OOOH OK i love sharing general headcanons and stuff (keep in mind most of this is for the LEGO Monkie Kid verse not JTTW or FSYY verse)

Erlang Shen / Yang Jian:

Middle child syndrome is strong with this one

He's much older than most other gods and deities that have been presented to us thus far because of the fact he had a mortal father and an immortal mother. It isn't until he fully accepts his role as the God of Justice and Engineering that he gradually stops aging whatsoever (rip to him, forever having to deal with backpains)

A funny gag I have is that he and Su Daji used to hold hands but that is mostly due to the 2019 drama series of Investiture of the Gods. He misses his wife. He misses her a lot Wukong :(

He has a habit of coming across as closed off/serious when in fact his head is completely empty and he is thinking about when he can go home

Watched all of Heaven and the world almost collapse and went, "Well, that's not my problem," and went back to taking his nap with XIaotian Quan

Doesn't like meeting new people

Has a soft spot for his found family in Heaven (Sun Wukong, Nezha and his extended family from Wukong's side)

Wukong sometimes shrinks down to his younger self and clings to Erlang when he needs comfort

Erlang has a habit of worrying over Wukong far too much (he was an older brother before Wukong mind you)

Lost in Fairyworld is next and I’m so excited Dev is back!!!!!!

Two episodes in a row with no intro I’m dying. I need the intro dang it!!

I love Wanda’s chocolate obsession is shown in this show. Kind of hilarious watching everyone but Hazel devouring chocolate lolz. Ohhh I don’t love the talking gut is back nope I don’t. Hazels obsession with fries though is relatable. Wonder why Peri is also chilling with them. Maybe it’ll pull Dev in somehow?

Oh no Dev is here he’s just enchanted with Fairyworld. Cannot blame him one bit for that. I wonder why though they’re all over at Cosmo and Wanda’s this is clearly their first time hanging out since the museum since Wanda and Cosmo are taking pictures and stuff so what brought them together? I get it was yadda yadda past for times sake but I want to know! Peri I don’t think you need to be worried Dev is way to enthralled with Fairyworld to even notice what is happening. DEVS ON HIS TIPPY TOES DEV STOP BEING SO CUTE!!

I also cannot tell if Dev is meant to be crying from how amazing it is or if it’s just the window reflection.

Actually I think it’s years and that is genuinely so wholesome. Normalize boys crying when they have strong emotions it’s okay and normal and not weak or whatever.

Wait Dimmadone look? Thats a thing? Cute that Hazel seems to know Dev so well though. Sad that his dad has screwed him up so badly though. Like just thinking about it what kind of a father is Dale that it’s a family thing that’s known to be a thing for the whole family? Also kind of sad Hazel doesn’t even try to properly talk to Dev and assumes what he’s going to do.

How did Dev pop up beneath Peri? How did he do that lolz. I do feel bad for Peri here, he doesn’t even get to answer Dev before Cosmo and Wanda jump in for him. It is funny Dev is glaring at Wanda who is focused on Peri while Cosmo is just vibing happy to be there.

It’s such a family dynamic I kind of love it. Regardless good on Peri for trying to set boundaries with his parents. Lolz Peri just saying what his parents said.

I wonder if Cosmo and Wanda got flashbacks to Timmy when Dev made that wish lolz. I’m surprised there isn’t a rule in Da Rules about this though if they don’t want kids in Fairy World on the regular now. I love Devs unamused smile here though. I do also love that he seems to have ditched the sunglasses again.

I was just wondering why Peri and Dev have avoided any testing and it was on Jorgans list until Cosmo changed that I love it lolz. Jorgan are you really not going to question the run meaningless errands on your list? Really?

Wanda and Cosmo keep cutting off Peri, they need to let Peri be a godparent because them jumping in will just undermine Peri. Course Peri could use more parenting techniques cuz what Dev desperately needs is a parental figure in his life.

Oh no the sunglasses are back on when Dev decides to do a bad thing. Wait did the fairies really turn their back on the kids who want to break rules? Did they really do that? HAZEL WHY ARE YOU HELPING AND NOT SAYING ANYTHING? Dev are you really not worried about the talking gut really? Hazel you really are going along with this?

Oh my gosh Dev and Hazel goofing off and playing and having fun is so cute I genuinely love it. I did notice another weird thing? So Dev has his glasses on but after he’s unfrozen the glasses kind of awkwardly vanish from his face. Was it supposed to be the wand that unfroze him poofed them away? It’s not super clear and kind of awkward and I watched it a few times to try and figure out what happened and am still confused.

Wait trackers on wands? Why? How does that even work? Wanda don’t announce that he will come back haven’t you learned from the last time? Lolz Jorgan announcing he’s back. I have a feeling he doesn’t see them though.

