June 28 2019 Barcelona

I was glad to have time to clean the apartment after the Terrys left to prepare for our next visitor, our longtime friend, Martha Freeman, from Boulder.  We all worked together at NBI in the late 70s and, after we left for other career paths, have stayed friends for over forty years.

Martha arrived yesterday afternoon and, since the airlines lost her luggage, we spent most of the afternoon shopping for something for her to wear until her luggage showed up.  Today we took the metro into the Eixample area of the city, where we walked around looking at the beautiful architecture and had lunch on Rambla Catalunya, one of my favorite parts of the city.  After lunch we walked to Barri Gottic, the old Roman and Gothic part of the city, and found that Gay Pride week was being celebrated everywhere, with flags even on the government buildings in Plaza Jaume Primer.

Claire joined us and, while Martha visited the big cathedral, we had our French class and then continued it while walking through Barri Gottic with Martha.  It had been a while since Martha had spoken French but she understood a lot of what we were saying

Barcelona...David’s first trip outside England!!! Surprinsingly, he hasn’t been too fussy on the plane (his favorite cartoons and favorite food helped a lot:))

We’ve spend most of the time outdoors visiting Parc Guell, La Sagrada Familia (just the outside); walking on La Rambla, Gottic Quarter; chillin’ on Barceloneta Beach (after changing David’s nappy, getting all covered in poo and sand, while David was screaming and jumping:))
