This week in Horrors Beyond Human Comprehension

I was photoshopping some people out of an image to create a cool effect for a company booklet and decided to chance the ai feature. The prompt I tried first was ‘remove the people’

When I saw the result I actually screamed

It removed all the casually dressed smiling people —-and replaced them with a dozen 40ft tall faceless nightmare generals with laptops.

I can’t shake the feeling that their purpose is great and terrible.

The next prompt I gave it instructions to replace the people with trees, sky, and grass, and that worked ok except that the trees looked kind of Italian for no reason.

besides the classic software stuff, creativity but then "knowledge of AI in the graphic area is an advantage"

Ive been really getting into graphic design for the promo images for my fics. Unfortunately I got carried away with this one and made it way too cool so I can't use it. Like it doesn't match the vibe of the fic at all and I don't want to falsely advertise it. But I love how it turned out so I wanted someone to see it. So thank you for putting your eyeballs on it.

The fic I made it for is basically a tragic existential romance. This graphic is giving, like, cyberpunk thriller. Like the Enderman is alive and coming for my ass through the screen lol. Which would be sick, but is so not the vibe this time around.

Someone will probably ask anyway so you can read it on AO3 here: Sandy Again, tragic. No cyberpunk thriller here. But I like it a lot.

I'm both amused and dismayed that I'm a professional graphic designer (and photographer), and I've been in this business for longer than I will disclose here, but when it comes time to make a cover image for my fics I'm like, "Uhh.... How make pictures with words?"

Do you have any idea how complicated it is to take a black & white vector file designed for engraving and convert it to a color file for printing, but still keep it a vector file

This thing took so long 😂 but I’m damn proud of it

Okay, I'd agree with this totally if you'd picked any other common technological device except for printers. The single most obstreperous piece of home computing equipment, which do not get any better when you get the higher end professional machines in a print shop. The one bit of technology that repeatedly prompts me yo give up on logic and attempt animal sacrifice to appease the demons which surely possess it. No, even the dumb printer has malice in its heart.

Gonna pretend this is about fridges instead.

that feeling when your boss implements a new task logging system where it's gonna take longer to log most tasks than to do them, so you tell him that, but he says 'we need the data'.

I just crossed 60k for the first time in my life and what little work I get to do typically serves to improve life in a local community, so I guess my job is logging tasks now.

When they told us in the job training that, as designer, you have to prostitute yourself a bit and sell your soul... That was about working for companies like McDonalds in order to pay your bills when no other jobs are around... not about AI T_T

But yes... unfortunately I have to sell my soul a bit no matter how I feel about it in order to get a job at all in the industry again. The training I get soon includes AI too (just a small part of the classes).... Tho it is not bad to be informed and actually know how these bishes work in order to judge them, find better solutions or include them if demanded... but maybe in a way I don't stab my heart every time.

I will never use picture generator AI in private, personal projects. But in business it's not my problem if companies want to ruin their image by using cheap, buggy AI that looks exactly like every other companies cheap, buggy AI designs.

At least german AI laws are in favor of artists atm and bad for AI. (AI art doesn't get copyright so you could technically take every companies AI bs and do whatever mockery you want with it and they can't sue you)
