Elemental Binding

Binding is the process of symbolically tie a target up, restricting their actions. You may tie to another individual (ex: handfasting), object, place, or situation. 

Bindings can be positive or negative. Examples include binding a pet or familiar to you, a spirit to an object, or bind yourself to your place of work.

Negative bindings include a bind to prevent someone from hurting you (a perfect example is the bind from The Craft) and a bind on yourself to break a habit or impulse. The type of bind depends on one’s intention.

The following post will depict on how to bind using the elements, based on the correspondences of the elements, research, and own knowledge.

Earth

Binding with Earth brings forth the lands, nature and stone as well as other Earthen representatives to bind yourself or others.

Works Best For:

Situations related to the home

Material items

Money matters

Weakening someone’s hold over you

Methods to Consider:

Bind with sticks and stones

Bury in soil

Stab a taglock (such as a paper with their name) with a fallen tree branch

Air

To bind with air is to bring forth the winds to ensnare your enemy, or bind yourself.

Works Best For:

Binding someone from coming near your home*

Communication bindings (someone speaking negatively of you)

Intellectual matters (someone underestimating/undermining your intelligence)

Networking (someone speaking ill of you [to others], talking over you)

Methods to Consider:

Trapping incense smoke in a jar

Burning the tagklock and throwing it before the winds

Yellow ribbon as a tool/leaving the taglock to hang before a breeze as a temporary binding

Holding the taglock before strong winds as you bind with yellow ribbon, asking the wind to aid you in the binding

*Different from a ward because you are preventing a person from coming near you

Fire

To bind with Fire calls upon the raging plumes of fire to bring about fiery justice, laying to ash your target, and also used to burn away habits you have [as an aid].

Works Best For:

Relationship matters

Justice/law matters

Aid in protection

Creative matters (Copyright issues, art theft, etc)

Methods to Consider:

Burning the taglock, using candles

Any method of burning*

*If you cannot burn by Fire, you can use the help of another element, or say a small rite to Fire before you do the initial binding

Water

To bind with Water calls upon the seas to bring about peace, purification and renewal within your target or yourself, or to leave your target at bay.

Works Best For:

Ending quarrel

Calming arguments

Cleansing/washing away negativity from your target 

Methods to Consider:

Immerse in water

Dissolve in water

Shaking water in a jar

Using charged water based on intent 

Spirit

To bind with Spirit calls upon the stars and the rest of the cosmos for a divine binding.

Works Best For:

Strong binding by working with the moon or during a starry night

Great ward-like binding against someone

Bind by banishing the target from you

Having the power of the other elements in a binding

An unfixed elemental binding as Spirit is “everywhere, all around us”

Methods to Consider:

Black Ribbon as a tool

Binding at Night

Calling on the moon

White or black candles

Bindings are powerful and meant to be taken seriously, and used with the best intentions. You should use them when you need it most, and not for trivial matters.

Balance de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio y su impacto en el derecho a la educación

La educación, así como, los demás derechos intrínsecamente fundamentales, siguen teniendo desigualdades debido a la crisis económicas y políticas. A partir de esto, el autor empieza contrastando la educación como DDHH. Luego, hace un balance de los objetivos y explica sus impactos en la educación. Finalmente, proyecta una mirada de este derecho, cuyo enfoque no debería estar únicamente en torno a los nuevos ODS.

1.    La educación como derecho humano

·         La educación como derecho humano se define como derecho moral y derecho jurídico (Rodríguez, 2011).

·         Si bien la EPT 2015 afirma que se ha avanzado en la escolarización en las etapas de la infancia y la adolescencia, así como en la paridad entre los sexos, especialmente en la enseñanza primaria (Unesco, 2015), el panorama aún no es muy alentador, pues sistemas educativos ineficaces y las diferencias sociales dificultan los cambios necesarios para garantizar este derecho.

·         Debe fundamentarse en dos principios: la educabilidad y la educatividad. La primera refiere a educar sin exclusiones y que las y los docentes confíen en que todas las personas pueden aprender y desarrollarse sin límites establecidos exteriormente. La segunda atañe a la educación como posibilidad y a la potencialidad de la enseñanza; exige considerar que el conocimiento es valioso, comunicable y puede tener carácter emancipador (Tenti, 2006).

·         El derecho a la educación no debe ser menos derecho y no puede estar marginalizado de las políticas. Por el contrario, debe ser considerado en relación al conjunto de DDHH para que sea posible su vivencia plena.

 2.    Impactos en la educación de los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio

·         Se han producido “cambios substantivos”, pero no suficientes, pues se ha activado una progresiva minimización de los derechos fundamentales provocando un aumento de desigualdades.

·         El derecho a la educación se niega en contextos de desigualdad, de pobreza, de enfermedad, de deterioro de la vida y de impedimentos al desarrollo humano, es decir, en contextos de fragilidad y no logro de los demás objetivos.

 3.    Proyectar la educación como derecho fundamental

·         Se debe adoptar una perspectiva generacional y dinámica de los derechos que permita resignificarlos y generar otros nuevos de acuerdo a las necesidades de las sociedades del presente. Es decir, no puede ni debe quedar reducida a la enseñanza primaria -única etapa obligatoria-.

·         Es exigible a los Gobiernos el no perpetuar y erradicar los circuitos educativos diferenciados, el de una escuela precaria sin condiciones mínimas para pobres, y una escuela bien dotada de más y mejores condiciones para ricos (Gentili, 2011).

·         Gracias a una educación básica de calidad, se podría impulsar el crecimiento económico anual y librar, aunque mínimamente de la pobreza.

·         La educación ha pasado de ser un derecho a un bien de consumo compra-venta, el cual es desposeído a personas que no pueden pagarla.
