Weekly Tag Wednesday - Firsts!
Name: Lem
Age: 32
First Pet? We had an array of different dogs and animals before, but the one I remember solidly as the first one with a name that was there longer than a month was a black pug, her official name was Julianna Opal, why? We got Juliana from the movie Quest for Camelot, and Opal was my brother and dad's birthstone. But her name that stuck was Ding based on the dinging her tags made on her food bowl.
First Word? I think to my mother's dismay it was dada. BUT mom tells this good story about the first time I said fuck. I was about three and she was heavily pregnant with my brother, we were playing with barbies on the floor and i just casually slip a "fuck" between whatever barbie babble I was doing, She calmly asks ("I knew I had to be calm because you were three and if I made a scene you'd say fuck everywhere knowing it was bad because you were a little shit") "where did you hear that word honey?" Thinking I'd say my dad. my reply? "From yooooou"
First Celebrity Crush? oh hell, the only one coming to mind is Adrien Brody, which I know was in middle school because I would print pictures of him off in the school library and keep them in a special folder to look at through the day when class was lame. (no shame)
First IRL Crush? His name was Tommy, starting at least in kindergarten to when he moved in third grade. He promised me a kiss once we both turned 18 too, which he never fulfilled.
First kiss? His name was Marty, we hid in the big tunnel on the playground in first grade and the entire memory is blurry, but I remember that little kiss. Now first KIIIIISS i was 16 and we were watching Tarzan at my house and he just leaned over and kissed me during the opening song, before Tarzan's parents died.
First Car? fuuuuck I loved that thing. a 1991 grand marquis mercury. BEST BOAT ever
First apartment/house/dorm/whatever away from your parents? I moved in with my best friend (still my best friend) and my boyfriend at the time, into a trailer, three bed two bath, big ass kitchen, I loved the shower/bath it was huuuge.
First time on a plane? Never been on one.
First cellphone? a tracfone
First concert? Fallout Boy right before the pandemic.
First Foreign country you visited? Never been to one.
First sport you ever played? soccer when I was four or five.
First career aspiration? National Geographic photographer
And finally… tell me about the first time you wrote/drew/created/whatever something that made you think "wow". Middle School, wrote a four composition book length book about a girl who fell in love with a werewolf then got kidnapped by the evil werewolf creator and taken to his evil castle in the artic, where she started learning spells and when her beloved came to rescue her she helped kick ass.
Cringingly i tried to read through it and edit it a few years ago and I was APPALLED that I ASKED my 7th grade english teacher to read it and edit my grammar and spelling.
I swear to fuck she and the other teachers must have had discussions about it because they ALL made some comment about my book here and there and asked to be mentioned when I published my first one.
THERE WERE MAKEOUT SCENES
THERE WAS DISNEY SONG INSERTS
SHE THOUGHT JCPENNY WAS A HIGH END FASHION STORE
THE MALE LOVE INTEREST (THE WEREWOLF) HAD NEVER HAD MCDONALDS IN HIS TWENTIES AND SHE INTRODUCED IT TO HIM LIKE IT WAS AMBROSIA AND HONEY
god the flashbacks
I'll tag @witchboywitchboywitchboy @suzy-queued @ian-galagher

Hiii!! I've just discovered your blog and I want to say that as a native spanish speaker (from Madrid) I find your posts really interesting.
Also, I wanted to add something about the "se" in passive sentences. I didn't see you mentioning the name of passives with se but it might be helpful for some people. To remember how it's used and what for.
The type of sentences that are passive and use the se like se venden pisos (flats are being sold) are called pasivas reflejas (reflexive passives, more or less) because the passive verb is accompanied by se, called marca de pasiva refleja, which as you mentioned in othe cases serves to emphasize actions on certain objects. That's why it's called refleja. To compare:
Reflexive passive: Se venden (los) pisos.
Normal passive: (Los) pisos son vendidos.
Having said that, I'm going to ramble a bit. I've always been curious about how much grammar is studied in other countries because, as far as I know, spanish is the only language that places so much importance on learning the grammar rules. From the age of 10 we have to learn sintax, morphology and grammar analysis, and it's a big part of one the exams we have to take in Selectividad. Everyone knows the list of prepositions and different types of passives, impersonal forms, types of se... idk I just want to know if it's only here or in other countries too.
And I just want to congratulate you on having such an interesting blog as this one. I hope you're having a good day and that I didn't bore you with this ask.
First of all, thank you!
Second: Ahh that makes sense. I've come to learn how to use them but I was never taught the actual words for some of the linguistic concepts (which is how I stumbled upon dativo ético when looking for what things were actually called)
I can't speak for everyone, but I will say that when I first took Spanish in elementary school it was more unstructured - we learned words, verbs, some conjugations, but it wasn't as comprehensive as I would have liked. We focused a lot on conjugation more than anything
In high school, it was much more structured (we go from Spanish 1 to Spanish 4 in the US; in my school you needed to take 2 years of a foreign language but I wanted to learn Spanish so I took all the classes)
There it was the regular verbs, irregular verbs, stem-changing verbs, word order, preterite, imperfect, a bit of the subjunctive, future, conditional, commands, etc.
