Incident report: I observed an antelope herd in the Upper Paths exhibiting erratic behavior. Usually they're quite skittish, but the herd I came across on my way to Quarrymill were highly aggressive. A doe charged at me. Usually only the bucks are so brazen, and only during the rut. Otherwise, they're wont to run at the slightest hint of a man or another predator. I scared a few of the aggravated does off with some loud curses and clapping, but that apparently attracted a protective buck. The buck came running to defend the herd and, as I stared at it, I couldn't help but notice it seemed... off. Its fur was mangy, eyes deadened and hollow. Its gait wasn't the delicate trot one might associate with cervines. It was heavy, forced. Like it was something larger bending itself into the shape of a antelope.

So, I shouldn't have been surprised when it stood up on two legs and began to swipe at me. I ran, of course, but the blasted thing was fast. It followed me deeper into the wood where I was able to lose it with some careful avoidance and remaining perfectly still. It eventually lost interest, dropping back onto its forelegs and galloping off, presumably to rejoin its herd. I don't think it can see well. It reacted to sound more than aught else. I kept that in mind when I returned to observe it again, but I didn't find that same, aggressive herd. Just the usual skittish sort. I have to wonder if the buck was the only false antelope in the herd, or if I met a whole family of them. Investigator's note: I'm not fully convinced its a malevolent creature so much as it is a predator, albeit an unnatural one. Either way, I've made the Wailers at Quarrymill aware of the incident, as well as the Adventurers posted at the Druthers. I was advised to lay off the ale. Twice.

I think about this fic often but for the life of me I could never remember what the title was. All I had going was Kate and Leopold-inspired and for some reason nothing would pop-up. I knew I had to wade through my ao3 history loathe as I was to do it. (Honestly let's face it hundreds of pages worth is DAUNTING and the eye strain my god)

On top on tumblr getting on the asses of trans girls and ignoring the porn bots/accounts, I would like to add the thousands of pro-ana accounts that remain very active in tags that are very easy to find. That’s not to mention the graphic self harm photos easily found. That’s not to mention that a scary amount of these accounts are from kids aged 12-15.

Okay, now that the holiday rush is over, time to actually play Veilguard for a significant amount of time. I would like to outline my major two problems right now:

the four-minute boot time. this may be clientside -- Azathoth is 5 years old and hasn't had (hasn't needed) any hardware updates. if a player with a newer rig sees this, pls report in on how long it takes for the game to boot for you

the fact that this is one of those games that returns you to a central hub when you load a save, instead of the exact location you were at. this is not what I expect in most sRPGs unless they're aRPGs. so I get the impression that this is more an action-adventure, which lowers my story expectations (because those games tend to be thin on storyline/chardev and heavy on exploration/combat/levelling).

I like action-adventures just fine, but I can't think of a single one I've finished. Because that's just not the kind of game that keeps me engaged long enough to finish a playthrough. Even if they do have an interesting (if still thin) story: I love Far Cry 5 but have I finished Far Cry 5? LOL pls I haven't even finished one region.

Anyway, mostly this is just an annoyance, because now I have to plan my save-and-quits for when I'm not out in the boonies somewhere. Bleh. It could just be they're hybridising -- a character-focused action-adventure. If so, I can't be too mad about that, I love hybridising.

There's also something distinctly wading-through-treacle-y about the way walking/running feels in this game that I fear might become a last-straw situation at some point. I'm trying to ignore it but I get really hung up on things like that after a while, especially since running around is kind of the main thing you do. My ability to push past it might depend on how long the game is (I haven't looked up average runtimes because I don't want to influence myself).

By analysing the patterns of violence and Israel’s policies in its onslaught on Gaza, the “Anatomy of a Genocide” report concludes reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating Israel’s commission of genocide is met.

One of the key findings is that Israel's executive and military leadership and soldiers have intentionally distorted ‘jus in bello’ principles, subverting their protective functions, in an attempt to legitimise genocidal violence against Palestinians.

In this report, Francesca Albanese, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967 (“oPt”), addresses the crime of genocide as perpetrated by the State of Israel (“Israel”) in the oPt, specifically in the Gaza Strip, since 7 October 2023.

As Israel prohibits her visits, this report is based on data and analyses from organisations on the ground, international jurisprudence, investigative reports and consultations with affected individuals, authorities, civil society and experts.

Since it imposed the siege on Gaza in 2007, which tightened the closure imposed since 1993, Israel, the occupying power, has carried out five major assaults before the present one.

By Day 9, this assault had already caused more deaths (2,670) than Israel’s previous deadliest war against Gaza, in 2014 (2,251) . Only a fraction of the mass killing, severe harm and ruthless, life-threatening conditions inflicted on Palestinians over the following months of assault can be captured in this report.

UN experts, 5 scholars, 6 and states, 7 including South Africa before the International Court of Justice (“ICJ”), 8 have warned that acts committed in this latest onslaught may amount to genocide.

The ICJ found a plausible risk of “irreparable prejudice” to the rights of Palestinians in Gaza, a protected group under the Genocide Convention, 9 and ordered Israel, inter alia, to “take all measures within its power” to prevent genocidal acts, prevent and punish incitement to genocide, and ensure urgent humanitarian aid.

In its defense, Israel has argued that its conduct complies with international humanitarian law (“IHL”).

A key finding of this report is that Israel has strategically invoked the IHL framework as “humanitarian camouflage” to legitimise its genocidal violence in Gaza.

The context, facts and analysis presented in this report lead to the conclusion that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the threshold indicating Israel’s commission of genocide is met.

More broadly, they also indicate that Israel’s actions have been driven by a genocidal logic integral to its SETTLER-COLONIAL project in PALESTINE, signalling a tragedy foretold.
