Not sure if anyone has added this but i'm gonna list some emergency items that i keep in my car for situations like a blown tired or really anything under the sun
(mind you i travel a whole lot so some of these might not be necessary for most people)
• flashlight (keep the batteries out of it so they don't corrode or just drain)*
•gloves (something very durable, if yiu have to deal with glass or metal shards you do not need cuts or blisters)*
•multi-tool*
•knife (for your own protection and for any cutting that's needed)*
•jumper cables*
•hand towel*
•road flares (especially if you are like me and are out in the middle of nowhere a lot)
•tire gauge*
•mini fire extinguisher
•first aid kit (if you take any medication, pack some extras in there too!)*
•tow rope
i put stars* next to stuff that i think you should definitely keep in your care for emergencies. this isn't an extensive list and i'm pretty sure im missing a few things that i carry with me but ya. again most of this is just cause i travel and need to be prepared
some of these might be obvious for some of you but let me tell ya. i know for sure that half my friends probably dont even have a flashlight or first aid in there cars
in the same spirit as those posts reminding you to drink some water and take your meds:
if you have a car, when’s the last time you checked your spare tire? because i know at least two people who’ve recently discovered that they couldn’t actually access their spare because they’d misplaced the necessary tool or some other thing. check your spare tire!! make sure you’ll be able to use it when you need it!!!
#also got a story#drove ~2000miles from home on a trip#my spare tire was completely deflated and i ordered a new tired but it wouldn't come till after my trip but i just thought#'eh it's fine i'll be careful'#it was not fine#got to my destination and something happened with my front right tire#it started loosing pressure (not too fast) and would idle at about 20psi#(mind you i've got a big car and it's got some weight added from the roof tent and other camping shit)#was again like 'eh i'll be okay there's a gas station with an air pump close by i'll just use that whenever'#flash forward to the last day on the trip and was driving up a mountain#stupid bitch in the other lane was swerving into my lane and instead of me hitting her i hit the mountain wall#scrapped my front right rim up pretty bad which most likely cause the air to escape EVEN MORE#was STILL like 'that's okay we're okay yup'#started driving home and after a bit of stress and fighting with my friend we ended up buying a portable air oump at walmart for like $70#and drove the ~2000miles back home while having to stop every 30mins to pump my tire#it was exhausting but looking back kinda funny

Ready to Go
I always thought I would die young. I just don’t forsee a long life ahead for me. It’s not like sad or anything I just think I’ve done all I wanted to. There’s never been like a dream job or goal I’ve ever foresaw in my future. It’s not depression or anything, if anything I think more people should be honest with themselves about being useless and just tapping out of a long life of nothingness.
See. You’ve read this long and didn’t even notice I haven’t mentioned my name. That’s because like my life, my name is equally inconsequential.
I was pondering about ways to easily tap out of life while I sat at the bus stop waiting. Eventually I got on the bus at my usual stop to take me to my usual destination when an older white man slowly waved his hand in front of my wandering gaze.
“What’s out there?” he feebly asked in a weak voice.
I’ve never been asked something on my route before. I kinda just zone out into my own mind like this and-
“Hey kid. You keep zoning out are you okay?” he interrupted my internal thought.
It’s like he knew I was talking to myself but how?
“I’m just in my own head. Sorry did you want the window seat?” I finally replied audibly.
“No. Just making sure you’re okay. Was worried you were one of those druggies or something. Whole life ahead of you and you youngins just throw it all away.”
What a presumptive thought. He really believes that young people can’t have a complex and existential inner dialogue. I think older people don’t give us enough credit. I’m complex, I think.
*hehe*
What’s he laughing at. Wait maybe he is listening to my inner dialogue? Let’s see. Lemme think of something and see how he responds. I don’t want to die, I just want to peacefully tap out of the game of existence.
Damn nothing? He isn’t going to say anything? I’m losing my mind.
“Where do you want to go in life kid?”
HE HEARD ME I KNEW IT!
“I mean let’s say you manifested it enough. Maybe I’m here to help you move on. The worst thing you can do is live a life unfulfilled. It seems like that’s how you’re living.”
“You can’t be serious…What can you do?”
“It’s not really me, more like a pact to the deities that rule existence. It’s the law of the land. Everything in this world is all about balance. Even our lives, if one aspect is out of balance it could throw the whole world out of whack.”
“So what’s out of balance? Just because I’m tired of being aimless in life? It’s not like I’m the only aimless one right?”
“Maybe you’re not the only one, but you’re the only aimless one put in my life. I have so much I wanted to do but spent too much time wasted. I wanted kids, I wanted love, I wanted it all but got sick and spent years withering away in a hospital bed.”
….why is he telling me all this? What can I do about the law of the land? If I could help him I would but he’s talking about myths and hocus pocus.
The bus made an abrupt stop next to a big park near a historical reserve in town. The old man grabbed my arm and dragged me with him off the bus, across the street to the park.
“Dude your boney arm is hurting me. I’ll follow you just let me go”
“We’re here anyway. I can feel one of the deity’s presence around us. All you have to do is say your true hearts desire out loud for it to become true. You can’t move on and I can get a chance to fix my life’s shortcomings.”
My true hearts desire? Doesn’t he get it my problem is I don’t have a desire. There’s nothing fueling me.
“That! Say that out loud.”
“I KNEW YOU COULD HEAR ME! But how?”
“Your inner dialogue was calling to me like a siren. I’m telling you I was meant to hear it. To run into you! This moment was meant to happen.”
Honestly resisting the occult is too much work anyway. I don’t know why I’m even poking and prodding into his story. What is it going to do for me in the end? He’s offering me a way out.
“I don’t have desire. I don’t have a goal. I’m not sad, I’ve lived an okay life but I’m done.”
“I want a real chance to live life. I payed my dues. Please all I ask for is a real chance.”
If felt like all the sounds of nature stopped. The sun suddenly disappeared and it felt like a spotlight appeared above us. All I could see was the old man when he disappeared in front of me. It all disappeared in front of me. Then silence. Well everything was silent from then on. My request to tap out was granted.

“Keven. I like that name, I definitely look like a Keven now. This is a good place to start I think?”
I feel bad that a young person could fall out of love with existing. There’s so much young people have to live for and he just wanted to die? I’ll live the best live for the both of us.
I’m quite the looker now too so that should probably help on the having kids and starting a family front. Although he’s a little short for my liking. You know what no I’m going to be grateful for this new life I’ve been given. There’s still some memories in my head that belong to him. I think he might be gay….well I never got to explore those things in my time but it doesn’t help the kids dream.

Whatever I think starting today I’m going to be Bi. I’m gonna search through these memories and continue working out. Seems like it has a positive impact on people’s outlook and morale. Maybe that’s where the kid went wrong. He didn’t seek ways to be happy. I’m choosing happiness and choosing to be fulfilled.
Let’s start by jerking this thick beer can growing under my shorts though…and maybe seeing if this hot couple in the gym might want a newly confident Latino twunk third.

asra ♡ traveling.
i really struggled to find something for asra that suited, because they would honestly enjoy doing anything with you. it doesn't matter where you are or what time of day it is, as long as he has you by his side, then he's happy. and that is super evident in their route. and having just finished asra's route, i have been thinking; we all know that asra does a lot of traveling. and we all know that during those times, asra misses you terribly. they don't like being away from you for a long time, and as we go through asra's route, having all of these adventures and seeing so many new and cool places, we can see just how happy asra is to have you at their side. the joy shines through the screen, and i can feel just how happy he is to have you with him wherever you are. ergo, their favorite thing to do with you is to travel.
when the two of you started to travel together, asra was a bit nervous. he didn't know what to expect when you agreed to travel together without a destination in mind, and he was worried that somehow, some way, something would happen to you. what if you got kidnapped? what if you got hurt? what if you got sick? all sorts of thoughts were running through asra's head, but the more that they watched you grow and allowed you to take chances, the more that they realized that you would be okay. yes, any of those things could happen, but he is right there if you need him. they know that they will always be by your side to help you through any challenge, and care for you however you need it.
however, as the travels go on, he is reminded everyday that you are a strong, capable individual. they knew that before, of course, but seeing you solve all of the riddles and puzzles put in front of you, helping so many people and growing so much made it hit them like a truck. he was always too afraid to allow you to take chances before, in fear that you would get hurt. but they learned that if you didn't take chances, that you wouldn't grow. and the last thing that he wants is to stop you from being the best version of you that you can be.
so, they let you off of the leash. and just like a bird taking flight, you soared and took everything that came at you by storm. he watched you as you became braver, smarter, kinder and stronger. they always expected for you to be great, and they always had faith in you. he just needed to learn that in order to achieve that greatness, that he needed to let you do some things on your own. they needed to let you make your own mistakes and win your own battles, so that you could learn. and it was one of the best decisions that he's ever made. watching you become more independent and confident within yourself is one of the best feelings that they could ever be blessed to have. he feels so grateful that he is the person that you choose every single day, and no matter what, he will always choose you.

julian ♡ dancing.
at heart, julian is a romantic. almost every cliche romantic thing that you can think of, you have done with julian. picnics. karaoke, aquariums, painting classes, shopping, craft nights, not to mention all of the crazy adventures that you guys would get into together. every day, he wants to remind you why you fell for him, and in his opinion, keeping things lively is the best way to do that! above all, though, julian's favorite thing to do with you is to dance. he knew that you were a prodigy at dancing after the masquerade, but one night changes everything.
the two of you had actually taken dancing classes before this. you were actually the one who suggested it, and after teasingly accusing you of thinking that the two of you are horrible dancers, he agreed. he honestly didn't think that he could be more in love with you after that. you two went to the class, and julian could hardly ever tear his eyes off of you. the way that you moved was so naturally graceful, as if you had been a dancer your whole life. he most definitely showered you in attention and love after the class was over, and he knew that he had to arrange for the two of you to dance together more often.
oh but that night was not the night that he realized that this was his favorite thing to do with you, no no no no no. the night that he realized that dancing was his favorite activity to do with you was a night like many others; dinner at portia's. it was you, julian, portia and nadia, and you all decided to eat outside so that you could watch the stars. portia went into the cottage to check on the food, with nadia following close behind her, and julian figured that it was the perfect time to steal a sweet moment with you. so, he stood from his seat and knelt to one knee before you. with one hand on his chest and the other extended to you, he asked, "will you have this dance with me, my dear?"
you giggled and told him that there wasn't any music playing. what could you possibly dance to? oh how sweet you are. a chuckle symphonized from his chest, and he responded with, "oh my dear, we do have music." a gloved hand took yours and placed it over his heart, "right here." oh my gods, this absolute cheeseball. you playfully shoved his chest, moving backwards under the force but not falling onto his butt. he swiftly leans forward and takes the hand that shoved him, pulling you to your feet as he stood. one pair of hands intertwined while the others lay on your waist on his shoulder. you two started to sway together, as if you were in the masquerade. yes, you did technically dance at the masquerade, but julian wanted a more intimate experience. you didn't get to have a romantic ballroom dance thanks to the one we do not speak, and julian finds that absolutely outrageous!
your bodies glide beautifully amongst the grass and bushes, you take turns spinning each other around and laughing throughout. fireflies spring from the greenery wherever you set your feet, giving your figures a tender glow that julian found absolutely enchanting on you. after spinning through almost all of portia's front lawn, you find yourselves right back at group sitting spot. his arms have encircled your waist, keeping you close to him as your arms encircle his neck carefully. there are no long strides in this dance, no dramatic flair; just you and him rocking back and forth. his eyes stare into yours and his lips are curved into an adoring smile, as if by looking into your eyes, he could pour all of his love from him to you just through eye contact.
you mutter his name, he mutters yours, you lean in, and..portia pipes up. both her and nadia hold two bowls of soup, hot and ready. portia is mischievously smirking at the two of you while nadia admires your connection. julian tries to usher them away so that he can have more alone time with you, but you're quick to shut him down. begrudgingly, julian did, but all he could think about for the rest of the night was how beautiful you were dancing with him. your laughter singing into the air, the smile on your face, your gaze carving through the very core of his being. somehow, he was able to stay focused on the conversations that occurred that evening, but everyone, including you, could tell that he was going to be hung up on tonight for the next several weeks. when you got home, he was sure to steal a kiss from you later, and another dance.

nadia ♡ fashion shows.
ah, our beloved countess. at first, i planned on giving her shopping, seeing as her love language is gift giving, she would love to spoil the crap out of you with anything that you even glanced out. however, i wasn't happy with that idea. my boyfriend was actually the one who came up with the idea of fashion shows (hi vinny honey, i love you <3). he is such a freaking genius for this one bc OH MY GOSH YES. nadia has such beautiful taste in clothing, so she would absolutely love to host little fashion shows with you. she does like to share her clothes with her friends, but with you, it's special.
the original thought was you trying on nadia's clothes, and nadia trying on your clothes. nadia would feel like she is falling in love with you all over again if you tried on her clothes. all of the fabric would embrace you in such a perfect way, accentuating all of the things that she loves the most about you. gosh she would just be so head over heels,, she would clap every time you would walk out to show her what you chose, or what she selected for you because she just wanted to see you in it so bad. this woman is literally your number one supporter, she thinks that you are absolutely drop-dead gorgeous in everything that you choose to try on and cannot get enough of you in her clothes. she will shower you in compliments and praise of just how celestial you look, and it makes you super duper flustered because she just flatters you so much.
she also gets really shy when she tries on your clothes. all of her life, she has had the most expensive, well-made, stunning clothes that anyone could ever dream of. so, trying on clothes that do not fit under those categories is new to her. while she isn't used to not wearing the most lavish clothes to be found, she likes your sense of style and is always excited when you ask her to try on an ensemble of yours. what she worries about is what you think. she frets that you think it won't look good on her, if that isn't the farthest thing from the truth. when she walks out to you, you are in absolute awe of how beautiful she is. you already think that she can't get any prettier when she wears other outfits, but now this???? her in your clothes???? oh lord almighty you must be SAVED bc this woman has swept you off of your feet. she asks you what you think, and all you can do is walk up to her and smooch the ever-loving life out of her. you just love each other so much!!!!!
BUT WAIT, I'M NOT DONE. I HAVE MORE THOUGHTS.
when your group of friends have sleepovers at the palace, or when you all go out shopping together, it is unavoidable that you all will be having a fashion show where you all show off the clothes that you bought. nadia loves these so much because she gets to watch her friends all enjoy themselves and feel confident in their clothes, especially if she was the one who bought them. but with you, they just feel so different. to her, it is an intimate experience of being able to share your joy with one another. something that you value in your relationship with nadia is self-esteem, both yours and hers. not only do you both want to make each other feel good. but you also want to feel good within yourself. and nadia thinks that fashion shows are an important part of that. clothes are part of how one may express themselves and their identity, and that is something that nadia treasures. so, if showing off the clothes that you got is going to make you feel good about yourself, then she wants to be there to watch you. there is nothing more important to her than your happiness, and if going through outfit by outfit is what will make you happy, then so be it.
admittedly, she..also really likes to show you the new clothes she gets. when you first started dating, she was a bit nervous about it. she knew that you knew of her riches and lifestyle; it was lavish, and she only got the best of the best. she's the countess for crying out loud, so of course you knew that she was going to have everything that she wanted at her feet, even if it meant something that took literal years to find. but there was part of her that worried that you would see her money and think differently of her. she feared that you would judge her person based on her money, instead of the woman you fell in love with. when she told you this, you automatically reassured her that you wouldn't think differently of her at all. you would love her regardless of the amount of money she has, you told her. and this put her heart at ease, so she progressively became more comfortable showing off her wardrobe when you hosted your shows to each other. now, she doesn't hesitate to declare a fashion show after a shopping spree so that she can show you the lovely things that she got for herself. and every single time that you have one, you cannot believe that that is your girlfriend. you are just the luckiest person in the whole world to have someone like her, and she feels infinitely more lucky to have you.

portia ♡ watching the sunset.
this kind of feels like a given to me. portia is always talking about how she wants to sail the world and explore, both in the actual routes and in heart hunter. so sitting on the docks with you, watching the sun disappear behind the sea and talking about your dreams??? oh heck yes, count her in. she is really tired when she isn't working, so usually she spends her time trying to rest up and take care of things around her cottage. however, she wants to spend all of the time that she can with you. so, the two of you go on all sorts of lovely dates! shopping in the marketplace, teaching her about new herbs in the shop, seeing the new shows in the theater and heckling julian, all sorts of stuff!!!!! but portia's all time favorite part of your days together is when you go to the docks, take off your shoes, sit on the edge and talk while watching the sunset together.
portia has so many dreams, and so many things that she wants to do in her life. and she loves to tell you about all of them. she spends hours just ranting to you about all of the things that she wants to do, the places that she wants to see, the types of adventures that she wants to go on, and of course they all include you being there with her. oh gods you love listening to her,, every single word that she speaks are words that you carve into the stones of your memories. listening to her talk about her dreams is like watching the sun shine. greenery smiles under the glorious warmth and embraces her glimmer gratefully, her passion burns brightly and she is the most beautiful being in any realm to ever exist. she has no time to wonder if she's talking too much because she is far too focused on being with you, and loving every single moment of it. you truly hope that you are able to go on all of the adventures that she wants, so that you can experience every ounce of the world with her, until it all falls apart.
of course, she loves to listen to you. the time that you two spend at the docks is time to talk about anything that comes to mind, and she cannot help but adore you as you pour your heart out to her. when you speak of all of the things that you want to do before your time in this realm comes to a close, she watches and listens very intently. your voice to her is like a river, running smoothly through the canals of her mind and soothing the battering howl of her heart. her eyes twinkle with adoration as her elbow rests on her knee, her face leaning against her hand as she stares at you. everything that you tell her only makes her more excited for your future, because in your future, you include her. and that is all that she could ever truly want. you both truly love to listen to each other talk, not even just about your dreams, but about anything. even if it's something as small as dinner options or something that you saw at the market that you liked, you both love to hear anything and everything from each other. can you tell that the two of you are head over heels in love??
the first time that you sat at the docks together was a magical moment that portia will never forget. you two had just spent an amazing day together, and you wanted to rest by somewhere pretty before heading back home. so, portia suggested the docks to watch the sunset. you agreed, then took your shoes off and sat down. you conversed for hours, laughing and teasing each other. it is so obvious that you both are the other's favorite person to be around to everyone around you, you are both so comfortable with each other in the purest, most loving way. portia had taken her hair down, long curly locks of red flowing carefully down her back. as the sun caressed the ocean for a farewell kiss, the light made her look like she was a celestial being. freckled, pale skin bathes in orange, your own skin making you look just as radiant as she. you locked eyes with her, and all you could think about is just how much you love her. and her you, for she thought in that moment, that you were the most gorgeous person she had ever seen. she thinks that all of the time, but everything about that time was too perfect. your hands cupped her cheek, and her hands held your arms as you exchanged a beautifully passionate kiss. all of her love dumped into it as did yours, and it is something that portia will always remember. you two go to the docks a lot more to watch the sunset, and exchange plenty more kisses worth treasuring for the rest of your lives.