I didn't really learn subjunctive completely until university, but I was also not getting the best grades in Spanish because I had to unlearn things that were wrong or put things into context... like knowing the prepositions, but not knowing that some verbs take different prepositions [there was a lot of esperar para for "wait for", things like that that are very wrong, or not knowing sino and pero]
College was different in that I was also taking language classes with composition and literature, so I was seeing more of the language
But we weren't taught a lot of the linguistics. We really made it as far as imperfect subjunctive, and Spanish 4 was a lot of talk about the subjunctive
Finally understanding preterite/imperfect, things like imperfect subjunctive vs future subjunctive, passive voice [we learned the normal passive but didn't really touch on reflexive passive], and other things native speakers do with pronomials didn't come until much later and during this blog
I feel like a lot of the education I had was based on grammar and fundamentals, but not as in depth in grammar as you would get as a native speaker. I did take classes in translation to get better used to how Spanish worked grammatically compared to English, and I was doing lots of literature classes with literary analysis in Spanish so I got a lot of reading/writing practice. But there was less emphasis on linguistics which... I feel like even a bit of linguistics would have helped
This is also an aside but I was taking other languages too and when I took German briefly it was then that I really understood the concepts of accusative/direct objects and dative/indirect objects... I felt like I was learning more from comparison than what was covered in classes. My textbooks were also very formally written and some quite old... as in still using éste and considering CH its own letter; and I specifically remember guion being guión in my vocabulary lists
I think I had a lot of training with fundamentals, but not as much with advanced grammar and there was very little discussion of linguistics or morphology... and syntax we talked about things like how sentences work with questions or commands, but less so about how subject placement can change things. I was also taught things but they were not explained thoroughly sometimes, like why se is used in irse or why it's se busca or what the difference between the -iera/-ara and -iese/-ase forms were [just that they were there and considered interchangeable in my more Latin American textbook]
I think I learned more about irregular conjugations and exceptions to rules than most native speakers (like I was learning asir which I've never seen a single person use in my life)

Any advice regarding the ap lit exam? Like literally any advice at all? It’s this wednesday and I had a genuinely terrible class and it’s finally hitting me that the test is literally two days from now (well, less than that considering it’s nearly midnight on monday anyway) and I would appreciate anything and everything you have that would result in me possibly being a little less fucked on the exam.
Aha, well. It so happens that I will be off to grade AP exams in the next few weeks (history, not lit, but still) and thus can indeed offer a few pointers on how to maximize your performance on the exam, even if you did have a terrible class and don't feel prepared for it. So:
First: Google some past exams, google the test itself, look at all the official prep material that you can get your hands on. Here is the AP Lit course page with a link to a description of the exam, which should include a rubric with its weight and grading (i.e., what the readers will be looking for in each section). Here's the AP Lit crib sheet from the Princeton Review. There is a list of authors that they advise you to be familiar with, under poetry, drama, fiction, and expository prose. There's no way you can review them ALL, but you can at least take a look at the names and google/wikipedia the most unfamiliar.
Likewise from the link above (definitely go look at it), here's the breakdown for the AP Lit exam format, with a suggestion as to how to plan your time:
The AP English Literature & Composition exam takes 3 hours to complete and consists of two sections: a multiple-choice section and a free response section.
Section 1 is 60 minutes/ 55 multiple-choice questions. It's worth 45% of your mark.
Section 2 is 120 minutes, (40 minutes recommended per essay). It consists of 3 free response questions and is worth 55%:
Question 1: Poetry Analysis Question 2: Prose Fiction Analysis Question 3: Literary Argument
Speaking as somebody who graded the short-answer AP essay questions last year, the scoring rubric is fairly flexible. We were reading each one-page response and seeing if it met three criteria, and awarding it a score between 0 (lowest) and 3 (highest). We are advised to err on the side of generosity, even in an otherwise terrible response. Last year, the first criteria for getting a point was "Define the Enlightenment." If the student did that, they got the point, even if the rest of the response was nigh incomprehensible. (And, uh, it sometimes was).
Basically, make sure to read the question thoroughly and make sure you've clearly fulfilled every part of what it's asking. As long as your reader can identify matches for each part of the score, you'll get those points, regardless of how crappy the rest of it might be. Don't assume that a longer response is better; if you're just waffling on and making up bullshit, it will not necessarily improve your score, if you're not addressing the criteria. A clearer, shorter response will be easier for your reader to analyze.
(Yes, a real live human will be reading and grading your exam -- or at least part of it, since we all do different sections and not the whole thing. I am one of those humans.)
Spelling and grammar errors don't actually count against you, as long as the content is readable and makes a correct point. Of course, not that I ENCOURAGE making spelling or grammar errors, but it's not marked against you. There is a long commentary to be had here on how standardized tests are terrible for actually measuring students' overall intellectual capacity and only reward rote memorization, etc etc. But for our purposes, this is beside the point.
Making a brief outline, i.e. labeling the parts of your essay 1), 2), 3), etc., will help both you and us. As long as you then follow that order. There are plenty of students who do that and then write what-the-hell-ever anyway.
On that note: we are shut up for 9 hours every day for a week in a windowless grey warehouse, reading endless handwritten variations on the same question. Please, please, please make sure that you write legibly, since if we can't read it, you won't get points regardless of how brilliant your argument might be.
No one reader has control over every part of your exam, and we obviously don't know who any of the students are. If I was working on an essay question, I would be working ONLY on that question and not any of the other essay questions and/or the multiple choice. Your exam is marked by probably at minimum a half-dozen different readers, and then that score is put together and aggregated into your overall AP score. So even if you do absolutely bomb one of the sections, you have a chance to do well on another one that is marked in a different way/by a different reader.
