Scorching Era Dragon Species
(Headcanon, until canon confirms or disputes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🔴 Mountain Dragons
Based on dragons described in The Flames of Hope, pages 186-187.
The Mountain Dragons were the most common species of dragon on Pyrrhia. They inhabited the entirety of the central mountain range. Their scales tended towards warm colors like red and orange, but it was common to see other colors on them. Dragons at this time were far more likely to hybridize with other species as a result of their overlapping ranges and lack of formal society. They were one of only two species that possessed firebreath. Their diets consisted primarily of large ungulates, but they were opportunistic and would eat anything.
Mountain Dragons could be classified into two populations. The Northern Mountain Dragons were distinguished by their brighter colors and diurnal lifestyle. The Southern Mountain Dragons by contrast were darker, with more black scales as an adaptation for a more nocturnal or crepuscular lifestyle.
The Scorching was led by one large Northern Mountain Dragon (The Flames of Hope, page 186, see above image) who would become the first queen of the first dragon tribe, which would be known as the Skywings. Mountain Dragons made up the majority of the early Skywing tribe, but Forest Dragons were also common within their ranks.
The Southern Mountain Dragons, however, would not stay in the Skywing tribe for long, instead forming their own tribe, the Nightwings, and keeping their nocturnal lifestyles and building their own society around it.
Hundreds of years after The Scorching, the Skywings, under the rule on an ambitious queen, would start a conflict with neighboring tribes over territory. This would be known as the War of Skywing Expansion. The war would see the Nightwings pushed out of their mountain territory and the tribe would find a new territory on the southwest peninsula.
Tumblr media
🟡 Stone Dragons
Based on an obvious Sandwing ancestor in The Flames of Hope, page 183.
Stone Dragons lived around rocky areas and caves at the base of cliffs and mountains. They were an offshoot of the Mountain Dragons, distinct only in their much paler coloration, back sail, and venomous tail barb. They usually possessed flecks of black scales. Their venom evolved independently of other species. Diets consisted of anything they could catch.
After The Scorching they were the first to colonize the newly formed desert that once housed a large human civilization. Other species would try to colonize the area, but as temperatures got more extreme, only the Stone Dragons would be able to adapt. Their descendants became known as the Sandwings. This species has remained virtually unchanged since The Scorching.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🔵 Sea Dragons
Sea Dragons are mentioned in The Flames of Hope page 181. Page 185 states they couldn't breathe fire.
Sea Dragons were semiaquatic, coming mostly in shades of blue and green. They lived on the eastern coast, on islands and beneath the ocean. They had specialized gills and kidneys that allowed them to tolerate a wide range of salinity levels. They had bioluminescent spots along their body used for communication. This species did not possess firebreath. Their diet consisted of fish and pinnipeds.
While a majority of Sea Dragons lived in the ocean, there was a small population living in freshwater rivers and lakes on the southeast coast, sometimes referred to as Swamp Dragons by local humans. They were more on the greener side than their marine cousins. They ate fish and whatever animals they could ambush from the water.
During the War of Skywing Expansion, some Skywing defectors would flee their kingdom and find refuge in the southeast with the Swamp Dragons. After the war they would eventually form a new tribe together, calling themselves the Mudwings.
The Seawings would be one of the earliest tribes to form. They’ve remained virtually unchanged since The Scorching.
Tumblr media
🟣 Ice Dragons
Ice dragons were the most isolated species of dragon. They were fully adapted to Pyrrhia’s northern tundra and possessed frostbreath in place of firebreath. Their diets consisted primarily of fish and pinnipeds, but would hunt anything if the opportunity presented itself.
After The Scorching the Icewings would be one of the earliest tribes to form. They’ve remained unchanged since The Scorching. This is, of course, a point of pride for the Icewings. It is unknown if Animus Magic had appeared yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🟢 Forest Dragons
Based on Freedom, with the caveat that Freedom is a Mountain/Forest hybrid. The dragon described in The Flames of Hope, page 186 is heavily implied to be her mother.
