I edited this image by using the tumblr editing tools. I liked how the poster turns. And I loved the way of the trees movement, it looks like the trees holding each other and dancing.

Here I was exploring and creating the poster in graphic design for my Growth project. In this poster I used image from my pinhole camera workshop. The black ink makes the shape of the trees and the tree's root very shown and attractive.

I did not like the space of the Poster because it looks uneffectively.

Blog post 1: Graphic Design as a means of communication

Communication is an important part of any field. And it need not just be in the form of a written text but can also be in the form of art and design. Creativity in design and art has always been a medium of communication since the olden times. Creative art and design do not need to be a drawing or a painting, it can be in any form; for example, even different types of dance forms like Bharatnatyam, Khatak, Mohiniattam etc. have a story and convey a message or communicate with the audience. Creativity and art is a way through which people can express their feelings. I believe it is one of the easiest ways to communicate one’s feelings.

When it comes to designing, specifically graphic design, for a layman it is only about designing something and coming out with an output. But for a graphic designer, it is not just about designing something but it is more about communicating messages to others with the help of graphic elements such as images, types, font, colour, photography, shades, lines, shapes etc. Designing is more than just a combination of art, text, images, and symbols. As a designer, one has to make use of the different elements of graphic design and help in transferring a message. It is more of applying their talent and not just coming up with a pure art work, but coming up with a communication and a purposeful art.

Malcolm Barnard, in his book Graphic Design as Communication, talks about the importance of graphic design in our lives and explains that communication is the primary focus of graphic design. Based on theories advocated by experts and illustrations from art fields, he derives that social identity relies largely on graphic design as a communication tool. Various societal groups are represented in graphic design which also forms a medium of their communication.

Graphic design in itself is a huge field and it uses these different fields to communicate and reach out to the audience. The different fields are illustration, brand identity, typography, packaging, web design, motion design etc.

For a design to be a form of communication, one needs to make sure that the design they are making is simple but at the same time elegant. When it comes to designing a logo or a poster one needs to take care of the smallest detail so that the final output communicates the intended message to the viewer effectively and in an instant.

For me, since I was a kid I have always been interested in arts and design. Drawing and painting have always helped me express how I feel. Creativity and art have always helped me in communicating how I feel to a greater extent than writing.

When it comes to graphic design, I feel it is a wonderful means of communication. When it comes to communicating a message, graphic design can be used as a mirror of society. As a form of communication design, it can be used as a reflection and show society what it is doing. In today’s world, there are a lot of issues going on in the world, so using designing as a mirror, one can communicate the message to the society in a forthright, hard-hitting and effective manner.

A simple design can help communicate a message more than words can and that is what a good design is all about.

Stop Motion

So this week I was doing graphic design and I thought to do invitation poster for my last digital animation film which was about growth of sunflower , so what I thought is that I want to mix the three elective choices . I did a stop motion animation which is this video, it is about the seeds and leaves of sunflower meeting each other and creating the sunflower.

In this stop motion video I focused on the lighting and camera position. And I took pictures to explore what is the best image for my invitation poster.