Take a deep breath, do your best cram job, and go kick that exam's ass. One of my colleagues will thank you for it!
Good luck!

Not autistic, but I've had learning disabilities in the past. I fully understand that struggle.
Math is... basically my gorgon. My bugbear. Math just ain't mathin' for me. French, English, composition; even programming - that I can do. If numbers come out, out comes the calculator. I'm saying this because I needed years of remedial education, and needed educators to realize that the standard, textbook-grade way of delivering math concepts just didn't work for me.
In a sense, I was a program running and most adults spent years trying to brute-force me. That gave me anxiety attacks on evenings before math classes, flashbacks, verbal abuse from educators that couldn't handle me - and tears. Tears aplenty, like in the comic.
Up until someone had the balls to basically look at my case and go "Wait, what if we zigged instead of zagged?" I'm simplifying, but that's basically it. It took a diagnosis from a specialist in neuro-psychology and an afternoon with the first decent math teacher I'd ever know for all the morons from the years prior to think: "This might sound weird, but what if it weren't his fault, actually?"
Turns out you couldn't just unpack Algebra in my face in three sittings and expect me to be solving variable equations two weeks later. I needed to use similes and scenarios to sort of simulate and roleplay my way into Algebra, so that I'd get to develop my own sense of understanding of the concept.
What did it for me was a conjunction of two things, namely:
realizing that Math is, effectively following the same logic as Grammar. It's entirely arbitrary, and holds itself together purely thanks to the general consensus that Numbers Work in a Specific Way.
realizing that Math is, obviously, very close to programming, which itself borrows a lot from Grammar in its structure.
I approach Math as a language, and not as lump sums moving around. It's why I can do quick multiplications in my mind not because I'm computing something, but because I intuited that the inner logic of math demands that 9x3 equals 27; the same way a sentence comes with certain requirements to be legible. All thanks to consensus, or the general rule of what looks sensible and practical.
All of that, and some idiots still had the nerve to ask if I'd been "fixed", after getting my GED six months on the coattails of my then-honorary High School degree. You're never fixed, when you have a learning disability, just like autistics can't be forced into behaving like neurotypicals. Fuck, I pull panic attacks when my accountant asks me to put a few things together before Tax Season! I'm serviceable at Math, now - doesn't mean I like it!
The sad part is that nobody of any condition can just stand up for themselves and say "look, this thing you're trying out with me isn't working". Trying to wave a red flag never works; the normies always end up thinking you're trying to excuse laziness or reticence.

Practice Exercises: ICSE board books should offer practice questions, chapter tests, and sample papers to reinforce learning. These practice materials help students become more confident in their ability to solve problems and answer questions accurately.
Quality Illustrations and Diagrams: Visual aids like diagrams, charts, and pictures make it easier for students to understand complex topics, particularly in subjects like Science and Mathematics. These visuals should be accurate, well-labeled, and complement the theory.

The Thought Tailor - Reading the Signs: 5 Clues It's Time for the Best Primary English Tuition for PSLE
The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is a critical milestone in every student's educational journey in Singapore. With its rigorous demands, ensuring your child is well-prepared, especially in core subjects like English, becomes paramount. If you're pondering over the right time to enrol your child in the best primary English tuition for PSLE, here are five unmistakable signs that it's time to take action.
1. Frowning Over Homework
One of the most evident signs that your child might need extra help is their reaction to homework. If English assignments consistently turn into a source of frustration and stress, it’s a clear indicator that they are struggling.
Frequent frowns, sighs, and a general sense of dread when tackling English homework suggests that your child is not confident in their understanding of the material. This is where the best PSLE English tuition can make a significant difference. Expert tutors can provide the support and guidance needed to turn those frowns into smiles, helping your child to grasp challenging concepts and complete their assignments with greater ease.
2. Mysterious Mark Slips
Have you noticed a steady decline in your child's English grades? If once-high scores are now mysteriously slipping, it’s a sign that your child may be facing difficulties in keeping up with the increasing complexity of the subject. Teachers' comments on their papers might be cryptic, pointing out areas of weakness that are not immediately clear to you.
Engaging a professional tutor from a reputable primary English tuition centre can help diagnose these issues accurately. Tutors can provide tailored instruction to address specific gaps in knowledge, ensuring that your child's grades improve and their confidence is restored.
3. Vocabulary Vexation
A strong vocabulary is crucial for success in English, especially for the PSLE. If your child's vocabulary seems limited or stagnant, it’s a clear sign they need additional support. A rich vocabulary aids in comprehension, expression, and overall communication skills.
The best primary English tuition programmes focus on expanding students' word banks through engaging and interactive methods. These can include reading a variety of texts, playing word games, and practising the use of new words in context. By enhancing their vocabulary, your child will be better equipped to tackle both comprehension and composition sections of the PSLE English exam.

4. Writing Woes
Writing is a skill that takes time and practice to develop. If your child’s compositions resemble a jigsaw puzzle missing crucial pieces, with unclear ideas and poorly structured sentences, it’s time to consider enrolling them in the best PSLE English tuition. Professional tutors can provide targeted instruction on how to plan, draft, and refine compositions.