Forest Dragons were a species adapted to an arboreal lifestyle. They were brightly colored and came in all color combinations, and had rounded wings. They possessed venomous fangs in place of firebreath. They made their nests in the trees. Those living in the southern rainforests were primarily frugivores and were much more colorful, while those in more temperate forests were more omnivorous, eating anything they could find, and had greener scales. They would often take naps in the middle of the day to gain energy from the sun. Leafspeak was a rare ability possessed by some individuals.
The Forest Dragons would give rise to three tribes after The Scorching. Those already adapted to the rainforest would form their own tribe, the Rainwings. The Rainwings would independently evolve their color changing ability over time.
Those best adapted to temperate forests formed their own tribe, the Leafwings. The Leafwing tribe happened to have the most Leafspeakers within their population, which they enthusiastically integrated into their agricultural practices.
During the War of Skywing Expansion, the Leafwing tribe would be forced out of their territory and would eventually make their way across the ocean to a new continent, Pantala.
One isolated population of Forest Dragons had already been evolving some odd traits by the time of The Scorching, such as a second set of wings and silk glands. This population evolved on the southwest peninsula, and would form their own tribe, the Beetlewings.
During the War of Skywing Expansion, the Beetlewings would be forced out of their territory by the Nightwings, who would then take over the peninsula as the Beetlewings joined the Leafwings in their exodus from Pyrrhia into Pantala.

Prefers neutral colours to complement his hair, also wears a Hirdiellese mask with a four-pointed wine-coloured star painted in the middle of the forehead
Status: Dead (DOD: 4 Primna 1865)
Abilities: Shadow manipulation, proficient with ice magic
Background: As the only child born to the noble Ilagorta house, Emmet was raised to be in charge of his family affairs by the time he was 60 years old and was groomed to be one of Balwirk's next generation of leaders. When he turned 103, he was acquainted with the Domanra family and developed a relationship with Eva, their second daughter and made plans to marry after they turned 150
In 1149, there were whispers of a radical group of elven researchers who sought ways to preserve life even after their heads had been severed from the neck. As a leader, he was expected to investigate deeper into this issue. During his investigation, he received an anonymous tip to investigate the Sofénaiths which he followed through. Before he could properly investigate, he was knocked out and woke up to the sight of his body, his neck severed and with a bright cyan flame blazing out from it
The researchers then cheered at their first success, carving a 1 onto the back of his left hand all while covered in blood and surrounded by dead bodies, much to Emmet's horror. While restraining him with magic-draining chains, the Sofénaiths explained that they were trying to find a way to cure both their daughter and Gerald's illnesses, and they were truly apologetic that a high ranking noble would be part of their experiment
Leaving him trapped in a room, he could only spend his days attempting to free himself from his chains. Many years later, Gerald joined him, threatening to kill his own father the moment he escaped. The first thing Emmet noticed was the tree branches that came out of the Fourth Dullahan's neck, green flames adorning the tips. Emmet attempted to calm his new 'roommate' down, but was attacked by Gerald and in the process, Gerald had managed to tear his skin off using nothing but his teeth. In response, Emmet tackled him and thus marked a period of uncomfortable silence until Brianna and Cain joined
He then learnt that Brianna was their newest survivor, which angered Emmet as it meant that countless of lives were lost in order for the survivor count to reach nine. He had also learnt from Brianna that both Charles and Eva went missing shortly after him, which made him feel responsible for their unknown fates. Eventually, they were able to escape thanks to Addyson stunning the researchers with her sound magic. He was then reunited with Charles and Eva, who had both survived the experiment
After they killed the researchers and ended the experiment, they kept the notes and studied it despite their distaste towards the entire act. Aileen was able to identify the flaws in the research notes, which cultivated in the alarmingly high mortality rate. Together with Eva, Hywel as well as Ilias' existing research on arcane magic, the trio was able to create a ritual that tapped onto Ratein's ley lines which made it safer to turn someone into a dullahan. Afterwards, they destroyed the original notes such that no one could ever attempt the cruel methods used to create dullahans again
