Absolute fun. Every time I see this work. Digging back into the studio rebuild today many discoveries were made and buried in my super mega inventory stash was this gem. Upon seeing it I instantly recall the fun it was to make this. It was carefree creation. With some rebelliousness thrown in. I had a blast experimenting with different media mixed together to visualize the chaotic whimsy in my mind. As they say nailed it . Then I remember it was exhibited once. Why? It was accepted to a gallery show and received very poor reception. I used to think critics and judges must now good art vs bad art. I believed them. So away it went . Fast forward to today and I wouldn’t make that mistake again. I figured it out. This work would find its right audience and find its forever home. That I believe. Love it or hate it is up to the beholder. So enjoy. I don’t normally paint animals but after a conversation the seed was planted. Upon my unofficial acceptance I painted this guy. It’s a dog I used to have in LA but the dog was taken never to be seen again. I’ve always had a soft spot for him all these years later. That said it’s been really fun and maybe this little happy painting will permeate some of its good vibes into my future works. So I went back into the studio last night. Progress on this may vary but I’ll put in the work. It’s fun to see how these progress. I always let them unfold naturally without rigid planning. For me overthinking it is the last thing I want in my art. It generally loses appeal to me and I’ll cover it over. But for today this little painting is headed the right way and it already has a companion piece. I’m going to pair it up into a diptych which I haven’t done in ages. A lot of my work has to deal with the idea of how we hide or carry incidents in life. Ok maybe just mine because honestly I don’t know others point of view nor how they process them. But I see these things like people. On that level all the same. It’s in the details we reveal the stories, the secrets and everything else we want to share and hide. It’s an identity.
