henry becomes their poison supplier, cue shenanigans where Jacob tries to stop by for the weekly supply only to interrupt Henry when he is talking with a Lodger in his office, neither caring at all that the Lodger is seeing them, Jacob just jumping through the open window asking for the supply, Henry tsking and sighing that he has no manners and besides he gave him a supply just a few days ago does he think he just has a tone of poison laying around? Then sighing and admitting that yeah, he does, just straight up lifts up a crate filled with poison, handing them to Jacob, cursing his name when he leaves for interrupting him, then turning back to the Lodger like nothing happened jsdfhjsdfsdf

Connie Howlite Maheswaran AU - The Return
Summary: A giant hand just appeared right above Beach City, slowly descending. Unknownst to the Comet Gems, Connie convinced her father Doug to let her help them, as only she has the weapon that can protect them from any upcoming threat. Unknownst to all of them, they’ll have new troubles to worry about.
Word count: 1,548
---
Connie and Eagle quickly jumped out of a portal made by the latter’s sonic screech. They were close to the Comet Temple, and everything, at least on that part of Beach City, was covered in an ill green light. This has to be the Hand Ship’s fault, Connie thought after noticing that said Ship, which has been descending onto the city ever since afternoon, seemed like it was much closer to the ground than before.
Not only that, but it seemed like, even after Howlite’s canon’s failure to take it down, the Comet Gems were still determined to stop it before it could even come down. Rubellite was there, and so was her two-sided mace, held by her lower pair of hands. “Fire!” Spessartite commanded.
Rubellite immediately proceeded to generate pink-and-white balls of energy, and bash them with her mace’s sides so they could clash full-force at the Hand Ship. It was like a more intense, four-armed baseball swing being performed multiple times. And yet... The ship didn’t even seem a tad bit fazed with the fusion’s offense, much to Rubellite and Spessartite’s horror.
“Stay here,” Connie said, with focus and determination, towards Eagle. “Hopefully, dad won’t need a new daughter.” She continued before rushing up ahead.
While hopelessly watching the Ship increase its speed, Spessartite remarked, with a little shard of hope, “At least Connie’s not here.”
“Except I am!” Connie pointed out, making her presence clear.
“Connie?” Spessartite gasped in shock. Rubellite didn’t even have a chance to utter a word. As soon as she spotted Connie, she violently split herself apart, back onto Pink Pearl and Jasper, who fell face-first onto the sand.
“You really returned!” Jasper exclaimed in a tone that wasn’t clear if she was shocked or overjoyed.
“Kid, get outta here right now!” Pink Pearl demanded desperately as she got up, but before Connie could fully protest, Spessartite spoke, “Connie, get behind any of us!”
Connie reluctantly obeyed, going right behind Spessartite herself, but kept a head out to observe as the Hand Ship descended, creating a heavy sand cloud around the Comet Gems. The Hand made an “offering” motion, and a bubble popped out of the Hand Ship’s palm. It rolled before opening, revealing three figures.
Two of them were familiar; Aquamarine, the small Gem trapped in a crystal ball that Connie befriended; and Nephrite, the Homeworld Gem that was sending Robonoids to spy on Earth’s activity. The new one, however, was strange.
She was very mildly similar to Jasper, only much smaller. Around Connie’s height, in fact. She had a long mane of hair, a purple gem with a hexagonal cut on the chest, diamonds on her knees, and a cape on her shoulders.
“Here, these are the ones who… K-Keep breaking the stuff I make…” Nephrite nervously explained as she and the other two Gems walked forward.
“Really? That’s them?” Amethyst said, not that impressed; her voice was slow and casual-sounding.
“Yes, they are, Amethyst! T-they’re messing up everything!” Nephrite explained, trying and somewhat failing to sound a bit more assertive.
Amethyst sighed and stepped forward. Her face had a scowl not too unlike a school bully, bored enough to seek a new victim to terrify, but being unable to find one that interested them.  “Oh boy… another stupid thing to deal with. Hey, c’mere!”
The purple gem pulled out Aquamarine from behind her grasp, through her hand, but the small gem quickly escaped her grasp. The small blue gem gasped once she realized her half-human friend was actually there.
“Aquamarine...” Connie whispered in surprise.
“Is this, like, their secret hideout?” Amethyst asked, pointing at the Comet Temple.