I do love how they just poofed away and Jorgan is not following up on this at all even remotely. Good on Cosmo and Wanda for admitting they overstepped and also good on Peri for also admitting he failed. They are the adults here, these are kids in a magical realm you got distracted and lost them.

Everyone looks to Dev who doesn’t take any responsibility and…puts on the glasses again. No trying to teach him or talk to him just. Ends on a “funny” moment.

Great episode really had fun but I just wish we saw any effort from Peri to try and talk with Dev and like parent him cuz clearly Dale has not parented this kid in any capacity and if he’s never been parented or taught about responsibility he’s not going to just magically get it overnight. It takes time and patience and the show just doesn’t seem to be bothered to try with him writing him off instead.

I know it’s supposed to be “funny” but the joke doesn’t land when I know what this is building to and instead of even trying to engage with Dev in any meaningful way he’s being discarded again. Peri is so focused on being a “good” godparent he can’t see what Dev needs is a parental figure to help guide him and help him mature and well as I’ve discussed before the other adults in his life have given up on him despite being a literal 9 year old it’s painful to watch. He hasn’t even hit double digits yet but he’s already been tossed aside.

I almost went on another rant but I need to save that for my part 2 Dev analysis and focus on getting through the season lolz. Onto the next one!!

At least… at present. Hypothetically I'd be interested in trying to find a way to commune with souls in Hades at some point, but it's far from my biggest priority. And even if I do eventually find a way to talk with those spirits, things could still get… complicated? You see, souls aren't guaranteed to even stay in Hades forever. If someone's come to terms with their life, then they can 'move on' entirely, dissipating into pure matter, returning to Void, then reincarnating. And once that happens, the 'them' you knew is really gone. It's. Uh. Kind of scary. I try not to think about it too much. And this is all just how it works in my world— it might be completely different for you. So why don't we talk about something else? I feel like my explanation of what exactly enables someone to remain tethered to this plane may have left a few people scratching their heads. After all, I stated that doing so requires a soul brimming with magical energy, which… isn't exactly a term most people would use to describe my granddad. Miss Sectonia, sure. She was— and is— an amazing magician! But Granddad? He doesn't have any magic. In that regard, he's a bit of an anomaly. The 'magical energy' radiating from his spirit isn't necessarily his. Or at least… it wasn't originally. You see, overuse of Star Dream caused a lot of Dream matter to seep into his soul. That's where that energy comes from. …Glad to know at least one good thing happened thanks to the stupid piece of scrap metal. Sometimes I have to wonder if that means he could cast magic now. I mean… Miss Sectonia still can through Dad and I. So why would he be any different? In theory, his cybernetics would mess with his ability to do so, but I don't think they're… real, anymore? I mean, they're not physical. All he is now is his spirit, and his spirit just happens to resemble the way he looked at the end of his life. I dunno. It's just an interesting thing to contemplate. Could be fun to try sometime… seeing if I could teach him. If I succeeded, then I would have two ghosts who could strike down my enemies! Y'know, as opposed to one ghost who can strike down my enemies and another ghost who just kind of stands there and watches. Hehehe… sorry Granddad! Yayyyy! More weird worldbuilding. I've had to think a lot about how I interpret cycle of life and death in the Kirbyverse thanks to Peony and my fixation on the Kirby series' dead characters as a whole. Fun stuff!

I would like to portray her meeting more dead people eventually. I mean, even outside of the context of this tournament. Floralia is filled with powerful magic users. She's definitely encountered people other than just her Granddad and 'guardian angel.' That could be something interesting to explore. I just haven't sat down and mulled it over as much as I'd like to yet.

Puen carrying Talay into the van, showing the note where he wrote "let's go head over heels for each other", the pan up into the sky, the theme song playing one last time! I remember I had to sit there and soak in the moment the first time around.

Final Thoughts:

This show means so much to me!! I love the story so much!! I love PuenTalay so much!! I love Jimmy and Sea so much!! It’s just a wonderful story about love and it’s just the intensity of how much these two love each other and how hard they worked to be together that gets to me!! Jimmy and Sea played these characters beautifully and you can see the love on their faces!! I loved watching them every week!!

This rewatch almost took me all year to do and I only got it done because of the rerun giving me 'real' deadlines 😅 I’m so sorry I couldn’t get to it earlier but I’m so happy I did it! I almost never rewatch whole shows, I just go back to certain scenes I liked. But this show is top tier to me and I’m so glad I got to relive all these emotions again!!

Season One of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is FINE

All and all, I'd say it's a fine adaptation of the first book.

