I am grateful for all the activists fighting for a better world right now. All the people in Chicago Books to Women in Prison, all the people constantly trying to educate those around them on long Covid and the genocide in Palestine. All the maskers, all the people who got their flu shots, all the people at Thanksgivings where they don’t know if they can trust those around them to not give them a potentially disabling disease.

I’m also grateful for smaller things. For Stardew Valley’s 1.6 update. For my partner in life and love. For Ms Nellie Bly, my fuzziest roommate. For peppermint and good books. For the changing leaves and the scent of lilies or of lilac. For my travels this year, from snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef to meeting incredible animals to exploring the Alhambra. For coffee and clacky keyboards.

The holidays never have sat easy on my soul especially as time seems to slip so quickly between my fingers. Especially my brother being in the service, my niece’s first holiday & being denied by my job to go back home for Christmas and a slew of other things…it hasn’t been easy. But my blessings are overflowing and while I may not be able to grab their hands and thank them in person, I am forever thankful.