Brianna and Danielle then pointed out that the very notion of turning someone into a dullahan was unthinkable, and sought to get an unanimous consensus that under no circumstances should the 16 turn others into dullahans unless the individual in question was prepared to bear the curse of being one. Emmet wholeheartedly agreed, not wanting such an incident to ever happen again
While his family welcomed both back with open arms despite being dullahans, public opinion towards them were unfavourable and they were forcibly stripped of their nobility. He tried to convince the other noble dullahans to appeal to the public, but their appeals fell short. He was also surprised to learn that the Domanras started to oppose his relationship with Eva due to their dullahan status, but didn't publicly disown her likely to present themselves as family-oriented despite the 'unfortunate circumstances'. They decided to go ahead with the marriage and were considered officially married on 24 Secuna 1206
For the next few centuries, Emmet spent his time running a soup kitchen for the socially disadvantaged in Balwirk, regardless of species. He was very aware that his wife was turning numerous beings into dullahans, but said nothing about it as he trusted that she did it for sympathetic reasons. However, when news of dead dullahans started to surface, he had to question Eva to ease his own worries. When she denied knowledge of the killings, he started to wonder if Gerald, who had a strange fixation towards his tree, had something to do with the killings. At one point, Eva shared that while captured, Berine was unusually firm in insisting that Cain had something to do with the experiment. While troubled, Emmet decided that it was best to chalk things up to coincidence and focus on helping the Balwirkians
In 1694, news of Hywel's mysterious death reached Balwirk followed by Finbar's death in 1701 and Dylan's in 1702. This troubled him as it was starting to resemble a hunt for all the original dullahans, but didn't have time to process his thoughts properly as the Balwirkian War raged. During the ambush on 18 Rexim 1706, he caught Gerald siding with the Unois Empire and confronted him about it. While he merely wanted to immobilise Gerald with his ice magic, the Fourth Dullahan was determined to kill him by all means necessary, forcing him to fight him to the death and coming out victorious. Before freezing and shattering Gerald into many pieces, the latter laughed and said that he regretted not tearing Emmet's entire skin off his face. He added that Emmet was a fool for failing to realise that Cain was the reason why the Unios Empire became what it was then
Emmet decided to apologise to Gerald for everything he had to endure ever since he developed the fatal Respiratree Disease and shattered Gerald. With the war lost, all he could do was to retreat and hope that majority of his fellow dullahans were still alive. He then fell through a teleportation portal that he recognised to be Hugh's, promptly dropping him into a room where Danielle and a fatally wounded Eva were. Using her telepathy magic, she informed him that Cain was the reason why the empire was created, supporting Gerald's final words. Danielle then explained that due to the wounds Eva suffered, yon was unable to heal her and she didn't have long to live. Emmet understood and decided to stay by her side until she passed four days later in 22 Rexim 1706
He had informed the Domanras about Eva's death but was shocked to discover that they had disowned her the moment their marriage was officialised. With no one to turn to given that his own family died in the war, he could only continue with the soup kitchen especially since West Balwirk saw an influx of East Balwirkians. In late Secuna 1758, he received news that the Domanras had been murdered, with a letter addressed to him insisting to not look further into their deaths and accept it. Emmet, fed up with all of the secrets both friend and foe seem to have, decided to organise peaceful protests against the Unois Empire in hopes that Balwirk will unite once more
In 1764, Giselle had approached him and tried to get him to spearhead violent protests, something which he was reluctant to after recalling the Balwirkian War. He only caved in eight years later in 1772 after Addyson informed him saying that due to his popularity and a hidden weapon stash that Finbar hid, many Balwirkians regardless of side were extremely willing to take violent means to get their point across
Due to the high number of rebels, Emmet's soup kitchen was eventually unable to accommodate full scale meetings and had to move into the orphanage in 1838. Able to plan in a relatively safe location, the rebels were able to unite East Balwirk, Crex, Lindow and Nantrax together over the years but still weren't enough to go against the empire's military. The turning point came in Dia'ae 1863 when Noah suddenly returned to Relnivon in his true form and caused mass destruction within the country