“Yes...” Aquamarine replied, with a mixture of reluctance, misery, and disdain for the situation she found herself in.
“You all must leave right now!” Spessartite demanded, tightly holding her scythe.
“Yeah! Better scram now, punks!” Jasper joined in, already preparing her crash helmet.
“This ain’t a planet run by Gems!” Pink Pearl exclaimed, her toy-like hammer in her hands.
Amethyst and Nephrite hopped out of the finger they were landing on. Aquamarine was forced to follow, being held on by an entire arm of the purple gem.
“Seriously? Howlite’s not here?” Amethyst said, after doing a quick scan of the opposing gems. “Man, I was hoping to meet her in person! I was sure I could beat her down.”
Connie growled a little after listening to the purple Gem talk about her mother. She’d try to contain it to not get their attention, though.
“But those are her most loyal soldiers?” Amethyst mocked. “A shameless display and an ownerless Pearl? Only the soldier’s prolly worth something! Wait... The heck is that?”
The Comet Gems immediately straightened into fighting positions, ready to fight till’ poofing for their beloved girl.
“I-It’s a Connie... A-At least, they call themselves that.” Nephrite explained.
“She’s not one of them at all! Just a normal human!” Aquamarine lied, in hopes of protecting the only one among the Comet Gems that was her friend.
Amethyst just looked at the little blue gem with an unamused expression before turning back and walking away. “Eh, too easy for me to care about. Just zap them out.”
“O-Okay!” Nephrite said before, reluctantly, commanding the Hand Ship to stand up and prepare a laser beam directed at the Comet Gems.
“Connie, run and save yourself!” Spessartite begged.
“Never!” Connie defied Spessartite’s plea valiantly.
“I can’t let you sacrifice yourself!”
“But you guys are my home, and my family! I can’t leave you behind...”
Connie’s slightly big forehead Gem shone brightly in white, as the tip of her staff poked out of it and the half-Gem girl pulled the rest of it out.
“G-Go.” Nephrite quietly said as the Hand Ship finally fired its beam out of its pointer finger.
“Because, I am too a COMET GEM!” Connie roared bravely as she ran towards the beam and hopped towards it, pointing her staff towards it.
...
Amethyst turned around in genuine shock after witnessing it.
A big wall, crafted with hard light in white color, protecting the Comet Gems. The one responsible for it was apparently the “normal” human Connie, sweating as held onto the staff to keep the barrier up.
“It can’t be... That staff is real!” Amethyst gasped.
Connie collapsed, drained mentally and physically as she allowed the barrier to collapse and the staff to fade away.
“That kid has Howlite’s power!” Amethyst finally realized.
“N-Now you see w-why they sent an escort, right?” Nephrite said, in a friendly but insecure tone.
“Swipe them off of her!” Amethyst commanded.
Nephrite was quick to obey, creating a linear projection beam that separated Jasper, Pink Pearl, and Spessartite from Connie. The explosion lifted a heavy cloud of sand that Connie struggled to even wipe her eyes clean from.
“Why you look like that, Howlite? I thought you looked better.” Amethyst said; at surface level, it seemed like mockery, but deep down there was some curosity as of why she didn’t see the tall, imposing, long-haired Howlite of the legends.
“Don’t touch her!” Aquamarine furiously demanded.
“Ya set me up!” Amethyst accused.
“But that wasn’t even part of the mission!”
“Screw that stupid mission!”
“W-WHAT?” Nephrite gasped in shock.
“Blue and Pink have to know about this one.” Amethyst added out with a sharp, cat-like grin.
Connie tried to summon up the strength to defy or even question those Gems, but she could only moan in confusion, while sitting down defenselessly. Then, Spessartite rose up from the sand, scythe ready to rip apart anyone that dared hurt Howlite’s daughter.
“Now the party starts!” Amethyst announced while summoning her weapon; a whip of three strings with diamonds emblazoned on its tips.
Spessartite tried to go in for a clean slash, but Amethyst tripped her and summoned a second whip to throw Spessartite and Connie away in a single blow. The half-Gem got up in time to see a particularly nasty of events.
“CONNIE, RUN!” Spessartite pleaded one last time right after a quick recover before rushing towards Amethyst.
“Gem Destabilizer time!” Amethyst cheekily announced while holding a strange device with yellow shockwaves.
