Terminology Thursday: The Fandom That Ate Fandom
Tumblr media
Has your feed suddenly been taken over by one fandom? Are all your mutuals discarding their fandoms and creating for this one new thing? You may be experiencing The Fandom That Ate Fandom.
The Fandom That Ate Fandom is a term used to describe one fandom that all other fandoms seems to turn towards, which seems to absorb all the attention of fans. Some examples of this are Stargate Atlantis, BTS, and The Untamed. This trend can be frustrating for some fans because all their mutuals, fannish friends and favourite creators are focused on one thing, something they may not be interested in, and it can be very hard to avoid.
Have you experienced this phenomena? Come check out Fanlore and see if the fandom that ate fandom you were thinking of is on the page.

Podtober Encore: Pod Together
Tumblr media
As a throwback to last year's Podtober month, today we're focusing on Pod Together, an annual podficcing challenge, founded by Paraka and podklb. Originally started in 2011, it is subtitled A collaboration challenge for writers and podficcers. It has communities on both Livejournal and Dreamwidth, and a collection on Archive of Our Own. Podfics may be self-hosted or hosted at Paraka's archive, Paraka Productions. Meta about the process is encouraged.
The creators cite two reasons for the challenge. First, to challenge the idea that a podfic is a simple format shift from the written word; Second, to have fun and encourage writers and podficcers to create something made specifically to be performed.
Have you ever participated in the challenge? We’d love to hear about it over on Fanlore!

Ship Sunday: Tenou Haruka/Kaiou Michiru
Tumblr media
This Ship Sunday, we’re highlighting Tenou Haruka/Kaiou Michiru, the canon lesbian pairing from the Sailor Moon franchise. Haruka and Michiru first appeared as an established couple in the main media storylines and stayed together throughout each series. As one of the few canonical lesbian relationships in a popular series from the 1990s, HaruMichi has remained a staple for yuri fans around the world.
HaruMichi’s relationship was infamously censored in the North American English dub of the anime, where they are referred to as cousins instead of lovers. Nowadays, many fans have embraced the irony of the failed censorship and laughed about it.
Are you a fan of HaruMichi? Check out examples of their fanworks on Fanlore!

Ship Sunday: Alhaitham/Kaveh
Tumblr media
This Ship Sunday we’re highlighting the slash relationship between Alhaitham and Kaveh from Genshin Impact. Referred to as either Kavetham or Haikaveh, the dynamic between them has caught the attention of many and resulted in their ship gaining popularity within the fandom.
Despite the fact that their canon status is still unclear, they live together and seem to argue like an old married couple. This has earned them the title of second most popular Genshin Impact ship on AO3 in August 2024.

Ship Sunday: Widowmaker/Mercy
Tumblr media
This Ship Sunday, we’re looking at the femslash pairing of Widowmaker/Mercy from the Overwatch fandom. The ship features Amélie Lacroix, a French sniper and assassin, and Angela Ziegler, a doctor and field medic, who work against each other.
It is unknown if they have met in the canon lore, which is why the ship has struggled to reach the popularity of others from the fandom. The duo was considered a rarepair for a long time, but has now grown to be an established niche pairing within the Overwatch femslash community.
Are you curious to learn more? Head on over to their Fanlore page!
