I’m not entirely sure why, but I really adore how Gou offers one of his pokeballs for Koharu to use when told it’s ok for her to become a trainer of this special Eevee girl

Like, at the start of the episode Gou becomes fully aware of Koharu’s past incident with the class about feeling pressured to catch a Pokémon due to being daughter of a Professor when he himself asked her that, and he also then showed that he felt like he did step on the line. Ofc, Koharu didn’t mind it, but I’m glad neither reacted badly to Gou’s question or Koharu’s answer.

But now that Gou knew that Koharu had bonded with this Eevee, he seemed like he should support Koharu in her first step at becoming a trainer. They HAVE been friends for longest time, and I bet it felt really great to see Koharu find a Pokémon that clicked so well with Koharu.

The way Gou tells that Eevee says she’s ready for the pokeball, and Koharu then takes the pokeball. It’s such a nice gesture from Gou and I loved seeing this between the two. This episode truly emphasized on how close friends the two are and I totally look forward to seeing how their friendship goes forward now that both are trainers!

Why do some vermilionshipping fans hate satogou? Sorry for

I have seen no such stereotype kind of ship hate myself so I'm the wrong person to ask about that.

As for why I'm not particularily a fan of the dynamic the show has gone for with Satoshi and Gou:

I find it boring.

Sorry I just don't really like the kind of dynamic they're going for with them, and I'm talking about the "Gou is the smart kid"/"Satoshi is the dumb kid" dynamic. I'm just not a fan.

Koharu and Gou's dynamic is more interesting to me in that one is smart in Pokemon related stuff and one is smart in life related stuff, and neither is dumb at anything, just less knowledged. They complement each other's weaknesses in what they don't know as well. Also, I just love childhood friend dynamics.

Today's episode was narratively pretty good, I still need subtitles to understand most of the dialogue as it was sorta advanced theme-wise for me, but I feel like I understood the gist of the episode.

And I got overly excited on getting a flashback to Gou's childhood at school where he was seemingly always alone and it SEEMED to hint at how Gou and Koharu became friends because Koharu was in the flashback hearing the convo between Gou and Teacher sajkgsjfh. My priorities are weird lol. But it is what I wanted to learn.

Those who like Gou probably will love this episode as it did do good on him, thou I am a bit irked by HOW Messon evolved, no one saw it happen, just us viewers and it was only because Messon watergunned a berry out of Oddish' way. When was the last time Pokeani ever did that kind of un-seen evolution?

I thought about doing some simple graphic for a possible reminder post about the change of time slot for Pokeani... but screw that!

Let’s talk about Koharu! Especially about how she shows development in JN038!

So the episode premise is around how the boys learn about the Nibi City/Pewter City having a showcase of the largest Tatetops in the world and wanting to see it. While they’re hyping about it, Koharu apparently has to do some research project for a School class. And since the boys just got excited about the Fossil Excavation, Sakuragi suggest going with the boys.

Clearly she’s not thrilled with the idea, but the boys are soo... cue the dragging scene lol. Honestly, this dynamic is fun, because it shows that, while boys are very excited about whatever comes their way, Koharu is way more calm and collective, and doesn’t go hyping about simple fossils. It helps balance out the dynamics in my opinion, and makes all three more interesting to me!

Seriously, it’s like she didn’t have a say in this, and the boys decided it for her. Bet she felt a bit frustrated, but she eventually goes along.

But I’m not here to narrate the whole episode. I’m here to talk about how Koharu’s dragged into this Excavation out of a whim, but comes out with a seemingly new love towards ancient story filled rocks.

Like, the first scene we see of her at the Museum is where she sees Kabutops for the first time, and her reaction is a mild shock! While the boys are incredibly over the top with their hype levels lol

She looks so out of the group here, like she’s not IN it just yet. Thou, she does then point the group to the Excavation Site itself, and that’s where she starts showing some real nice signs I love to see.

Like, when the Curator starts explaining that the rock Satoshi is holding is a fossil of a Pokémon’s footprint, Koharu looks seemingly impressed. She was the one to doubt if it is a fossil, so no wonder she then gets curious about it. But here’s my favourite part.

After the Curator shows them a fossil and asks them what it is, Koharu’s the one to identifiy it as a claw. Then Curator starts explaining the Claw Fossil to be from Anopth, and narrates about the Pokémon’s ability to use the claw efficiently etc. Truly enchanting!

Now notice this! Koharu has different expression from the boys! And you know what that expression is? Curiousity! The boys are all “wow“ here, while Koharu oozes the kind of face where she’s heard something truly interesting.

AND THEN, after the Curator has explained about the fossils in detail, about how they’re able to tell history of Pokémon from the past, the same scene has a difference!

