another "treat" bc i'm drunk and being made to think about rear 32, inadvisably! this is the uhhhh original inspo for The Tooth Fic. it was not a full dental kink, the initial concept was oscar-in-the-throes and just sort of giving up on being a person and mark taking care of him in the most basic sense of it all

“You know you’re way too old for me to be doing this,” Mark says, stern like he’s his dad. Oscar doesn’t respond. It seems impolite to talk with his mouth full.

Mark clicks his tongue and tugs the floss free from between Oscar’s canines, pushes further to get between his molars. It’s kind of humiliating. That he’s nearly twenty and he’s having his teeth done by someone who isn’t, like, a paid professional. Like he’s nine and not nineteen. 

The floss gets a bit deep. Oscar winces. There’s blood in his mouth, but he’s not done this in… months, maybe. This is the expected and probably deserved result.

Mark clicks his tongue again but he’s gentler on the next set. His face has gone softer.

“Not going to do this for you every day,” Mark says, quieter this time, working between Oscar’s back molar and the beginning edge of a wisdom tooth that’s only just come in. “When you’re back on the road you’re going to have to do it yourself.”

Oscar shrugs one shoulder. Mark’s moving on now, to the other side of his mouth. Oscar tips his head to let him in. 

“I’m not going to brush them for you, either,” Mark says, somewhat more gruffly. 

Oscar has to work against smiling. He’ll probably brush them for him. He’s good like that, when Oscar’s like this.

It’s proximity more than anything that has Oscar twitching his hips forward. Proximity and the feeling of being cared for, too, the vulnerability of letting Mark stick his fingers in his mouth and mess about with his teeth. There’s nothing inherently sexy about dental work. There is a lot inherently sexy about Mark getting his fingers practically down Oscar’s throat.

Mark sighs when Oscar rubs up against him, but Oscar’s not fooled. He’s into it too. The bulge at the front of his jeans is obvious. He likes having Oscar like this as much as Oscar likes being had like this.

“Brat,” Mark says, but he’s shuffling in as close as he can, thighs against the countertop, letting Oscar wrap his legs around his hips.

Just saw your post about NaruMitsu and I think I understand the direction of what you mean by them being flanderized, but I don't think I get your points. I'd love to hear what part of them are flanderized by the fandom :o

Well tbf I didn’t give any points so there weren’t any to get /s. I’d also like to clarify I’m not criticizing anyone’s interpretation of these guys. This is entirely based on my perception of these characters so like…I can’t dictate what other people feel I’m merely making claims on my own personal opinion. They’re fictional characters and it doesn’t matter, I’m just gonna rant bc you asked lol.

That being said, as to what I said in my initial post, every character in the ace attorney series is flanderized by both capcom and the fandom.

Both phoenix and edgeworth get oversimplified a TON and that bleeds into the depiction of their relationship. What I personally love about the ace attorney series is that there is so much emotional devastation but the characters continue to be themselves throughout this trauma. The flanderizstion, to me, comes from people’s desire to lean too far into this trauma and make the characters personality rooted in it instead of grown from it. People’s qualities are influenced by their trauma, especially extreme circumstances, but they are not defined by them.

When it comes to the interpretation of these characters, I find that there is a tendency to grasp onto one potential side effect of a traumatic circumstance and make it their entire personality. In terms of narumitsu, I see this a lot with “edgeworth is a complete softy who is just waiting for someone to save him” and “phoenix is a naive trusting fool who will throw his life on the line for anyone”. These are exaggerated statements, but I see it a lot in the depiction.

What I love about this pair is that they are just some guys. They are crazy, but they are just some guys. They are so incredibly normal, but they experience complex feelings as any person would. Personally, I feel as if sometimes these feelings and idiosyncrasies are leaned into too much to a point where the initial heart is lost and the character gets flanderized.