The spirit is very much in place. The story's sense of humor and light drama is present and well balanced through the show. One moment you have a gripping discussion of Sally explaining she fell in love with a god, and it's followed by Percy asking if she found Jesus. It's a funny line that doesn't undercut the drama because that's exactly what a kid like Percy would ask. Even some bits that WEREN'T in the book that very well could have been, like Mr. D lying to Percy about being his father for some cheap booze or the gosh dang Consensus Song. Moments like that show me that the people behind this show are HUGE FANS of the books and wanted to make something that's faithful but still provides something new to enjoy.

And there are SOME changes to the story, a lot of them I don't really mind. I like that they made Sally more sassy and Grover more proactive. I like that Medusa's made more as a tragic villain instead of a monstrous one. I REALLY like that we got to see Poseidon early. That last one takes the punch out of the dramatic weight of seeing him in Book Four, but seeing him now really helps cement the idea that this version DOES love Percy and Sally, something that I didn't really get in the books. Which might have been the intention, but the show is trying to be something different, and I respect it for it.

When it comes to the action, it's pretty good. Stuff like the Minotaur fight and the battle with Ares wasn't as long or epic as it was mapped out in my head, but I can understand it. These are big fights involving little kids and CGI is expensive (Even though you wouldn't have this problem if the show was ANIMATED, but I digress). Despite the limitations, the show did will and provided some kickass moments.

As for the actors, frickin' round of applause across the board. Nearly everyone they got does GREAT in their role, fitting the changes the show is going for and the spirit of the book everything is based on. Some particular standouts for me are Adam Copeland as the perfect D-Bag that is Ares and Walter Scobell who IS Percy Jackson. It's the kid especially that impressed me the most, as he nails the sarcastic, angry, endearing, idiotic, and loyal to a fault hero that makes Percy the best. If there's any actor who I think is struggling it's probably Leah Jeffries as Annabeth, who seems a bit too standoffish and closed off, as if she's holding back a lot of personality that the character has. However, to be fair...

A. Annabeth was more or less the same in the first book, so I'll allow it. Just as long as she has more of a wit to match Percy's. It's what made Percabeth amazing.

B. This is a child actor we're talking about. Even Walter, who is PITCH PERFECT casting, manages to have some awkwardness and stiffness to his performance at times too. I'm sure that as more time goes on, these kids will get better and better each season.

And, yeah, I'd say that this is enough to make Percy Jackson and the Olympians a FINE TV show...But there's some things that hold it back from being good or even GREAT.

Firstly, there's the pacing. The pacing in this show is off a lot of the time, and this is mainly a problem with most straight to streaming shows nowadays. We can have long, extensive TV shows anymore as networks and services are demanding shorter and shorter seasons, to the point where its less of a season of television and more of a long movie. It's no different here as we're forced to fly by past plot point after plot point, all while trying to be more episodic AND while setting up future stuff. It makes you appreciate the moments when the show DOES slow down and let moments settle, but there's not enough of that.

Then there's the way moments are told out of order or are condensed. Like how Percy and Annabeth have their heart-to-heart on the train instead of on the animal truck. Or how Annabeth starts calling Percy Seaweed Brain when the journey's almost over instead of doing it right away. Or how Luke sparred with Percy near the END of the season, not the beginning. I'm not exactly an accuracy purist. I find changes are fine as long as the spirit is in tact, which it very much is. And if I wanted the story told exactly as it was, I would have just read the book. But changes like that make me feel like they're missing the point. Like, that zoo truck wasn't great, but it will be a happy memory between Percy and Annabeth as a time when they REALLY talked. Annabeth calling Percy Seaweed Brain was a straight up insult that Percy hated but grew to accept as something only SHE can call him as it later turns into a sort of petname for him. And interrupting Percy's battle with Ares with Percy sparring with Luke spoonfeeds us information, when showing them do that in the beginning would have benefited in making that scene act as a set up with a pay off. Besides, we spend so little time with Luke anyway that when we get to that BIG REVEAL, it's not as impactful because he was barely a character. Again, I don't mind changes, but if you're going to do them, make sure the story doesn't suffer.

But while we're on the topic of changes, let's talk about the ones that REALLY bother me.

I don't like that some other gods are introduced too early. It takes the impact out of Ares and Hades being big, intimidating figures when there are other gods that the characters can just chat and reason with.

I don't like that Annabeth's fear of spiders is just glossed over. Not only does it SHOW US (instead of telling us) that a strong-willed character like Annabeth can be emotionally shaken by something as small as a spider, but leads to a sense of tragedy of her past and her being a child of Athena. To gloss over it is a huge disservice to Annabeth as a character and it doesn't feel right.

And I REALLY don't like that the movie did the Lotus Casino better than the show. Because if the movie that the author loves to shit on managed to be more faithful than the SHOW...it messed up.