She quickly stabbed Spessartite in the chest with the destabilizer, almost impaling her. Yellow lines ran over her body as, limb by limb, it collapsed. Jasper and Pink Pearl gasped in horror, while Connie could only helplessly watch as the de-facto leader of the Comet Gems looked at her with her three eyes, before poofing and leaving two gems behind. One orange, one red.
After packing the Gem Destabilizer back as if she just swatted an annoying fly, Amethyst approached the weakened, but traumatized and furious Connie. “I wasn’t there to fight for this trash planet, but I heard lots of stuff about you. How you are smart, a strategy devil... But this is just stupid!” She said, before wrapping her up on one of her whips, ignoring her last valiant struggle.
“Let her go!” Pink Pearl demanded as she and Jasper ran to try and pulverize Amethyst before anything could happen to Connie.
“Don’t think ya can do anything now, Howlie! Your friends are scrambled, your base is dust, so admit it! You lost!” Amethyst announced, right as the situation’s stress plus Connie’s drained mental and physical energy purged her into unconsciousness.

Nightwing x Reader: Mockingbird’s Betrayal (Part Four)
Summary: Dick Grayson and Mockingbird’s last meeting ended in a heated argument, seemingly snapping every connection they ever had. He was Mockingbird’s last light to cling onto, but now, her sanity is left in the dark. After capturing Avia, Mockingbird exposed everything the Justice League and her former team had been hiding from the rookie. It almost instantly turned Avia against them, and the plan was set in motion. Nightwing isn’t prepared to face Mockingbird again, especially not after their last encounter. How much did she change since then?
Word Count: 3156
Warnings: Angst (duh), swearing, fighting, i think some blood mention? But no one dies; I would have killed someone this time, but I wanted to get this out ASAP for y’all. I’ve kept y’all waiting for too long!
A/n: Oh boy. I started this really early, but we’ll have to see if it takes months again.
UPDATE: Lol it did, my bad
Avia stared up at her bedroom ceiling, thinking about everything that went down in the past seven days. Getting captured by you, learning that everything everyone told her was a lie, planning to turn on them like you did.
“Mockingbird is a cursed name.” Avia thought. First you, now her. Your name became hers, and your name brought betrayal.
Every movement made her wince. You knew how to cover up your tracks well; they had no idea they were being tricked. However, Avia didn’t like that you had to rough her up a bit to make it look convincing, and she especially regretted letting you break a rib.
Due to your brief observation lessons, Avia slightly noticed that Batman was keeping a very close eye on her. Avia acted just like she did before, but that was a misstep. At her age, she should be at least traumatized or have nightmares. She should be wary, have some sort of fear or should be avoiding certain things. But none of that happened. It was like you never touched her.
Batman knew this and caught onto it fast. When he wasn’t protecting Gotham, he was constantly trying to figure out your course of action. It didn’t take him long to know Avia was going to join you, but he couldn’t bring her in or detain her just yet. Batman needed to find out when and how it was going to happen, first. Thinking about it so much almost got him punched in the face while fighting criminals.
He would never admit it out loud, but you specifically always had him alert and on his toes. You always left him one step behind, with one puzzle piece missing, not knowing what was going to happen next. More often than not, it infuriated him. At any point in time, you could start attacking the citizens if you couldn’t get to any of the heroes and their “sidekicks”.
On top of that, Batman had no doubts that the reason you turned so violent and angry was because of the wild animal DNA. It changed the color of your eyes for Christ’s sake, nothing else could do that unless you became a witch when no one was looking.
Previously, Justice League members made various suggestions on how to stop you. Imprisonment wasn’t a simple task and any normal prison wouldn’t keep you in for long. Arkham, maybe, but not forever. Keeping you in suspended animation would work, but it was more difficult that it sounded.
But, no matter how permanent the solution was, Batman refused to let them kill you. He immediately shut the idea down. “No. Under no circumstances are we going to kill her.”
“Look, Batman. I don’t want to kill her either, but do you really think she’s going to stop until she’s killed multiple teens? And I have no doubt that she will, at some point, go after Black Canary,” Superman argued, “Mockingbird has already confronted and attacked the team, and even took down Superboy with Kryptonite she stole from your safe. What is stopping her from hacking into it again? What if she finds another way to hack into Mount Justice and the Watchtower? The last thing I want is for her to be dead, but what if that is the only way to stop her? We need to be prepared for the worst.”