Due to the sight of a free wyvern openly rebelling against the empire, the dragon captives followed suit, which started a domino effect that led to the Relnivians to openly rebel against the empire. West Balwirk had also seized this window of opportunity to launch another rebellion against the empire, forcing the Unois Empire to divide its resources against three fronts. In order to advance, Emmet, Giselle, and Addyson entered Relnivon to provide the Relnivians with support, which meant working alongside Noah
After Giselle's death in 31 Dia'ae 1864, Emmet worked harder to organise more rebellions so as to further dismantle the empire's power, which resulted in him getting drunk on more than one occasion to take the edge of. This led to the accidental reveal that Gerald had also betrayed the dullahans during the Balwirkian War, though the only being who knew about it was Berine, who pretended that he said nothing about the topic
On 4 Primna 1865, he and Addyson had managed to corner Cain, who was prepared to kill them both at the cost of his own life. Despite their best efforts, Cain proved to be a competent fighter despite his inability to use magic. Emmet, who wanted to capture Cain alive so that he could face his misdeeds, attempted to freeze him the same way he did to Gerald. However, in the midst of freezing Cain, the latter had detonated a bomb that would kill everyone within range. Realising that Cain had never planned to leave the war alive, he decided to freeze himself along with the Eighth Dullahan in an ice prison in hopes of containing the explosion...

It's Free Comic Book Day in Australia! I decided to wait an extra week to pick up my orders from the last month (04/23) so there are also some from this week mixed in.

Firstly I want to shout out to Secret Headquarters Comics in Beaconsfield, Victoria. They are incredibly nice and helpful and I've been amazed with them since I started going there.
First mix up was that I didn't realise they had prior years' free comics up with the new issues. So when I said " High Republic Adventures and pointed at the one I saw with that title it turns out I picked the issue from 2021.
Tumblr media
Which is frustrating as someone who is trying to grab all of the Avatar stories and there's supposed to be a new one in the HRA comic this year!
Also I had ordered My Little Pony Vol.1: Big Horseshoes to Fill but they accidentally left it out of my subscriptions. I have a receipt and have emailed them so hopefully it'll be sorted soonish.
I wanted to get a physical copy of Spider-Man 2 #1, the prequel to the upcoming game, but that seems to be US exclusive. I'll have to import it.

There was no way that anyone, including  creators Len Wein, Roy Thomas, John Romita, and Herb Trimpe could have foreseen how this runty little Canadian with an attitude (actually introduced in the last panel of Hulk #180) would become one of the company’s breakout stars, but someone up there thought enough of the idea to spotlight Wolverine over his green-skinned host in this ad."

Exploring Inverness Florida: Where Downtown Waterfront Parks Shine
Tumblr media
A pair of limpkins balanced on a tree branch over a sparkling blue lake with edges laced in flowering yellow pond water lilies. Spanish moss hung in a softly swaying curtain around the long-legged birds. Around them, the sounds of cicadas joined in a heated chorus, and beneath them, an alga-encrusted cooter turtle paddled in the water. A pair of limpkins find a shady perch by Liberty Boardwalk Trail. Photo by Sally White All this nature exists only a short stroll away from the historic downtown of Inverness, Florida. Known as Citrus County’s ‘Small Town Done Right’, the City of Inverness coexists with green space and local parks that showcase this region’s outdoor beauty. Three of the City of Inverness waterfront parks, Cooter Pond, Wallace Brooks, and Liberty are located downtown on the Inverness throughfare of the 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail. The Withlacoochee State Trail is Florida’s longest paved multi-use recreation trail, stretching from Citrus Springs near Dunnellon to Trilby in Pasco County. Three Amazing Waterfront Parks to Explore in Downtown Inverness Florida Cooter Pond Park The first Inverness waterfront park we explored is Cooter Pond Park. The cooter is a type of turtle and they are prolific here. Instagram gets littered with pictures of the boardwalk trail traversing the 25-acre pond in front of the local Citrus County Sherriff’s Office. With views of the dome of the historic courthouse in the view from behind, visitors can stroll along the boardwalk, built in the early 2000s, and see cooter turtles, bluegills, wading birds, and alligators.  