So...the show is a mess at times. I still enjoyed it and I hope we get a season two. But if this series wants to get past The Sea of Monsters, it'll need to focus on what makes it GREAT instead of using more of what holds it back as just FINE.

Super Titles Round-Up (May 1994)

This month: Superboy gets animated! Supergirl gets even! Steel gets that cool-ass Jon Bogdanove cover up there!

Superboy #4 (May 1994)

Superboy is pretty sick due to that pesky Clone Plague running through the Superman titles, so his friends try to cheer him up by showing him the pilot episode for Superboy: The Animated Series. The episode is about two villains called Lock 'n' Lode trying to kill Superboy's manager, Rex Leech, depicted as a handsome "philanthropist and adventurer" in the show (because he's the one who paid for it). Meanwhile, Dubbilex appears as Rex's "wacky telepathic D.N.Alien butler" and Roxy Leech as an "undulating mass of primordial slime," which neither of them appreciates.

The animated scenes are drawn by late Batman Adventures artist Mike Parobeck in that classic broad-chinned Bruce Timm style, so this issue serves as kind of a preview for the other animated-style DCU titles that would come later in the decade (I always thought it was funny that Superboy got an "animated" design before Superman himself did). Anyway, in the show, Lock 'n' Load are defeated thanks to Rex's cleverness, mastery of geometry, and flawless marksmanship, though Superboy helps too. We even get a happy ending for Roxy, as an accident in the "Super-Grotto" causes her to evolve into fungus.

Unfortunately, things are less cheerful in the real world, since the issue ends with Superboy collapsing in the kitchen and his friend Tana remarking that he's not breathing. TO BE CONTINUED!

Supergirl #4 (May 1994)

Final issue! After finding out that Lex Luthor Jr. has been playing her for a gosh-danged fool all these years, the all-new, all-edgy Supergirl goes around the world torching Lex's properties (after making sure all employees have evacuated them, because she's still a sweetheart deep down). Lex figures out what Supergirl is doing and sets an explosive trap in one of his properties that leaves her as a pool of protoplasmic goo on the ground.

But Supergirl was only playing dead, so she uses the fact that Lex thinks he killed her to surprise him at LexCorp Tower. However, once she reaches Lex's office, Supergirl finds out that the red-haired adonis she was expecting to see has been replaced with a frail bald guy in a floating wheelchair. The shock of seeing Lex like that makes Supergirl drop her guard for a moment, which is enough for him to try to kill her again. Lex crawls into his Team Luthor armor for protection, but an even-more-pissed-off Supergirl tears him out and actually throws him through a window to a certain death.

For better or worse, Superman shows up just in time to save Lex, even though he looks like he might drop dead any second anyway. Supergirl is shocked to learn that Lex wasn't lying about his sickness, especially because she would have gladly helped him if he'd just asked her instead of sneakily cloning her to try to make a cure. Supergirl morphs back into her old self as she flies away in tears.

In the epilogue, the Kents let Supergirl know she's very welcome to come live with them again, but she decides she wants to travel the world and grow as a person/sentient lump of protomatter. The miniseries ends a few months later, with Supergirl going to Paris to reunite with Lex's ex-wife Elizabeth Perske, who agrees to be her new mentor. Perske will appear in a few issues of Supergirl's solo series, but the more interesting part in this flash-forward is the mention that U.S. Congress has "passed a measure approving aid for strife-torn Metropolis." Look out for some strife in the main Superman comics, coming soon!

Steel #4 (May 1994)

Steel's evil former employers at Amertek want to get back at him for destroying their headquarters last issue, so they hit him at a place where they know he'll be: at the funeral for a kid who died during a gang fight due to their weapons. Did I mention they're evil? They send a shirtless dude hopped up on Tar, the drug that turns people into Rob Liefeld characters, to crash the funeral, and since John Henry doesn't have his armor on, he has to hit the attacker with church pews until the drug runs out. (Would have been cool if he'd built himself a new armor out of church pews on the spot.)

The attack intensifies the gang war going on in the tough streets of D.C., resulting in another little kid getting shot (an adorable boy named Paco who wanted to be a gang member when he grew up). Then, the issue ends with John's niece Natasha getting ran over by a gang member's car as she's going to the hospital to see Paco. I have a feeling this comic is trying to tell us something about gangs, but I'm not sure what it is.

Oh, yeah, this issue also features a cameo by Lois Lane: John calls her (at home, since she was just fired by the Daily Planet) to figure out what he can do with the CD full of incriminating evidence he got from Amertek's HQ. She hooks him with her college roommate, policewoman/hacker Shauna Beryl (the lady on the cover up there), who will become a recurring character in this comic.