muriel ♡ nature walks.
OHHHHHH MURIEL!!! MY SHMOOPY POOPY DOOPY BEAR!! i love this man with all of my heart,, no one understands my love for him syufigubine. i didn't even have to think about this one, because i KNEW for a fact this our sweet boy would absolutely LOVE to go on nature walks with you. he isn't much of a people-person, so he doesn't really like going anywhere that crowds gather. which, in vesuvia, is a pretty hard thing to do, considering the fact that people are almost always out, doing something. so muriel doesn't like going anywhere where people are. the time that he spends with you is meant for you and you alone, not to be spent around a crap ton of strangers that push and shove and cram him into tight spaces. so anytime alone with you is time that he greatly cherishes. you had been wanting to find an activity that both you and muriel love doing that wouldn't make muriel anxious or uncomfortable, so you came up with the idea of nature walks.
when you brought it up to muriel, he accepted it right away. he would get to be around nature and spend time with you? that's all he ever really needs, honestly. he has been through the forest time and time again, he knows every crevice of it like the lines on his palms, yet when you went on your first nature walk together, everything about the forest seemed to change. the colors were brighter, the plants smelt richer, heck even the animals were out and about more when you two went out together. he didn't understand why, but it felt so much better being in the forest with you. you walked along and let the path take you wherever fate demanded. the sun peered through the leaves of the trees to allow life to breathe underneath it, the warmth of the day wrapping around you both like a blanket. he's gotten used to this forest after living in it for so many years, but with you, it felt like the most fascinating place to be.
he was a little worried because he figured that you would want to go out. not just to the forest, but to somewhere like the marketplace, the town square or even the rowdy raven. when he expressed his concerns, you reassured him that you didn't need to go out and do something. all you need is to be with him, and if this is the way that he is most comfortable spending time together, then so be it. you could walk all day, all night, for the rest of your lives in this forest together, as long as it meant that he was comfortable and happy. he smiled and thanked you for your reassurance, giving you a little kiss on the cheek before taking your hand and continuing your journey.
from that point forward, nature walks became a very regular part of your routine with muriel. it always starts with "wanna go on a walk?", and from that point forward, who knows what could happen. you two have found a lot of new things in that forest together. you've found lots of pretty flowers, greenery, rocks and animals that you didn't see before, new spots to relax in and even found little burrows and nests a couple of times!!! it's like a little adventure that isn't too far away from home, and muriel is more than happy to go on a walk at any time. it's almost always something new when the two of you go out together, and he thinks that that's what makes you so lovely. on most days, on his own, he wouldn't think twice about any of the things that you do. so, when you stop him to look at a pattern on a rock, or to admire a dandelion that you call a flower even though it's a weed, he takes his time to admire it with you, and he can't stop that sweet smile from curling onto his lips. seeing you in his favorite place is the most wonderful experience that he could ever ask for. he didn't believe that he was deserving of wonderful experiences before, but now that he has you, he wants to think differently.

Oz Cobb x falcone daughter reader.
contains spoilers for the last chapter.
English is not my first language, sorry for the mistakes :(.
I hate Oz, but that hate make me write this.
I love you; i'm sorry.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/72ba3d2326fa583c7ef2616632c2a55e/214f9d3002207d49-d8/s540x810/d804f547f98de5bd033a6f616db16ee2382cdbfe.jpg)
A tired sigh left her lips. She felt all her bones ache as she walked looking for her husband and Vic. She smiled just thinking about them. Vic had won her heart in so many ways. Victor would be someone powerful in the future, and she would be there to support him along with Oz.
She saw them in the distance talking; she quickened her pace so she could join in the conversation, only to stop moments later; her whole body paralyzed, even stopping breathing for a few seconds as she witnessed what was happening in front of her. Her heart was begging to stop Oz from what he was doing, but her mind assured her there was a reason behind it.
Seeing Oz kill Victor with his bare hands left her vulnerable. She turned her back to them as she put a hand to her mouth, covering her sobs. She cried silently until she stopped hearing Vic struggle. She heard the body falling to the ground and tried to wipe her tears quickly as she turned around. She saw Oswald going through Vic's wallet, throwing away his ID, and pulling out the money he had.
Her husband's eyes met hers as she walked over to them.
"May I say a final goodbye?" She asked in a whisper, and felt the tears forming in her eyes again.
Oswald looked at him for a few seconds before nodding.
"Sure, doll, but make it quick."
She reached down, caressing Vic's face, lovingly and sadly. She rested her forehead with his.
"In another life you will not have this fate; I hope your family waited for you."
She kissed his cheek, not caring about getting it wet with her tears. She looked up to see Oswald offering her his hand; she took it with a slight tremor. She looked for the last time at the young man who brought smiles to her face when she was sad, the young man who always helped her reconcile with Oswald, the young man who had so much to live for but got involved with the wrong people.
They began to walk away, but without seeing him one last time, she sighed heavily, knowing that this was only the beginning with the new ruler of Gotham.
Victor's death created a before and after; she squeezed Oz's hand tightly and looked at him.
"He did something wrong, right?"
"Yes, doll, he couldn't come with us this time."
And she believed him. Victor earned a place in her heart, but Oz had a bigger place and always will.
At that moment she remembered his father's words.
"Some people were not born for this life, others were always destined and only one wins the power."
As they walk away a proud smile appears on her face, her husband won that power.

[5:30 AM]
Your alarm clock went off. You were incredibly tired and had almost no energy to the lack of food in your body. Yet this was your chance to get back up, again. So, you got up, showered, brushed your teeth, got dressed, then went over to your fridge. There was literally nothing in there, besides some spoiled milk. You figured you’d just get something cheap at a store on your way out.
[6:45 AM]
As you were walking towards the place, which happened to be very close to where you lived, you stopped at a store and got an iced coffee. You really didn’t have much money left now. As you continued walking towards your destination you were starting to get a bit confused. This place seemed…familiar. You looked up and noticed you were at the famous JYP building. You laughed and thought you might have typed the address in wrong. So, you stopped walking for a second and tried to type in the address again. It did in fact gave the same results. So, you decided to call Felix.
Felix and Chris were waiting for you to arrive, but since there were a bit early, they decided to just sit on a small bench near the building, since standing there was just unnecessary. Then suddenly Felix’s phone rang.
~
Phone call
Felix: Hello?
Y/n: Yeah, hey…uhm I’m at the place you said I should be, but I think there’s a mista-
Felix: No, you’re at the right place haha. Wait where are you, we’ll meet you.
Y/n: Who’s we?
~
When Felix was about to answer your question you tripped on a loose stone on the ground, which made you drop your phone onto the road. You tried to grab it, but since you didn’t care to look a car was rushing fast towards you. You realised and was frozen in place.
Suddenly you got pulled onto the sidewalk very fast by someone. “Thank you so much I didn’t know what happened…”, as you spoke you turned around and looked at the person who just saved you. Instantly your gratefulness turned upside down a bit, since you saw who it was. “Oh, it’s you…”, you spoke. It didn’t surprise you that he was there, since well, he literally works at JYPE. Even though you were still thankful for him helping you, you kinda didn’t like this person.
Chris smiled. “Well, I see were even now, right?”, he said as Felix ran towards you still stunned at the scene that happened in front of him just now. You just kept staring at Chris. “Bro, what happened you just ran off, I didn’t even notice you were in danger…”, Felix said while looking at you and Chris. “Well, phew, thank god Chris saw!”, Felix said trying to catch his breath. “Yeah, thank you.”, you said looking down. Then you noticed your phone was broken, and remembered you were calling with Felix. ”Shit, my phone broke, I was calling a friend, I have to be at a place soon, and I don’t even know if I’m in the right place and now my phone is broken and I can’t call him and- “, then suddenly you realised it. You obviously knew who Chris was, and also knew about his team member which name was ironically, Felix. You stared at them for a second. “You’re not gonna tell me you’re- “, you said as the full realisation kicked in and felt really stupid now.
Felix started laughing and also now figured it out, by the way Chris looked at you. “Yep, it’s me, didn’t think your gamer friend would be a kpop idol now did you?”, Felix said. You actually were kind of hyped about it since you always did admire their work. Yet since your interaction with Chris yesterday, you kind of didn’t know how to act now. “No, I actually did in fact not thought that was gonna happen. I uhh….”, you said looking at Chris. “I don’t know about this, maybe I should just go.”, you spoke, ready to walk away.
Chris then went in front of you to try to keep you from going. “Listen, I know you probably hate me since I got you fired, and sorry for being so rude to you yesterday, it’s just…”, Chris stayed quiet for second. “It’s just you need a job. I feel bad for what happened and really need your help with this assignment, so could we please just forget about what happened and let’s help each other out?”, Chris said while looking into your eyes.
Something about him being nice to you, finally noticing you and treating you like an equal was nice. You looked at them both. Since you already knew Felix a bit, and was really in desperate need for a job, you decided to just drop the attitude and be thankful for them giving you an opportunity. “Okay fine, I’ll help you. But only if I do in fact get paid.”, you said, ready to walk with them. “Of course, our company gave us this assignment, so it’ll be fine!”, Felix said.
You started walking with them towards the big building. You’ve never worked at a place that fancy. Also, you were pretty excited to maybe see other Idols here and there, but you made sure not to show your excitement. As you started walking, you were next to Felix and Chris was on the other side of him. You didn’t want to walk next to him, not because you still hated him, but because you just simply didn’t know what you’d say to him. You knew you’d eventually have to start talking to him since your job is literally to help him gain gaming skills.
You actually kinda liked the way he was acting. All sweet and shy and quiet. Felix said that he didn’t normally behave like this, whispering it to you. You laughed silently. Then a few seconds later he whispered to Chris: “Bro she’s stunning, isn’t she?”. Chris just smiled towards the ground, not being able to respond.
As you three kept walking you and Chris didn’t look at each other once. Chris felt good about the fact that you said yes to the job though. He maybe wasn’t talking to you right now, but he was secretly looking at you here and then. You looked skinny, he thought. ‘’Has she eaten anything lately?”, he thought to himself. He got kind of concerned but since you two only just met he didn’t want to be all up in your problems just yet.
[6:50 AM]
“Sooo, here we have the entrance.”, Felix said as he waved hi to the receptionist behind the counter and security. “Noona, she’s allowed in the building from now on, she is helping us with an assignment, could you get her a pass?”, Felix asked the lady. She printed one out very fast, put it on a key chain and gave it to you. You took it from her and smiled and made a slight bow to be polite. “You don’t have to do that you know; people know you’re a foreigner, it’s okay.”, Chris said as he laughed softly. You looked at him, gave him a pokerface and continued to follow Felix. You didn’t want to be rude to Chris but also didn’t want to suddenly be all nice, just because you could. So, with not saying a word back to him you all went into the elevator.
You arrived at the 7th floor. There were all kinds of rooms, almost like offices. You wondered why you were here, and Felix then ran towards JYP who he luckily saw walking by, which he had hoped to find here at this hour. You and Chris were left at the elevator doors for a second, while Felix started to have a convo with their boss.
It was silent. You could feel the awkwardness in the air. Eventually you decided it was time to break the ice. “You weren’t the reason I got fired by the way…”, you said softly, whilst remaining to look at Felix. “Huh?”, Chris responded who now looked at you confused. “Well, I know I said you were the reason I got fired, and maybe in the moment it was true, but I have not done a great job at that stupid café for a long time, I did everything wrong all the time. So, I guess my boss just had enough, and that’s why she fired me. You just happened to be at the wrong place, wrong time, I guess. So, I’m sorry I accused you of being the cause. You were not.”, you said finally looking at him for real for the first time.
You now noticed it again. His beautiful plump lips, his gorgeous brown eyes, big nose, almost like a koala. And then his perfect skin, with teeny tiny freckles on his cheeks. Gosh, he looked amazing. “Well even if so, I was rude to you, I’m sorry I treated you like that. Yesterday was a bit hectic and I shouldn’t have taken it out on you. But maybe I was at the right place, right time after all. Now you don’t have to work at that ‘stupid’ café anymore, and get to work with me.”, Chris said. He also surprised himself with his last statement.
“What’s so great about working with you huh?”, you said, still not wanting to like him. But you had to be honest he was growing on you. He looked down for a second. Then he didn’t know how to respond so just stayed quiet. You both just stood there, glad the main problem against each other was out of the way, but now you both had this awkwardness towards each other even more. Luckily at that moment Felix came walking back towards you guys.
“So, what did he say?”, Chris asked the very excited looking boy. “He said it’s great, and you should get started right away. But most importantly he said to have fun, since he does want this all to feel a little bit like a break you know. Oh, and Y/n, he said you should fill in this form, so he could let the administration know where and how to pay you.”, Felix spoke very fast. He pushed the form in your hands, then said: “Okay but I have to go now, my archery coach is going to be at the gym in a few minutes, and he’ll be waiting for me, and the rest of the guys are also gonna start with their coaches and stuff, soooo, have fun?!”, Felix said. He gave you two a hug at the same time unexpectedly, so you both just stood there. But both laughed since he did seem very hyped about it all. It’s just when he left, the whole hallway went quiet. And both of you were all alone.
You filled in the form very quickly with a pen you saw on a table and gave the paper to Chris, who would be sure to give it to the right person. Then it stayed quiet for a minute. Since you had no idea where to go or do now, you just waited until Chris started talking.
“Uhm well okay, how should we approach this, let’s just find a computer I guess?”, Chris suggested. You looked at him funny. “And that random computer will just magically have games on it? No, I think we should find a good pc somewhere where we can really play. Do you know any?”, you said. “Well, don’t you have a pc?”, Chris asked. “Yeah, but we’re not gonna go to my place, sorry.”, you said, only because you would literally die inside if Chris saw the state your place was in right now, let alone your old broken-down pc. “Why not, it’s a great idea, you know your own pc best I think, right?”, He asked. “No.”, you said firmly.
Chris looked at you a bit worried, he didn’t understand, but maybe he was just a bit too close for comfort right now, so he didn’t ask again. At that moment Minho walked out of the elevator. “Hey Hyung, who’s this?”, He asked while giving you a slight bow. You bowed back and tried to smile. “Hey Minho, yeah, uhm, this is Y/n, she’s gonna help me skill up on gaming…we’re just a bit lost right now. We did not think about the fact that we need a good pc here to be able to actually play, so stupid of me.”, Chris spoke, while putting his hands through his hair.
You visually saw his discomfort and felt kind of bad. Maybe you were being too hard on him. He apologised about before and you felt like you had been annoying enough. “No, it’s not your fault, uhm, how bout I call Felix? Maybe we can use his pc, right? Does he live close by? I’d assume that.”, you asked. Chris liked that you tried to come up with a solution and help him in the tough situation.
Minho was looking at Chris up and down for a second. “Yeah, go ask him. You guys seem so tense by the way. Maybe you two should just go for a run first or something, you know, to loosen up a bit. I’ve never seen you so stiff Hyung. Well, bye!”, Minho spoke as he smiled and walked away, since he had to be at his appointment soon as well.
Winking at Chris as he walked through the door. Chris knew that Minho knew, he only acted like that with girls he liked. He never knew how to be his bubbly social extravert self, whenever there was a girl, he really was interested in, which wasn’t really beneficial for him and rarely happened.
“I think it’s a great idea, let’s call Felix, hopefully he isn’t training yet.”, Chris said as u started to dial the number on your half broken phone. Your phone was super pretty, rose gold layered with crystals on the case. It looked expensive. “Wow, fancy.”, Chris said, pointing at your phone. “Thanks, I got it from my boyfriend.”, You said. Chris his eyes widened. “Uh I mean ex-boyfriend sorry.”, you said while looking away. “I’m sorry to hear that…how long have you two been broken up?”, he asked trying to be polite. “A few months… but let’s not talk abou- “, you got cut off by Felix who had answered his phone.
You asked him if they could use his pc. He was a bit hesitant at first since his pc is like his child that he put together from scratch by himself, or so he explained. But eventually he told you that it would be okay. Since he knew Chris would be there the whole time anyways and you were very familiar with PCs' yourself of course. So, he gave you the greenlight, and had to hurry back to his archery. He then hung up.
“We’re good to go!”, you said as you and Chris started walking. You just followed him since he was the only one who knew the way. “So where does he live? I mean you realise you’re telling me a kpop idols home address right now huh?”, you said mockingly. “Hahaha well, we still live in dorms you see. Felix lives together with Seungmin, Jeongin and Minho. But we all have each other keys, so let’s head over there.”, he said.
“And you…?”, you asked after a few seconds. “I live a few apartments further, with Jisung, Hyunjin and Changbin.”, he replied. You knew Stray Kids as a group of course, since they’re pretty well known. Yet even though you’ve been in Korea for a while now, you didn’t really stan any groups in particular. You mostly just liked random songs that you heard on the radio.
“So how come you live here, if you don’t mind me asking? I mean you don’t even speak any Korean haha.”, Chris asked. You stayed quiet for a second. It was really hard for you to talk about all of this, since you hated the whole situation so much. But you also kind of like the fact that he sounded truly interested. So, you decided to tell him.
“Or I mean, if you don’t wanna say, that’s okay too you know, I do not want you to feel like you have to or anything…”, he said trying to reassure you it was all completely up to you. “Or does it have anything to do with that ex-boyfriend?”, he asked.
You finally spoke. “No, I mean, yeah, the thing is this story is a lot, I don’t know if you’re up for a story like that right now, while you are supposed to be having fun.”, you said while looking at him and forming a small smile. “Hey, to be honest talking to you is quite fun, no?”, he said while smiling too. You felt a weird energy in the air but couldn’t really put your finger on it. You were trying to be professional, especially because he is an idol, and you are kind of his teacher right now. That sounds weird but it’s true.
You two now walked outside of the building and he showed you where his car was parked. You both got in and buckled your seat belts. You hesitated again but then spoke. “You see, I actually was in a great place in life a few months back. I got into college, my family loved me, I had amazing friends, and I even had a job on the side at the animal rescue centre. I mean a few weeks before I left, I did get fired, because they didn’t need me anymore. Basically, they just had to scrap me from the team, cuz they had ‘too many people’. Fucking bullshit, but fine.”.
Chris laughed. You were starting to feel loosened up a bit already. You secretly did like to get all of this off your chest, since you haven’t really had anyone to talk to these last few months, beside people at the café. “So that’s kind of when it all started. I met this guy.”, you said going all out on the story now, since you two were alone in the car anyways.
Chris started driving. “Yeah, that’s how it always goes huh, there’s always a guy…haha”, he said trying to lighten the mood. “Yes, uhg I hate men. No offence…”, you said. “None taken.” He replied.
“So turned out he was really cute and seemed to have his life together and I was just very mesmerised by who he was, you know?
He worked as an ambassador at this big company and had his own place, it all seemed too good to be true, but I still went out with him since I was like, yolo.
So, we went out for like 8 months or so, I started to actually fall in love, I mean I think, at this point I don’t even know what love is. But I mean I didn’t care about anything he owned or did, as long as I was with him, I was happy.
Then suddenly he got transferred to South Korea. I was devastated and cried for like a week straight. Until one day he came by my dorm room, and he straight up asked me if I should just come with him.
He was gonna get great promotions and it all looked very bright for him. But me, who likes to be independent, was kind of hesitant about it. I had college, a job, friends, family, everything. Stability. But somehow, he convinced me, and assured me I’d find school or a cool career here too.
I did, I left everything. My school, my friends, who now hate me for suddenly dropping them all, my family was furious, since they encouraged me with everything I’ve been trying to achieve my entire life, and suddenly I choose to take this wacky path.
So, I get why everyone was so upset with me. They haven’t spoken to me since, none of them. But I was with the man I loved. So, to me it seemed like a sacrifice I had to make.
We got this super cute place in the middle of Seoul. Since he had to work straight away, I got to decorate the whole house. It was amazing, I did everything by myself. Then I just started realising how lonely the days began to feel.
He was at work the entire day and I’d only see him late at night when he came home, and he’d leave first thing the next morning. You see I’m not really the type of person who just sits around waiting for her boyfriend all day, but at that time I hadn’t found a job yet.
I was just home and stayed home, cleaned, watched some tv shows, painted here and there, I even tried writing a book, which was a disaster by the way so don’t ask.
But long story short. When I told him about my feelings and how scared I was about finding a job in a city where I do not even speak the language, he just gave me the silent treatment a lot and told me it was my decision to come here with him. While I was very hesitant in the first place.
I mean if I’d knew it would’ve been like that I would’ve just stayed home. So eventually I found out his work was more important than my happiness apparently and wouldn’t even help me get back up. Like help me find school, or what not. We just kept having fights. I just felt horrible and was scared a lot.”.
“Did he hurt you?”, Chris asked. “Not physically no, but emotionally I was so drained. So, after a lot of rough fights, I decided that was it, and I just had to leave. This wasn’t love and I didn’t want to waste my time on this guy anymore.
But I couldn’t just get my things and go back to my old home. I dropped out of school, my parents didn’t talk to me and I sure as hell didn’t have enough money to get a place of my own, I was literally so broke.
Luckily, I had saved up some money from my job back home and found a very small cheap apartment nearby. I literally just got up and walked every street to find a place that would hire me for literally anything, that how I ended up at the café. It paid the bills. But sure, as hell not enough to get like new stuff for myself.
The only things I have are things I got from him, or stuff I had brought from my old room back home. And well then, I got fired, so I had no idea how I’d make it through the month.”, you practically preached. “That’s quite the story…you’re incredibly strong Y/n. Good of you to let that douche bag go. He doesn’t deserve someone like you anyways.”, Chris said. You were still so into your story, that you didn’t even really realise what Chris said just now.
“So, I was kind of relieved Felix asked me to help you. I mean gaming for a job how fun!”, you said trying to be excited, since you wanted to be. Yet you just felt a bit dizzy. Maybe you have been talking for too long.
“Haha yeah, I mean it’s just for a while, I have no idea when I have to get back to my actual job, but even when that day comes, I’ll help you find something else, mark my words!”, Chris said. “I’ll figure something out.” You said while smiling.
By now you finally noticed Chris had parked the car. “Wait, were here already?”, you asked. “We have been parked here for a while now haha, guess you had a lot to say huh. I’m glad though, I like hearing about it. You’re gonna be alright. You have us now, right? We’re here to talk whenever you need.” Chris said reassuringly. “Why are we doing this again exactly?”, you asked him as both of you got out of the car.
He explained how this all came to be, and you started laughing. “You work so much, your boss actually made u quit for a while. Damn…ambitious I see.” He laughed as well.