Batman refused still, “The only conclusion I can come to as to why she is still in this state is because of her wild animal DNA. The sheer rage has clearly been preventing her body’s trances that control the DNA, judging by how the last trance she had in Mount Justice lasted for two hours. I have gotten it back under control before, and I can do it again. The formula is still in my possession.”
“How the hell are we supposed to inject her with it?” Black Canary asked urgently, “It’s not like we can just knock her out! She knows how to avoid all of us and finding her is nearly impossible.”
Before Batman could respond, Green Arrow spoke up, “Nightwing was really close with her, right?” His observation was correct. The Justice League went silent and he continued, “Maybe Mockingbird will trust him enough to give him the chance to inject her with it?”
Batman agreed; Green Arrow’s idea was sound, and Batman already knew you had visited Nightwing. How else would he have known where Avia was? And he knew the bruise Nightwing got just after you disappeared wasn’t from crime fighting. He didn’t doubt that it was from you, but he had yet to confront Nightwing about it. The real question was why you hit him.
Batman took a moment to ponder, as did the other heroes in the room. It was a plausible idea, and was better than any other plan they attempted to come up with. It would end with you not getting hurt in the process, and would stop you from harming anyone else. There was an actual chance for the plan to be executed successfully.
“That seems to be our only option.” Zatanna said with a forlorn expression. “We will need that formula as soon as possible, Batman.” Her heart was heavy for the whole meeting. You didn’t hold her as close as you did with your original friends, but you still spent a few years on the team with her. Whether you would harm her was questionable.
“This is best best we can do without casualties. We will meet again once I finish the formula.” Batman said, and the meeting was done.
The heroes dispersed soundlessly, all of them with troubled looks on their faces. Dinah, however, looked broken and she moved the slowest. Oliver stayed by her side.
“Look at what I’ve done,” Dinah whimpered, “this is my fault. Everyone was right. I shouldn’t have done this.”
“It’s not entirely your fault, pretty bird,” Oliver used the endearing petname to comfort her. “We’ll get through this. We’ll stop (Y/n) and help her be okay again.”
Dinah shook her head and tears welled up in her eyes. “You know how violent the DNA can get. Avia told us how bad it is now; I’m positive that she isn’t in control anymore,” the first sob escaped. “If we can’t help her regain control of it, someone is going to die. And it might not be her.”
Everything was ripping her apart all at once, and she all but collapsed in Oliver’s arms. They sunk to the floor as she cried and cried. She took you in as her own when you were 12, traumatized and given powers you never wanted in the first place.
You learned to embrace and love your powers under her watchful eye and guidance as her first protege, the daughter she never had. It seemed like saving you and preventing casualties was merely wishful thinking.
-
You moved your hideout back into the basement of your childhood home. You found a way to make it easier to move all of your tech back and forth, and you had a few duplicates in your other hideout in Minnesota. You observed Avia in the Cave closely, and you also caught on to her behavior. You understood why she messed up--she was only 13 and had hardly any practice--but that made things a lot harder.
You spent half of your nights holding your head in yours hands, sometimes screaming and crying at the mental torture the wild mockingbird DNA was inflicting on you. You knew what was happening, but that consciousness was held back, almost permanently. Almost. The other half of your nights were for planning, preparing, and training. You thought of tons of different obstacles and events you would need to escape, avoid, or fight. You trained until you were sore, studied battle styles until your eyes burned in need of sleep, and you allowed yourself to fall into trances that were far too brief.
Your old team had little to no hope left for you. They held on for so long, but they realized that you were more than likely too far gone to help. They could barely remember the (Y/n) (L/n) they met so long ago. Happy, determined, devoted to the team, inspiring, and a dear friend. Now you were almost completely the exact opposite. They feared you--feared for their lives if they ever came to face you in combat. Many of them were terrified to confront you.
You still didn’t know Artemis wasn’t dead, but she heard about everything. After a certain amount of time, she became numb to everything related to you. Your name fell on deaf ears, both hers and Kaldur’ahm’s. Out of everyone, surprisingly, they had the least amount of hope. They didn’t believe there was anything anyone could do to help you. The only solution they believed in was to capture you and keep you contained, even if it meant suspended animation on the moon. Yes, you were a dear friend, but an even bigger threat to everyone.
