Other Senses
Today my art work is about other senses.
When I go through the PowerPoint on the canvas over and over again, I realize that many art works are presented in the form of videos. That made me very confused. I think it is should be better when there is only sound, so that people will be more focused on sound. But it seems that many sounds cannot be separated from vision, even if it have many soundmarks, like the sound of tap. It is very obvious that I recorded this video in Fisher Library. But by the sound, such as the sound of washing my hands, and the sound of Fisher Library’s doors and so on. It seems to be difficult to determine where I am or what I am doing. So I think sometime only rely on the sense of hear is very confusing. Hearing is related to other senses, so when we are creating, we not only need to consider sound, but also other ways of perception. The relative art work, which give me that kinds of idea is Wave of matter.
Because for me, it creates a huge difference between auditory and visual aspects. From an auditory perspective, it can be rain or waves, but it is unlikely to be steel balls.

The first trip with Länsimetro, part 3 – Aalto University and Keilaniemi. The Helsinki metro extension to Espoo, the so called Länsimetro (The Western Metro), was opened for public transportation on Saturday, November 18. In the previous posts we visited Matinkylä, Niittykumpu, Urheilupuisto and Tapiola stations.
Now , in this post we will visit the last two stations in Espoo: Aalto University (Aalto yliopisto) and Keilaniemi. Aalto University station is located in the heart of University Otaniemi campus - previously that of Helsinki University of Technology, my Alma mater.
Keilaniemi station is in the area, where there are many high-tech and other companies. Above the platform area there is the LED light tube art work “Light Weave” by the artist duo Tommi Grönlund and Pentti Nisunen (Grönlund-Nisunen). It is probably the most praised installation in the new stations.

photography by Andrea Rossetti
Unstable Matter is kinetic sculpture by Finnish artists Tommi Grönlund and Petteri Nisunen, a.k.a. Grönlund-Nisunen. The moving table contains thousands of small ball bearings that move and crash within the confines of a giant wobbly table, sort of a modern take on a rain stick. The table is part of several kinetic and magnetized works by the duo that were recently on view at Esther Schipper in Berlin.

freq-out is a sound art collective founded and curated by CM Von Hausswolff in 2003, and it primarily creates site specific sound installations. JG Thirlwell has been a member of the group since its inception.
The latest iteration of freq_out is freq_out 11, designed for interactivity on the internet through the Copenhagen based online radio station The Lake. It consists of a web-mixer and twelve unique and looped minor compositions that may be heard separately or altogether, depending on the mixer faders positions and the web-composer (this being the person behind the computer of course).
Participating artists are JG Thirlwell, Jana Winderen, Mike Harding, Maia Urstad, Permagnus Lindborg, BJ Nilsen, Christine Ödlund, Finnbogi Petursson, Tommi Grönlund & Petteri Nisunen, Anna Ceeh & Franz Pomassl, Jacob Kirkegaard and Kent Tankred.
Go to freq_out 11 here To operate the mixer, move the small squares up and down with your cursor - those are your faders.