You put your head down on the wooden desktop, letting out a deep sigh. Exam season was coming up, and to put it in the least dramatic sense possible, you were stressed. Was there a little voice inside of your head screaming about how you needed to start studying yesterday and about how your biology exam was going to kick your ass? Yes, but it’s not like you’ve never survived exam season before. Surely, this one would be no different than any other exam season and you were perfectly fine.
A poke on your left shoulder knocked you out of your racing thoughts, and you turned your head to look at your friend and prized study partner. She had a look of worry painting her face, and you thought for a second about how bad she would be at poker, “Are you okay?”
You knew Yachi was like a cheetah, mainly in the sense that if she felt that you were anxious she would become twice as anxious for you. You smiled at her in an effort to calm her nerves, “Yeah, just a little tired from studying.”
The blonde girl laughed, “I feel the same way.” She took out her lunch box to start eating, “Speaking of studying, do you want to meet up after my club gets done and study together?”
You had honestly forgotten that Yachi got recruited by the volleyball team to be their manager. You would be busy at the same time she was, since you had plans to tutor someone in calculus right after school, so you nodded and said, “Yup, sounds like a plan.”
It was now after club activities, and you can’t lie, you’re beat. Your mom had pressured you into tutoring her friend’s son who also happens to go to Karasuno, and he had a much poorer understanding of integrals than your mom initially let on. You sighed, looking down at your phone as you tried to find a song to match your current mood, walking to the spot that Yachi told you to meet her at.
Between your music being too loud in your headphones, you looking down at your phone and the boy about to run into you looking back at his friend to say something to his snarky comment, neither of you saw the other until you were both on the ground, his slender but much taller frame looming on top of your own. The both of you stayed in that compromising position for a moment, staring at each other. You watched in real time as his freckled face went from tan, to pink, and to cherry red. His eyes became the size of dinner plates. He scrambled to his feet, apologized and bolted towards his original destination.
You sat there on the ground for a moment, until Yachi’s shouting broke you out of your lovestruck haze. She was on her knees in front of you, looking over every inch of your body to see if you were injured, even going as far as pulling your eyelids open to see if you were concussed. She probably didn’t even realize how humorous her anxious antics were. You burst out laughing, causing her even more concern for your health. Between laughs you managed to wheeze out, “I’m okay, I’m okay.”
Once you calmed your laughter, you stood up and brushed off your uniform skirt. You looked down at your phone, and saw that the song playing when he ran into you was “Lovesong” by The Cure.
🏐
You and Yachi had now been studying for half an hour and you just could not focus on the practice problems in front of you to save your life. You plopped your head down on the desk and groaned.
Yachi set down her pencil, “Do you need a break?”
You hummed out a pained, “mhmm” and picked up your head, “I feel like I’m going insane, Yachi.”
Your friend started scrolling through the notifications on her phone, “From studying so much?”
You chuckled dryly, “I wish.”
She looked at you confused, “What is it then?”
You put your face in your palms to hide your embarrassment, “I can’t stop thinking about that guy who ran into me while I was waiting for you.”
Yachi’s jaw went slack, “Yamaguchi?”
You slammed your hands down on the table, “You know him??” The blonde in front of you nodded, and you put your face back into your palms, “Yachi…”
You couldn’t see her face, but you could hear the intrigue in her voice, “Yea?”
Keeping your face in your palms, your voice came through muffled, “What’s he like?”
Yachi hummed in thought with her hand on her chin, “Well, he’s pretty smart I think, I mean, he is in Class 4. He’s really shy at first, but once he knows you’re safe he opens up quickly. Umm… what else?” the blonde scratched her head for a second, “Oh! He’s also super hard working! I consider him to be one of the hardest workers on the team besides Kageyama and Hinata, honestly.”
And that’s all that Yachi had to say. From the sounds of it, this boy was your picture perfect image of a boyfriend. Yachi might have done a little upselling since he was her friend as well, but you couldn’t imagine a better guy. He’s tall, he’s likely athletic if he’s on a volleyball team, he’s tan, has the cutest freckles ever, he’s shy, he’s smart, and he’s hardworking? Really, he’s the total package in your mind. You parted your fingers to peak at your friend through them, “Can you… Can you introduce the two of us?”
In a manner very unlike Yachi, she smiled slyly and said, “I think that can be arranged.”
🏐
You wrung your hands for probably the upteenth time in just a fifteen minute period. You looked towards Yachi, wanting to ask to ask if your hair, makeup, and outfit was good, but you already asked six times and you were worried you would annoy her if you did.
Yachi giggled and patted you on the shoulder, “You look great, don’t stress.”
Your head snapped back towards her, silently seething. It was easy for her to say “don’t stress” when she wasn’t the one properly meeting the possible love of her life for the first time! You were about to say all of this when you noticed that she was looking a little pale and woozy. Yea, if you and Yachi were animals, she would be a cheetah and you would be her therapy dog that isn’t very good at its job.
“Yachi!” You turned your head and saw The Object of Your Affections, or who you now know as Yamaguchi Tadashi, waving towards the two of you as he and a tall, brooding blonde walked next to him.
Yachi waved back, “Hi, Yamaguchi!” She gestured her hands to you as if you were a prize car on a game show and introduced you, “I hope it’s okay if she joins us in studying today.”
The freckled boy smiled, his cheeks tinged a light pink, “Of course, the more the merrier.”
The four of you chatted for a little while longer, mainly just making small talk, and eventually continued walking towards the library. You ended up walking next to Yamaguchi, which you were positive was due to Yachi’s scheming. You would have to remember to repay her for this gift. The urge to say something was burning in your mind, but your mouth just wouldn’t move, the nerves were absolutely getting to you. ‘Stupid Brain! It’s just a boy! Given it’s a really cute, tall, smart boy, but Just A Boy! Snap out of it!’ you yelled to yourself in your head.
You were brought out of your thoughts by the sound of your name from the aforementioned boy. He wasn’t looking at you, instead looking at something surely more interesting across the street, and fiddling with the hair at the nape of his neck. You could see the faintest hint of red on his cheeks as he said, “You’re the girl I ran into the other day, right?”
You nodded, flexing your fingers, “Yea… But honestly don’t worry about it at all, I’m perfectly okay!”
He let out a sigh of relief, “That’s good.”
An awkward silence hung between the two of you after that exchange, ‘This is going terribly!’ your mind screamed at you, ‘Quick! Say something! Be witty! Cute! Something! Anything!’
“So besides volley--”
“What do you do for--”
The two of you made eye contact after interrupting each other and laughed. ‘Nice save,’ said your brain. After that moment that would seem meaningless to anyone besides the two of you, the conversation flowed much better. You helped him with English, making sure to lean in just a little too close when showing him something in a text he was supposed to be translating. You caught him a few times staring at you, instead of what you were trying to show him. By the end of the study session you felt like you had made Yachi proud and, hopefully, won over the boy of your dreams.
This suspicion was confirmed when Yamaguchi said your name, causing you to stop packing up your bag, “Would it be possible for me to get your number?”
Your face absolutely erupted, steam was practically coming out of your ears, “Um, um, yeah, let me just grab my phone.” You reached for your phone, but it slipped through your hands due to the sheer amount of sweat slicking your palms, and clattered loudly against the table top. You quickly squeaked out, “I’m sorry,” and handed him your phone so he could put his number into your contacts and you could text him to give him yours.
As the two boys left you and Yachi, Yamaguchi yelled your name, “I’ll text you!”
As you stood there, pink in the face, you said to Yachi, “I’ll buy all of your vending machine drinks for the rest of high school.”
🏐
That night, you laid in bed, wishing you could melt into your mattress and never come out. You picked up your phone for the one millionth time, looking to see if a notification from Yamaguchi had come through yet. To the shock of absolutely no one, there was nothing. Maybe he didn’t actually like you as much as you thought he did, and all of that was just him being nice. After all, he was in front of mostly his friends and he probably had a reputation to uphold as the sweet shy guy. You buried your face in your pillow, hoping that it suffocated you.
Just as you felt your throat tightening up, on the verge of tears, you felt a buzz from beside you. You quickly sat up and looked at the phone screen,
Yamaguchi:
“Do you wanna go to a cafe tomorrow? Around 1?”
You read the notification, two, three, four times, even shutting off the screen and turning it back on to make sure the text was real and not just a mirage your brain created due to severe delusional puppy love. Once you confirmed that the text was, in fact, real, a squeal ripped from your throat and you jumped out of your bed, jumping in the middle of your room, staring at the text message
The door to your bedroom slammed open, your dad standing there looking at you with wide eyes, “Are you okay?”
You ran up to your dad, squeezing him tight, “I’m more than okay! I’m going on a date tomorrow!”
Your dad pushed you back, holding you by the shoulder, “YOU’RE WHAT!?” and proceeded to ask you no less than one billion questions. Maybe he shouldn’t have been the first person you told.
🏐
You gripped the railing of the stands until your knuckles turned white. This was an insanely tense game between Karasuno and Aoba Johsai. Yamaguchi had told you about the newly formed rivalry between the two schools, and you were sweating nervously for the team. You perked up when you saw Coach… Ukai, you think, call Yamaguchi over to the bench. You knew what this meant, after all, you went to all of his games.
When Yamaguchi stepped up to the line to sub in for Hinata, you cupped your hands around your mouth and screamed, “You got this, Tadashi!!” You saw Yamaguchi and his upperclassmen laugh at your hollering.
As Yamaguchi got to his place behind the serve line, he heard a much quieter shout of “That’s my boyfriend!” from the stands. He put the ball to his chin and took a deep breath, his chest swelling with pride. He really couldn’t miss this one after that.

Whispers of the Ocean
Merman! Huang Renjun x Human! Reader
Summary: The ocean is a dangerous place. Your grandmother said. You were obedient enough to follow her and at the same time, you were curious. You found yourself lured by the deep bodies of water, as if it’s been calling for you.

