Summary: Morro does a little magic trick for Lloyd!

Warnings: None

Prompt: Day 2 - Wands | Illusions

Extra: An AU where Morro doesn't die, but rather gets extremely injured so he returns to the monastery. Also he meets Wu like 5-10 years before Wu recruits any of the ninja. Set in season 1 after Lloyd joins the ninja, but before Lloyd's revealed as the Green Ninja. I'm making Morro give everyone nicknames, so Lloyd is sometimes referred to as "Lulu".

"Be safe, Ninja," Wu said as the four ninja leaped from the flying ship with some 'whoops', their weapons transforming into vehicles as they fell. The other four on board, Nya, Wu, Lloyd, and Morro, watched until the color-coded ninja were out of sight.

"Are you sure you don't want me tailing them? You know they aren't the most careful, Sensei," Nya asked.

"Yes, I'm sure. I believe Jay has been… skimping out on his work on the Bounty, and you are the only other knowledgeable person on this ship on the inner workings of it," he replied. "Now then, I must meditate."

Morro watched as his sensei went inside. Nya sighed in disappointment as she stomped over to the control center to fix whatever Jay had left haphazardly unfinished. Lloyd groaned and slumped onto the railing of the airborne ship.

"Careful, a fall from this height could be a doozy," the elder cousin joked as he walked over, forearm crutches clicking on the old wooden deck.

He ruffled the blonde locks cut into a crude bowl cut, much to Lloyd's dismay, as the young blonde swatted away his cousin's scarred, calloused hand playfully.

"So what's got ya down, Lulu?" The wind master gazed at his usually hyper counterpart with concern.

"I jus- this is all my fault!" he yelled, frustratedly slamming his fist onto the railing. "I was the one who freed the Serpentine, I was the one who caused all this! An- and now the Ninja have to clean up after me, and I… I can't do anything to make up for it!" Droplets stung the corners of the blonde's eyes, throat seizing as he shoved his face further into the sleeves of his black hoodie.

Oh, Morro thought. In hindsight, he should've seen this coming. "No, Lloyd, this isn't all your fault. Well, yes it's mostly your fault-" Lloyd's wince did not reassure him that what he was saying was right. Well, sue him, he's shit at comforting people. "But you're not the only one to blame. You were sent to a school that idolized bad behavior and 'evil' acts, so when you were cast out you'd obviously want to prove yourself to them."

Morro locked eyes with his cousin, stormy grays of violent winds and gentle breezes to bloody reds. "But, you are making up for it. You obviously regret it, and jump on every opportunity to help right your wrongs."

Lloyd broke contact, mulling over his cousin's words.

"Besides, every great hero needs a tragic backstory and motive to be good," the gray eyed man joked.

Alright, Morro thought while looking at the blonde still sulking over his mistakes, that didn't work.

An idea sprung into his head, and the wind rustled in response, which peaked Lloyd's curiosity. As he peered over his sleeves, some sheets of origami paper glided over to the pair, then started intricately folding themselves into shapes. The younger watched, awestruck as the patterned papers formed into butterflies and birds and dragons. One even rolled up tightly into a wand-like stick, then handed itself to Morro. Once the papers finished folding themselves, a few instruments arrived as well; an acoustic bass guitar, a flute, and a viola levitated patiently, as if waiting to be conducted.

Morro slowly raised the paper wand, Lloyd watching the tip like a cat watching a laser pointer, then swung it down, then left, then right, then back up and repeated the pattern. The origami creatures swayed in dance slowly as the instruments began to play themselves. The bass strummed steadily, the viola bowed itself with a melancholy sound, and the flute hummed in harmony with the viola. The butterflies fluttered carelessly, the birds soared in simple patterns, and the dragons pranced along the railing.

Then, the bass froze, and the viola's sound became tense and angry as the dragons lunged after the birds and the flute quietly trilled high notes, adding to the new panicked sound. The butterflies flitter and dodge out of the way of the speeding chase between the birds and dragons. The bass struck back in harshly with firm chords, and the birds were cornered. The viola and bass softened and quieted down as the flute played a sorrowful, legato melody with the butterflies spinning above the dragons and beleaguered birds.

The butterflies dove, whacking the dragons away from the avian origami, in sync with the viola bowing out a high note. The bass struck chords as the dragons fought back, the flute and viola playing in harmony with each other as they struck together to beat the dragons.

The bass played an apologetic solo as the dragons lowered their heads in submission to the other creatures. The birds and butterflies accepted the dragons with a sweet trill and a few harsh notes from the flute and viola, respectively. The three types of origami beings then whirled together as the instruments played happily. Morro ended it with flair as the viola played a complicated lick, the bass belted one last chord, and the flute whistled with intense vibrato.

