I. i can fix him (no really i can)

“he had a halo of the highest grade, he just hadn’t met me yet.”
pairing: rafe cameron x innocent pogue! reader
word count: 1.9k
warnings: 18+ minors dni!! language, soft rafe cameron because my boy just needs some love, slow burn!!
mood board!
“hey,” i said, nudging him with my foot. “hey, rafe, i think it’s time for you to get up.”
i look down at the boy who was passed out on the ground of the beach. his shaved head covered in sand as beer bottles surrounded him. his eyes fluttered open at me, staring at me. “w-where the hell am i?” he said, slowly sitting up.
“the beach, it’s 6:30 in the morning.” i sigh, looking at my watch. “i assume you were at a party here last night and got ditched on the beach by your friends.”
i watched as he looked around the empty beach and groaned, covering his face with his hands and yawning. “fuck.” he mumbled to himself. he ran his hands down once before looking back at me. “thanks, for uh-….”
i laugh to myself. “making sure you were alive? don’t mention it.”
he nods with a smirk. “yeah, that.” we stay there in silence. “i’m sorry, w-what’s your name again? i recognize you from your friends i just…”
“y/n y/l/n.” i nod at him.
“y/n y/l/n.” he repeats back at me, not once breaking eye contact with me.
i feel my face heat up, not knowing what i’m feeling in this exact moment. this is rafe fucking cameron, kook prince and sworn enemy to my friends. he’s not a good person. i know who he is and i should hate him, but when his eyes pierce through me like that…like he knows all my secrets….that’s when i start to question reality. “well, i should get going.” i say, pointing awkwardly to the beach.
“it’s 6:30 in the morning, where could you possibly be going?” he asks, pushing his knees up and resting his arms on them.
i sigh and look around, feeling like i’m in the hot seat. “uh…it’s uh…it’s dumb, you wouldn’t wanna know.” i try to dismiss him.
“no, i wanna know, tell me.” he says, sternly.
i bite my lip and sigh. “towatchthedolphins.” i say in a fast whisper.
“what was that?” he asks with a cocky smile, making me blush. “i couldn’t hear ya, could ya speak up?”
“i’m watching the dolphins!” i say more clearer, looking down at him. “i’ve been waking up early and watching the dolphins. this is like their prime time, so i like to sit and watch them while i have my breakfast.” i admit to him.
i wait there, expecting him to laugh or do something heinous that rafe cameron would do to a pogue. but he doesn’t. he just nods. “cool, i didn’t know that was like a thing.”
did i take one of kie’s edibles this morning by accident? did i actually never wake up to my alarm and i’m still tucked away in bed? or did rafe cameron just have a super normal reaction to something i said to him?
“yeah, right now is the best season for it.” i inform him with a shy smile on my face.
he continues to stare at me with those fucking perfect blue eyes. he rakes over my body once and stands up. did he just check me out? “well, y/n, enjoy those dolphins. i should probably get home before my dad has a bitch fit. thanks again.” he waves goodbye to me before staggering away towards the exit of the beach. my body lets out a breathe that i didn’t even know i was holding and i start to feel tingly inside.
what the fuck just happened?
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
after that, i seem to find rafe cameron everywhere. as i ride my bike to work, go to the beach, hang out with the pogues. he’s clouded up my brain and i have no idea what to do. it’s not like i can tell anyone, i’d be marked with a scarlet T for traitor. but my thoughts can’t stop themself from being infiltrated by him.
“yo, y/n, everything cool?” jj asks me, sipping from his beer.
he snaps me from my rafe cameron brain rot, taking me by surprise. “yeah, everything’s alright. sorry, just a little tired.”
a whole group of us hang out by the beach at the boneyard, the usual pogues, some kooks who we invited in to fuck with, and the vacationers. everything was going alright, until i saw him.
“ain’t no fuckin way.” i hear jj spit.
rafe and his friends stroll up to the party, with a few girls scattered around them. i feel my face goes hot as my friends spit their remarks about him.
“what makes this douchebag think it’s okay to just show up here?” i hear kiara say.
“i don’t know but i don’t like it.” john b adds in.
my eyes can’t seem to leave his figure. he looks just as handsome as i remember from the beach. i know i am staring but i just cannot seem to care. but my brain short wires when he looks up, meeting my gaze with a cocky smirk. shit.
i feel my face get darker as i quickly avert my gaze down to my feet. "uh, i'm gonna get a beer. anyone want one?" but before my friends can even answer my question, i quickly make my way over to the coolers. once i know i am out of their sight, i take a well needed deep breathe and try to ground myself. my brain feels fuzzy with thoughts of rafe cameron but i have to push them down.
i bend over to grab a beer from the cooler when i hear a familiar voice behind me. "mind if i grab one?" i quickly turn my head to see rafe, staring into his blue eyes like they were the goddamn eighth wonder of the world.
he's so close yet so far away, i can smell the expensive cologne he has on. my brain gets off of autopilot and screams at me to put space between us, which i attempt to do. but before i can think, i'm tripping over my own feet, almost falling back. but i feel rafe's large hand quickly land on my lower back, saving me from the tumble.