“The ocean is a dangerous place my dear,” your grandma said. Her soft arms wrapping around you who innocently stared at the blue waves crashing against the bay.
You looked up at her. She stood there firm as if her eyes weren’t red and swollen due to crying — you don't know why she was crying.
“That’s why you mustn't venture out there! It may look so majestic but I must warn you, danger is what awaits you there,”
It’s been decades since you last saw your grandma. As far as you know, she remained in her hometown. A small provincial island that could only be traveled by a boat — a reason why she couldn’t leave it. You barely recall why your grandma loathes the ocean, it was a long mystery to you that even your mother avoided as a topic.
You grew up in the city, away from the calm sea and the bodies of water. You weren’t allowed to swim at any beach of bodies of water unless it's a pool. You never got your answer about it, but perhaps it somehow connected to that faded memory of you and your grandma.
But things have changed, soon you learned that your grandma was ill. Forcing your mother to visit her mother again after years of living in the city. To ease her worries, you volunteered to accompany her.
“Just remember, don’t ever go near the ocean. I know that mama’s house is on the beach front, but please yn, I don’t want to worry about you too,” your mother pleaded.
“Of course ma, I won’t, I promise,” you said, smiling at her.
The trip was a 2 hour boat ride from a larger town. You were amazed by the clear and blue water of the ocean. You wondered how deep the ocean was, you were filled with curiosity, wanting to know more about the mystery of it. But you don’t want to worry your mother, that’s why you looked away and stared at the small island that is your destination. As soon as you reached the dock, you were welcomed by a woman who’s the same age as your mother.
“Oh look at you,” she said, hugging your mother the moment she stepped on the fine white sand. “I miss you! and — oh my! Is this your daughter?”
“This is yn, she’ll be staying here to help me with mama,” your mom smiles.
You got acquainted with Auntie Cora, she was your mother’s childhood best friend. She lives with her family on a small island and looks after your grandma. She shared that weeks earlier, your grandmother had a fever due to the change of the weather. It wasn’t that bad, it’s just, she needs to rest so that it won’t get worse.
You found yourself staring at your grandmother’s house. It was the same house where some of your childhood days happened, but as you stare at it, you find nothing, not even a hint of nostalgia at the place.
“I told Cora that I’m fine,” your grandmother said with an angry tone. Just like what aunt Cora said, her sickness wasn’t that bad.
“Ma, you’re already eighty-five, a fever may bring something worse,” your mother justified.
“I’m fine! I took some medicine earlier and drank herbal tea,” your grandma answered. “You shouldn’t have returned here! You’re safer in the city!”
“Ma stop with that,” you heard your mother’s tone becoming serious, you watched as your grandmother turned around and at that moment, they had a staring contest.
Your mother was first to let go, she pulled you away from the scene. You followed her quietly until you two reached a room.
“Ma, what was that all about?” you asked.
“Nothing, nothing,” your mother quickly gave you a smile. “The trip was kinda tiring right? Let’s just rest for a while.”
But you didn’t want to rest. You excuse yourself if you can go out and look around, your mother only gave you a nod after you told her that you won’t go near the ocean. With that, you skipped your way out of the house.
You glance at the ocean. It was calm. It was three in the afternoon and you watched as the sun gleamed against the blue ocean. You were amazed, it was the first time you saw an ocean. You could only see them through films or images, but witnessing it in real life felt surreal to you.
You watched as the wave crashed against the white sand, it was calm, like a whisper. You found yourself locked in the ocean. Wondering. What danger is out there? You wanted to know, to feel the water crash against your feet. You wanted to know how deep it is, and think of the mystery you can unfold by just sinking in the ocean.
But as you were about to take a step back, you were stopped by a hand. You turned around and saw Aunt Cora smiling at you.
“You should thank me that it was me who caught you,” she teased. You only nod, looking away embarrassed.
“Can I ask you a question?” you blurted out before she could leave. Aunt Cora turns around and gives you a smile.
“Do you think that the ocean is dangerous?”
“I think the ocean is beautiful,” she answered. “It uses its beauty to trap us into danger, that’s why you should never fall for it.”
Her words remained in your mind until dinner time. Your mother cooked food and while the three of you sat there in silence. You couldn’t help but to hear the waves crashing. Just like earlier, it was still calm, but you couldn’t help but to hear it like a lullaby. It’s so tranquil that you couldn’t even imagine why they would think of it like that.
Even in the deep of the night, you couldn’t sleep. All you can hear is nothing but the waves. It’s calling you. You know it, your heart is skipping with nervousness. Agitated at your bed while your mother is resting next to you. You glanced at her and saw that she was already in her deep sleep.
“Fuck it, just tonight,” you convinced yourself. You just wanted to see it for yourself. Just tonight you wanted to dip your feet into the water. That’s all and nothing else.
You slowly crept out of your bed, careful not to wake up your mother. Your light steps carried you like a feather as you exited the house and went to the bay barefoot.
Just like the waves, the wind was calm too. There’s nothing but eerie silence and the once clear, blue ocean became a deep void of water. There’s nothing but silence and as much as it intimidates you, your curiosity is much stronger.
Slowly, you took small steps against the water. You felt chills the moment the small stream touched your feet, feeling the cold water. You only smile as slowly, you take another step, and another, until the water is ankle deep. It felt amazing, you glanced at the ocean and thought that the ocean may not be so bad after all.
“You’re new here aren’t you,” you were startled when you heard a voice. You glanced at your right and your knees weakened at the sight.
“Y-you…”
“Oh? Seems like you are new here, are you surprised?” he asked, smiling.
“You guys exist!?” you shouted.
“I mean, you’re seeing me, so basically we exist.”
You didn’t say a word. Your eyes glued at the creature in front of you.
He was breathtaking. Against the light around the area, you can see how ethereal his face is. He’s staring at you, smiling as if you’re a friend to him. His black hair falls beautifully long. His eyes were silver blue, contrasting the golden scales that seemed through his arms and oh. His tail looks magnificent as it reflects against the light. Blue hues adorned in golden scales.
“You’re real,” was the first thing you said after it sank into you.
“We are.”
“And you can understand me.”
“I can.”
You choked a breath. “I can believe it.”
“I guess it’s your first time encountering a merman huh?” he laughs. “I’m Renjun by the way.”
“Yn,” you introduced shortly. “Is it okay if I can go near you?”
Renjun only reached for your hands. Slowly, you walked your way towards him, and as soon as you reached him, you held his hand. It was cold, but soft, they weren’t wrinkled at all. You lightly squeezed it as you positioned yourself to sit beside Renjun who’s smile never left.
“What brings you here?” he asked.
“My grandmother’s sick, I accompanied my mom —”
“ — no, I mean here outside by the ocean,” Renjun clarified. “No one goes to the ocean unless they’ll ride a boat out of this place.”
That’s when you feel your ears deafened. “What do you mean?”
Renjun only hums, “no one goes to the ocean around here, only fishermen.”
“So you knew about it. Why?”
But he merely shrugged, “I don’t know why. The ocean’s too beautiful to be avoided, people are just scared to discover it.”
“That’s what they told me,” you only let out a sigh. “That the ocean’s so beautiful that we can’t see its danger.”
You heard Renjun laugh. “The ocean’s not dangerous! Look at it! It’s so peaceful, I live in the ocean and trust me, the ocean is far dangerous from it.”
“Seriously?”
“Do you want to see it for yourself?”
An invitation. You can feel your heart beating fast. You glance at the body of water and you can feel yourself gulping.
“But it’s too dark,” you pointed out.
“Oh, don’t worry about it,” Renjun casually said. “I got you, I can tour you there! You can even meet my family.”
You only stare at him.
“Okay maybe we cannot meet my family but! Let me show you what lies beneath the ocean,” he reaches for his hand once again. “Do you trust me?”
You stared at him for a second. Renjun gives you an assuring smile as he reaches out his hand once again. You couldn’t help but to glance at it. Heart skipping a beat.
“Only for tonight,” you said to him.
“Then that’s a yes,” he smiles at you.
Carefully he trails you towards the ocean. The water slowly rises up. You breathe in as you can feel the water up to your chest, you hold onto Renjun tightly as you can feel it around your shoulders.
“Wait,” Renjun stops. “Before we take another step, there’s something I should do so that you can breathe underwater.”
“Okay,” you only said.
But what you didn’t expect next was that he cups your cheeks, and the next thing you know, Renjun’s lips are planted on yours. Your eyes went wide as you could feel his lips blew air in between. From there, he separates from you.
“Are you ready to dive?” he asked.
Still in daze, you could only nod. He tugs you and as you dipped into the water, you open your eyes as Renjun pulls you closer.
You gasped as you could feel yourself breathing normally under the water. You could only glance at Renjun who’s smiling widely. He pulls you to a deeper part of the ocean, and you could only look around. Amazed at how you can see the surface and the blurry image of the moon above.
Renjun stops and points at something, your eyes grow bigger at the sight.
The view was surreal. It was far from the things you saw on the internet or in films. The ocean was majestic. Its color was bright despite the dark night and you can see the sea creatures swimming around. It was alive, as if you’re in another world.
Renjun brought you to places that made you mesmerized about the ocean. Coral reefs displayed were like flowers in a garden. He even grabbed a starfish for you to touch. You only let out a small giggle as Renjun toured you more, and further, until you lost track of time.
As you rose from the surface, you could see that the island is far from where you are. You only glance at Renjun who looks at you with awe.
“Thank you Renjun,” you said. “You were right, there’s nothing to be scared of in the ocean.”
“I’m glad you had fun,” he smiles. “But the sun might rise in a few hours. We should bring you home.”
“Of course,” you only nod.
But none of you moved, both of you are smiling ear to ear as you remain from where you two are.
You don’t know why but you felt brave that night, so you approached Renjun once again, slowly you leaned against him for another kiss. He reciprocates it softly. Wrapping his arms around your waist as he pulls you closer, even carrying you as you lean more to his body.
-
Morning arrived without any suspicion from your mother.
“At the rocks? Are you sure, dear?” your mother asked, creasing her forehead.
“Yes I’m sure ma and no swimming, I know,” you said to her.
“No!” your grandmother refuses. “Even by the rocks you’re not allowed!”
“Ma,” your mother hushes and then glances at you. “You’re good to go, you should return here dry okay?”
You only gave your mom a smile before stepping out of the house. That’s when she glances at her mother who has her forearms crossed.
“You’re going to regret letting her venture out of the sea,” your grandmother said.
“Mom please,” your mother begged. “She’s not her, okay?”
Meanwhile you found your way to the huge rocks scattered on the left side of the island. It’s a secluded part of the island, and you are convinced why; the trail path is just full of sharp rocks. Carefully, you walked your way there and as you noticed a familiar figure waiting, you were able to ignore the pain on your feet.
“Yn!”
“I’m here!” you shouted, as soon as you left the path and felt your feet against the fine white sand, you ran your way to Renjun who’s waiting for you there.
You spent your days with Renjun. Like a secret summer affair that no one knows. It was a thrill. Every day you’ll go to the rocks where he’ll be waiting. It’s either you two stay there and just talk but sometimes it involves you getting dragged back to the ocean. You fell in love with the ocean. It's peaceful and quiet. Far from the city or the island where you truly belong. It wasn’t hard to fall for it especially when Renjun’s there to show you more about the ocean. You met some of his friends, fellow mer-people who accepted you immediately.
Soon, your mother’s warnings about the ocean became nothing to you. You probably thought that it’s just them being overprotective of you. You were still careful when you venture out, never attempt to stray further from the island.
“Before you go, there’s something I want to give you,” Renjun said. The sun was slowly setting and you two just finished another adventure. You were just waiting for your clothes to dry.
“What is it?” you asked.
You watch as Renjun removes one of his bracelets. He hands it over to you and you only stare at it. It was an intricate bracelet with pearls and shells. You traced it gently and found it beautiful.
“It’s beautiful,” you said. “Thank you.”
“It’s to show them that you’re mine,” Renjun stated, making you laugh.
“Then I’ll wear it for you.”
It fits your wrist perfectly. You were so happy that you gave Renjun another kiss. He happily obliges and once you two separated, he cups your cheeks and strokes it gently with his thumb.
“I’ll be always waiting here for you okay?” he said.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then,” you promised.
As soon as you reached your grandmother’s house, your smile faded. You saw your grandmother and mother waiting for you there with their disappointed expressions. Beside them was Aunt Cora.
“Ma, is there something wrong?” you asked.
Your mother let out a sigh, “I can’t believe you disobeyed me.”
That’s when you started to feel nervous. “Ma —”
“I told you to never go to the ocean!”
“But I’m safe! Look at me, I’m alive! The ocean is not dangerous ma!” you shouted in defense.
“That’s not the case yn, I told you one thing and you didn’t follow my order,” she pointed out.
“Why? Is it that bad? The ocean is beautiful! I can’t believe you didn’t let me near it for years —”
“Beautiful!? If it’s beautiful then why did it take my daughter away!?” your grandmother interrupted.
Your eyes grew large at the revelation. You stared at your mother who looked at your grandma with an angry expression.
“Ma! Stop it!” she said.
“She has to know! She has the right to know,” your grandma defended. “Those merpeople are murderers! They murdered her!”
“You knew about them?” you could only ask.
“They rule the ocean yn,” Aunt Cora explained. “They didn’t like how we people are invading their ecosystem and stealing fish from them. They also are deeply obsessed with people, women to be exact.”
That’s when Renjun came into your mind. No, it’s impossible. He can’t be a murderer. They’re wrong. Renjun’s kind and sweet. He showed you the ocean and there’s nothing for you to be afraid about. You met the merpeople, they were kind and friendly. Maybe they’ve misunderstood the merpeople. If that was the case, then there shouldn’t be anyone living on this island.
“No, that’s not true,” you said softly. “They’re kind! They’re friendly and —”
“They took away your aunt,” your grandma pointed out.
Your aunt? What aunt? You never heard of her before. You only glanced at your mother who couldn’t even lift her head. Is this what they’ve been hiding from you?
“You were young when it happened,” your grandma explained. “But she was a victim of them too, they took her away from us —”
“Ma that’s not true!” your mother shouted. “She died because she drowned, merpeople don’t exist and stop with all of these delusions!”
Then she turned to you. “Tomorrow, we’re leaving this island, I want you to pack your things tonight. No more going to the ocean, okay? You understand?”
You saw how your mother is full of worry. You felt a hint of guilt as you stared at your mother’s eyes. You could only nod. “Yes ma.”
You watched as your mother walked away from the scene. Your grandmother only shakes her head as she exits towards the kitchen. You only stood there dumbfounded until Aunt Cora tapped your shoulder, lightly patting it to comfort you.
It was Aunt Cora who told you about your aunt, your mother’s younger sister. She loves the ocean, goes to it daily and would return safely.
The merpeople were nothing but a myth but because of her, the people in the island started to believe in them — but in a dark light.
One day, they found her body on the shore. Lifeless, pale, and wrinkled. As if her soul got sucked out and was left nothing but a hollow body. Your grandmother wailed at the loss of her daughter, cursing the ocean and the merpeople because of the accident. She believes that they took her away, but your mother was a skeptic, she thinks that her sister died because she drowned.
But that also became the reason why she became overprotective of you, she doesn’t want you to die in the same way your aunt did. That’s why she left the island.
“What about you Aunt,” you asked. “Do you think they exist?”
Aunt Cora became quiet for a while, “I saw you talked to a merman one time. And just like you, I did fall for a merman back in my youth.”
Your jaw dropped because of her story. She only laughed it off as she glanced at the window. The ocean tonight is still peaceful. “But I stopped, knowing that we’re too different worlds and he started showing hints that he wants to take me,” she explained. “I told you, they’re so beautiful that you wouldn’t see that they’re dangerous.”
You found yourself sleepless again that night.
A part of you wanted to believe what they said, but a part of you, a larger one, is still holding onto the moments you had with Renjun.
You traced the bracelet Renjun gave you. Is this truly a genuine affection of his? Or was he just luring you to your death? You can feel your heart beating abnormally. Tomorrow, you’ll leave this place and the memories you had here will be blurry just like it was back in your childhood.
But you wanted to tell Renjun goodbye. He’ll be waiting for you tomorrow by the rocks. It’ll hurt you to imagine him waiting there for you all day long. No. You couldn’t imagine it at all. It’ll hurt you too. You don’t want to leave this island with guilt and a heavy heart.
That’s why you found yourself outside. By the bay. It was much windier than the first time you went to the ocean. The waves were a bit loud, crashing against the sand. But you didn’t mind it. You only stared at it, hoping that Renjun would appear any moment.
And it was as if your wishes were answered, your eyes caught the attention of the figure that’s slowly swimming towards you.
“Renjun!” you shouted, walking further into the ocean.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, tone full of worry.
“I just…” you couldn’t help but feel tears falling. You felt yourself holding back. Renjun looks at you with worry. You can’t believe it. How can your grandmother paint them as murderers?
“I’m sorry Renjun,” you only said to him. “But, I am leaving tomorrow.”
“What?” he asked, disbelieved.
“I told you right that I’m not from here, I have to return to the city,” you explained. “But when time comes, I’ll come back here I promise you that. I want to return here.”
“Yn,” Renjun only said.
“I like you Renjun, you’re one of the best things that happened to me, and I am so happy that I met you,” you confessed, tears streaming down nonstop. You hate this, you hate how you have to be separated not only from Renjun but also from the ocean. You know that there’s so much for you to explore out there, but it has to be cut short by your mother.
“Yn,” Renjun wipes off the tears from your eyes. “It’s okay, I’m okay with it, I just — can we go out for a swim? One last time? Just like the first time we met.”
You could only nod. Thinking that this would probably be the last time you’ll go into the ocean, you could only agree to his wishes.
Just like the first time you ventured out into the ocean. You did nothing but to try to paint the view into your memory, you wanted to make sure to memorize everything. Your hands never left Renjun’s even holding it tighter than before. You wanted to be with him but just like what Aunt Cora said, you two are from two different worlds.
As soon as you two rose from the surface, you could only stare at Renjun who’s gleaming under the moonlight. Oh. He’s as ethereal just like when you first met him. He looks at you lovingly, hands brushing the stray hair off from your hair.
“I guess…this is goodbye,” you mumbled.
But Renjun didn’t say a word, he approached you until you’re an inch closer to each other.
He pulled you for a kiss, it was full of passion that you could only kiss him back. You felt his hands around your waist, pulling you further. It was intense but you wanted to savor every second of it.
You can feel yourself breathless, but you don’t want to break away from him. You wanted to feel Renjun’s lips as if tomorrow doesn’t exist. You found yourself drowning into Renjun. It drove you crazy that you felt yourself numbed from everything — not noticing the way your body hit back into the ocean.
-
Morning came in but it was far from the mornings of the people on the island.
It was dark, raindrops falling like fainted drizzle. The sun was hiding behind the gray clouds.
But that wasn’t the reason why that morning was different, it was because they were disturbed a loud wail of a woman.
“Yn, yn! Please! Not you, dear!” your mother screamed, tears running as she clung onto your pale, lifeless, and wrinkled body.
Aunt Cora ran in hurry to comfort her best friend, passing by your grandmother who stood there frozen, seeing himself in your mother’s position. She watched as Aunt Cora went to hug your mother who could only cry on your body. It’s so familiar that your grandma couldn’t do anything about it.
She only stared at the ocean. How it's painted grayish blue today and the currents are faster than usual. It’s large waves crashing angrily against the shore. She could only shake her head as she stepped away from the scene with pain on her heart.