Flowering water hyacinths provide shade and refuge to aquatic life on the sunny Florida days at Cooter Pond Park. Photo by Sally White. Water hyacinths decorate the pond with clusters of purple flowers bursting among the green, their shady floating islands making the ideal refuge for fish on a hot sunny day. In the distance water spraying from a fountain makes the perfect pond centerpiece. A paddle launch at Old Mills Road invites the adventurous to launch their kayaks and canoes for a paddle through the pond, but many visitors prefer the .07-mile boardwalk hike. There is a shaded pavilion near the US Highway 41 South entrance, but otherwise, this is a full sun walk. The .07-mile boardwalk trail around Cooter Pond provides ample opportunities for viewing the local wildlife near downtown Inverness. Photo by Sally White A thick swathe of marsh and cattails separates the trail from the Sheriff’s office and helipad, but if you stop to look, you may spot wildlife among the cattails.  Park near the Cooter Pond boardwalk entrance of this county park to enjoy this walk. This park is open from sunset until dusk and fishing is allowed. In the evenings the boardwalk is lit up with rainbow-colored lights making for a unique visual experience. Cooter Pond Park is located at 181 US Hwy 41 South in Inverness, Florida The 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail cuts through the center of Wallace Brooks Park on Lake Hernando near Inverness' downtown. Photo by Sally White Wallace Brooks Park Wallace Brooks Park was named in 1968 in honor of Wallace Brooks, the oldest African-American citizen of that time and an industrious resident who worked for the Atlantic Coastline Railway of Inverness.  It is one of the most relaxing Inverness waterfront parks to visit. With a boat ramp, boat house, and fitness training area, Wallace Brooks Park is an integral part of Inverness’ green space. Nestled along the curve of Lake Henderson, the 422-acre Citrus County lake and part of the Lake Tsala Apopka chain of lakes this local park features water activities. Boaters launch their boats and anglers cast their lines here in hopes of catching a prize-winning largemouth bass. Pit-stops on the Withlacoochee State Trail, the waterfront parks of downtown Inverness are bicycle friendly and there are ample bike stands to use while you are exploring the parks. Photo by Sally White. Wallace Brooks Park is only 6 minutes away from Cooter Pond Park, a short 0.3 hike or bike ride, although parking is available here. Restroom facilities are on-site as well. If the water calls you, take the Liberty Boardwalk Trail from Wallace Brooks Park to the adjacent Liberty Park.  A shaded boardwalk path leads you along the edge of Lake Henderson and through a swamp of cypress trees. You can enjoy vista views of the lake, or take in the cypress knees and water lilies beneath the boardwalk shade. You may spot turtles and wading birds and even an alligator or two. Wallace Brooks Park is located at 321 E. Dampier Street in Inverness, Florida The scenic and shady Liberty Boardwalk Trail along Lake Henderson joins Wallace Brooks Park to Liberty Park. Photo by Sally White Liberty Park If you happen to have children with you, the call of laughter ringing in the air might make you leave that boardwalk trail to visit one of the coolest playgrounds around. The bright colors and Seussical-looking equipment of Liberty Park Rotary Centennial Playground can bring out envy in adults as their kids scoot down the chutes and climb up the ladders with a sense of wonder.  Another of the six Inverness waterfront parks, Liberty Park has a more urban feel. Four-acre Liberty Park uses the beauty of Lake Henderson as a backdrop. With rolling greens inviting picnics and impromptu frisbee and football games with friends, this sunny environment invites all to simply relax. The Liberty Park Rotary Centennial Playground has got to be the coolest playground in the area. Photo by Sally White The annual Great American Cooter Festival (now called the Cooter Music Festival) has been held at Liberty Park since 2004. This year they’ll be cranking up the tunes October 4 - 6 to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Parking and restroom facilities are available at Liberty Park. Liberty Park is located at 268 N. Apopka Ave in Inverness, Florida. The Train Station, located by the Liberty Park Playground is the place to go for coffee, ice cream, and snacks while you're out enjoying the waterfront parks of Inverness. Photo by Sally Whtie The Train Station at the Depot District Exploring these three Inverness waterfront parks can make a person hungry or thirsty and when you didn't bring a picnic, head over to the Depot District for a snack and indoor fun at the Train Station. You can grab a coffee or ice cream and play a game of duck-pin bowling, ginormous connect-four, or corn hole at the centrally located Train Station behind the playground at Liberty Park. The newly renovated historic train station was originally built in 1892 as a stop for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad.  