Wally was just done. If anyone had anything to say about you, he wouldn’t hear it. He wanted nothing to do with you or the situation as a whole. If Dick even so much as spoke your name, Wally would tell him to stop talking or get out. He didn’t want to hear about the Mockingbird who was broken down to an evil, ruthless individual. He wanted to remember you as the old (Y/n). He wanted to remember your smile, your shenanigans, your kindness, and the hero you used to be.
-
You stared at the monitor with gritted teeth. After hardly any time, you knew Batman noticed how Avia was acting, too. You chucked a knife across the room with a shout and a curse. The blade pierced the wall, so only the handle was visible. The time window got a hell of a lot smaller, possibly forcing Avia to make her decision sooner than you told her to. It made you angry at her, but more angry at yourself. You should have told her to act the part of a traumatized 13-year-old girl, but you forgot. You originally thought it was common sense, but you knew that wasn’t fair.
“God damn it!” You snapped at no one and started to attach gadgets and weapons to your utility belt and back. You needed to go talk to her, let her know what happened, and ask her to make her choice right then and there. You watched the cameras until you saw her go home, so that became your destination.
But you didn’t see that Arsenal followed her.
You were one with the shadows of Star City, where you spent a great majority of your time being Mockingbird--back when you were good--and when you first became a hero. Dinah and Oliver hadn’t moved in more than a decade, so you knew the address by heart.
In no time at all, you were perched on the roof; a mere few feet away from Avia’s open window. Half a second before you stepped forward, you heard another voice, not Avia’s. Arsenal.
You quirked an eyebrow and got onto your stomach to blend in with the dark roof. You tuned out all other noises and instead focused on their conversation.
“Avia, I can’t take this,” Roy sounded so conflicted. “I haven’t felt this way and I hate it, but I can’t just push you away.”
Oh.
“I-I have feelings- wait, no, I-” he couldn’t find the right words, and you felt sympathetic. You were in a similar situation not too long ago: Being in love with someone you might betray.
Avia shushed him. “Roy...”
He sighed. “I know you don’t feel the same way, I don’t know why I even said it-”
“Shut your mouth and let me talk, redhead!” Avia got his attention and he did what she said. “I have feelings for you, too,”
You cringed hardcore when you heard them kiss. You were convinced that it was an awkward kiss, but that wasn’t what you focused on.
Your eventual protege pulled away from Roy with a small and bittersweet smile. There was a sad and apologetic look in her eyes; it concerned him. She had to tell him. She had to tell Roy about you and what she was going to do--what her reason was for leaving.
“Avia, what’s wrong?” Roy asked, completely out of character. “Did you change your mind? Am I not good enough?”
She looked even more sad after his questions. “No. You’re more than good enough, and I haven’t changed my mind... But you’ll change yours.”
Your eyes narrowed on something you saw in the distance. Way in the distance. You touched an almost invisible button on the side of your mask and used it to zoom in drastically. After many attempts, you focused on the approaching figure. Then you almost broke your mask.
Batman. And he was headed your way. He had a gut feeling that it was going to happen that night, and he was correct.
“Why would I change my mind?”
“Because I’m leaving!” Avia had to get it out before it was too late. “Everyone lied to me! Mockingbird didn’t leave for power!” She turned away from him and punched the drywall, her fist going straight through it. “She told me everything. She has proof, she uncovered all of their lies! I can’t be with the people I was supposed to trust!” Avia clenched her jaw as guilt started to choke her. “Mockingbird understands me and what I feel. She was treated like shit and lied to, too.”
It took a moment, but then Roy understood what she said. He took a step back in disbelief and his heart shattered. “You mean you’re betraying us?” Roy wanted to wake up from that nightmare. “You’re going with Mock-”
You chose that moment to swing into the window and you landed on your feet with a loud bang, not bothering with subtlety. “Is she going with Mockingbird? Yes, she is,” you stood to your full height with a face of stone. You looked menacing and it scared Roy, not that he would ever admit it. “because you all lied about me. Do you regret it yet?”
“I’m sorry, Roy,” Avia’s heart was hurting terribly. “I’m so sorry.”
You heard the woosh of a cape and your irritation spiked. “We need to go!”
Batman came through the same window you did, ready to fight. he wasted no time in going after you, and he was ready to take on Avia as well. He knew Roy wasn’t going to be able to do it because of how strong his feelings were for her.