The elder dramatically threw the wand into the air as the paper origami settled to the deck, and the instruments returned from whence they came. Lloyd marveled over the display as he clapped.

"That was so cool! How did the instruments play by themselves? Did you use string to make the paper things move? Could I do that?! That was awesome!" He exclaimed, motioning his hands to accentuate his point.

Morro chuckled at his cousin's perkier mood. "It was all a little wind, Lulu. Nothing more."

Lloyd's eyes sparkled, an even deeper amount of respect growing for his black and green haired cousin. "That was just your powers! But… how? All those moving parts, I could never keep track of all of them! And you can play instruments without touching them? How long did that take? Isn't it suuuper hard to learn?"

"It's just years of practice. Wu taught me how to play the flute so I would be able to play the Sacred Flute, and I picked the bass and viola up because string instruments sound cool."

"I thought it was called a violin?"

"That's a different instrument. A viola sounds lower than a violin."

"Ohhhhhh. Cool!"

"Yes, very cool.

• Jay always tries to include everyone cause he knows how it feels to be left out

• Nya gets surprised whenever a fan comes up to her, it's usually little girls or pre-teens girls but she doesn't mind

• Lloyd loves it when really young fans come up to him cause he gets to hug them, and they're like super tiny

• Nya and Lloyd steal the hoodies of the others cause that's part of being a sister/wife/girlfriend and little brother

Hi so got any ninjago x reader recs? Ever since reading Wisps, it has affected my brain chemistry and now i crave for more ninjago x reader content but im picky when finding fics, so got any recommendations?

Hello there! I had fun sorting out my bookmarks and history so recommending fics might be a thing in the future?

Just to note, I am not sure how to really curate your taste so most of these are what I essentially enjoyed reading and been a fan of so forgive me if some (or all 😭 no hard feelings though) aren't your thing.

Let's see...

Honestly Wisps is the *best* so far in my opinion! I don't know if this is pure coincidental but I am also hunting for some ninjago fics to feel emotions again lmao! And I tried my best in remembering what I've read or interested in so hope these are all ok for you!

+ Second best in my opinion is the 'Infinity Series' by Joos according to their quotev because at ao3 it's orphaned [ao3; quotev book 1 & book 2 ]

Unfortunately, the author has stopped updating this fic but going back at it was really enjoyable like in the Wisps. The summary according to the first installment 'Infinite Serenity';

"[Name] has died and became reincarnated in a childhood TV show of hers. She is raised as the adopted daughter of Sensei Wu, training as the Master of Infinity. Once the plot of the show really gets going, a being resurfaces from her. They claim to have revived her and can help her unlock the memories from her previous life. Now, [Name] must rely on this being to help protect Ninjago, and discovers how her past connects with her present." TW: Suicide, self harm, child abuse, some gore and swearing (please pay attention to the tags)

Please please heed the trigger warning, I don't remember much from the content but I definitely recall the author tackling those tags in a respectful way. The love interests are Kai, Nya, Jay, Cole, Morro and platonic with Master Wu and her cousin Lloyd Garmadon. Again, second best recommended fic in my opinion.

+ Next one, this is not one series but user Circus4APsycho8 (they have ao3 and tumblr) in my opinion have the best x reader one-shots from the fandom! My all-time favorite work of theirs is 'Secret Someone' [Highschool AU! Lloyd Garmadon x reader]- this one is really sweet ❣️

+ The next one is purely Lloyd Garmadon x Female Reader titled 'Butterfly Effect' by samsea at ao3. I think they're still updating and I am a big fan of hero x civilian pairings and just they're cute and in love.

Summary: "If it was up to Y/n L/n, she would read the summer away, lost in history books and adventure novels, finding excitement in their written words. Meeting Lloyd Garmadon changed her plans. Suddenly, Y/n is living a life she'd only read about; summer romances and cotton candy dates. Perhaps this was a new normal she could get used to. Again, heed the warnings but the writing and atmosphere overall is really sweet and for some reason all cuddly and sunny. IDK but maybe I am always soft for Lloyd lmao.

Actually, while finishing my school projects I'm also checking out from another user snazzilystoopid's ninjago recommendation. So far, I am enjoying their second recommended which is 'Element of Wishes' by yourfavoritecloud at quotev BUT this one is an Character x OC one so if it's not up to your alley they have few recommendations. Honestly, I am up to anything as long as it entertained my monkey brain.

Sorry for the long post! Hope these works are okay for your taste but the closest fic that gives off the same vibes as Wisps is the Infinite series. And these are all by my own opinions and the fics I remembered catching my eye. I am very much open to other recommendations or shout-outs.