They can teach your child how to create coherent narratives, use appropriate grammar and punctuation, and develop their unique voice. With consistent practice and expert feedback, your child’s writing skills will improve, making their compositions clearer, more compelling, and exam-ready.
5. PSLE Pressure Cooker
As the PSLE approaches, the pressure on students increases significantly. The anxiety associated with preparing for such a high-stakes exam can be overwhelming. If you notice that your child is becoming increasingly anxious and stressed about their English performance, it’s a sign that they could benefit from the structured support of the best PSLE English tuition.
Experienced tutors not only provide academic assistance but also teach effective study strategies and time management skills. They can offer a calm and supportive environment where your child can ask questions freely and work through their anxieties. This holistic approach helps to build your child’s confidence, reduce stress, and improve their overall performance in the exam.

Tank ewe! Tank ewe!
I'd like to thank my English teachers of days past.
To the ones who pushed knowledge into me and pulled out confidence...👏
Thank you!
To the ones who taught me to love literature, to prize poetry, and to lavish myself in the luster of language...👏
Thank you!
I'll begin with sixth grade because, in Alabama, middle school is where the subjects became independent. Each subject had its unique teacher with his or her flare for their passion.
Thank you...
Mrs. Jones, 6th grade 😍👏💐 | Mrs. Carden, 7th grade 😍👏💐
Mrs. Fletcher, 8th grade 😍👏💐 | Mrs. Johnson, 9th grade 😍👏💐
Mrs. Dabbs, 10th grade 😍👏💐 | Mrs. Henderson, 11th grade 😍👏💐
Mrs. Bidwell, 11th grade 😍👏💐 | Mrs. Williams, 12th grade 😍👏💐
Honorable mention: Mrs. Roberts, Literary Magazine, High School
Sixth grade was my induction into grammar and composition. Mrs. Jones was fun and strict. She enjoyed the precision of sentence structure. But as hard as she was, she always held a special place in my heart. Almost ten years after I sat in her class, I returned to Huntsville to help my mom homeschool my brother. I called on Mrs. Jones for English help. Like a king knighting a soldier, she passed me not only a student edition of the grammar and composition book I had used, but she also gave me a teacher's edition. She hugged me and sent me off with words of encouragement and good will. Thank you, Mrs. Jones!
The seventh grade me was turning into a little sh^t, yet Mrs. Carden found a way to pull out the creative genius in my writing. She was hard, rough, and seemingly unforgiving. Somehow, though, I produced some of my greatest short stories. I wish I had copies of them now. All I remember was writing a story of a boy escaping his kidnappers and running down the highway and ducking into the woods. [shrugs] Oh, Mrs. Carden! If only I knew what you saw in me.
Mrs. Fletcher held down eighth grade English with an iron fist and a tongue hardened in the streets and sharpened in the annals of university. I can't tell you a doggone thing I did in that class. I can't even remember what we read in there. I had checked out by eighth grade. Sorry, Mrs. Fletcher. Sorry for fighting in your class, too. Well, less of fighting and more of keeping the person from kicking my butt. You still get love from me!
Somehow, I was able to slide into Advanced Placement English (AP Eng) my freshman year of high school (ninth grade). Mrs. Johnson took no prisoners. She tried to teach me the value of journaling...it didn't take then. She introduced me to Atticus Finch and Odysseus. They're still my boys. My paper on Odysseus garnered me an invitation into the Literary Magazine with the honorable mention, Mrs. Roberts. There were plenty of days Mrs. Johnson would have loved to strangle me, but it never stopped her from coaxing the English Major/Communications Minor out of me.
Vocabulary would best summarize tenth grade and my AP Eng class that year. Vocabulary and Paris and Mrs. Dabbs. I'm not sure what was in Mrs. Dabbs and her approach that kept me focused. Maybe it was being fifteen and turning sixteen, a new surge of maturity accompanying my learner's permit and my driver's license. Maybe I just liked her style. Whatever it was, she managed to encourage me to write a letter to the editor of the local paper. And she was elated when she saw it in the paper the following week. I bumped into Mrs. Dabbs in 2005, almost ten years after graduating. We exchanged addresses and became pen-pals for about a year. I fell off. Tsk, tsk! She encouraged me to follow my dreams of writing, believing in the love I had for it. May I do you proud, Mrs. Dabbs.
If having one hard-nosed teacher for AP Eng my eleventh-grade year was bad, imagine having two. Yes...TWO. Mrs. Henderson was my teacher the 1st semester, submerging my class into classics, introducing me to Geoffrey Chaucer's arse and Hamlet's monologue. She was another one who calmed the savage beast rising inside of me. The beast which gained control my last year of middle school. High school advanced placement teachers seemed to have a music about them. I also found my love for presentation progressing under Mrs. Henderson. She, unfortunately, relocated due to her husband's job and left us in the care of Mrs. Bidwell. Oh, how I missed you, Mrs. Henderson!
Mrs. Bidwell got the raw end of the deal. Coming in mid-stream in any situation spells trouble. And, although now, I know it isn't her fault, and I understand her method and her belief system (now), I hated her guts then. Hated her! What do you do with a bunch of juniors accustomed to engaging in literature and literary work? You make them go back to the basics, of course. Especially if you're tired of grading papers full of grammatical errors. I despised her. I felt she was belittling us. We're eleventh grade AP Eng, by George! Where's our respect? How dare you make us review grammar daily like the common English classes! I'm so, so, so sorry, Mrs. Bidwell. Thank you for what you were trying to do. I would beg you for those worksheets and grammar pointers now.