Hey there, just finished reading Rosetta Headstone.
That. What one of the most beautifully tragic fica I have ever read, and I need More Of It.
Thank you so much. I love Rosetta Headstone a lot. It's very messy and weirdly paced, but I got very attached to the characters and world I ended up creating. It occupied sooo many of my thoughts for a while, and the ending still hits for me.
The story itself is very much an exploration of 'the bad end', of a video game route destined for failure. I wanted to sit in that space for a while.
If you need more, here's a little bit more! This is not canon. But also it doesn't have to NOT be canon?
Long after it happened, while he was lying in bed fending off an army of fretting doctors with a broom, Khaid learned that his heart had stopped.
It had been a bit of a nasty surprise for his maid. She had pulled back his curtains with a tray of his morning coffee to see her master taking a bit of a lie-in. Apparently she had tried to rouse him three different times before she finally reached out and took his shoulder - upon which she saw that he was dead. Her scream had brought three guards running.
Finding a prince dead wasn’t that uncommon of an occurrence, thanks in some small part to Khalid’s intrepid efforts. Far less common was finding a prince dead in the Queen’s palace, the very morning the king was taking morning tea with his own wife. Apparently Khalid’s mother and father had come rushing to his room the minute they heard the commotion. It was a little embarrassing.
A guard had put a finger to his neck and proclaimed him dead. Mother had burst into tears. Super embarrassing. Father had always said that if Khalid died it would be his own fault, and dying right in front of his father just felt like gross negligence. He’d never live it down.
Then Khalid’s eyes opened. He was very tired, as if he had taken a very long journey and had only just come to rest. His chest ached, feeling heavy and strange. He had turned his eyes and saw his mother, saw his father gripping his mother’s shoulders, and thought - how did Byleth dump me back home?
Home was annoying. But in that moment, as tears shone in his mother’s eyes, it didn’t feel so bad after all.
“Mama,” Khalid breathed. “I feel…like crap…”
Then he fell back asleep, heedless to the fact that he had confused half the room by speaking in Adrestian, and didn’t wake up for another two weeks.
Again, embarrassing. Dying was a skill issue and Khalid was above that shit. Khalid’s own men had tried to find the culprit who poisoned his food or the wound on his body where a needle was jabbed, but they found nothing. In accordance with great tradition Dad always left his children to fight amongst themselves, but the allegations of favoritism must have something to them. Apparently Dad had sat by Khalid’s bedside a lot. Mother was there all of the time. But that was motherly love for you.
When Khalid finally woke up again, he felt a little like a wooden stake used to put up a tent. His chest still felt like a barrel of rocks, and he had to fumble his hand towards the bell pull to call for another maid. He was about to apologize for oversleeping when the maid screamed again and Khalid realized that something may have happened.
The doctors who practically teleported into his room called it a miracle. He had been found completely unresponsive with a stopped heart, and they would have called him dead if it wasn’t for his shallow breaths. There were a lot of doctors. Had they just been hanging around? Had Dad called all of these doctors?!
Mom and Dad barged in quickly, betraying the fact that they may have, actually, called the doctors. They had the strangest look on their faces when they saw him awake and sitting up, and the army of doctors around him was probably the only thing that saved him from a matronly assault. She pushed past the doctors instead, leaving Dad to trail after her as always.
Khalid meant to say something cool. Something disaffected, something casual, something that wouldn’t worry her at all. People went two years without seeing their mother all of the time and there was something cold and heavy in Khalid’s chest and -
“Mama!” Kahlid cried, reaching out, and Mom swept him into her arms. “Papa, Mama, I - Mom!”
Then they were all hugging. Some of them were crying, but none of them would admit who. That was his family for you: if you back each other up, then they couldn’t hold you responsible.
Then the doctors attacked him with a ton of poking and prodding and probing. One shone a light in his eyes, another took his blood pressure. They didn’t let him see the results of that, but when Dad looked over he snapped the clipboard out of the doctor’s hands.
“Do you see the same numbers I am seeing? All of you, out! Get the shaman back in here.” Dad waved the clipboard around angrily, and Khalid craned his head to catch a glimpse of the numbers. “You are meant to be our kingdom’s finest scholars, and you cannot see when the problem has left your realm?”
“Whoah,” Khalid said, finally puzzling out the numbers on his chart. He had to actively force his brain to switch back into Almyran, which was a bit of a trip. “That blood pressure…doesn’t look right.”
Dad turned around, pulling a tragic little Dad face. “Khalid, you ought to rest. You shouldn’t even be awake right now.”
“You shouldn’t even be alive, honestly,” Mom said.
“Tiana!”
“What? The boy has no heartbeat, he -”
“I don’t have a what?”
Dad leaned back and flicked Mom on the head. She hissed, batting him away, and the army of doctors shuffled around them. But when Dad looked back at Khalid he was solemn, and Khalid unconsciously raised a finger to his own pulse. “We don’t know why you’re alive, Khalid. Your heart stopped. We couldn’t get it beating again. There was nothing we could…”
Khalid’s thumb pressed on still flesh.
Byleth. Had your chest felt this heavy? Or were you too used to it to notice? Did you feel this weak, so dizzy and distant, and yet so powerful?
“How did I get here?” Khalid asked weakly. “I was in a mausoleum. How did I return home?”
A door thumped, and the aged court shaman shuffled into his chambers. On his heels was Dad’s Junior Vizier, who looked basically about to cry from the pile of scrolls in his arms. Grand Vizier still forcing all of his work on him, then. Rough.
Pompously - Khalid hated the guy, everything he did was pompous - the shaman announced, “You have not traveled anywhere, Your Highness. Unless you traveled through the spirit realm?”
Uh. Khalid squinted at the shaman. “I traveled…out of Almyra…”
The shaman nodded. “The spirits took you.”
“A boat…took me…”
Dad turned to one of the doctors. “Get a psychiatrist,” he said seriously. “There’s brain damage.”
“I don’t have brain damage!” Khalid cried, exasperated. “I know where I was! I was in Garreg Mach, I was in a giant mausoleum, my teacher made me - she made me -!”
Then everybody was shuffling around him - everybody talking in hushed voices, everybody shooting each other significant glances, and Khalid’s limp hands were shaking. Mom took one of his hands and said something to him, real concern creasing her face, and Dad was talking quietly with one of the doctors.
“I’m not crazy!” Khalid cried, and Mom just gripped his hand tighter. “I’m seriously not lying!”
Mom hugged him, and Khalid limply hugged her back. “I know, honey. We’re going to help return you to health, alright?”
“Byleth,” Khalid muttered. “Byleth, please…”
“What was that? Ali, he’s saying something.”
“I just want Byleth,” Khalid confessed, awful and bloody. “Mom, Byleth made us kill her -”
“Don’t admit to things like that, son.”
“Ali! Now is not the -”
“Spirits,” the shaman said, “he’s haunted by spirits.”
“I seriously feel haunted by you, Abdullah -”
As always, Khalid’s heart cried for Byleth. The Ashen Demon who could defeat any foe; the teacher who would always fix it all. The woman always slipping away. He wanted her there.
All sound stopped. A heart beat.
It’s you again. Where are we?
Khalid opened his eyes. The world was washed out, lightly hued in grey and purple, and it felt just a few inches more distant from him than usual. He was still locked inside Mom’s embrace, but she was frozen like stone. Khalid couldn’t move either. When he looked around as best as he could, he saw that everybody was frozen - Dad, the shaman, the vizier, the doctors. The grey hues had sucked the color and life out of the world, pulsing heartbeat in his ears beat spun glass drum.
A strong mental image of a pale green haired girl flashed behind his eyelids. It was the same girl from that vision he had, just now and so long ago. She didn’t seem distraught, but she did seem confused. Doing better than Khalid.
“We’re in Almyra.” It was a little awkward to talk with his head half-buried in Mom’s shoulder, but he wasn’t exempt from the time frozen in place. “Home.”
We’re Almyran? That doesn’t quite feel right…but it must be true. The girl closed her eyes, pressing one finger to her temple. I can’t remember anything. Why are we joined like this?
In the span of a beating pulse of his heart, Khalid realized who this girl must be.
“That’s kind of a long story, Sothis.”
That’s my name! How did you know that? What is the story? Tell me, quickly!
“I would love to.” Black spots began appearing in Khalid’s vision, eating away at the world around him. “But I think I’m…using up your juice.” Juice? “Tell me how to use this, will you?”
You seem to have stopped time. Seemed to? Did Sothis even know what was going on with her own crest? If you can stop it, you can unwind it. Try walking backwards. Magically.
Time travel. Byleth could control time. She had been able to time travel this entire -
Khalid was home. Byleth’s power hadn’t teleported him home. Byleth’s power had returned him home. Because Byleth had sent him further away than anybody had ever gone before.
It was a good thing Khalid was adaptable.
Khalid closed his eyes and tried. He visualized the last few minutes before running through them backwards, imagining himself separating from his mother and unsaying what was said. He imagined the Vizier walking backwards, papers sloshing down to up, and the shaman shuffling as his giant cane moved backwards to forwards.
Very good. But you are definitely explaining yourself later.
Khalid opened his eyes.
Dad was leaning back, flicking Mom on the head. She hissed, batting him away, and the army of doctors shuffled around them. But when Dad looked back at Khalid he was solemn, and Khalid froze in place. “We don’t know why you’re alive, Khalid. Your heart stopped. We couldn’t get it beating again.”
Khalid experimentally stopped time again. Dad froze, mouth open, eyebrows creased in worry.
What’s the problem this time?
Khalid unfroze time. Dad’s jaw began to work again. “There was nothing we could…”
Khalid stopped time, then rewound it.
Why are you playing around with our power! What is the meaning of this?
It wasn’t playing around. It was testing the heft of an ax before you used it. It was aiming your bow before you released the arrow. Khalid lined up his target, and he knew his aim was true.
Khalid fired, and changed the world.
“I know why I’m alive,” Khalid said solemnly. He took Dad’s hand, squeezing it tightly. “I have to tell you two. Privately. But I’m going to be just fine, Dad.”
Dad raised a hand, and the assembly marched outside. The door fell shut behind them, and Khalid’s familiar chambers felt far wider and emptier with their absence. But Khalid’s enormous bed felt smaller than usual, with Mom and Dad sitting on it and holding his hands.
The look on their faces was so sincere. With an odd sort of vertigo, Khalid realized that his parents actually really loved him. It wasn’t something he had ever stopped to think about. He had never really appreciated it.
Khalid swallowed. If he focused he could breathe in and out normally, but nothing coursed his blood. It was moving, right? Was magic moving it? He had swallowed the stone - no, forget about how disgusting that was, dump that memory in the toilet - but it obviously wasn’t in his stomach. What organs had it shuffled around to…
“Khalid?”
“Dad,” Khalid said weakly. “I - I really love you. Mom, too. You’re my one and only parents. I’m sorry. I hope I didn’t scare you.”
Mom hugged him again, tighter than ever, but Dad just gave him a searching look. Khalid squeezed Mom tightly, as if trying to bring her heart into his own, and when she released him Dad gave him another hug too.
Khalid put his thumb on Dad’s neck. He must have felt it, but he didn’t say anything. Dad’s heart still beat, and Khalid knew that it would have beat his own heart if only it could, and Khalid lost all will to lie to his parents. He lost all desire.
If he was actually in the past, he would already be spinning a story. If he was seventeen he might just be evading the question. But he was eighteen years old and he had lost his entire world, his wide and expansive world filled with people he had only just gotten to know, and he couldn’t lose his parents too. After everything he did to try and save Byleth - he couldn’t let his only parents slip through his fingers like that.
Quietly, Khalid asked, “What’s the date?” Dad gave him the date. “Year, too.” Far more hesitantly, Dad gave him the year. So it was around three months before he left for Fodlan. He could work with that. “Mom, Dad. I got tangled up in some places I shouldn’t have again.”
“What a surprise,” Dad muttered. He finally released him, and Khalid couldn’t help but laugh awkwardly. “What did you do?”
“Damn, what didn’t I do.”
Mom sighed, rubbing her forehead. “Were you experimenting with poisons again? I told you, you shouldn’t do that unsupervised…”
“Did you make a poison that stops the heart and keeps the brain alive?” Dad asked, fascinated. “How? Did you finally find a use for that wormroot we acquired?”
Stole from an Alliance military caravan. But, like, whatever. “No. But Fodlan’s crawling with spirits, Dad. Evil guys possessed by evil spirits, good guys possessed by good ones. Good guys possessed by bad guys possessed by bad spirits. Swords possessed by spirits! Giant axes! Tombs possessed by spirits! It’s kind of incredible.” Despite everything, Khalid found himself fired up just talking about it. “The Goddess’ magic is still all over Fodlan. Every crest bearing family is loaded with magical spirits. They might be cursed? They might be blessings? I never really found out!”
Mom was giving him a strange look. Obviously, Dad was just enthralled. “Have you been researching Fodlan again? I told you to let it be.”
Yeah, Mom hadn’t really wanted him to be curious about half of his heritage. Or maybe she thought he had just been obsessing. Maybe he had been obsessing a bit. He couldn’t help it - everybody wouldn’t stop calling him Fodlani. He wasn’t. It hadn’t been fair. He wasn’t Fodlani, so why couldn’t he be Almyran?
“One of the spirits in Fodlan is a spirit of unimaginable power.” Khalid’s words drew Dad in, and even Mom grew more interested. They knew that Khalid didn’t lie about the truth. “The Goddess’ spirit still resides within Fodlan. You know the Sword of the Creator, Mom?”
Mom’s eyes widened. “How did you find out about that?”
Well. In for a copper, in for a gold, as the Fodlani say. “A host of the Goddess’ spirit told me. She wielded the Sword of the Creator. Mom, she had the Crest of Flames.” Mom’s eyebrows skyrocketed, and Dad quickly looked between them in confusion. “Dad, the Crest of Flames is the strongest spirit in Fodlan. It can bring life and resurrect the dead. It makes you heal faster, like my crest does, but it also makes you way stronger. And nobody knows this - I didn’t even know it until, like, five seconds ago - but the Crest of Flames has power over time itself.”
Mom and Dad looked at each other. Mom tilted an eyebrow up. Dad tilted an eyebrow down.
They should get this out of the way. The rest of this conversation would be pretty useless if they weren’t buying it. Quite unfair not to believe him about things, but them’s the breaks.
Khalid turned to Dad, trying his best to look as earnest and serious and non-delusional as possible. “Dad, think of a question. Think of the answer to the question. Something I couldn’t possibly know at all. That without a doubt I could only know if you told me. Don’t even tell me the question.”
Dad lifted an eyebrow, but he nodded. “This is like when you used to show me how animal muscles move after you dissect them.”
“Or your magic tricks,” Mom said affectionately.
“Mom! This isn’t a magic trick!” It felt a lot like a magic trick. Khalid finally turned back to Dad. “Alright, tell me the answer.”
“You just said not to tell you.”
“Just tell me it.”
“I’m not certain what you’re trying to convince me of, son, but -”
“Dad!”
“Fine, fine! The answer to my question is: at the bin Almyra winter solstice party.”
Holy shit. “Dad, that better not be a question about where I was conceived or something.” Dad looked at the ceiling. Mom whistled. “Ugh! Fine! I’m glad this will never have happened.”
“Will never have -”
I understand what you’re doing, but I still don’t understand you. What has happened? Am I a spirit that is possessing you?
Depends on your point of view. But they didn’t have time for theological debates. Alright, they did, but it was the principle of the thing. Khalid stopped time, feeling the now-familiar pulse in his ears, and quickly rewound time just a few seconds.
Time unshattered. Dad lifted an eyebrow, but he nodded. “This is like when you used to show me how animal muscles move after you dissect them.”
“Or your magic tricks,” Mom said affectionately.
Damn, Khalid didn’t want to say this. “Was the answer to your question ‘the bin Almyra winter solstice party’?”
Dad’s eyebrows skyrocketed. “That’s a hell of a party trick. Where’d you learn how to do that?”
“Fodlan,” Khalid said grimly. “The Crest of Flames allows you to time travel. And…I have it.”
Instantly, Mom scoffed. Dad just looked confused, but Mom knew exactly what he was implying. “Khalid, that’s impossible! The Goddess’ crest, passed onto my son? I don’t know how you’re doing that party trick, but you can’t expect us to believe you.”
Khalid stopped time, letting the now familiar pulse ring through his ears, and rewound time a few seconds.
Time unshattered. “Khalid, that’s impossible! The -”
“Goddess’ crest, passed onto my son?” Khalid asked archly. Mom stopped short. “I don’t know how you’re doing that party trick, but you can’t expect us to believe you? Were you about to say something like that?”
Mom’s eyes narrowed. “Your Father looked ugly as sin at that winter solstice party.”
Khalid sighed. Pause, rewind, unfreeze.
Mom’s eyes narrowed. “Your -”
“Father looked ugly as sin in that winter solstice party.” Father was tragically wounded by this. “Were you about to say that?” Mom’s lips thinned. “Don’t make me keep doing this, I’m getting tired.”
“One last try.” Mother stood up, moving towards his nightstand and rummaging through his drawers. She picked up a coin, easily slipping it through her fingers. She used to have a gambling problem. How she met Dad. Disasters together. “Go ahead. I’ll flip this coin five times, so tell me how it will land each time. The chances of you guessing it correctly five times in a row are infinitesimal.”
Dad looked eagerly at Khalid. He was having the time of his life. He was really along for the ride on this one. “Well, Khalid? Which is it?”
This was a party trick to them! Why couldn’t his parents take things seriously? “You have to flip it first, Mom.”
“Oh, you can only know what side the coin lands on after I flip it? That must be spirits.”
“Yeah, but you’ll believe me after I rewind time.”
“Will this course of action still exist after you rewind time?” Dad asked, fascinated. “Are you making it so that this never happened, or are you jumping to a place where there was a different outcome? Are you creating alternate universes or are you destroying this one? If you do something in the past, will the future -”
“Mom, please flip the coin.” She must have been feeling equally under psychic attack, because Mom flipped the five times and showed him. “Thanks. Dad, I’m not going to think about anything you just said.”
They were weighty questions, Khalid. They are worth -
Nope, he was busy. Pause, rewind, unfreeze.
“If you ask any more questions about how this works, Dad, I swear on my sword -”
“More?”
Mom flipped the coin five times. Each time, Khalid dully repeated how it would come up. Mom’s eyebrows climbed higher and higher, and Dad steadily grew more excited, until Khalid accurately predicted that the last coin would bounce off her hand a little and wobble before it revealed itself as top.
“Son of a bitch,” Mom said, impressed. “My boy can time travel.”
Dad whooped, clasping an arm around Khalid’s shoulders and almost throttling Khalid. He needed that air, Dad, he didn’t have anything else left going for him. “Amazing! Fantastic! This is why you’re my favorite, Khalid. You never stop surprising me. You’re the least boring child I have! Tell me, what are the winning lottery -”
“Khalid,” Mom said, slow and sure, and even Dad stopped. She stared Khalid down, eyes flaming and intent, and Khalid felt frozen still. “How far in the future are you from?”
Khalid laughed awkwardly. He scratched the back of his neck. “Er. Let me tell you the rest of the story first?”
“Khalid.”
“Are we dead?” Dad cried. Excitedly. Dad cried excitedly. “Or is our country devastated? Are you preventing an apocalypse? Did the Alliance win the war?”
“What? Dad, no, it’s only been, like, two years!”
Dad slumped. “Aw. Not even five?”
“Two years?” Mom screeched, and all the rest were increasingly terrible explanations.