The Train Station is located at 218 N. Apopka Ave in Inverness, Florida The Depot Covered Market The Depot Market holds bi-monthly farmer's market events on the first and third Saturdays of the month under the covered shade. Photo by Sally White If you follow social media about Inverness, you’ve probably seen pictures of the Saturday Farmer’s Market at the Depot. The Depot is literally steps away from Liberty Park Playground and adjacent to The Train Station. Stop by for fresh produce shopping at the covered Depot market on their farmer’s market on the first and third Saturdays of every month from 9 AM to 1 PM. On Saturday, September 14, 2024, there is a Citrus County Business Expo put on by the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce. NatureCoaster helped sponsor the event and we will be there with free area maps and NatureCoaster stickers. The Depot is Located at 300 N. Apopka Ave in Inverness. Three parks and a day full of outdoor adventure. What are you waiting for? Add these downtown Inverness waterfront parks to your getaway list today! Israel-Palestine Conflict
The attacks were unprecedented in tactics and scale as Israel has not faced its adversaries in street battles on its own territory since the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. According to ALJAZEERA, The eviction of 750,000 Palestinians in 1948, the Nakba, is a crime that Israel and the world have yet to atone for. What else could anyone possibly call all the massacres, razed homes and theft of land but a catastrophe? That catastrophe — the Nakba — occurred 75 years ago, when Zionist militias drove 750,000 Palestinians from their homes, an act many describe today as ethnic cleansing. In late 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 181 to partition Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, with just 33 votes in favour. Palestinians rejected the UN’s partition plan as an obvious violation of Palestinian rights, and warned of the coming devastation. (It didn’t take long for the killings to start.) On March 10, 1948, the Zionist Haganah paramilitary adopted Plan Dalet, which laid out a strategy to ethnically cleanse Palestine. A month later, in the village of Deir Yassin, Zionist militias killed more than 100 men, women and children — one of several massacres that served to terrorise Palestinians. On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion declared the creation of the state of Israel, which led to the first Palestine-Israel war — and a massive refugee crisis. Zionist forces would go on to capture 78 percent of Palestine, with the rest divided into what are now the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.Today, the Nakba continues with forced evictions and near-daily killings of Palestinians, committed by what many see as an apartheid state, all while the rest of the world stands by and watches.Hamas is an Islamist organization with a military wing that emerging in 1987 out of the Muslim Brotherhood, a Sunni Islamist group that was founded in the late 1920s in Egypt. Militant from Gaza fired thousands of rockets towards Israeli towns on October 7, before breaking through the heavily fortified border fence with Israel and sending militants deep into Israeli territory. There, Hamas gunmen killed more than 1,400 people, including civilians and soldiers, and took 199 hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Hamas is an islamists Organization, The group like most Palestinian function and political parties, insist that israel is an occupying power and that it is trying to liberate the Palestinian teritories. Israel responded, According to Ibrahim, Hadas, Gold, Lauren iszo, Amir Tal, Abeer Salman, Kareem Khadder, Richard Allen Greene and Hande Atay Alam, CNN. It is rare for Palestinian militants to be able to make it into Israel from Gaza which is sealed off and heavily watched by Israel’s military. As the day unfolded, the IDF said it was fighting in 22 locations, later adding that its operations has seen “ground and aerial forces thwarted hundreds of terrorists in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip and southern Israel.”They both want the land, Palestinians say restitution laws in Israel are unfair because they have no legal means to reclaim property they lost to Jewish families in the late 1940s in what became the state of Israel.Drawing on biblical prophecy and history, the Jews have centred much of their attention on the religious city of Jerusalem, which Muslims and Christians also revere deeply. The Temple Mount in the heart of the Old City is the thorniest bone of contention, housing some of the holiest sites in all three religions. The recent attacks have escalated as a response to what the Palestinians perceive as Jewish settlers trying to grab a firmer foothold in the Old City and eventually take over complete control — a fear symbolic of the decades-old religious tensions that have drawn battle lines between the two communities.

