STATUS: IT’S GARBAGE DAY

So she thought about it. And she thought about it.  And she thought about it. And the more she thought about it, the more grateful she realized she was for it. The more evident it became that she so appreciated Trish’s decision to actually tell her to stop doing something so stupid detrimental to her life. So she did! And does, shockingly.

Which is why Trish comes over to the obnoxious accoutrements Alana attempts in gratitude. Well, more than gratitude-- let her be honest that she has intention on a complex number of layers. Several, really. Starting at the ground level, she just-- wants to prove she’s not the mess she was back in Baltimore. And the kitchen’s dimly lit-- was that antique candelabra necessary? No, it isn’t, but she found it. And the excessively complex vegetarian paella recipe, the vanilla bean creme brulee she worked hard for, the kind of overly elegant coffee from the French Press meticulously made. Of course, everything is perfect.

Did she mention her bedroom is overdone? Did she mention it’s strung up with fairy-lights? How embarrassing is that, what respectable forty-four year old woman decorates her bedroom with fairy-lights? This one does-- they’re soft, impeccably well-placed, a soft, white light. And she doesn’t think she wants to stop kissing Trish-- which is a brave, brave thing she decided to, something that took a level of courage for someone who has just felt like she decided to end her career entirely and create a new one.

(She always admires Trish’s elegance, has she told her that? Silk blouses and soft things and this artful talent for being comfortable but also beautiful.)

Hands curl tenderly at a silk blouse and tug closer-- little heart skip, beat, beat, beat. She always finds herself seeking for that usual confidence and she finds it once she takes the moment to reach around for it.

She’s still kissing Trish when her own hands reach down to undo a button-- there are only two on the vest, after all. It’s all such, such a shade of pearl. She doesn’t stop, even when she shrugs out of it. Her hair is raven black, and in contrast to bright red lipstick it’s all very startling against her skin. Snow white, all grown up, riddled with scars. She reminds herself to breathe.