My final bouquet goes to Mrs. Williams. She lifted my twelfth-grade experience to new heights. She was real and raw. She taught me how to write essays and poetry. She encouraged me and took the time to try and figure out why she was losing me. She couldn’t understand and she didn’t pick it up in my poetry. I didn’t know I was crying out then, either. I’ve reread some of those poems I wrote in Senior Year, and I hug myself. That guy was struggling to be seen while hiding. I couldn’t tell her she - and my grades - were casualties in the war against my dad and society. She pulled me aside once, opening her grade book as I rounded her desk. “What the f**k is this,” she asked, pointing at a number of empty slots where numbers should have been. I wanted to spill the beans. Cry out. Divulge all my secrets. I was a trained assassin by then, though. I knew better. I couldn’t take the chance that she may side with the enemy. She was still kind to me. Always had a smile for me and a side-eye. She knew what she had in her student, she just couldn’t figure out how to unlock it and unleash it. You’re the greatest, Mrs. Williams. Thank you!

CHOI HYUNSUK
🐷 the english-language student tutor
🐷 hyunsuk would thank the deities when he found out he was tutoring you
🐷 will be such a giggly mess when he first tutors you bc his stomach is literally overflowing with butterflies
🐷 definitely took this as a sign from the universe since he got to tutor his crush
🐷 would be the type to do lessons outside while going on a walk or smth
🐷 the world is your textbook, and you two are going on an adventure as you learnt more words through the experience
🐷 a very patient tutor, unless you repeat the same mistake multiple times constantly
🐷 but even his tantrums would be cute, so you might piss him off a few times
🐷 intentionally
🐷 hyunsuk would make sure not to force the work on you and have you learn at your own pace
🐷 definitely the type of tutor to reward after an exam
🐷 “if you score well, y/n, i will take you on a date to that restaurant we saw while studying out, okay?”
🐷 sis istg if you don’t get good grades, i will cry for you
PARK JIHOON
🐼 the korean-language student tutor
🐼 jihoon doesn’t seem like the type to tutor anyone at anything
🐼 but when he found out you needed a korean-language tutor, manz would come to class dressed in a suit as if he was applying for a job
🐼 i wish i was kidding about the suit part
🐼 bc in jihoon’s head, first impressions matter (even though you probably talked to him before) and therefore he came to class wearing a suit
🐼 “hey, y/n. i heard you needed a tutor for korean? i could teach you if you don’t mind.”
🐼 and let me tell you, only an insane person would decline this offer
🐼 MANZ CAME DRESSED IN A BLACK SUIT SHIRT TIE COAT AND ALL and you really gonna decline ??
🐼 jihoon is very confident in his teaching methods and surprisingly enough, his occasional flirting and smug comments actually helped you focus more on the subject
🐼 only bc you couldn’t meet his eyes and didn’t look up from your book
🐼 but along the line, you kinda fell for his personality and maybe even adopted a few of his traits
🐼 you might even pull a jihoon and ask him out on a date before he could ask you
🐼 flustered jihoon ; a sight i’d pay to see
KANEMOTO YOSHINORI
🐯 the music composition student tutor
🐯 yoshinori baby tiger best boi i’m sorry i just had to get it out there
🐯 manz actually wanted to become a kindergarten teacher before the whole idol she-bang so i can only assume he’d be a great teacher
🐯 very patient and kind when it comes to teaching
🐯 doesn’t get mad even if you ask him to repeat the same sequence a hundred times
🐯 music composition is something he loves doing, and teaching it to others would make him the absolute happiest person in the world
🐯 you were also a very focused person — doing your very best and giving your all to grasping the concept of music composition thoroughly
🐯 and yoshi would see that
🐯 perhaps would also fall for you bc of your passion for the subject
🐯 but yoshi being yoshi, he wouldn’t say anything or reveal any feelings until you were done with your music composition module
🐯 so after you finish your module (and also pass with flying colors) be prepared for the cutest confession ever
🐯 yoshi would 11/10 send you a recording asking you to rate it bc he wants to use it for a project and you’d comply, ready to do anything for the man who helped you pass your module
🐯 smooth vocals + lyrical rap + amazing composition + a little confession in the end = you falling for yoshi
🐯 “being your tutor was fun, y/n … but since your exam is over, why don’t we go on a date to keep seeing each other?”
🐯 SIR I AM SCREAMINGGGG
KIM JUNKYU
🐨 the practical music student tutor
🐨 like jihoon, junkyu wouldn’t be the type to tutor anyone — but the kid needed his extra credit
🐨 and when his professor informed him he could get extra points if he tutored someone from the junior batch, he’d happily comply
🐨 bc after all, how hard can it be to teach someone practical music?
🐨 and that was when junkyu was gifted with you, his amazing tutee
🐨 no i'm not kidding when i say amazing just hear me out
🐨 junkyu would go through all the basics together with you, working on your vocal training and everything
🐨 except you didn’t need any of that bc you were really good at everything he taught
🐨 “y/n … why do you need a tutor? you are already so good. i don’t know what more i could teach you!”
🐨 you realised your act was up — and that was fine bc you had prepared your heart for this moment
🐨 “well, i kinda like you. and when i heard you were looking for someone to tutor for extra credit, i signed up.”
