Archibald Haddock has lived a full life. He was a sailor and a captain at sea for twenty odd years. He met and fell in love with the man of his dreams and had many adventures with him. Then they settled down to have their greatest adventure, raising Ange into a beautiful and capable young person. It wasn’t anything he ever pictured for himself in his younger years, and it almost seemed odd to consider just how much his life had truly changed. There was only one thing for it. He was getting old. 

He turned to Tintin who kept checking the mirrors as they drove down the old country road. Some things it seemed would never change. 

“Tintin, my heart, when did we get old?”

The ginger, nearly gray, haired man in the passenger seat beside him, stopped what he was doing to stare at Haddock in surprise before his expression softened.

“I don’t know. It was probably at the same time you convinced me to stay home and write instead of gallivanting all over the world.”

“I don’t remember that being a hardship at the time.” Haddock teased, having been overjoyed when they finally ‘retired’. 

Tintin chuckled as he reached for Haddock’s free hand. “Probably not. I do miss it sometimes. Not the bad guys and being shot at, but the journeys and the friends we made.”

“I know I’m going to regret saying it, but I miss that part of it too. That does not mean we’re inviting people to our place though! The less I see of Signora Castafiore the better for both of us.”

Tintin gave a hearty laugh at that as he squeezed Haddock’s hand. “Maybe just a small get together with a few chosen friends. Like Skut?”

Haddock nodded. “Skut is fine. Chang and Chester?”

“That’s a given. Abdullah?”

They both thought about it and shuddered. It was true the kid had grown up significantly, but was still too overly fond of mischief for either of them to feel good about it. Still, Tintin had a point. Maybe that might capture some of that escaping youth if they hosted their friends once more. Marlinspike certainly needed some excitement.

“Um, is this really the best time?” Ange interjected, looking in the back window nervously.

“Ange, don’t interrupt.” Tintin was quick to admonish before urging Haddock to go on.

“I think the change of pace would be good for us. Maybe things have gotten just a bit…monotonous.”

Haddock had just finished when shots went off, one managing to shatter his side view mirror. 

“GLASS SHATTERERS! REFLECTIVE RAVAGERS!”

Haddock ranted, shaking his fist at the car behind him. 

“Can we do something about it now?” Ange pressed.

Haddock looked into the rear view mirror to see Ange gripping tightly to the seat as bullets pelted the trunk. He grumbled to himself having just popped out the last of the dents in that thing too. He made a sharp turn to the right before pressing down further on the gas and shifting into a higher gear. He didn’t lose their tail, but definitely put some distance between them. 

“Yes, give me a minute.” Tintin sighed as he reached into the glove compartment for his trusty gun, taking the safety off, and leaning out the window.

“Tintin!” Haddock hollered.

The other man paused, looking at him in surprise. 

“Your glasses!”

“Oh, that’s right.” The ginger muttered as he began to feel around his pockets for them. 

“Lapel pocket.” Ange reminded.

Tintin gave them a look before retrieving it from said pocket. 

“Great snakes.” He cursed. “I was getting there.”

“Not fast enough.” Ange complained.

“Will you calm down?” Haddock asked them. “You would think you haven’t been in a car chase before.”

“Certainly not with two old men who would rather talk about dinner parties than focusing on the matter at hand!” Ange snarked back.

They were so surprised, Tintin hardly reacted when Ange took the gun from him and started shooting back at their pursuers. Ange definitely had a point though. 

“The dinner party might be a bad idea after all.” Haddock commented.

“Agreed.” Tintin grimaced. “After all, we know Thompson and Thomson will be showing up with their new deputies…Dawson and Dason.”

“GOT THEM!” Ange whooped as they shot out a tire that flipped the car behind them.

“Better pull over.” Tintin sighed as Ange was practically ready to jump out of the car then and there.

Haddock shook his head. “Youth. Maybe it’s a good thing we’re not there anymore.”
