Had a look at the dinosaur* nursery in the trees. They're still flying in with sticks and building nests. It seemed like there are a lot fewer of them than last year. It may be because last year's drought dried up a lot of the ponds or maybe they aren't all there yet. I'll check back in a few weeks.

Bird-watching bonanza

Take a walk along the local lagoons and you’re almost guaranteed to see birds that a Michigan boy might describe as exotic.

There are said to be 200 species of birds on Hilton Head Island, which doesn't surprise me a bit. With its water, temperate climate and dense foliage, the island seems to me like bird heaven.

I took these photos on a single bird hunt. You've got your great blue heron (top photo), snowy egret (middle) and anhinga (bottom).

The island is also home to osprey, bald eagles, hawks, pileated woodpeckers and pelicans - not to mention the usual varieties of cardinals, ravens, etc.

March 2025: Around The House & In The Woods

On my walk to the heron rookery, I met Ryan with the Nonconnah Creek Conservancy. We had a good talk. Turns out the woods where the rookery is located is called Christine's Woods and the land is conserved for habitat.

I decided to trek along the southern border of the woods which runs roughly parallel to a highway.

A great blue heron and a big turtle are hanging out behind my house today. They are beautiful birds!! 😍 and I love turtles, especially big ones like this one. 🐢 ❤️ the most delightful creatures hang out on that log!!! 😁😍

Taking a Nice Little Bath Can be Fun