You dodged one of Batman’s punches and you hissed, “Avia! Knock him out, now!” You hoped your sheer fury behind it would prompt her to get her ass moving, and it did.
Batman was barely landing any hits; the team wasn’t the only ones you studied. While he had more experience and more fighting tactics, there was hardly a move you missed. However, you weren’t perfect. The occasional punch to the jaw left you a little disoriented and getting punched in the stomach tended to knock the wind out of you.
You then elbowed Batman’s face and then kicked him square in the chest. It briefly knocked him off balance, giving you time to choose a voice--someone close to him. Alfred.
Before talking, you looked back at Avia and Roy. Sure enough, Roy was out cold, but Avia was sitting against the wall, completely distraught, but understandably so. You were definitely going to discuss that with her later on.
Batman wound up to deliver a brutal hit, but he froze when you shouted, “Bruce, no! Please don’t do this, this isn’t you!” in Alfred’s voice. Bruce knew full well that it wasn’t actually Alfred, and that it was actually you manipulating him, but you still got to him. Alfred practically raised him and had been by his side for everything. Just the thought of hurting him-
That moment of hesitation was what gave you and Avia the chance to get out of there, leaving two unconscious heroes on her old bedroom floor.
 -
Days passed after Dick got the news that Avia left with you. Of course you convinced her to betray the team, too. He honestly wasn’t surprised. He knew Avia was being lied to, and he didn’t want any part of it.
“Mockingbird is a cursed name.” Dick thought solemnly. Both Mockingbirds turned their backs on the team, but somewhat rightfully so. He wasn’t going to allow another hero have the name “Mockingbird” ever again, no matter who wanted it.
Dick simmered for hours and hours, angry that you took Avia, angry that she left, angry that everyone let it happen. He once again didn’t interfere, and look at where that got him. He was angry at you, Avia, the Justice League, himself, the team, and the world. No one deserved any of that to happen.
After a certain amount of time, he had enough. Dick knew you were occasionally in Bludhaven, so he was going to find you. He was too furious and hurt not to. That feeling didn’t fade as he put on his suit and his utility belt. He clenched his jaw so much that it hurt. His knuckles were white from how hard he was gripping his escrima sticks.
Dick traveled from roof to roof, trying to catch a glimpse of you somewhere. It wasn’t shocking that you were practically impossible to find; you were nowhere in sight. But Dick searched and prowled the city, turning over every stone and checking every shadowed corner. Nothing. No one.
He let out an anger-fueled roar, “Come out, Mockingbird! I know you’re there! Stop hiding and face me!” Dick probably looked like a crazed man on an acid trip, but he didn’t care. All he cared about was finding you and knocking you onto your ass.
You didn’t show.

My Thoughts on “The Enigma”
Because I have a wonderful friend who gave this to me on my birthday and because I finally have a PC that’s good enough, I played the first episode of Batman: The Telltale Series - The Enemy Within yesterday, it’s titled “The Enigma”. And it was awesome!
Warning: SPOILERS ahead!
So what’s the plot?
After the events of season 1, Bruce had picked Wayne Enterprises back up and Batman’s been working with the GCPD to keep Gotham’s streets clean. One night, the Riddler, after a long time of absence, reappears in the city and crashes a casino. He takes revenge on an arms dealer, who’s gambling there, over a deal they had. Batman saves the man but Riddler can escape - not without leaving a riddle box behind though. Amanda Waller and her agents from The Agency show up at the crime scene and demand to form some sort of cooperation between Batsy, the GCPD, and them. Gordon’s not amused.
Batsy takes the box with him and finds out that it can turn into a disc that gives off a weird sound. The next day at WE, he has Lucius take a look at it. Tragically, a missile hits Lucius’ office and he dies. The noise the disc had given off turns out to have been a homing signal for the missile.
At the funeral, Joker shows up and asks Bruce to meet some special friends of his. They think Bruce would make an excellent addition to their group. Later, Batman and Gordon check out the place Riddler’s hiding at.
At the hideout, they find one of Waller’s agents who had been killed by Riddler’s death trap there. They find out that Riddler has a hit list of Waller’s agents and plans to turn their phones into homing beacons to kill them all. Riddler appears on a wall of TVs and expresses his hatred towards The Agency, blaming them for turning him insane. He also mentions Lucius which makes Gordon suspicious. He questions Batsy about it later and Batman admits that Lucius was an ally of his. Gordon, again, is not amused but decides to keep the info to himself.