The Netherlands Newsletter
As you know, The Netherlands was formerly just known as Holland & the inhabitants were and still are Dutch. It was/is known for its canals, tulips, windmills, bicycles & dykes pushing back the sea.
First impressions of Amsterdam.
A few streets in the Amsterdam centre are teeming, bustling, multicultural, tourist areas with predominantly young people so I feel right at home!
This section of the city seems to have a party mentally and remains open until 1am. As a result, it takes a while for everything to open up again the next morning and does so somewhere around 10am.
The winding streets in the older part of the city are very appealing and some houses are noticeably leaning/sloping forward at a very acute angle.
With so many tourists, in these particular streets, near some canals, the rubbish bins & the daily rubbish collection are inadequate as they can't keep up. Consequently, the litter/garbage overflows onto the streets and never seems to be completely removed.
It's summertime here but the 9am temperature today was 14° with a top of 21° at 3pm.
I am presently visiting an ex colleague, Anno, with whom I worked in Siem Reap, Cambodia & Bangkok, Thailand. Anno is living in Groningen which is 181 kms north of Amsterdam and 40 kms from the Wadden Sea (Zee).
Groningen is a university city and as such has over 50,000 students who dwell in and share public housing which abound in the city.
Just out of the city are beautiful larger houses with big grounds and gardens.
Recently we visited a model village called Winsum and then the Wadden Zee, the most northernly point of the Netherlands.
The dykes are now high mounds covered with grass growing over them and bike tracks running alongside them.
The word 'politie' in Dutch is not the word polite which one may think. It is actually police.
I drew some cash from an ATM and was unbelievably charged 21%
The population of The Netherlands is 17,861,351 and the country has an area of 41,850 km² square kilometers compared with Viet Nam 331,230 km².
26% of The Netherlands is below sealevel.
In spite of the size of the country, the north of The Netherlands has a large land mass where all the farming is carried out.
Instead of making a salad, various kinds of a ready-made one can be purchased at the supermarkets. This is especially handy for individuals.
Long grass is permitted in parks and in the streets so-as-to provide safe, undisturbed areas for animals and insects. Snakes aren't prevalent here.
Bike tracks used for motor bikes and bicycles alike are everywhere here, in and out of the city. The bike trails are sprayed with a maroon coloured paint covering the tar (bitumen) and often run alongside of both sides of the roads. When there is a green light for bicycles, bikes from all directions of an intersection are allowed to proceed at once.
Electric power lines are underground.
The country 's natural gas reserves comes from Groningen and in six years earned €363 billion.
Well that's all for now folks.
Regards,
Russ

Go nuts!!
Answers below!
1 - How are you? Altogether, I'm doing alright. Today was a very stressful and exhausting day, but I made it through and now I get some time to just relax. 11 - Have you ever dyed your hair? Oh my god, yeah. Until very recently my hair had been consistently dyed since I was about twelve years old. The last time I shaved my head, I decided to let it grow in the way it naturally is (auburn in color) 13 - If you could change your eye color, would you? I wouldn't! I have green eyes and it's one of my favorite things about myself. 26 - Something you are working on right now: Honestly? Taking time for myself and just existing in my body in the present. 30 - What do you think you’re really good at? Writing ^^ 39 - Do you sleep with a stuffed toy? I do! He's a stuffed tiger from Build-A-Bear. 63 - A quote you try to live by: Be Kind. Do good. 69 - Leave me a compliment: I don't want to sound shallow but you're??? really freaking pretty Sass. No kidding, I always get excited when you post a pic because you've got killer makeup and fashion.
72 - What’s your favorite band/singer? Right now, I've been really revisiting my love for Steven Suptic's voice via his music under the SUGR? name. 83 - What is your favorite flower? Daisies~ 85 - What is your favorite season? Autumn!