Venom of the Past chapter 1
Buried memories
(thank you to Fiya for helping me with the Spanish bits!)
Sugarboo, Seth and Alphonse got to live a happy life, knowing that everything from the past had been dealt with, in one way or another, and they were free to live their lives.
And they all lived happily ever after, the end!
...Except, is it really the end?
As they always say, when one door closes, another one opens, and this door, was to a path that wasn't so forgiving.
It was an early spring, and Sugarboo's home bakery was booming. they were able to quit their old boring job to pursue their love of sweets.
It was a dream come true, baking all through the day, spreading love and cheer through the town, and then coming back home to 2 loving idiots who showered Sugarboo with love. They couldn't ask for it any way else.
They had been away all day delivering orders to happy customers. It was the best part of their job, getting to see their happy faces.
It was while they were on their way to deliver the last of the sweets, that things started to feel...off.
Sugarboo started to get this odd feeling, a sense of anxiety that they hadn't felt in a long time. They brushed it off, thinking it was just anxiety for tomorrow's orders they still had to bake, but the feeling continued.
It got worse, though, when they were almost to the customer's house,
Thunk!
"¿Que?" Sugarboo was surprised with the sound, their car starting to lose speed as, what was most likely, the tire lost air.
"¡Fantastico!" Sugarboo sighed, "flat tire. Hopefully I can make it back to Al's so Seth can help me out with it"
Their car rumbled along the rest of the way to their destination. After giving the older man the cake with a smile, Sugarboo stalked back to their car to check out their tire. When they got there, though, something unexpected caught their attention.
"What the-?" Sugarboo questioned as they rounded the corner. Sticking out of their back tire was an arrow. They squatted down to take a look at it. It was deep in the tire, if it's presence itself wasn't odd enough. This gave Sugarboo a bad feeling, as they got back in their car to drive to Alphonse's house.
As they drove, though, the feeling of anxiety deepened. They couldn't pinpoint it exactly, but it felt like they were being watched. No matter where they turned, it felt like there were eyes boring into the back of their head.
When they finally rolled to a stop in front of Alphonse's house, they felt too scared to get out of their car, calling Seth's phone instead.
Ring ring!
Ring r-
"Hey Sugar!" Seth's voice rang through the unsettling silence that had settled in the car, comforting Sugarboo.
"Hey Seth. I'm outside in my car right now, can you come get me?" Sugarboo looked around, trying to see if they could place where the feeling of being watched was coming from.
"Really Sugar? You're a big boy, you don't need me to come get you" Seth laughed, but that did nothing to calm Sugarboo's anxiety.
"Seth, please" Sugarboo begged him.
It seemed like Seth could tell that something was wrong, because Sugarboo could hear rustling from the other end of the phone as he talked. "Well alrighty then, I'm comin"
Sugarboo only sighed as their anxiety was calmed, hanging up the phone as Seth came around the corner.
Sugarboo unlocked their door to finally collapse in their boyfriend's arms.
"Oof- jeez Sugar, miss me that much?" Seth joked as he hugged Sugarboo.
"Hmmm, you could say that" Sugarboo sighed as they melted in Seth's arms. Even if they were in his arms, though, they could still feel eyes everywhere.
"You ok there? You seemed really scared over the phon- what the?" Seth loosened his grip on Sugarboo as he noticed the arrow in the car's tire.
The two separated to let Seth take a look at the arrow. He tried to pull it out by hand, but it wouldn't budge.
"Jeez, what happened?" Seth looked up at Sugarboo from where he was squat down.
"I don't know. I was on my way to my last delivery when I heard a loud noise and my tire started to loose air. After I got out and did my delivery, I found that" Sugarboo concluded by pointing at the offending arrow.
"Hm, d'ya think it might have been an accident..?" Seth tried, but Sugarboo could tell he was also getting the same feeling of anxiety they had been having for the past 10 minutes.
"No... It's too early for hunting season yet, and" Sugarboo tried to pull the arrow out themself, struggling. "that thing's lodged in there good, whoever shot that did it deliberately."
Seth's face darkened as the two looked at the arrow. "Let's head inside"
"Yeah," Sugarboo agreed as Seth started to get up. Before they could turn and leave, though, they noticed something tied to the arrow.
"C'mon Sugar, this don't feel right to me" Seth urged them to follow, but Sugarboo squatted down to untie the paper. "What's that?" He asked as the paper came into view.
"It was on the arrow I wonder if..." Sugarboo trailed off as they read the note. Their eyes widening and face pale as they read the short note.
Baking cookies? You've gone soft BS
-boss
Seth read the note in confusion over Sugarboo's shoulder.
"BS? What does that mean Su- woah!" Seth yelped as Sugarboo grabbed his hand and dragged him into the house.
Slamming the door behind them, Sugarboo began to lock the front door before running to the back and locking that one too.
"Hm? Oh hey boo! What's... What's going on?" Alphonse greeted them as they ran through the house, making sure all of the windows were locked, and then covered. "Seth, what's going on?"
"I don't know. They came home with an arrow lodged in their tire and there was this weird note attached" Seth explained as much as he could, as the two watched Sugarboo race around, making double sure that everything was locked and covered.
"Hey, boo, what's wrong?" Alphonse got up from where he was sitting and walked towards a wide-eyed Sugarboo, trying to comfort them.
"You... You need to go sit down" Sugarboo pointed towards the dining room table, "you too Seth."
"Sugar c'mon, what's wrong?" Seth walked towards them as well.
"Would you just cállete and sit down?!" Sugarboo snapped at the two, pausing after realizing what they've just said.
Seth and Alphonse just sat at the table quietly, waiting for Sugarboo to calm down.
The two watched Sugarboo as they paced back and forth in the living room, a look of anxiety stuck on their face.
They finally turned and strode towards the table, standing behind the chair.
"...hey, boo?" Alphonse tried to start the conversation, "what's, uh, what's going on?"
Sugarboo stayed silent for a while, still trying to form the words in their head. This would probably be the hardest conversation they've ever had in their life.
"You... You remember how before Seth came back to town, there had been a lot about your past you never shared with me?" Sugarboo looked at Alphonse.
"Yeah?" Al looked at Seth before looking back at Sugarboo.
"Well," Sugarboo sighed, before placing the piece of paper in the middle of the table, "let's just say that arrow was my version of Seth"
Alphonse took the paper and held it for the two boys to read. After reading it, though, they were puzzled.
"boo, what does this mean?" Alphonse was the first to ask, "I mean, 'BS' and 'Boss', what do those mean or, who are they?"
Sugarboo looked away again, trying to figure out which to answer first, and how.
"BS stands for... It was a shortened version of my code name" they finally landed on an answer, but that only left the other two confused.
"Code name? For what? And, why?" Alphonse questioned them, "boo you're scaring me, what does this all mean?"
"It means I was in the mob"
The room was silent as Sugarboo blurted it out. Seth and Alphonse stared wide-eyed at Sugarboo as they tried their best to continue.
"I... I was in the mob. It's not something I'm proud of, and it's not something I thought would come back to haunt me," Sugarboo explained, "I thought I covered my trail well enough but... It seems like they found me again."
The boys just continued to stare in astonishment at Sugarboo before Alphonse broke the silence.
"Boo, why... Why didn't you tell us? We told you about what we did in the gang, why didn't you tell us? I thought-"
"Being in the mob is different than being in a gang Alphonse!" Sugarboo snapped at him, "being in the mob means death is the first option, and being murdered is considered mercy."
The room fell to silence once more as the trio let everything sink in.
"I didn't want to tell you I was in the mob because..." Sugarboo's voice started to crack before they stopped speaking.
"... because why sugar?" Seth's voice was soft as he looked at them.
"Because I didn't want you two to look at me different" Sugarboo looked down at where their hands were gripping the back of the chair, their knuckles white.
"Why would we look at you any different?" Seth asked, "you know what we've done, we would be hypocrites to judge you sugar."
"...you don't know what I've done." Sugarboo sighed as they finally dropped down into the chair.
"Then what did you do?" Alphonse piped up, trying to keep his voice light.
Sugarboo let the air fall silent once more as they thought about the best way to answer. But who were they kidding, there was no 'best way' to tell your two loving partners the horrific acts you'd done just a few years prior.
"I... I murdered people" Sugarboo's voice broke as they told Seth and Al what they had done. "dios, I-I killed so many people."
Alphonse and Seth just watched Sugarboo as they broke down in tears, sobbing as they told the two everything they had done.
"I hurt them. I hurt them all. I tortured, I killed, I did so, so many things" Sugarboo sobbed into their hands, rambling on and on, "I thought I could get away from it all, I thought I could get away from them but I should have known better. Should have known I couldn't run away from what I'd done. No puedo huir de lo que soy"
"I'm un monstruo, and I thought I could lie to myself, lie to you two, and make everything better. I should have known better." Sugarboo couldn't hear anything outside of the sound of their sobbing and the noise coming from their brain, so they didn't hear the two boys getting up.
Before they knew what was happening, they felt two pairs of arms wrap around them, sandwiching them in a tight embrace as they continued to cry into whoever's shoulder was closest.
"Oh boo, you know I would never look at you different" Alphonse's voice came from somewhere within the warm embrace Sugarboo found themselves in.
"Yeah sugar, we love you too much, we don't care what you've done" Seth's voice was close to their ear, whispering comfort that calmed Sugarboo down.
Sugarboo just shook their head as they gripped onto the person in front of them.
"You two are pendejos. I don't know how you survived this long with a mindset like that" Sugarboo laughed as they began to calm down, "but thank you. It means a lot to hear that."
"Of course sugar," it was easier to pinpoint Seth's voice now that they weren't sobbing, and they realized that Seth was the one in front of them, and that they had been sobbing into his chest.
Once they had calmed down, Sugarboo pulled away from the giant hug they had been squished in, looking at the boys as they smiled. "Thank you again. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have you two idiots with me."
"Hey!" Alphonse gasped as he grabbed Sugarboo, "take that back!"
"No!" Sugarboo giggled as Alphonse started tickling them, laughing harder as he started to tickle them. "Seth! Help!"
Seth just smiled at the two and chuckled. "Alright, alright. Break it up you two."
It took a minute before all the giggles stopped, after that, Sugarboo just basked in the peaceful silence. They didn't know how they did it, but somehow, Seth and Al always knew how to put a smile on their face no matter what the problem was.
"So..." Seth scratched the back of his neck, "not that I love just laughing with you two, but I think now we need to talk about what this whole arrow situation means."
"Right" Sugarboo sighed as they flopped down at the table with their head in their hands.
They stared at the note in deep thought, trying to form a plan in their head. For the first time in a while, Sugarboo didn't know where to start. They never thought they would be found, they did their best to cover their tail, but it seems, even after everything they did to hide, they really couldn't run from their past. Finally, their thoughts straightened some details out enough to start to plan.
"Alright, here's what we're gonna do," Sugarboo stood up and turned towards the two boys, "Alphonse, I need you to start packing some bags, we can't stay here. Seth, I think it's best if we take my car so I need you to fix the tire. After that go help Alphonse with the bags."
Seth and Alphonse nodded before moving to start their tasks. Before Alphonse left the room, though, he turned to Sugarboo.
"By the way boo. While we're doing all this, what are you going to be doing?" Alphonse asked them.
"I'm gonna make a call," Sugarboo looked at Alphonse, "there's an old friend that might have some information on what's happening."
"Ah ok. Good luck boo" Alphonse kissed them before heading off to pack the bags.
Sugarboo smiled at him before their face fell. This was not something they wanted to do, and this was not someone they wanted to talk to after... Everything. No matter how much they didn't want to, they knew that they would be the only way to get to the bottom of this.
With a sigh, they picked up their phone and dialed a number they hoped was still the same after all this time.

