Many go off to the woods and never return.There are cabins sprinkled all over the forest,some deep in the middle of a holler and some right at the edge of a clearing.Some cabins are intact as if the owner just stepped outside and left the dinner on the table ,coffee still untouched, and fresh logs in the iron stove. Sometimes ,half written logs of their daily activities and suddenly quit writing,for no apparent reason. In other cases critters have taken over the place ,spider webs all over the place, mice and snakes and dirt everywhere,in many cases rain has rotten the floor and moss settled in .Iron bed frame rusting away, and blankets turn into dust.Well ,you get the picture. Log cabins of hunters,often have less comfort than city folks cabin ,that have moved and realized it was a bad decision. The woods hold many secrets indeed.Some folks have practically died in their cabins of natural causes,only to be found years later .So, the romantic view of building a cabin off grid are really inviting but comes winter ,the dreams become a nightmare and many sell their land and leave everything behind.If you are ever interested in doing it so ,I suggest you go and camp every season to get a real feeling of the land ,there’s no need to rush into such project.Study the land and ,assess the risk involved.Remember ,you will have to deal with Mother Nature on a one to one basis,meaning fauna .Think about sharpening your survival skills.