The Ray #1 (May 1994)

In the first issue of his solo series, Ray "The Ray" Terrill takes a trip to Hawaii on the same day that a little troll creature prays to Darkseid next to a volcano, causing a giant lava monster called Brimstone to emerge (Darkseid created a previous incarnation of Brimstone during the Legends crossover). Superboy shows up to help fight Brimstone, but instead of working together, Ray spends most of the issue thinking about how much he hates this kid and calling him a cheap poser. Eventually, after Brimstone has been "defeated," Superboy has enough and punches Ray to finally get him to shut up.

By the way, this issue and the next one are supposed to take place between Superboy #3 and #4, meaning that Superboy was already seriously ill while fighting Brimstone, so I don't blame him for losing his patience with this hater. Ray then hits Superboy back with a big blast of energy and looks mighty smug for a moment... until he notices that Superboy isn't moving or breathing. Yes, that's two comics in one month that end with someone yelling that Superboy is apparently dead. Oh, and then Brimstone wakes up. TO BE CONTINUED, TOO!

Damage #1 (April 1994)

I missed this issue during the April '94 round-up (shout out to Neil in the comments for alerting me of its existence!), so here it goes. Our old pal Metallo is the main villain in the first issue of this series, which is about a wimpy kid called Grant Emerson who occasionally has bursts of explosive strength that allow him to total cars with his fists. Some mysterious villains broke Metallo out of Stryker's Island and gave him a new giant body just to send him to kill Grant at his school. The most interesting part for me is that this backstory is told in the same format as Metallo's backstory in John Byrne's Superman #1, with the green flashback panels at the end of every row.

Damage defeats Metallo, but also destroys his entire school in the process, and then other villains show up to capture him… but that has nothing to do with Superman, so it's none of our business.

MP100 Reaction

I just watched MP100 for the first time and wrote down my reactions to nearly every episode! I thought it'd be fun to share, even with them being small. I'm not fixing typos because I think it's funnier to show the full emotion I was feeling lol. This has to be my favorite anime of all time.

I unfortunately didn't write out for Season 1, but DID share some thoughts with friends:

I'm not finished watching, so please no spoilers, but DANG Mob Psycho 100 has to be one of the few shows I can NOT see the twists coming. /vpos (I'm on the final episode of season 1)

And I now see why Reigen's a fav. I didn't get it at first but now it's ASDFGHJKL

The way people talked about him, I went into the series expecting him to be a jerk or something. But it turns out he has a huge heart, kindness, and strong morals, while also being an odd mix of collected and confident or screaming and frantic.

Goes from being very expressive with his hands to -_-

Scam artist but "hey don't you dare hurt these kids I'm their guardian now and harming people is a low low idea"

and now he can see ghosts which is VERY fun

the end segment of the finale when he picked like, 2 tons (?) of mushrooms I was like "go autistic king"

they all autistic in different ways I can see it (mostly Mob and Reigen atm)

Now I binged liek 5 episodes when I was supposed to draw maaaaaaaaaan

SEASON 2

MP100 S2 E1 Reaction: I don't think I like Emi. Maybe there'll be a growth in future episodes, but DANG the "you don't have feelings" line gives me a very bad taste in my mouth. I did find it cool when Mob grabbed all the papers though. And Tsubomi watching from the sidelines is intriguing.

MP100 S2 E2 reaction: bad idea to watch that episode before bed last night, but luckily I didn't get nightmares lol

MP11 S2 E3 reaction: Dimple ace?? Reigen ace or ace adjacent?? Oh…the second half of this episode OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH I love Mob. I love Reigen. grarararrararara MY HEART Dimple's a little gremlin but his plan failed so it's better than fine

Episode 2 had me going "people said this season was better?" Second half of Episode 3 had me "UAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

MP100 S2, E4 reaction: Reigen is very observant. I found "Is he a chihuahua?" a little too funny. LITTLE GHOSTIE MOB IS SO CUTE?! I hope Mob gets out of this without fully changing who he is. Oh and Dimple protecting Shigeo's body is a W.

MP100 S2, E5 reaction: I giggled when Mob grew a flower on top of his head. And when he joked with Dimple with the little smile on my face, I verbally let out an "oh AWWW" and strtled my brother. The fight was cool, but Sheo with anime eyes is oddly enough unnerving XD "???%"???????????????? YOOOOOOO??? I love Mob so so much. Reigen feels iffy this episode, but I'm unsure if it's a front or not hmmm.

MP100 S2, E6 reaction: Yeah Reigen really messed up with Mob and I'm glad Mob is getting more confident and taking time to be a kid! And Dimple sticking with Mob is cool too. But DANG the scene with the emails and the computer as Reigen realized it was his birthday and he had no in-person friends? DANNNNNNNNG THAT HIT HARD. Both because it's close to home, and because the sound design and timing and layout of that scene was absolutely perfect and gut-wrenching.