🐨 junkyu would burst into the cutest giggles, completely in awe at the extent you went to just bc you crushed on him
🐨 “you are such a cute idiot, y/n. you could’ve just told me, silly.”
🐨 yes kiddo, let’s scream together AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
TAKATA MASHIHO
🐹 the liberal arts student tutor
🐹 aka the very cute-looking but very strict tutor
🐹 except when you make mistakes — bc that’s when mashi smiles like an idiot bc he finds you cute
🐹 “noo … media frames is the ability of the media to influence the public. how did you even come up with photo frames? actually don’t answer.”
🐹 teaching you is something mashiho found amusing bc you grasped the difficult concepts with ease, but always jumbled the easiest topics
🐹 as the days passed, you only kept getting worse at retaining whatever concepts were taught to you by mashi
🐹 AND BOI DID HE NOTICE yes he did
🐹 your exams were nearing too, and he was concerned, seeing you couldn’t focus on your tutoring session like you used to
🐹 “hey, y/n? is anything bothering you? ik it isn’t my place to ask or anything, but you aren’t working like you used to, and i wanna know why.”
🐹 AND ON ANY OTHER DAY your heart would’ve swollen bc wah takata mashiho is concerned about you yippee-ki-yay
🐹 but you couldn’t have that today NOPE and why tf not you may think
🐹 WELL THAT’S BC THE REASON YOU ARE DISTANT AND NOT FOCUSING WELL IS BC OF MASHIHO duh ?? like he’s so cute and good-looking and smart and beaUTIFULLL DONNA KESHIKI MO~
🐹 ahem excuse me pardon me i had a little smth in my throat ANYWHO you were distracted by mashiho and since he was so concerned you couldn’t help but tell him the reason
🐹 “it’s not a big deal, but idk i guess i have a crush on you, and i can't stop thinking about you. so it’s just kinda hard to focus when you teach me bc you are too good-looking that you make my mind malfunction.”
🐹 mashiho would nod understandingly, looking at the ceiling as he pretended to ponder over your words — which kinda made you nervous bc you just confessed and this manz seems like he’s tryna analyse your confession like an english teacher
🐹 “how about we make a deal? if you get less than 60s, i’ll take you out for dinner. but if you get more than 60s, i’ll be your boyfriend.”
🐹 girl i will start a prayer circle for you so you get above 60s
YOON JAEHYUK
🦁 the chinese-language student tutor
🦁 why did i choose chinese? idek jae just gives me them vibes
🦁 jaehyuk is overall a sweet guy, but when it comes to teaching, he is a little more strict
🦁 only bc he wants the best for you
🦁 jaehyuk got into tutoring to make some cash in his free time, but he’d definitely give his all to anyone he tutors — bc he’s just nice like that
🦁 but for you … things were a little more special bc he kinda had a crush on you
🦁 and by little more special i mean jaehyuk excessively teasing you and being sarcastic whenever you screwed up
🦁 “aigoo, y/n. don’t you even know what ‘thank you’ is? it’s literally one syllable repeated twice.”
🦁 but if you pout or remotely do anything that depicts you are sad at what he said … instant change of yoon jaehyuk
🦁 “you know what? it’s my bad. i wasn’t a good enough teacher. let’s just go through it again.”
🦁 even your smallest accomplishment is glorified, which actually motivates you to do better bc you feel better about yourself
🦁 and no, jaehyuk isn’t magnifying your progress bc he knows you get motivated
🦁 no, manz does it bc he genuinely appreciates your effort and is proud of how far you have come and are doing
🦁 “do i just have to be your chinese tutor, tho? can't i be your boyfriend who helps you with your chinese while also doing stuff boyfriends do?” he’d confess while rambling one day after a tutoring session with you
🦁 you panicked and went “xie xie” (meaning; thank you) suddenly remembering all the chinese lessons you did with jaehyuk
🦁 “i’m gonna take that as a ‘yes’ for being your boyfriend. say xie xie’ again to confirm.”
🦁 bruh if you don’t say the word istg i will come for your ankles
HAMADA ASAHI
🤖 the art student tutor
🤖 silent, mysterious and very talented ; aka mr robo-sahi
🤖 you heard a lot of rumors from other students, but you brushed them aside and gladly accepted when you found out he would be your art tutor for the last semester
🤖 asahi would be very silent throughout your tutoring sessions, only speaking when you asked a question or to explain smth but even then it’d be very soft ok first rumor about sahi being mute; eliminated
🤖 more tutoring sessions would pass, and though you did better in art, you felt like nothing changed with asahi — he was the same mysterious silent tutor you had in the beginning of these two weeks
🤖 not even a smile or laugh came from this man, but whenever you saw him with his friends, he had a really cute gummy smile rumor #2 of him having no emotions ; eliminated — and even messed around with some meme faces, but none of that came when he was with you
🤖 heck, he always spoke in whispers, so you never really heard his proper voice either
🤖 it was very trustfrating
🤖 truth was that asahi kinda had a crush on you, and being your tutor, he thought he wouldn’t be able to do it if he opened up and acted like he did with his friends — so he did what he did best and put on an emotionless face and had the minimalistic interactions with you
🤖 after around a month of tutoring sessions, you finally got the courage to ask him about why he never smiled or spoke properly when he was with you
🤖 “this is really weird, but you always speak in whispers. and you never smile either. i just want to know if you don’t like me or anything. bc if i’m making you uncomfortable, then we don’t have to do these tutoring sessions anymore.”