SHE IS VISIBLY BLUSHING!!!

It’s at this point on that Koharu is now fully invested in this research project idea, and goes with it. She shows no regrets, no out-of-place feels, but genuine interest. And she actually does end up finding some fossil!

This is also possibly the first time Koharu is seen with Satoshi without any akwardness. The talks between the two are very friend-like, kind, and real sweet to see. Satoshi helps Koharu bring the fossil to the Curator as well.

Considering how Koharu’s first interactions with Satoshi were extreme akwardness, this is a nice change of pace. It shows that Koharu accepts Satoshi now. She’s also really curious to see if the fossil she found is a new discovery, as Satoshi wasn’t able to tell if it was Shellder or not.

Turns out it wasn’t, but proved to be good for Koharu’s Research Project, as she now has enough material to write it. She’s a really good school girl huh. Also, another casual talk between the two here, and also showcases how the friendship of Gou and Koharu is deep friendship that is accompanied with frustration. Like, the time’s up, and when Koharu tries telling Gou that it’s time to go, Gou instead runs towards a shiny object. I understand Koharu’s frustration, she’s dealth with him since early childhood. We know this from JN001!

Flashfoward to Gou’s discovery of the Secret Ambe (Old Amber in localizations), Koharu is definitely interested in seeing how the fossil restoration machine works, in the same way the boys are.

Another flashfoward, I think the scene with Gou, Koharu, Goloog and Ptera is another important scene for her.

Like, she came looking for Gou after the Ptera was restored from a pre-emptive fossil birth that Rocket Gang caused, and after she and Satoshi found out about Rockets. She came to look for Gou for help with Rockets, but instead she now witnesses her first time seeing her life-long friend befriend a wild, seemingly extremely dangerous Pokémon. She’s even worried for Goloog.

Also Gou is so protective of Koharu, Satoshi was protective of her before as well, gosh these boys are so caring of their friend ♥

After Ptera is down, Gou goes closer to it, only for Ptera to screech at him. This scares Koharu, telling Gou it’s too dangerous. But of course, Gou doesn’t listen, instead shows his understanding for Ptera, and how it’s scared of the unknown world. Beautiful scene, but not the point of this post!

This is the scene shown right after Ptera has calmed down from Gou’s talk to it, touching it gently with its hand. Koharu is impressed! Up til this point, she had never seen how Gou bonds with his Pokémon. She now knows what it’s like to build a bond with wild Pokémon, and how amazing Gou can be with them. Why Gou seemingly loves Pokémon.

She’s still in awe in this scene, but then!

She smiles while blushing! Truly a precious sight. I bet she felt extreme happiness in seeing this scene, and I am telling you, next time we have Koharu episode, she’s finally getting ready to step into the world of Pokémon Trainers.

She admits in enjoying the trip a ton! That is so awesome for her character, as it shows how much her love for Pokémon is growing back. And you know what? She showed a lot of interest in fossils and the history of Pokémon specifically, so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she chooses to go down the path of a Professor researching Pokémon History. A bit different path to her dad, who studies the bonds. She’s very much impressed with her dad’s work nowdays, finding him cool, and now she’s done her own research project regarding fossils. I bet her documentation is filled with love! Also would make me want her to meet Shigeru.

I alos just really love how this scene seems to show Gou talking to Koharu about the trip and just, look how Koharu is smiling at his way. Ah, these two are so great I swear.

Since she’s now confirmed to be getting an Eevee as well, I actually find it fitting, as Eevee is THE evolution Pokémon. The perfect Pokémon a researcher could love to have, as it is a very intriquing Pokémon with so many paths of evolution. How did it come to be blessed with such diversity, etc etc etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if their bonding has to do with Koharu being interested in it a species as well. But, ofc, I think their main bonding theme will be through some sort of meeting. Maybe Gou gets an Eevee of his own beforehand, who knows. I look forward to finding out!

But yeh. I think that’s all I wanted to say about her for now. Really enjoyed her focus on this episode, and am truly, TRULY excited to see her next focus episode, and how it will unfold! Until next time, take care guys!

Also I finally understood the line Gou says to Koharu.

“I thought you weren’t interested in Pokémon“, and I love what tone he uses lolol (especially the Kooohaaaru~). It’s the kind of tune you use to tease a friend who’s suddenly showing signs of their opposite trait. In this case, Koharu seemingly interested in Pokémon. Which she’s said to not be.

To which, Koharu says: “Shut up“. lol (And blushes out of embarrasment)

Y’know, I was just saying on twitter last week how I love Gou and Koharu’s dynamic and wished to see more of it, and this episode just happens to deliver on it??? What are the odds.