MP100 S2, E7 reaction: OH I HAVE STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT THIS EPISODE OH MY GOSH????????? I didn't expect that ending and oh my gosh I'm stimming so much and I'm freaking CRYING. He's done it all because of Mob and Mob knew this WHOLE TIME. I knew he probably did, but saying he stuck around because he knew Reigen was "a good guy" OH MY GOOOOOOOOOSH MY HEART IS EXPLODING. They are friends, your honor. hey love and care for each other OUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH.

I'm crying so hard oh my gosh

I haven't happy cried from shock like THIS since the DBH ending.

I got so caught up in the ending I forgot to mention I find it funny how this is the first show I've watched to not only acknowledge the existence of memes, but to verbally mention it. I also found all the social media logo parodies to be fun!

OH AND the first season outro whiteboard marker style making a return and becoming made IN COLOR was so so impactful.

MP100 S2, E8 reaction: I was gonna say how much I appreciate how Mob has such a strong support group now. And then that freaking ending. The fire. The corpses. What the FRICK.

MP100 S2, E9 reaction: Thank goodness. I kept telling myself they weren't real bodies but the fact I spent so long putting off the next episode [3 days] tells you something lol. Also now he can pinpoint exact locations and fly so that's cool. They've made a huge mistake messing with Mob oopsie. Oh phew the parents are just at a spa. Still don't think "daddy issues" is a good excuse for burning a home and placing fake bodies. I also loved Reigen and Dimple this episode. Poor Mob is so tired and shouldn't have to deal with all this ;^;

MP100 S2, E10 reaction: BODY IMPROVEMENT CLUB W!! Also some fun Dimple scenes let's gooooooo.

MP100 S2, E11 reaction: Mob now has an intimidating presence in the best way. I also LOVED his speech about creating things on your own. Reigen's self-defense punch made me wheeze out-loud. And that last "Dimple, stay with him" from Reigen has a tone that- oof.

MP100 S2, E12 reaction: VERY good episode. I adore Shigeo. He can take and give powers now eugh. I'm sorry, in the middle of a very serious scene, the "You're annoying. Begone" took me EXTREMELY off guard and I guffawed. "No one should be able to put value on someone else's way of life." I LOVE THIS. Reigen being his usual very calm turn into very panicked, I love it. Shigeo's PISSED.

MP100 S2, E13 reaction: Shigeo staying with the boss oh my gosssssssh my heart. And he healed everyone with his blast? Awesome! The little "I think I just peed a little" made me wheeze. The giant broccoli has finally come into play . . . OH SERIZAWA IS THE THIRD GUY I KEEP SEEING IN FANART!

SEASON 3

MP100 S3, E1 and 2 reaction: I don't have much to say about these yet except "Mob smiles" make me very happy <3

MP100 S3, E7 reaction: Oh this is a fun one! I like Takenaka, and Mob smiles a lot in this episode. Plus, Reigen totallyyyyyyyy (/sar) not excited to drive a bunch of friends to see UFOs.

MP100 S3, E8 reaction: In general, this episode was super cute! I'm a sucker for friends just hanging out and doing weird things, especially this group. Inukawa being taken at the very end was funny at first, but the implications are ehhhhh and then he got kawaiified asdfghjkl.

MP100 S3, E9 reaction: In general, I loved this episode because I love when autistic-coded characters are able to unmask and Shigeo seems so happy! Of course, there was the ending…. I must have seen fanart or something, because as soon as I saw him at the crosswalk with flowers, I was filled with dread. The cat was saved and I was relieved, then immediately proven right. Guhhhhhhhhhhhh.

MP100 S3, E10 reaction: GUHHHHHHHHHHHH MOB DIED AND LEFT ONLY HIS POWERS BEHIND. This is gonna be an emotional doozy for sure. Teruki's battle with him and all Mob can do it watch. And the photo slowly sinking in for Reigen HURT.

A Long Time Ago In a Galaxy Far Far Away…

Civil war… Rebel spaceships…  striking from a hidden base… won their first  Victory… evil Galactic Empire… yada yada yada who cares

C3PO: (To R2) Did you hear that? They’ve shut down the main reactor. We’ll be destroyed for sure this is madness!

(Vader kills a bunch of guys and R2 gets some message. What's it for? I don’t know! He's very cryptic about it. Anyway he somehow knocks 3PO into an escape pod and the Kriffing Imperial Idiots scene no life in the pod so they don’t shoot it down. They land on a planet of sand… I hate sand… anyway who cares if they get captured by jawas or something. Either way they're not important so I’m not writing it!)

