TeeTime; Second Time

Hey everyone, welcome back to TeeTime. As you know, here we are all about vintage T-shirts and love to explore the booming trend that is vintage fashion. The current popularity of vintage is almost unbelievable, and everyone wants a piece of the pie. Many retailers are now designing garments that mimic the style and look of vintage garments in order to capitalize on the trend. Many of these pieces still look great, however they are not exactly what we are looking for. A true vintage T-shirt has a history, and we’re going to help you discover it.

In this blog we are going to be discussing the best places to find vintage T-shirts. As an LA based blog, our face-to-face retail shopping options are going to be for local residents, however we will also discuss online retailers where similar and even better pieces can be found. Due to the rise of vintage style, there are so many ways to acquire these amazing pieces and we will do our best to help you find your grails.

The first, most expensive, (and best) way to find amazing vintage T-shirts are in vintage stores. Places like Vintage by Round Two and Varsity LA have curated selections of tees that their staff spends long hours to find at vintage warehouses. The garments here are definitely not things you see every day. Each shirt has a history of wear and only the best manage to make it on to the shelves. If you are looking for something one-of-a-kind, these are the places to go. If you are in the LA area or have access to local vintage stores, develop relationships with the owners if possible and try to get dibs on their new arrivals. Once a shirt leaves the store, you might never see anything like it again.

If you don’t have access to a local vintage store or you are looking for an even wider variety of products, online retailers are a great place to go.  When it comes to vintage T-shirts, the best place to start online is Grailed. Other second hand resale websites like Ebay and Depop do occasionally have some exceptional garments, however they are still far behind Grailed. Grailed is a website and app for buying and selling high-end secondhand menswear and streetwear and the pieces on there are often extremely rare (and expensive). The “store” is run by individuals who have vintage pieces they are trying to sell. The community on Grailed is unmatched, and so are the items they have to offer.

The most traditional way to shop vintage is local flea markets. In the past, flea markets were far and away the best way to find hidden gems. Pieces at the flea market could be found for extremely cheap prices despite having incredible historical significance and of course beautiful style. In LA, the Rose Bowl Flea Market was and continues to be the mecca for vintage t-shirts. Although knowledge of the Rose Bowl Flea market has increased drastically, causing a lot of its incredible value to diminish, it remains as the best place to find amazing vintage pieces for cheap. If price is your biggest concern, flea markets are your best option for finding the styles you are looking for. However, the trade off of low prices comes with the lack of curated styles, and unfortunately some trips to the flea market end empty handed. 

Vintage by Round Two

The rise in popularity of vintage clothing has made desirable pieces hard to come by. Everyone is buying, and little is being “produced.” The time to find vintage pieces is now, and hopefully we have helped you along the way. To keep up with all things TeeTime, meet us right back here next week.

#LupulStyle: Hockey Meets Fashion

GOTSTYLE Menswear has partnered up with stylish Toronto Maple Leaf left wing Joffrey Lupul for a one-of-a-kind interactive fashion initiative called #LupulStyle.

Before every Toronto Maple Leafs home Game Day, GOTSTYLE will suit up the handsome hockey star with stylish suits, shirts and ties and give people a chance to vote on their favourite looks. 

Each look can be rated from 1 to 4 pucks; for every vote submitted, GOTSTYLE and Lupe's Troops will make a donation to the True Patriot Love Foundation in support military families across Canada. 

Joffrey’s style icons include actors George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Ryan Gosling but we're willing to bet he'll be giving these icons a fair run for the title of who looks best in a suit. 

The unthinkable has finally happened — hockey and fashion have finally crossed paths and the results are amazing!