Side note, there's not much Ninjago fics out there that I might let my monkey brain loose and create one myself LOOOL.

incompete drabble from the we're all dead here au that will probably never be finished. I was going to add a lot more but lost motivation and my wip list is kinda full right now so :/

Lloyd was a strange child. That was a fact of life. Nobody was quite sure how exactly he was strange, but he simply was. The sky was blue, the ocean was salty, Lloyd was a strange child. 

Lloyd himself knew this as well. He did not enjoy talking to his peers at school, instead wandering around on his own during recess and looking at things that caught his interest, such as a particularly large beetle, or a bright red maple leaf, or the little ants that marched along the pavement. The teachers would look at him and tell him to go make some friends, to which he would say “no thanks,”and walk away.

On this day, a lovely August afternoon, Lloyd was running through the park away from his cousin Morro, who had been given the task of watching him for a few hours.

“You’ll never catch me!” Lloyd yelled. He ran past an old lady walking her dog, nearly knocking her over in the process, and slammed into a bench.

“Whoah, kid, you okay?” A voice asked. Oops, Lloyd thought. He must have bumped into some innocent person who’d been sitting on the bench. 

“Sorry, sir,” Lloyd said. His head was still spinning from his fall.

Silence, and then some strangled noises. “You can see me?” 

“Huh?” Lloyd looked up at the person. He was older than Lloyd, at least high school age, with spiky brown hair and freckled skin. There were large, angry red marks on his face that resembled burns. And he was transparent and glowing. That was strange.

“Why are you glowing?” Lloyd blurted. Then he regretted it. It was probably rude to ask that sort of question — what if it was a sensitive topic?

The boy laughed. “Because I do,” he said mischievously.

“Are you a ghost?” 

“Yes.”

Lloyd’s eyes widened. “Really?”

“What else would be bright green and glowy?”

“A glow stick?”

The boy hummed. “I’m not sure what a glow stick is, but sure.”

“They’re sticks,” Lloyd told him seriously. “You crack them and then they glow. They come in lots of different colours too.”

“Sounds interesting,” the boy said.

“What’s your name?” Lloyd extended a hand. “Mine is Lloyd.”

The boy smirked. “Kai,” he said.

“Your name is Kai?”

“Yes.”

“That’s a cool name,” Lloyd declared. He had never heard that name before, but it suited this boy.

“LLOYD!” Morro came barrelling up to the two. It had taken him a surprisingly long amount of time to catch up. “You can’t just run off like that.”

“But I wanted to play tag,” Lloyd pouted. “And I made a friend! This is Kai,” he gestured to the older boy.

Morro frowned and looked at Lloyd. “There’s no one there.”

“No, he’s right there!” 

Morro looked over at the bench again. He could not see anything there. But children were known for having active imaginations, so he nodded and said, “well, say goodbye to Kai, then. We have to go home.”

“But I don’t wanna!” Lloyd exclaimed. When else was he going to meet another real, live ghost? Well, perhaps not live, exactly, but still a ghost.

“Listen to your brother, kid,” Kai said.

“He’s not my brother, he’s my cousin,” Lloyd told him.

“Cousin, then. Listen to your cousin, okay?”

“Can I see you again, though?” Lloyd looked at Kai hopefully.

“Sure.”

“Okay,” Lloyd said defeatedly. He grabbed Morro’s hand. “We can go, but only if we come back tomorrow.”

Morro sighed. “Fine.”

“Bye! See you tomorrow!” Lloyd waved at Kai. 

Kai waved back, and the next time Lloyd turned around he was gone.

“Remind me again why you woke me up at 3AM to go with you to Kwik Trip?”

“I want candy and I ate the rest of my stash this morning.”

“I know that. I just wanted to know why the method of waking me up you chose was flicking cold water on my face. You could’ve just shaken me.”

“Awww, but where’s the fun in that?”

“You little-”

Of all the things Morro could be doing at 3AM on a random Sunday, walking to Kwik Trip was somewhere near the bottom of his list. Number 1 was sleeping.

“What if someone notices us and calls the cops? We look pretty suspicious,” he said.

“We’re literally the ninja, we can just tell them we were on a mission. And when did you become so paranoid?” Lloyd asked.

“Since my baby cousin thought it was okay to wake me up in the middle of the night on the weekend and drag me to the gas station to replenish his candy stash. You could’ve just done this in the morning.”

“I’m not a baby! And I want candy now, my cravings can’t wait ‘til the morning.”

“You’re younger than me and have a candy addiction, you’re a baby,” Morro stated.