----Meanwhile on the Lars Ranch-—

Luc: (To droid) come on already! (Impatiently waits) Uhg you walk too slow! (Just picks the dang thing up and chuks it in the back of their speeder then drives off)

(Luc arrives at Anchorhead a woman angrily waves her fists at them as they drive by)

Old Woman: I told you kids to slow down around here!

(Luc ignores her and stops in front of the power station which is the only slightly interesting place on tatooine. It’s still hot as hell though so does it really matter? They walk into the station and see a rugged mechanic and Camie “a sexy” disheveled girl who is making out with the mechanic when Luc walks in.)

Luc: Ew

Waxer: Shut your porthole wormie

Luc: (Gives them an L) Losers

Camie: You're such a child!

Biggs: Well it seems like no ones changed!

(Luc turns to see their childhood Bestie Biggs Darklighter, “a burly handsome boy”)

Luc: Oh my gosh Bestie?! I didn’t know you were back!

Biggs: Yeah I’m surprised too. Nice to see you again wormie. I thought you’d be here. I certainly didn’t think you’d be out working. (laughs)

Luc: What’s that supposed to mean?

Biggs: (Laughs and ruffles their hair) It really is good to see you hot shot!

Luc: The academy hasn’t changed you much, but you’re back so soon. What happened? 

Biggs: Nothing bad, I got my commission. First mate biggs darklighter at your service (he salutes)

Luc: Man I’d love to see you with combed hair for once

Biggs: (Laughs) Well I came back because I wanted to say goodbye to all you land locked simpletons. (Pats them on the shoulder)

Luc: D-did you just touch me! That’s a hate crime! (Pretends to be appalled)

(Camie rolls her eyes)

Luc: Oh I almost forgot. (Speaks non shelauntly) There's a space battle going on. (Points to a spot in the sky where they had seen explosion through their micro binoculars earlier)

Waxer: Stop with that dumb bathat poodoo, I’m not falling for that again!

(Camie stares at the sky)

Camie: Yeah nice eyes wormie there's nothing up there.

Biggs: (Looks through macrobinoculars) Yeah sorry Luc they’re just sitting there. Probably refiling or something.

Luc: (Crosses arms) Well they were fighting earlier

Waxer: Yeah I don’t buy it!

Luc: Well that’s a you problem.

(Waxer shrugs and rolls his eyes, then drags Camie back into the station to play pool with Deak and Windy)

(Meanwhile Leia is insulting Vader and getting arrested)

(Luc and Biggs are walking outside drinking a “Malt Brew” (don’t ask me what that is) the others can be heard inside)

Luc: (Very animated) So then- get this because it was so cute! So next I went up to- Well, in the game in the game I was carrying all of these books, right? And they were super heavy, so- Ahh, it was so cute, so I picked the “intimacy up” choice- (this was written by Luc themself)

Biggs: You better take it easy Luc. You might be a good pilot but if you get too cocky you might end up as a decoration on the canyon wall.

Luc: Look who’s talking, you're the one who’s piloting big fancy starships!

Biggs: I’ve missed you kid!

Luc: Good! >:)

Biggs: Uh i didn’t come back to just say goodbye…

Luc: Don’t tell me you want to break up!

Biggs: What? Oh! (Laughs) Don’t mess with me like that!

Luc: Why’d you even hesitate? Oh whatever, what do you want to say?

Biggs: I made some friends at the academy

Luc: And you’re replacing me or some dumb druk

Biggs: This is serious (whispers) me and my buddies are gonna hop a ship and join the Alliance-

Luc: Sorry breaking the law just sounds so much more fun than being stuck here!

Biggs: Then you should come with me

Luc: Bestie, you know my uncle. There’s no way he’s gonna let me have a life off this rock let alone join a kriffing war.

Biggs: What good is your uncle’s work if it’s taken over the empire? You know they are starting to nationalize commerce in the central systems. 

Luc: Wish I could tell him that

Biggs: It won’t be long before your Aunt and Uncle and maybe even you are merely tenants for the greater glory of the empire.

Luc: Nah because I’ll just take over the Empire before they can do that!

Biggs: You’d probably be a better leader then old Palpy.

Luc: Exactly!- Are you going to be around long?

Biggs: No, I'm heading out in the morning…

Luc: Then I guess I won’t see you.

Biggs: You never know. Keep a look out alright?

Luc: Yeah. I’m supposed to go to the Academy next rotation, after that I don’t know. I’m not gonna be some dumb pilot for pricy admirals to gauk over, thats for sure.

Biggs: Yeah (choked laugh) So long Luc (Messes with their hair)

60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - McCoy 10th Review

Bernice Summerfield: Oh No It Isn't! - Spin-off

Part of what makes Bernice Summerfield such a long running success is that her series can function as a standalone thing rather than just a spin-off.