🤖 “it’s actually pretty much the opposite. you make me feel very comfortable … and i kinda like you. but you don’t have to say anything about it bc those are my feelings, and you don’t have to be burdened.”
🤖 dude if you don’t take him on a date after this cuteass rambling confession i'm gonna steal your blankets
BANG YEDAM
🦊 the dramatic arts student tutor
🦊 fun fact; i have done elocution from london academy of music and dramatic arts when i was small — it was very fun
🦊 yedam seems to fit the theatre kid vibe, and that’s exactly what we are doing here
🦊 all the newbies to the club were paired with the kids who had done dramatic arts for a long time since the newcomers were a lot for the teachers to handle
🦊 so there you are with your student tutor, yedam, in the corner of the room, going through various emotion cards while you acted out the lines in the paper you held
🦊 yedam was impressed with your skills and knew instantly you’d play a lead role — since he was a lead himself — and a lead knows a lead when they see one ‘;)
🦊 fast forward to multiple tutoring sessions later, where yedam teaches you the various techniques of conveying your emotions using different tones and pitches
🦊 AND YOU ABSOLUTELY EATING UP EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM AND DOING THE BEST YOU CAN which is amazing btw may i add
🦊 with each tutoring session, yedam fell for you more than the last, and it was becoming crazily evident — and if it weren’t for you believing it was only yedam acting, you would’ve figured it out too
🦊 and lucky for you, mr bang yedam had a slipup while acting out a scene with you
🦊 “i feel so confused whenever i think about you, and my head feels like it’s going to explode. you’ll probably think i’m such a sappy idiot, but i can't seem to do anything without you. you are the best part of my day, y/n.”
🦊 your eyes went wide as soon as your name left his lips, surprised bc that was when you realised he wasn’t acting — sure, it could’ve been a mistake, but you knew his body language all-too-well now to know that he genuinely meant every word he said
🦊 you awkwardly held onto the papers in your hand, frozen like a statue even tho you weren’t the one who confessed their feelings
🦊 “yk for a really talented person, you sure can't handle an impromptu confession.” yedam would smoothly try covering it up, making you confusedly look at him
🦊 “that was an impromptu?” you asked, checking bc you still had your suspicions
🦊 “i mean, if you felt uncomfortable bc of it, then we can pretend it was an impromptu. i’m alright with that.”
🦊 sis i'm bouta bust into that club and kidnap you if you are gonna pretend the confession never happened
KIM DOYOUNG
🐰 the practical dance student tutor
🐰 since the practical dance professor was not present, senior students were paired with the juniors to work on the syllabus, since they had more time on their hands
🐰 and doyoung obv didn’t enjoy staying in one place — and didn’t miss the chance to socialize and make friends — so he signed up for the tutor/tutee program
🐰 which he regretted once he saw he was gonna be tutoring you
🐰 you were the nameless person he had a crush on after repeatedly seeing you around school
🐰 wherever he went, you were somehow there, and the repeated incidences — along with a lot of stalker-ish observing from doyoung (which I do not condone unless it’s not creepy and just harmless observing) — the boi kinda fell for you
🐰 he saw how kind you were to everyone and how polite you were when you spoke
🐰 you had the prettiest eyes, the cutest laugh, and the most contagious smile — it’s evident at this point that either i or doyoung have fallen for you
🐰 let’s go with doyoung for this sake of this writing :) <3
🐰 doyoung is a naturally charming and funny person — but for you, he would try 10x as hard bc he really wanted to make a good impression
🐰 a splash *tips over the whole bottle* of flirting while he teaches you the basics of contemporary dancing
🐰 doyoung seems like a very clumsy teacher, kinda forgetting certain steps along the way and only teaching it later on — which would be confusing, but you are smart so you got it down
🐰 11/10 would come up with freestyle dances that require partners (for your evaluation tests) so that you two could spend more time together and get closer yes, quite literally
🐰 his tactics worked bc within a month or so, you had mcfallen for kim doyoung
🐰 but that had its downfalls too bc you lost a lot of focus with all the ddukdduk your heart was going whenever you saw him — so you did what you thought best and asked for a change of tutors
🐰 doyoung would be so surprised bc he was sure you showed an interest in him, so why did you ask for a change? he’d definitely ask you about it
🐰 “well, i might have a crush on you and you being so close isn’t good for my heart, so that’s why i need a change of tutors.”
🐰 “oh, don’t worry about that, y/n. i’m willing to be your boyfriend too. if you accept that offer, then a bonus would be that i can also be your dance partner. how does that sound?”
🐰 yes, it took a few tries for doyoung to get that sentence out and for you to understand it — but the summary is that an offer was made
🐰 and binch you better accept or else your ankles will be compromised
WATANABE HARUTO
🦙 the japanese-language student tutor
🦙 confused kid half of the time
🦙 like sure japanese is his mother-tongue no biggie but where and how does he start
🦙 haruto would be very shy at first — he would barely talk with you and just teach you, not even checking if you grasped the concept
🦙 but along the line as you progressed, making mistakes as you learnt, ruto became less shy around you
🦙 would definitely make more jokes once you let loose around him — bc now he knows you are comfortable too
🦙 occasional under-his-breath “kawaii~” whenever you did smth that was endearing to him
🦙 haruto would be the absolute proudest whenever you finished a lesson and would smile to himself as you cheered for yourself
🦙 except he would slightly tease you — not really showing how proud he was of you for completing the lesson
🦙 “that’s just a beginner’s lesson. anyone can do that. let’s move on to these lessons. now if you complete this, maybe we can consider you as a smart person.”