“Ugh, whatever. We’re here. Do you want anything? I’ll buy, since you so graciously came with me of your own free will.”

“Shut up.”

“Guess you don’t want anything then,” Lloyd said, and started walking away.

“Hey, I didn’t say I didn’t want anything!”

“Okay, well go pick something out then.”

Morro looked around. Energy drinks were out of the question, since he wanted to be able to make the most of the night after their little outing was over. He could get something from the hot spot, but he wasn’t really that hungry. Then, his eyes locked onto something.

Perfect.

He made a beeline over to the smoothie machine, and pulled out the largest cup. Might as well, since Lloyd said he’d pay. There was a piece of paper taped to the screen of the machine, but Morro paid it no mind and tore it off so he could see the whole screen. It was kind of glitchy, but it still worked. He made his choice, stuck his cup in the slot, and walked away. He wanted chips.

Lloyd was picking out his candy when he heard the smoothie machine start. Typical of Morro. He always got a smoothie or slushie everywhere they went. He was pretty much done raiding the candy section, so he started over to watch the machine make the smoothie. Those things were entertaining to watch.

Morro was contemplating which chips he should get when he heard it. An explosion sound, and then the sound of liquid splattering, all coming from the drinks station. “Shit,” he muttered, and jogged over to the source of the sound. And boy was it a sight to see.

Before him stood a smoking smoothie machine, and what looked to be Lloyd, all covered in fruit syrup, chocolate syrup, milk, ice chips, and whatever else was previously in the machine. Morro burst out laughing.

“Seriously?” Lloyd said, not looking happy at all.

Morro was in tears and practically on the ground laughing. “You- You!”

“Yeah, me. What the fuck did you do to this thing?!”

“I-,” Morro wiped the tears from his eyes. “I just pressed the buttons and put my cup in the slot. I’ve done it dozens of times!”

“Yeah, well apparently you didn’t see the huge ‘Out of Order’ sign taped to the machine.”

“Oh, that’s what that said? Oops.”

“Oops? Is that all you have to say?!”

“Yeah?”

“FSM, why do I take you anywhere?”

“Uh, you were the one who dragged me out of bed because you didn’t want to come by yourself,” Morro said.

Lloyd scoffed, and dug in his pocket. “Here, take my wallet and pay for the stuff and let’s get out of here.” He handed Morro his wallet and shopping basket full of candy.

“FSM, how much candy do you need?!” Morro exclaimed when he felt the weight of the basket.

“Hey, I’m replenishing my stash! I told you on the way here that I ate it all up. Now go and pay for the stuff so that I can go take a shower.”

Morro snorted. “I think it’ll take at least three to get that stuff out of your hair.”

Lloyd glared at him.

“Okay, okay, I’m going!”

A/N: Kinda unsatisfied with the ending, but it's now actually 3am and I'm tired and lost my momentum. Might update this later with a little epilogue thingy

Don't see anything wrong with Mineral Brothers as a name, even if it does sound fairly irrelevant to all their powers except Cole's. Here's what you're working with! Wind, Energy, Fire, Earth. Interesting Ecosystem. Not sure if this is a tag or a legit group in-canon for them, but. All of these are sources of power or rather, you could say, fuel. You know the Furious Five from Kung Fu Panda? Fuel-ious Four /j I'm sorry I'm trying. Alternatively, technically water is required, but I don't see why Lloyd's energy can't substitute 1) nobody knows what the heck his power is, 2) energy goes with everything. So, Alchemic Brothers? You also have a decent Forest Fire going on here.

hI, YES- SORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG WITH ANSWERING THIS NFNFNNGN life got crazy & then dragons rising continued everywhere but my country, then the release got pushed back even more and- I Am Here Now.

The reason I went with minerals for them is because I used to watch the show when s1 & s2 aired and then, idk, forgot it existed? Or smth like that because I only got back into it this april/may due to a friend having watched the show last year in our classes before graduating- but because I'm such an old fan I tend to refer to the ninja by their primarily used color rather than elements (Nya and Sora are.. very painful to do with this), but I can see where you're coming from! :D I just chose mineral because their colors remind me of gemstones and they're typically found underground and minerals are also underground plus lloyd is occasionally golden & gold is also found underground, so- it felt fitting for me,,

I'm definitely open for other name suggestions because honestly I'm not,, I'm not good with coming up with any kind of names these recent years ^^"

Also, if the fandom wasn't already using 'green cousins' for Lloyd & Morro I could see them being something like a 'dragon duo' because of their animal symbols (which are ofc the green ninja symbol) but um, yeah-

And yes, these four can absolutely be the cause of a hell of a forest fire- gfhjh