When Virgin Publishing lost the rights to Doctor Who back in 1996, they dug Benny (a character they had created for the New Adventures novels) out of the closet and designed a new series around her with no ties to Doctor Who what so ever.

That's not to say that they erased the character's past, she's still a companion and technically the series still takes place in the world of Who, but no mentions of the Doctor nor any other BBC owned character appear or are even named dropped.

So basically you can pick up this first novel, like I did, without ever having touched any of the NAs, or even without having seen an episode of Who in your life.

Because, besides Benny herself, the only other thing that can be associated with Who is Menlove Stokes from that Fourth Doctor book we covered, The Romance of Crime. And there's no references to that story here either.

But what about the actual book? Is it any good?

Ehhhh....

I want to like it. I really do.

I love the premise. Getting caught in a augmented reality based off fairy tales!? Yes please!

Also most the characters are likable enough, even with such a large cast.

But there's one thing that really drags the whole book down.

It's the subplot between Benny and one of her students.

Through out the story Benny keeps debating about whether or not she should pursue a romance with one of the college kids that she teaches... and it's just gross.

Granted, she never goes through with it, and the narrative repeatedly points out why it's toxic, but like... why the fuck would introduce your main hero with a such a subplot anyways?

I mean if you're going to tell such a story then actually tell it. Make it the focus and draw some real drama from it. Don't shove it into the background of a completely different narrative after introducing it.

The end result is just uncomfortable and distracting. The darker subject matter clashes horribly with the surreal comedy romp that the rest if the story wants to be, and so it never feels fully resolved.

In addition it winds up undoing any hard work the book made to present it's hero as relatable and likable.

I mean, my gosh, plenty of women get a divorce without turning into pedos... seriously what the fuck?

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know the character is in college and would technically be considered 'legal', but he's still described as a teenager several times through out the book and she's in her mid to late 30s.

Also.. She's His Damn Teacher!

However, whenever this unpleasantness is shoved aside for the actual story, it's pretty dang good.

It's charming, funny, and fun!

Even if you're not familiar with British Panto you can still follow along with the tropes easily enough as they're mostly still rooted in fairy tales and musical theater.

It's certainly more digestible then most Virgin fare, I'll give it that, but it's still not enough to make me a Benny fan, sorry.

GUYS OMG I JUST SAW MY FIRST MUSICAL. my Highschool did a Percy Jackson musical and OH MY GOSH I was BLOWN away. now you get to hear about it (please keep in mind I have only read the first book, which is what the musical was anyways but it was YEARS ago and I don’t think I even completely finished it SOOO. also spoilers ig?)

HADES ISTG HADES. he had SUCH A DRAMATIC SCENE AND I CHEERED SO LOUD (dw everyone else did too) and he ROCKED IT SO WELL he perfected that snarky antagonist that doesn’t really care but still has motive and bonus of being a pain in the butt! and he drawled SO WELL I KID YOU NOT HE HAD ME CAPTIVATED. I LOVED his part!!!

dude… Poseidon… LMFAOOO IM DEADD. they had him portrayed as some dude in a Hawaiian shirt THE ACTOR DUDE I WAS ROLLING HE WAS SO FREAKING HILARIOUS. he kinda had that low chill surfer dude voice and he had THE FUNNIEST BITS especially at the end when he reunited with Percy and his mom. I love that take on his character. I’m PRETTY sure he’s not like that in the book 😂😂

And Percy’s mom was awesome too! her singing was GORGEOUS and I loved her moments with Percy :) not much to say other than SHE DID AMAZING‼️

BRO I CANT GET OVER THE TRIO THO. their bits were HILARIOUS and they definitely held those “stupid besties that r probably doomed but we’re rocking this anyway” vibe that ANY good book/movie main group holds AHDHEJRIE THEY WERE HILARIOUS. Dude Percy and annabeth did amazing together and Grover was so SPUNKY YES and the ENSEMBLE THEMSELVES AAAAAA I CANTTTTT ESPECIALLY IN THE UNDERWORLD SCENE THEY ALL HAD SPUNKY OUTFITS AND THE DANCING WAS AWESOME!!!! THE CAMP HALF BLOOD SCENES WERE ALSO SO COOL AND IM RUNNING OUT OF COMPLIMENTS BUT LMFAO THEY HAD A BIT WHERE THEY SANG ABOUT THEIR GOD PARENT AND ALL OF THEM JUST SLIGHTLY INSULTING THEM TO FULL ON INSULTS WAS BEAUTIFUL.

overall, this was a great experience for me! I could really tell all the love and passion the students/actors had for this and I appreciate that they wanted to share with me and the audience members! It was a magical thing and I wish them all a FABULOUS JOB because they DESERVE IT‼️‼️‼️💖💖💖💖💖 they really made my whole week and I might even consider joining theatre too :D
