not sure about the border colors for square 2, the gray and pink is pretty, but i feel like they’re too bright and take away focus from the main attraction. anyone have any color suggestions? i’d love some input!
anyways official crocheting progress documentation: reached the i can just design my own shit now stage!!!! square 2, apart from the shell-bobble stitch border, is my own design, and i just completely winged it and tried to combine stuff i had already learned. pattern for square 1 and yarns used for both squares under the read more!
square 1: Adelheid, by Diana Krenz, with a small alteration to the last two or three rounds of the circle i think. I wanted a cool little raised border, and so i backposted a row that wasn’t backposted in the patterns, and added a few funky frontposts in key places. I completely ignored the instructions for the second last row of squaring up and semi tried to match stitch count to splendid serendipity, and the rest is just the normal splendid serendipity square border. i really love the look of the stacked popcorns in the middle + the fact that my color changing yarn ended up matching perfectly again.
yarn used is Lana Grossa Cotonella in Color 008 up until the bright blue ends (i think this has to be my favorite color way of this yarn so far), and the dark blue is Drops Loves You 7, Color 05. Bright green row is Cotonella Color 009 that I had left over from a previous square — unfortunately not enough to match stitch height to the original pattern, so this square ended up slightly too small. if I end up rebuying the same color this was left over from, I’ll just frog those rows and add em again.
square 2: no idea what to specify here, except that this is my own bullshit, from my brain, i and i am pretty proud of it. never was much of a person who could doodle patterns like some of my friends would in class back in school, and i never understood where the shapes and lines and different ideas for designs would come from. bam, i learn how to crochet, and suddenly i can translate stitches into shapes and then there was a pattern!! pretty damn cool if i may toot my own horn.
yarn used is the rest of Lana Grossa Cotonella Color 008 from square 1, that i managed to almost completely use! Will probably change the border, but gray yarn is Drops Loves You 7 Color 04, and some left over Cotonella, which color exactly I could not say, since several color ways use this dye (could be 02, 04, or 07).
10 squares down, 6 to go!

finished object time!!!! :]
i made this continuous granny square blanket using about 3 lion brand mandala cakes (i believe in the colorways dragon, kraken, and sphinx, except i cut out the red of sphinx). was a lovely project for sitting and watching movies (nausicaä of the valley of the wind, star trek: the motion picture, and star trek II: the wrath of khan) and mindlessly crocheting :)
it's a bit smaller than i hoped (3'x3') but it's a great lap blanket and accent on my bed!! i've already started another continous granny square blanket, but just using stash yarn and changing color every row.
i loved watching the colors flow in this, even though they get a bit choppy by the end. i love the little quirks in this blanket so much, was very fun and comforting to work on :) plus it's a nice light weight for springtime!!

Five photos of a crocheted continuous granny square blanket. The yarn colors blend into each other as the blanket grows. The colors consist of brown, greens, blues, teals, and yellows. Four photos are of the blanket folded, and one is me holding it up full-size. ]