🦙 you’d definitely work harder bc now learning japanese wasn’t the goal; it was getting a compliment from haruto
🦙 it would be almost a year of learning japanese, and you still didn’t get a compliment from haruto — which kinda demotivated you since your lessons were ending
🦙 “y/n … since you are almost done learning japanese … is there anything you’d like from me once you are done?” haruto would ask one day out of the blue
🦙 you nodded immediately, finally getting the chance. “the day i give my test and walk out, i want you to give me a compliment. is that too much to ask?”
🦙 haruto shook his head, giving you a smile. “okay, deal. now study well to earn that compliment.”
🦙 on the day of your fluency test, haruto waited outside the exam hall until you came. it was an instantaneous test, so you got your results as soon as you did the test — and that was kinda terrifying in a way
🦙 haruto would watch you with observant eyes as you walked towards him, holding your test in your hands
🦙 “I PASSED THE TEST WITH 100% FLUENCY! I DID IT, WATANABE HARUTO! NOW GIVE ME MY COMPLIMENT!” you screamed loudly, not even caring as everyone looked at you in surprise
🦙 “i’m proud of you. i love your determination. it’s one thing about you i fell for. and if you don’t mind, i’d like to take you on a date … and maybe i’ll tell you the other things i love about you.”
🦙 broski you did it and i'm proud of you
PARK JEONGWOO
🐺 the music theory student tutor
🐺 very well prepared for the tutoring session, but don’t worry, it’s only for the first ten classes
🐺 jeongwoo would do his best to prepare for tutoring you, and would even go to the extent of making sure he made a good impression by wearing semi-formal clothes and maybe even some glasses
🐺 you were a very cheery and friendly person, so jeongwoo felt at ease once you two met a few times
🐺 and you got to see the real jeongwoo quite quickly since he was more comfortable
🐺 11/10 would tease you if you ever messed up your notes or got a question wrong
🐺 but like jaehyuk, jeongwoo would quickly fix his comment if he saw you weren’t happy with the way he teased you
🐺 “you don’t know what’s a bar? pfft y/n, you — wait, actually i don’t think i have taught you that before. okay, it’s my fault. i'm sorry.”
🐺 he’s really good at explaining the subject, so you’d catch onto everything easily — which actually made him go through your syllabus slower bc he didn’t want to cover everything quickly
🐺 jeongwoo enjoyed spending time with you, and he needed a little more time to wrap his head around the fact
🐺 definitely kinda seems the type to make up excuses once he realises he might have a crush on you — bc 1) he’s conducting an experiment with himself to see if it’s true, 2) he doesn’t know how to break it to you and 3) he doesn’t know if he should even tell you
🐺 after a week of no tutoring sessions and minimal texting, jeongwoo concluded his self experiment
🐺 he has a crush on you ; confirmed so do i tho
🐺 “maybe we shouldn’t do this anymore. i don’t think i can tutor you, y/n. i might get a heart attack at this rate.” the last few words were very quiet, but you caught on and realised the situation
🐺 and you quickly acted upon it bc you would not lose the chance where your crush liked you back too
🐺 “do you think you can tutor me if i liked you too, jeongwoo?”
🐺 a definite yes and vigorous nods from the boi
🐺 yay you are with the park jeongwoo, yes you are welcome
SO JUNGHWAN
🐮 the general student tutor
🐮 ok general tutor bc you joined your school a term late and your teacher paired you with junghwan to help you catch up before the year-end exams
🐮 junghwan misunderstood the whole thing at first, and simply handed you photocopies of all his notes for the subjects and walked away after bowing politely
🐮 you ran behind him, thanking him for the notes before asking when you two should meet for discussing the subjects
🐮 to which he went ??? bc he thought he was only supposed to hand you the notes ??? what are these discussions you speak of ???
🐮 “well, mr kim said you’d tutor me in the stuff i missed bc some topics can't be self-studied. you are so junghwan, right? did i get the wrong person?”
🐮 confused and surprised super king cow baby
🐮 “oh, no, no. i am so junghwan. i thought i had to just give the notes … um, but we can study together, if you are fine with it? idk how much i can help but we can try!”
🐮 he’d kick his nervousness aside to give you a straight answer, knowing you were probably more panicked than him
🐮 heck, you were a new kid who joined in the middle of the year — that’s scarier than his shyness around new students
🐮 “let’s start from tomorrow! library after school?”
🐮 AND THAT IS THE START OF YOUR LOVE STORY i mean tutoring sessions
🐮 although by the end of the year, you two would definitely have hinted enough for literally EVERYONE AROUND YOU to know that y’all have a crush on each other
🐮 and junghwan’s hyungs and your friends would tell you two about it
🐮 “y/n clearly likes you! and you do too! go ask them out!”
🐮 “junghwan smiles like an idiot every time you laugh. if that’s not a crush, it must be insanity. you got nothing to lose! tell him how you feel!”
🐮 you read it broseph tell hwanie how you feel my job here is done