Subs are out, which I’ll watch tomorrow, so I guess there’s no more point in trying to figure out the dialogue. But like, my GoSpringshipper heart was happy with the scenes that happened between Koharu and Gou. There were also nice Bloomboltship moments (Satoshi and Koharu). (Reminder, I am neutral shipper, and mainly appreciate the character dynamics when I ship something, nothing more!)

Looking forward to understanding the episode to full degree tomorrow!

Koharu is definitely getting closer to becoming a trainer! She had LOOTS of fun today at the fossil excavation event. Oh, and her hair style was broke because she woke up at the middle of the night to Ptera being born and breaking out of the fossil thingie. She looks so good with her hair open thou fjhsfghsf. Loved her outfit.

She also showed way more friendly towards Satoshi, accepting his help with carrying a fossil and just, way more friendly. She’s warmed up to him :)

Also the way she’s impressed with Gou and his bonding with Ptera really screams that she’s enjoying what she’s seeing. She also seemed real interested in fossils in general, blushing about when the Curator talked about the excitements in fossils. I’m telling you, Koharu could dream to be a professor, maybe in fossil field! Have her meet Shigeru then

Also the boys were really protective of Koharu, which is acceptable considering she’s not a trainer yet, meaning no way to fight against wild ‘mon or Rocket Gang.

Next week is Saito vs Satoshi rematch, and he’s using Pikachu and Riolu? Pikachu against Otosupus, intriquing... Also I don’t think Riolu is evolving next week but he was doing the Aura Sphere pose with Vacuum Wave? Thou it could be like Rabbifoot’s ember and just referencing the evolution. REALLY hoping he doesn’t evolve to win the match, I don’t really like those kind of win situations as it kinda feels like cheating :’D

Anyway. Those are my thoughts for today!

Nice to see a moment where Koharu was teased by her friend for once, and they did it so well! Also, The three way glare. If Satoshi looks at you that way, watch your step XD

jhgfhjsfg I loved that glare so much! Gou’s analysive nature was showing too much at that point, so the three were right to glare at him sajfhgsjhfg.

And yeh. I love that even Gou is able to tease Koharu and it’s not just Koharu who’s not afraid to have her say on Gou. That’s beautiful of their friendship! Clearly shows they’ve known each other for so, so long!

GoSpringShipping.

A reference to Go and Koharu’s name references in both sub and dub! :) (Koharu’s haru meaning spring and Chloe refering to blooming/fertility green foliage or shoots of plants in spring)

Any thoughts? Pretty sure Gouharu ship has been lacking a name still :o

As long as their dynamic is written well and interestingly, I don't mind them being either friends or romantic partners.

It's up to the writers how they want it to be.

I personally don't care, as long as I enjoy the dynamic, I'm good with anything. As long as it doesn't ruin or change the dynamic ;D

I admit, I don't think I've ever met nor encountered anyone, literally anyone in the online shipping community, to perceive shipping mainly focusing on strong dynamics/platonic ships much more than romance until now, that is.

Even as someone who wants and is craving for more friendship/platonic dynamics to be more recognized in all fandoms, I still can't help but feel baffled when I actually meet someone who doesn't see the word "shipping = romance". Maybe it's because of that mindset, I eventually got so used to the word "shipping" automatically meaning romance, so I keep ending up feeling surprised even though I probably shouldn't when I actually meet a shipper who ship pairings for completely different reasons that isn't anything related to romance, despite me being also a sorta platonic shipper myself.

For example, I don't like GoSpringshipping (as a couple) for reasons, and so far the only opinions I've gathered from those shippers often has something to do with Goh's popular ship. But to hear an entirely different perspective as to why you ship them left me impressed, because at least now I finally get an idea that not all GoSpringshippers think the same way the rest do (and sure enough, you deserve respect for it!). But I do have to agree that they need a bit more screen time together, I definitely see their friendship as something worth to note more in the long run!

To summarize what I'm trying to say, it's nice to meet a shipper who isn't focused on romance as much as everyone else does. And I do believe platonic ships are ALWAYS overlooked by the shipping community without painting it as "oh, they're secretly romantically involved together", so I guess it would make sense that many people would find it hard to believe when they meet an actual platonic-focused shipper.

I apologize in advance if I ended up misinterpreting anything I said (or everything I said lol). I did my best to make this ask as properly executed as possible, since meeting platonic-focused shippers are incredibly rare.

Yeh I find platonic ships SEVERELY underappreciated, and most of the time I end up liking a ship because of their current dynamic showcased, because I tend to stick to canon. Only headcanons I do are the kind that can fit well with canon material and don’t have a chance at being retconned.

But yeh. GoSpringshipping is a wonderful dynamic that I greatly adore and I’m glad you understand my reasons ;V;