At this point, we can decide if either Batman should interrogate Riddler’s right hand or if Bruce should talk to the arms dealer about the deal they had. I chose the Batman approach and scared the living SHIT out of that dude! He reveals Riddler’s and the missiles’ location: a cargo ship in Gotham Bay.
Batsy goes there and finds three more agents as Riddler’s hostages. He can free one of them but gets trapped in an extra cage with her. After enduring Riddler’s trademark questions and some audio torture, Batsy is able to redirect the missiles Eddie’s sending towards Gotham into the bay, save the agents (although the female agent is now deaf), and take down Riddler.
However, while Riddler rambles on about how his friends have betrayed him, a poisoned dart hits his neck and kills him. All Batman can make out is a shadowy man on the bridge. Later, the GCPD and Waller investigate the scene. Due to my choices, Gordon’s trust in Batman is shattered and he breaks off his alliance with him while Waller praises Batsy. She says that they will work closer together in the future and, to Batman’s shock, she calls him Bruce Wayne.
What an amazing start to a sequel!
The first thing I have to get out of my system is that Bruce’s clipped ear constantly distracts me! Moving on.
I really appreciated the episode’s length! I remember that the pilot back then was maybe 1h / 1h and a half but this one was ca. 2h and a half! So much was going on!
The contrast to last season’s theme is extremely intriguing: the first season was about Bruce’s past, his family and legacy, if everything that made him who he is was a lie. This time, however, it’s about the present, about how he does things, who he works with and who he can trust. And I assume they’ll also introduce the question if Batman rather attracts Rogues instead of getting rid of them.
We are introduced to new characters: I loved Lucius’ daughter, she was so cool and her hair has an amazing design. I have the feeling that she’ll become our new Lucius or Oracle or whatever. By the way, losing Lucius was quite a dramatic scene and I was shocked that they’d do that! Waller was impressive and untrustworthy as always. The “reveal” at the end wasn’t a big one to me. I mean we all know she knows Bruce is Batman, it was only a matter of time till the game revealed it. And Riddler was great! I admit I was missing Wally Wingert because he’s become THE Riddler to me ever since the Arkham series hit the world. He’s to Riddler what Kevin Conroy is to Batman. Also the design was strange. The mask and hood made him look like an adult version of the rape result shit stain.
I was a bit disappointed that they killed him off this early on, I had hoped he’d have a much bigger role, like Penguin or Harvey in season 1 while Joker would turn into the main villain. But at the same time... I don’t really believe that he’s dead... I can’t believe it when I think of the prison’s name we saw in some footage earlier. And the green stuff in the poisoned dart...
Which brings me to my predictions. We see three shadowy figures in the next episode’s title card (btw I think they shouldn’t have made the title cards so spoiler-y). The characters look like Hugo Strange (or Mr. Freeze?), Bane (hinted at by the prison’s name and that makes me think they shot Riddler with a Venom dart), and Harley Quinn (she has a mallet and Waller also shows us a photo of Dr. Quinzel).
I think Joker’s role will increase more and more, he’ll probably be the man behind everything in the end, he’s the leader of those special friends he and Eddie mentioned, and the last episode’s title card shows us Batman fighting him.
Batsy will also have to deal with repairing his relationship with Gordon, Lucius’ daughter, take care of a traumatized Alfred, and get Waller off his back. AND Selina will come back in episode 3, something I AM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO! I actually replayed episode 5 of the first season to repair my relationship with her. I don’t want her to return and still be pissed at me!
Speaking of decisions in the game... Oh boy, at the end of the episode, I felt so awful. I felt like I did everything wrong. People I cared for hated me, people I hate think I’m one of them. Almost every time I picked one thing I immediately regretted not picking the other. It made me an emotional mess.
I hope things will get better over the curse of the season because if not... I’ll cry. A lot.
Highly recommend season 2!
One last thing though: the female agent had nice green eyes which made me even madder at the fact that they couldn’t give Selina green eyes. What the fuck is SO FUCKING HARD ABOUT THAT??? Just give her green eyes! Cat-like eyes, she’s Catwoman, make her eyes fucking green!!! UGH!