tired of losing you
sunmary: during a heated argument, you finally find out how grayson feels.
pairing: grayson x mc
word count: 2097 (yikes)
based on the request: angry love confession
request a drabble here!
**unedited//listen its not my best work but it is what it is**
you don't know where your phone is. truth be told, you don't even care about it that much. the smartphone is big and clunky, uncomfortable to hold and you've dropped it more times than you can count. but everyone was insistent that you use it and that you take it everywhere you go. you can’t blame them; they’re terrified you’re going to disappear at any moment and you are too, but you do miss your old blackberry more than anything.
“mc!” grayson calls suddenly from the other side of the apartment and you pause your searching in the drawers of your desk to see what he wants. you meet him halfway in the passage, an exasperated look on his face. things are not what they used to be with him. he’s still your best friend and you love him more than you've ever loved anyone, but he’s changed almost too much for you to keep up with. he’s always an edge, looking over his shoulder like he’s worried something inexplicably bad is going to happen to you if he’s not prepared for it.
“this was in the pantry,” he tells you, sighing heavily, and it’s then that you realise he’s holding your phone out to you.
“you found it!” you say, offering him a bright smile as you take it from him. you turn it over in your hands, the sleek black screen reflecting your face back to you before it slips from your fingers and smacks against the floor, a curse leaving your lips as you rush to pick it back up. “thank you, gray.”
you look back up at him in time to see him drag his hand over his face, the other planted firmly on his hip. “you need to keep better track of your phone,” he says, his tone pleading and you frown slightly. “this isn’t the first time you’ve just left it somewhere and forgotten about it.”
“i’m sorry,” you mumble, feeling oddly scolded by him. “i’m trying my best.”
he sighs again, his blue eyes finding yours and the hard lines of his face soften slightly. “you need to try harder,” he says as he takes your hands in his, holding onto them tightly in an attempt to convey his desperation to you. “i know this is difficult for you but it’s difficult for me too.”
you can’t help but notice how talks about himself specifically. everytime you’ve gotten this speech, it’s always ‘we this’ and ‘us that’. but now it’s just you, him and the tension that’s been steadily building between the two of you ever since you got back. you don’t know what it is specifically, but you feel your friendship teetering on the edge of the line, either destined for something greater or irreversible damage. you know what you’re hoping for but you can’t say the same for the man in front of you, not when you feel like you no longer know who he is, like he's no longer the man you fell in love with.
he’s talking again, you're watching his lips move, his big blue eyes staring at you imploringly, but you don’t hear a word he says. too wrapped up in your own thoughts, in the tightness crowding your chest. he’s right, you know that, but his words cut deep. you’re not trying hard enough. you can’t shake the feeling that you can’t do anything right, that even though everyone is happy to have you back, you’ve become a burden to them, to grayson. something they need to be constantly worried about. the thought of yet again disappearing without a trace is a constant fear that haunts you, and yet it feels like you're the only one who can't seem to keep it together.
"mc?" he says again, his voice quieter now, almost sounding like he's on the verge of giving up entirely and your heart slams into your ribcage.
"i'm sorry," you squeak out again, your gaze flitting to a different point on his face. you can't focus with those eyes of his staring back at you, begging and pleading for you to stay, for you to not be so reckless. "i'll do better."
he nods, taking a deep breath and you imagine he's trying to convince himself to trust you. glancing down to where he still holds your hands, he hesitantly drops them to shove one of his own in the front pocket of his jeans and drag the other through his hair. "okay," he says, nodding again before looking back at you. "i have to go back to the precinct for a while, kelsey and i have some reports we need to do. please keep your phone on and with you. please, mc."
you nod, unable to speak, fearful that you might cry if you do. he stands there for a moment before he pulls you into him, his arm wrapping you in a side hug that's too awkward for what a hug between you should be.
all too soon he's stepping away from you, mumbling a goodbye and an i'll talk to you later as you watch him leave the apartment. you feel colder without him there with you, the walls starting to close in and you spin on your feet, returning to your bedroom where you set the phone on your night stand and collapse on your bed.
gralex is quick to get up from her perch on your pillows, pressing up against you as she meows for attention. a sad smile curls at your lips as you drag your fingers through her fur and she begins to purr. "at least i can't disappoint you, huh girl?" you mutter and she chirps in response before beginning to knead her paws in your side. you grimace at the sting of her claws but you don't do anything to make her stop. with everyone usually only holding onto you more out of fear of losing you than anything else, you'll take the pure and unadulterated affection anywhere you can get it, even if it hurts.
soon your cat has fallen asleep, her purring coming to an unfortunate end, leaving you alone with your thoughts once more. the silence is deafening and the air is too thick. you can't stay here, doing nothing, withering away until you're nothing more than a husk of the person you used to be. more than that though, you can't keep disappointing everyone around you. least of all grayson.
you stand up suddenly, rushing to your closet to put on shoes and a coat. you need to make things right with him, you have to show him that you meant what you said, that you're done being a burden.
dressed and ready, you press a kiss to the top of gralex's head and grab your keys before leaving the apartment, determination in your step.
you don't know how long you spend out - hours, if the sun sinking lower into the horizon is anything to go off of. you didn't really have a plan for what you wanted to do which meant you spent most of your time walking around, avoiding eye contact with everyone who watched your move and getting lost more than once.
the first thing you did was buy grayson flowers. you'd walked by a street vendor selling bouquets of mixed wildflowers and you couldn't resist. you made sure to choose one you know he'd like; cool colours of blue and purple and a soft floral scent that wasn't too strong, bound together with a bronze rippon.
next you'd somehow managed to find yourself in a polish grocery store where you got a box full of his favourite pastries. you doubt they'd be as good as his mother's recipes but they'd do the trick just fine.
lastly, you bought a bottle of white wine in hopes that with a bit of liquid courage, the two of you can finally get through this strange and awkward phase your friendship seems to be stuck in. you want nothing more than for things to return to how they used to be but you'll settle for just being able to move on.
by the time you get back home, the sun has gone down and you're thankful that your time out gave you a chance to think things over and clear your head.
you're somewhat surprised when you walk in and find grayson sitting on the couch, bent over himself, his eyes on the wall ahead of him and his arms crossed over his knees.
"hey, gray," you say. your voice comes out softer than you would've liked and you clear your throat. when he doesn't reply, you shift awkwardly on your feet, glancing between him and all the items in your hands. "i was thinking we could order in for dinner and for after, i got us some pastries that i think you'll like."
he stands up, slowly turning to face you with unreadable look on his face. wordlessly, he holds up your phone and your eyes widen at the sight of it. you'd forgotten it again.
"shit… gray, i-"
"do you know how many times i called you today?" he asks, cutting you off. you frown at him and open your mouth to respond but he goes on before you get the chance. "what about your mom, you wanna guess? or callie, or kennedy, or alex? hell, even kelsey gave it a try."
"gray…" you whisper, your voice cracking slightly as you say his name but he raises his other hand to stop you from going any further, his face twisting in anger.
"you promised, mc! you promised me you wouldn't forget and yet that's the first you did." he pauses for a second, his hand going to his hair as he takes a deep breath. "do you know how worried i get whenever i hear that stupid fucking voicemail of yours? do you know how many times i've had to relive that moment of you going missing because you can't just do one simple thing?"
tears begin to well in your eyes and you find it difficult to breathe, your chest tightening with each word he throws at you. "i'm sorry," you whisper, the phrase leaving a bitter taste on your tongue. you don't know what else you can say in this moment, you're not sure such words even exist.
he shakes his head and closes his eyes, tears of his own slipping down his cheeks. "that doesn't mean anything anymore!" he shouts and you involuntarily move backward. you've never seen grayson so angry, never heard him raise his voice, so to be on the receiving end of it now is jarring. "i am so terrified of losing you again but i can't keep doing this with you. i love you too much to go on like this."
your eyes widen. despite the severity of this moment, you can't help but latch onto that word and for the first time in a long time, you let yourself hope it means what you want it to. What you need it to.
"you love me?" you ask quietly and he looks at you then, an exasperated laugh leaving him.
"of course i fucking do. i've loved you for half of my life but was i was always too much of a coward to say anything."
before you even know what you're doing, you've dropped everything in your hands and started to walk towards him. you come to stand in front of him and his eyes widen slightly as you raise your hands to him but before he can say anything, you grab him by the neck and pull him down to crash your lips against his.
it's messy. it's desperate. it's so unlike what you thought kissing grayson would be like. but his arms are around you and he's holding you tight and he's kissing you back. all like his life depends on it.
he pulls away first, breathing heavily as he presses his forehead to yours. "i love you so much," he says softly, his eyes squeezed shut. "i can't lose you again."
bringing your hands up to cup his face, you let your eyes flutter shut. in the warmth of his embrace, enveloped by his cologne, you can feel yourself begin to calm down. "you won't," you reply, your voice earnest.
his hold on you suddenly tightens. "promise me."
you tilt your head back and let your lips ghost over his once more, desperate to kiss again and again until your lungs give out.
"i promise."

Kirara Rising Chapter 3
I stood alone with my teacher, Satoru Gojo. My hands were politely held together in front of my waist. My posture was perfect except for a slight droop in my neck.
Gojo on the other hand stood slouching and leaning his lanky body on the chalkboard. Believe it or not, his standing in Jujutsu Society was higher than even my father’s. That didn’t stop my father and his contemporaries from futilely scolding Gojo for not heeding their pompous orders.
I always harbored a hidden fondness toward Gojo for this. His power and confidence was a reminder that out there change was possible. What this change could be I was never sure but he looked at all his students with such fondness. I thought we were all a part of his dubious plans.
Gojo tilted his head back to expose his neck. “What was with that sad sack shit?” He asked coyly. “I know your dad’s one of those uptight losers but I have higher hopes for you.”
I wasn’t surprised or hurt at his words. I kept my composure as I spoke. “I apologize for disappointing you. I will attempt to do better.”
“Blah blah blah” Gojo mocked me, sticking out his tongue and clapping his thumb to his other fingers to imitate a yapping mouth. “Aren’t you sick and tired of acting like a lil’ goodie goodie all the time.”
“I’m sorry, sir. I don’t know what you mean.”
“C’mon, Hoshi! I can see something in you begging… CRYING to get out. You’ve been skating by so far. But trust me…”Gojo lifted his blind fold revealing his eyes that reflected what seemed like hundreds of intricately connected shades of blue. It was an intense mosaic, steadily and almost dreadfully peering at my soul. His grin returned. “You’re destined to be something beautiful and true. After all… we both have special eyes… and one day they’ll meet on equal ground.”
I stood dumbfounded. My eyes were wide and my face was pale. Gojo might act like a fool but all the students were aware that it was just a mask to bring our guards down. Sometimes I couldn’t tell if it was to nurture us… or to one day devour us.
Suddenly my panic was interrupted. There was a familiar kick at the door. “This better be good, shithead!” A voice erupted. “I’ve got a hell of a headache and no patience for your…” his voice softened when he saw me. “Oh. Hey, Hoshi.”
He greeted me with a stiff wave. I apprehensively waved back. The blood Gojo had drained from my face rushed back to my cheeks. Gojo smugly chuckled.
“Hakari, so happy to see your shining, happy mug!” Gojo teased. His more methodical side returned and his sunny grin curled into a devious smirk once more, “I want you two to team up for a mission.”
“WHAT!?” I screamed jolting up right.
“Seriously..?,” Hakari sighed, “you could’ve texted that…”
“WHAT HAPPENED TO SORCERERS BEING SELFISH, WHY MAKE US TEAM UP!?” I sputtered the words out instinctively waving my hands wildly just to fail at convincing anyone… including myself…
“Exactly and I’m selfish enough to send you two on a mission cuz I think it’d be fun to see how you work together.”
I was stuttering trying to think of excuses while Hakari was slack jawed, dumbfounded by Gojo’s audacity.
“What do you say boys!? Wanna take on your toughest challenge yet!?” Gojo lifted his blind fold to cut eyes at us “Or will those stars in your eyes never get to shine.”

Chapter 28: Trapped again
I felt myself bounce slightly as I came back to my senses. Opening my ruby red eyes, I saw nothing but shiny metal.
My mind was foggy, and my brain didn't register what had happened. However, I bounced because of the object I was in again before I remembered.
Memories of everything that had happened flooded into my brain. I quickly lifted my head, and scanned my surroundings.
I remembered everything now. Zoha's screech. How I went to inspect what happened, the humans and then... nothing.
I remembered how I felt something pinch my neck, how I felt sluggish. How I collapsed. And then... everything went dark.
I snarled and looked at my wings when I noticed that they had felt a lot heavier than normal.
I snarled when I saw familiar metal objects clipped onto my wings. I looked at my tail and saw that it had also been clipped by the metal things.
I hissed and moved from side to side to try to get out. I didn't want to be trapped again! I didn't want to go back!
I heard muffled yelling from in front of me. I knew that it was the humans that had done this. Captured and caged me.
Like I was some feral animal that would kill anything in sight. I was an animal, yes, but I wasn't feral enough to just attack without reason!
I felt my heart drop as I remembered my brothers. They weren't caught too, right? They got away, right? Fled to a safer area!
I hoped so. I desperately hoped so. I didn't want them to get caught again. But... I was more worried about Zoha... my little brother.
" ZOHA!"
I yelled, and got a weak reply from behind me. I heard the humans yell, how they yelled that I had woken up from my forced slumber.
" S...Sekido?"
" Zoha?! Where are you?! Are you okay?!"
I could hear the sleepiness still linger in his voice. I jated those bastards with a burning passion. I'll make sure they die before I can escape with my brothers and-
" Where are the humans?! Sekido?! Where are they?!
I hadn't forgotten about them. Especially the emotional one. I felt bad for her, if she was captured as well.
" I... I don't know..."
I was honest. I really didn't know where the two kind humans were. I was worried for their safet. I could only show anger.
No matter how many times I try to show another emotion besides anger, it never really worked. I guessed because I was destined to be a short tempered dragon.
" But I hope that they managed to escape or got far away from these assholes."
" I didn't know you cursed."
" Of course I curse! What did you think?! I say unicorns instead of fuck?"
" I mean...."
" Oh for fuck's sake..."
I dragged a paw over my face. Well, as best as I could in the cramped space I resided in. That's when I realized that I cursed in front of my younger brother.
My eyes widened as a look of horror crossed my face. I panicked and began to yell at Zoha to NOT curse.
" Do not fucking curse! That is a command!"
" You just fucking cursed, fucking bastard!"
" Hey! Watch your motherfucking language!"
I snarled, and regretted ever cursing in front of my younger brother. Although, I was a but proud that he cursed.
It just meant that he was growing into a mature dragon. In my opinion, of course. I didn't think of how disappointed Aizetsu would be.
If he found out that Zoha knew how to curse. I shivered as I remembered how he whacked me on the head with his paws last time.
It hurt like a bitch. I heard a few groans from Karaku. He was somewhere in front of my environment. Although, his groans wet muffled.
" Karaku!"
" Where are we?! No- WHERE ARE YOU?!"
" In a place called fucking metal shit."
" ZOHA CAN CURSE?!"
I groaned in anger, too tired to deal with his shenanigans. I just hoped that he wouldn't curse in fr-
" That's fucking awesome!"
Any hope that I had left evaporated into thin air. I snarled, not pleased that everyone started to curse after they woke up.
" I thought I said that no curses!"
" You curse! Why can't we use the words shit and fuck? Is because we are younger than you?"
" Oh for the love of-"
" Shut up you fucking whore!"
" WHO TAUGHT YOU THAT WORD?!"
I was shocked he used the word "whore", which made me feel not so proud anymore. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut.
" Um... Oh- I don't know! Maybe the fucking sun?!"
" HOW THE HELL DOES THE S-"
" You really are a dumb bastard."
" Hah! Finally someone calls you a bastard!"
I huffed, backing down from arguing with my wide awake brothers. Except Aizetsu and Urogi. They were still knocked out.
I remained quiet, thinking. How did we get caught again? With Zoha this time?! I felt horrible that he got dragged into this shit.
I knew that we were trapped again. This time, with out or baby brother. I felt like I was the one to blame.
" Aye! What's going on? Are we in Dragon Heaven?"
Oh for fuck's sake. Urogi was wide awake. I was about to reply, telling him what was going on when I was rudely interrupted.
" Of course we are! We are so in Dragon Heaven!"
" REALLY?!"
" Of course not, you fucking idiot!"
" SINCE WHEN DID HE CURSE?!"
" Since I woke up."
He hissed, displeased by how everyone started cursing. At least Aizetsu didn't curse. He was the only one so far to not curse. Yet.
" Can everyone shut the fuck up?! We are being fucking taken somewhere! And I need to think!"
" Wait- you have a brain?!"
He facepalmed, dragging his paw to be on his nose. Dear Dragon God he hated how Zoha had ways to insult him.
" OH SHIIIIII-!"
I slid towards the wall in front of me, faceplanting against the cool metal. I felt insulted by it.
I heard people talking. A woman and a man. I bared my teeth as I thought of them being the culprits to our capture.
" I see you got quite the feisty dragons, Mrs. Yami."
" I also got the dragon you wanted. Here is your ¥340. Just as I promised."
So the woman was Yami? I growled, ears lowered as my rage bubbled inside my chest. I fucking hated her already.
" Ah! The fights will be a lot more interesting! You may use any machines! Do as you please!"
" I thank you. Drive to the muzzle barn. I'll see you all there after discussing some business with our dealer."
And the object I was trapped in moved again. I just hoped that my brothers and I would be freed again.
Hopefully the humans escaped. I didn't want to think about what that cruel woman would do to them.
Whatever her intentions were, I knew that they would be nothing but evil. I thought of many things of what her intentions were.
But I was unsure. She could kill the humans in front of us, or use them as an advantage to make us battle other dragons.
" Well... I don't like what I heard..."
" Welcome to the real world where everything is fucked up."
" Who taught you that foul word?"
" He taught himself."
" Well... don't use that word again."
" I bet that he won't listen."
I sighed and waited for... whatever was going to happen next. We were still caught, but as a family this time. Not like last time.
I had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. I just didn't know what. I could only focus on the safety of my brothers and the two humans.
I waited, hoping that it wouldn't be as bad as I thought it would be.

As they walk Antha lifts into the sky every now and then to make sure they're still on their course.
They've been walking for around fifteen minutes now, the long grasses were hard to trudge in and Thomas got tired of trying to keep up and annoyed at how much he was tripping and being tangled, being four is hard when everything is big.
So Patton has him on his back now, Thomas dozing in and out of sleep every few seconds.
The long grass turns into a dirt pathway, it's not far now until the cemetery.
The sky gets darker with every minute that passes and with the last five or so minutes that have passed to get to their destination it's almost completely darkened.
They stand before a rickety metal gate with broken hinges and rusty fencing.
Antha blows the gate open and zooms off to look at the tombstones.
She's not exactly sure where Melody is buried but she knows it's here somewhere.
It doesn't take her long to find it though, she guides them to the worse for wear grave.
It reads:
Meoldy Hugo.
Beloved Daughter, from a loving mother.
Beloved Mother to a sweet little boy.
And Beloved Niece to a brave aunt.
Loved by the community sadly taken too soon.
1971 - 1993
Antha kneels at her daughters grave, her hand resting on the face of it.
Her own face is saddened to read of how young Melody was when she died.
Antha looks over to the grave next to Melody's, it's her own, her eyes narrow at the empty grave but then turns to fire when she notices the one next to hers.
The fire in her eyes turn quite literally when she destroys the already crumbling stone then turns her attention to the children.
Her eyes soften at them before she swirls herself around the group, surrounding them in a ghostly hug.
She then floats to the back of Melody's grave and hovers there.
Logan walks up first, she takes the locket out of her pocket.
The others walk up in front of the grave with Logan.
"I wish we could have known you more" Patton says.
"Yeah" Virgil agrees, "having a ghost friend around would be super cool."
"Imagine the pranks we could pull!" Remus adds.
"No one would see them coming" Dee says.
Antha laughs a silent little laugh at the children's thoughts.
Logan looks up at Antha, her brows knit together in confusion which is not something that happens often.
"I'm not sure what this feeling is but..." she trails off trying to think of her words, "I feel a kind of connection with you and I'm going to miss you."
Antha smiles down at Logan, she cups her cheek and kisses her forehead.
Logan smiles, for reasons unknown to herself soft tears start to fall and she tries to wipe them away but they won't go.
She kneels with the still falling tears and digs a hole deep enough so the locket wouldn't get dug up.
For once she doesn't care about how dirty she is, the mud on her hands and under her nails don't seem to bother her as of right now.
She looks up from her position on the ground to see softness in Antha's eyes.
"Bye" her voice comes out softer than expected, she places the locket in the hole and buries it.
Almost immediately Antha starts to glow, a bright brilliant silver with sparkles and streaks of elegant blues.
Her form twirls and swirls, she's practically dancing around them as her form changes from her ghostly aura to a more solid person.
The deathly paleness of her tanned skin leaves her, the shining spots on her face and arms stay shining however more freckle looking than before, her hair is now tamed from the water like movements it had.
Her dress is now cleaned and devoid of rips and the gash around her throat has vanished.
For the first time she's able to speak to them.
"Thank you, all of you" she glances to each one of them -tenderness solid in her words- "I would never be able to thank you enough, you seven have made my last moments as a spirit wonderful, not to mention the only ones to ever even try to help."
"Of course we would" Patton says, "we couldn't not."
Antha smiles "I hope you keep that kindness and tenderness in your hearts, the world needs more of it."
One last glance around, she ends on Logan.
She lands her hand on Logan's head petting her, "I must go now, I wish nothing but amazingness and joy for you - all of you."
And then in a brilliant flash, she's gone.