101 - Where would you like to live? I would honestly love to either be back in the northeast (Boston I miss u) or in the PNW. I have family in Idaho so Washington state would be great (relatively close by but not in Idaho) 102 - What would your dream house be like? This always confuses people, but I actually don't ever want to own a house! I'll be content to rent for the rest of my life. There's something so reassuring to me about the possibility of picking up roots and moving when I want to. 105 - Top three places to visit: I have no idea. I'm so used to road trips with my family that I don't have a list of places I'd love to visit, nor do I have a list that I enjoyed visiting all that much. Always museums though.
108 - Who is someone you never tire of? My darling best friend Kay. 109 - Do you have someone you can be your complete self around? Nope o.o 111 - Is there anyone you can tell EVERYTHING to? Kay, for sure.
127 - What is the first thing you noticed in someone? Fashion sense. 129 - What’s the most superficial characteristic you look for? Hand size 149 - Say five ways to win your heart: parallel play, watching shows with me, check-ins, respecting boundaries, words of encouragement for literally anything 153 - What’s the sweetest thing anyone’s ever done for you? A guy I knew my senior year of high school realized I never had any food and started bringing me lunch every day because he liked cooking and cooked meals for his family every night.
181 - How often do you listen to music? More than I don't listen to music. 182 - What kind of music you like? It's all over the place. I listen to a lot of kpop (2nd-4th gen), I listen to stuff from the emo/pop punk 00s vibes, I listen to some general indie singer-songwriter stuff, I listen to Broadway. 188 - Put your music player on shuffle and write the first ten songs that play: Shake It Up - Super Junior, U - Super Junior, Gold Dust - Changmin, Beautiful Monster - STAYC, Fallin' Down - DinDin, These Drugs - Sugar Pine 7, Outlaws of Love - Adam Lambert, If the World Only Knew- Joshua Colley, Don't Let Me Know - Smash Cast, Eat Your Young - Hozier 190 - Describe your dream library: Natural lighting, not overwhelming in its presence, little nooks to curl up in and read, options for paper, audio or kindle
195 - If you could be any character, from any literary work, who would you choose to be? There's this book I read when I was a kid called the Westing Game. Turtle has always had a soft spot in my heart. 208 - 5 things within touching distance: My pillow (zebra-striped pillowcase), my switch (lite, salmon colored), my stuffed animal (tiger, Hobi, he/him), my Kugrash plush in my window, my phone 213 - If you met me what would you do? ask for permission to give you a hug!
219 - Do you consider yourself lucky? What’s your good luck charm? I don't! I actually consider myself to be unlucky most of the time ehehehe
230 - Are you a procrastinator or do you get things done early? It depends on what the thing is, but I'm actually generally a 'get things done early' type. 234 - Something that you’re proud of: I'm published!! 264 - One thing you’re excited for: My brother and I just got approved for an apartment together and I'm excited to move in with him. 265 - Describe the most terrifying/strangest/beautiful dream you’ve ever had: We had to keep dream journals in one of my fiction classes, so I can actually copy directly from when I had it the first time- "
I’m aware it’s a dream, and that my actions have control over everything else. In some ways, this godly power gives me anxiety; what if I fuck up? What if I hurt someone in my dreams? Will I hurt them in real life? Will they know?
I stand in a theater, an auditorium, and I look out at the rising seats. Red in color, dark red, bathed in darkness. Outside, somewhere, sirens wail, ascending and descending, growing closer and further, as though the concept of distance doesn’t truly exist. Like they’re driving in circles. Or rather, like the sirens are moving in circles without them; I don’t hear engines.
I hear birds chirping and whales singing and I can feel their loneliness in my bones, itching, crawling on my skin, and rolling around in my skull, bouncing like a DVD logo. Their loneliness echoes my own isolation in this theater, putting on a show for patrons I cannot see, with a script I do not know. The papers in my hand, appearing as I look, are blank; I need to write my own show on the spot, but if I do not entertain then it will be my own downfall, embarrassment and shame, that are the entertainment for the cruel patrons playing the game."