Road Trip to Nowhere
This is a spiel about my journey through school as a gifted kid turned ‘failure’.
For context, in The Land Down Under (Australia), you need to rack up hours of logged driving to get off your learner’s permit where a person with a full licence must accompany you every time you drive. Whenever I mention “hours”, I mean getting logged time to be able to get to do the driving test!
TW: mentions of car crashes, near misses, etc. Nothing graphic (although there’s one part that was a punch in the face to reread after forgetting about this for 2 years lol)
Unedited, lazy, old work… idk just read it. If it makes sense it makes sense ig whatever
I feel like I’m on a road trip.
Driving through life, changing speeds, turning corners
People I’ve met along the way in the back seats, screaming, laughing, conversing
Enjoying themselves while I keep my eyes on the road
I feel like I’m on a road trip
Making sure everyone in the back seats stay happy and content while I drive
Never taking my eyes off of what’s far in front of me
Looking for all the things my parents taught me when I was learning
“Keep your eyes on the peripherals, just in case something happens”
“Don’t worry, you’re going to have an accident eventually. It won’t be too bad, I’m sure”
“Keep your speed up, you’re doing so well, keep going!”
“Just keep going, we’re almost there, then we’ll all be happy, and you will too!”
I feel like I’m on a road trip
Where every shoulder has glass, providing only a small path that I can go
Where every pothole or piece of debris feels like the end of the world for the car and the people in the back
Where every passing car seems to be heading in the right direction, not my direction
I feel like I’m on a road trip
With my eyes, black dabbed beneath them, slowly starting to close, exhaustion breaking in
“Are you ok?”
“They’re fine! We’re almost there, right? How much further?”
“Only a few more kilometers,” my parents say, “then we turn left for the next leg. You’ll make it, right?”
“Um, I’m not sure… I’m getting tired-”
“But that’s such a large portion of hours wasted! You’ll be fine, you just gotta keep going. We believe in you, you haven’t struggled before!”
The kilometers drag on. Most people have gotten off at different places, now only certain people remain. Usually adults.
I keep pushing through, keeping every yawn, every anxious tear, down as to not make my parents upset.
I’m supposed to be able to get through it, right? They didn’t care when I said I was tired last time, why would they now?
With a white-knuckled grip, and wide eyes, I forced myself to keep driving
I feel like I’m on a road trip
That I’ve been driving on for too long,
My attention beginning to slip, and periods of time go unnoticed and irrecoverable to my mind
I stopped remembering how long I had been driving, like I had logged out
I liked logging out, it made it easier to bear the strain and exhaustion I was carrying
The problem came when I logged back on
“What are you doing, get back in your lane!” My mother screamed
I swerved to avoid a massive truck that narrowly missed us. When had I gone over the line?
“What was that? You can’t let that happen again, you nearly got us hurt, I’m so scared!”
“Sorry…”
“Sorry isn’t good enough, you say it all the time. Just don’t do it again. You usually never do stuff like that, get it together!” My father said
I feel like I’m on a road trip
Seemingly never ending, to get to one destination, and then inevitably come back
It’s really no wonder I feel so tired, and why I’m struggling. Avoiding those potholes and that debris on the road used all my energy in the first part of the journey, and because I’ve had no rest, I’ve lost focus and become more complacent.
But because my parents are constantly hovering over me, expecting me to do my best all the time, and not suspecting something else is causing these lapses, I’m not willing to admit something is wrong and I need to stop.
Because they won’t approve.
I feel like I’m on a road trip
Where all the trees and flowers fly swiftly past
Where the black bitumen stretches for miles
Where my eyes struggle to stay focussed in the dark night
A road trip where I’ve been driving for too long
Ignoring the “Take a Break” signs posted on the sides of the road
Where I’m slowly losing control
Where I’m slowly losing consciousness
“I was on a road trip,” I say, tears constricting my throat.
“And I think I fell asleep. I woke up to the sound of fire crackling and someone screaming for me to get out…”
“Why didn’t you take a break from driving? A learner should know their limits.”
“I wasn’t allowed to.”
“Who said you weren’t allowed to?”
“…my parents.”
“So you didn’t stop to take a much needed rest, just because your parents said you didn’t need to?”
“…yes.” It sounds stupid. So stupid. From an outside perspective, it looks ridiculous. Allowing your parents to put your life and their life on the line for some hours of driving?
“Kid, do you know who was in the other car?”
“Huh?”
“The other car,” said the man, “the one over there?”
He pointed to a wrecked suv, on it’s side, fluids, glass and metal strewn everywhere. Pieces that had been cut laid next to it.
“No…”
“There was a family of 4 in there. A child, a teenager, and two parents.”
I just stared. It didn’t seem real.
“Only 2 survived, a child and the father.”
I just stood there. No tears, no overwhelming fear… I feel tired.
“The child, the teen, and the mother. You know them, correct?”
I feel tired. “Yes.”
“Well, now you don’t”
I turned to him, caught off guard. He had already left, though.
He was walking away, towards the countless lights and sirens bouncing around the road.
I feel like I’m on a road trip
Gone horribly wrong
I looked around.
I feel like I should be searching for something, something important
Nothing comes to mind immediately.
“I wonder how Banjo is right now.”
I don’t know why my mind went to the golden scruff of our dog
Rather than my mother
Or my father
Or my friends
Or the other family
But it did
“He probably misses us.”
He doesn’t know any better
I think that’s why
Why my brain went to him rather than the people I hurt
Because, unlike the people around me
Banjo was the only one that hadn’t hurt someone
He’s the only soul that held absolutely no hate
He had done nothing in his short life to make anyone upset
Happiness following the clinking of his collar and tag
Unlike the people of the other car
And my car
My car had people who had uttered words that forever dented and scratched someone’s soul
Most of those words were towards me
And if not me, people around me
People, who I used my torn skin to stretch, and protect them with
I had even protected them from each other, in some cases
My car was filled with so much hate
Hate and ill will towards anyone
Of course I could assume the other car had hurt carried inside it, too
I knew them, after all
And, while it’s cruel, maybe the crash wasn’t too bad for them after all
I feel like I was on a road trip
Steered by my parents to result in failure
Which I was blamed for
Because I was naive enough,
as a child with adult responsibilities,
To listen to them and not force my boundaries
“I was on a road trip”
I reiterate to the hundredth person
“I was travelling, I fell asleep, we crashed.
“I understand that it was ridiculous of me to continue driving while tired but you have to understand-“
“We understand enough” they say
Their eyes glistened with hatred pointed at me
And sadness pointed within
“We’ll let you get some rest, which you obviously need, and we’ll continue tomorrow”
They treat me like a child
Obviously guilty for something silly
Except that silly thing
Ruined lives
And somehow
It’s my fault
For the failure of my guides

Dom Russell x vinnie?
Okay sooo uh, I know that you probably wanted some headcanons or something buttt... listen, that ask got me in the mood sooo 🫠
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sound of the front door being closed reverberated through the entirety of the small apartment. Vinnie threw his bag aside, sighed, and slid down the door dramatically with closed eyes. The only good thing about this day was the fact that it was Friday. Once he got to taking off his sneakers another person stepped into the hallway.
“Long day, huh?”
Vinnie’s facial expression brightened greatly and some of the tiredness disappeared. “Like every other Friday. Hi, Rusty.”
“Hello, Vincent.” Russell smirked gently. “Are you planning to get up any time soon or…?”
“I wouldn’t mind a little bit of help.”
Rolling his eyes good-naturedly, Russell stepped closer and reached out his hand, soon holding a paler one in and pulled hard on it, too hard.
“Woah!” A few attempts to balance himself later, Vinnie almost landed on the ground again. Almost, because Russell’s second hand wrapped around him, helping him keep his standing position. The green-haired man eyed both of the hands supporting him before managing a small grin, “Oops, sorry.”
“It’s okay, I have no problem holding you, even if it is because you couldn’t stand up properly.” Russell grinned back, his hands not moving from their place.
“Hey, you’re the one who pulled too hard!” Vinnie tried to hit that accusatory tone but it was hard not to let his eyes drift away from his boyfriend, especially when feeling that familiar warmth in his chest. He coughed, “You can let me go now, you know?”
“I’m aware, but I think that I shouldn’t. You’re tired, who knows what will happen once I let you go.”
“Well- woah.” Vinnie wasn’t able to finish as he was lifted slightly off the ground and they started moving. “Alright, alright, no more talking, I see.”
Several steps and one closed door later they arrived in front of their room’s humble but cozy enough couch. With learned skill, Russell sat and then lied down on his back, his boyfriend landing on top of him. For a while there was silence, disturbed only by the ticking of the wall clock and the sound of Vinnie wiggling his body into a more comfortable position. He let out a sigh of contentment, feeling a repetitive stroking motion on his back.
“It should be illegal to have college classes until such late hours.” He murmured.
“I agree, but at least it’s not that often and on Fridays. So right after we have a whole weekend for ourselves.”
“That’s what I like to hear. Wait, aren’t you going to study?” Vinnie raised his brow, now looking up at the other who shook his head.
“Fortunately there’s nothing that I need to study for at the moment. I suppose I could try to get ahead if I wanted to but I’d rather spend my time with you.” He planted a soft kiss on the freckled cheek while his legs wrapped quite tightly around Vinnie’s, a non-verbal way to convey “You’re not going anywhere for now,” – a message that made pleasurable shivers run down Vinnie’s spine as he half-heartedly attempted to release his lower limbs.
“You know, you’re lucky that I don’t want to free myself anyway, otherwise I totally could.” He claimed jokingly.
“Oh yeah?” Russell inquired in a similar tone but didn’t give the other time to reply. Before Vinnie could react, their positions changed, with him now on his back, Russell pinning him down gently but firmly and his hands pressing into his shoulders.
“Damn, either you’re getting stronger or I’m getting weaker.” Vinnie murmured dreamily as he lied there with messy hair and flushed cheeks.
“I think it’s actually mostly up to the element of surprise. But hey, I’m not complaining.” Russell’s head lowered and their lips finally met. His fingers tangled themselves in his boyfriend’s hair who gently digged his fingers against his lover’s shoulder blades. Speaking of whom, at one point he changed his destination, his lips wandering lower to Vinnie’s neck, sometimes going for his collarbone only to return higher after. Soft noises were escaping them both as time lost its meaning for a blissful while, minutes turning into moments.
That was until third presence walked into the room.
“Do you two think you can cut it short today?”
A purple and green pairs of eyes quickly redirected their gaze to the newcomer, but their owners’ positions hardly changed. Russell merely sat up straighter to give Vinnie some space to talk.
“Hi, Sunil.” Vinnie greeted sheepishly and gave a small wave.
“Hello.” Their pyjama-clad friend waved back and shook his head genially. “I see you’re both in a good mood, but seriously, I need to be able to fall asleep now.”
“Fall asleep…?” His best friend asked while simultaneously trying to get his hair back to their regular, not messy look, “It’s only 9 pm though- Russell!” He was cut off as Russell nuzzled against his neck, making Vinnie jump at the sensation.
“Sorry not sorry.” His boyfriend shrugged but stopped his advances making Sunil shake his head again.
“I’m aware, but I need to get up at 5 am tomorrow and, you know, I’m not exactly a heavy-sleeper.”
Russell and Vinnie exchanged glances and nodded.
“Alright, we’ll be quiet.” The former assured while Vinnie let out an over exaggerated whine making Russell glance at him, “We have a whole weekend after all,” and Vinnie’s expression immediately made a 180-degree change.
“Thanks, guys.” Sunil nodded at them and left the room, closing the door behind him.
After a moment of silence Vinnie asked, “Sooo, should we go to sleep too?”
“Sunil only said that we need to be quiet, not silent.” Russell replied thoughtfully. “Besides, we both know you won’t fall asleep at this hour.” Vinnie smiled unevenly at that. “And I’m not sleepy either. I say we turn the lights off and watch something. While wearing headphones of course. You can even sit on my lap if you want to, sounds good?”
“Perfect.”

I know I said I won't be writing fanfics but the urge was just too great, I still had to hype myself up for like a week. Also, it was supposed to be 500 words but it has almost twice as many. Whatever it is I did it now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How It Went.... (Part 1)
//Just a heads up, this chapter contains mentions of physical abuse. I'm saying right now as a warning, so please be advised when reading this.
It's late…nearly 1 in the morning.
Her parents are long since asleep, while Mari and Sunny sit in the living room with suitcases. They're amazed they even got away with it.
The boy was holding onto Mari like a lifeline, shaking as the girl tried to quietly calm him down and reassure him that they would soon be safe.
It's not long before the front door swung open, revealing a tired, yet relieved, Erika. Finally, she had a chance to get her siblings away from this nightmare.
She quietly helped the two put their suitcases in an SUV, before locking the front door and helping Mari and Sunny get buckled in and comfortable.
After that, she drove off with them, not looking back.
….
….
It's only after they get to their destination, the neighboring city, that Erika allowed herself to think about the events leading up to this….
Despite the now-19-year-old Erika's best efforts, things began taking a turn for the worst after Mari's 16th birthday.
It was clear that Mari and Sunny were beginning to suffer from emotional and physical trauma brought upon them by one of their parents. Given how her father was, the oldest of the siblings assumed it was him.
It was around Sunny's 13th birthday that it soon became obvious.
The boy was in pain, so Erika suggested to let her examine him for potential injuries. Once in the bathroom, Erika washed her hands, before checking Sunny's arms.
She spotted significant bruising around his wrist and bicep, which encouraged the boy just enough to lift his shirt and reveal several bruises around her abdomen and ribs.
He didn't need to look at Erika to know she was furious.
"Father…is getting upset." Sunny spoke hesitantly. "He's angry…that I'm only getting Bs in school. He's angry…that Mari and I won't do recital again."
The albino teenager gritted her teeth, her anger boiling inside her.
"Mari's trying to keep it from occurring…or lasting long." The boy added. "She's getting hurt too…."
"How long has this been going on for?" Erika immediately asked. The boy lowered his head, "A few months at most…."
Erika silently attempted to do some patchwork on the injuries, though she was no doctor. Despite that, she needed to treat Sunny immediately as best she could.
She'd check on Mari's injuries after Sunny's asleep. It's the weekend, so Mari would be awake a little longer.
"Tell Mari that you two need to start packing your things as soon as possible." She said. "Keep them hidden until I can convince my mentor that he and his family with take us in until you two graduate."
Sunny gave a sharp nod and immediately hugged Erika tightly. They're going to be free.
They're going to be safe soon.
Just as she planned, Erika managed to check on Mari since she was already struggling to sleep. Just as Sunny said, the injuries Mari had were in response to her trying to keep Sunny safe.
"He was hurting Sunny...! What was I supposed to do...!?" Mari asked rhetorically. "Our parents are trying to mold into something we are, damn it...!"
"I know. I know...and I'm so sorry it's been happening this long." Erika whispered, before hugging her. "I'm so proud of you protecting our baby brother. And I AM going to get you two out of here."
As Erika continued treating her sister's injuries, the younger girl asked in a shaky tone, tearing threatening to slip over, "Are we...really going to be safe...?"
The albino teen gave a firm nod, hugging Mari as the latter cried on her shoulder, "If people have a problem with us being safe from our parents...they will have to go through me first."
It took Mari and Sunny another week to actually pack. It was like their parents knew something was going on and tried to figure out what it was.
They likely did know what Erika was planning, but Sunny and Mari made their packing slow and unnoticeable, which meant that they eventually gave up on thinking that the kids were running anytime soon.
But Mari and Sunny knew that they were finally going to be safe from this nightmare.
….
Erika sighed, rubbing her eyes as she helped her siblings get out of the car and into the home of her mentor. Instead of any introductions, the trio of siblings were instead brought to the living room, with Erika's mentor suggesting that they get some rest.
Begrudgingly, Erika abided to her mentor's wise words, immediately crashing on the couch's built-in mattress and falling asleep. Sunny immediately followed suite, curling up against his oldest sister.
As Mari joined them, she cautiously turned to Erika's mentor, asking, "Are we really going to be safe?"
The older gentleman gave a kind smile, "Your sister has been nothing more than a daughter and sister to us." "This is the least we can do to show our appreciation and love for her." He explained.
"So yes. You three ARE going to be safe." He whispered, wiping Mari's tears as she began to cry in relief.
She's so very tired….
She and her siblings are safe….
They're going to be happy again….