"woah, there, did you already have that much to drink?" he jokes.
i stare at him, my face probably matching the color of a budweiser can. "i...uh...i..um..." i feel myself babbling on, unable to form a single thought as he has his hands on my body. "s-sorry about that. but i...i've only had one beer, i'm just a total klutz sometimes i swear."
he keeps his hand on my back, i can feel him slightly rubbing it, sending goosebumps all over my body. he keeps looking into my eyes, which seems to be his favorite hobby at this point. "well, i'm glad i caught ya." we stand there in silence for what feels like an eternity, until i remember where i am. who i am here with.
my friends.
i frantically look around, making sure they aren't looking at me dying under rafe’s touch. i pull away from him quickly.
"don't worry they aren't looking." he reassures, grabbing my beer and opening it for me. "i assume it's your friends you are looking for." he hands me back the cold beverage, our fingers brushing against each other.
i quickly snap my hand back and look up at him, he has a small smile on his face as he looks down at me. "sorry, but, i mean...you understand, right? my friends don't like you, you don't like them. if they see me talking over here with you...it'll be a whole thing."
"i didn't peg you as someone who cares about what other people thought about them. i don't know, i mean you did admit to me very easily your love for dolphin watching." he smirks as he grabs a can of beer and opens it. "just saying."
i want to hide away forever. "p-please don't mention that to anyone else. please." i beg with an awkward smile.
"i won't, i won't. don't get so freaked out." he takes a long sip of beer. "it's kinda cute." he says so nonchalantly.
did he just call me cute?
this is a prank, this is merely a big joke to him. it has to be.
i can tell i took too long to process what he just said because he nudges me lightly with his elbow. "did i lose you there?"
i shake my head and laugh. "sorry, i'm all good." we stand there, sipping our beers in silence. "why are you here?" i ask with no hesitation, which earns me a wide-eye reaction from rafe. "that was rude but...like for real, why? you never come to pogue parties. i thought we were too beneath you to ever join us."
"i mean, you have a point." he looks down at me with a smirk, which makes me flip him off. he chuckles at me and sips his beer. "honesty?"
"please." i say.
he sighs and looks around. "i'm here to see you."
i choke on the sip of beer i'm taking, too shocked at what he just told me. i watch as he steps forward in concern and tries to put his hand on my back, but i move away quickly. i cough agressively before turning to him. "i-i'm sorry, what?" i almost laugh in his face.
"i'm pretty sure you heard me, y/n. i'm here for you." he admits.
i stare at him, waiting for him to laugh, admit that it was a joke, or even a ploy to mess with the pogues like some kind of goddamn trojan horse. "you're serious?"
"i think you would know if i'm lying." he shrugs.
i stand there, unable to wrap my head around what he just said to me. "you're so full of shit." i blurt out.
he just laughs. "am i now?"
"you're here to see me? the girl whose name you couldn't even remember a few days ago?" i cock my eyebrow at him.
"is it so horrible to believe?" he questions. i look at him, trying to tell if this is real or fake. he waves his hand in front of my face. "i lost you there again."
"i'm sorry, it's just...i'm me...and you're you. we exist on totally different planets...universes." i tell him.
"yet here we are, right next to each other on planet earth." he says.
he got me there.
"y/n!?" i hear kiara yell.
rafe turns his head to the voice calling my name and then back to me. "that's your cue to leave, i think."
i cannot turn away from him, too dumbfounded about the past 5-minute conversation we just had. "you're not slick." i say, starting to walk away backwards so i'm facing him.
"i didn't think i was being slick!" he says, with his hands up in his defence.
"i see through you and your lies, rafe cameron! i really do!" i yell at him as i get further away.
"yeah, i'd like to see you try, y/n y/l/n!" he shouts back, smiling at me.
i crack a smile back to him and flip him off before walking into the crowd, looking for kiara.
she comes up and puts her shoulder around me. "you all good? was he bothering you?" she asks, looking back to where rafe and i were.
i follow her gaze and see rafe still standing there with that same look on his face. "no, he wasn't. i'm all good, i swear." i say honestly. "just having a small talk."
"with the kook prince? no one ever just has a 'small talk' with rafe cameron, y/n." she says, squeezing me tighter.
"well i guess i'm the first person to ever do so." i shrug and continue to walk back towards the boys, trying to hide the stupid smile rafe cameron put on my face.

Dennis doesn’t want you to meet his parents.
You realise that after you hand him the handwritten list of the best affordable places to take them during their weeklong stay in Pittsburgh.
“You said your dad likes pizza so I was thinking we could hit the Driftwood Oven for that perfect sourdough crust before fulfilling your mom’s sweet tooth needs with Millie’s just around the corner for ice cream.” You’re leaning in close, the scent of fresh soap and eucalyptus flooding your senses as your fingertip runs down the list. “I’ve put stars by their must-sees if they get time on the trip.”
“Thanks.” He says studying it diligently. “But I was thinking it should probably just be me tonight, you know since we’ve just started talking again.”
His words strike you like tiny barbs, needling you under the skin even though you know it’s unintentional.
Come on Lola. You aren’t the type of girl boys take home to meet their mom. One of your exes had told you.
Dennis isn’t like that you remind yourself. He’s been open about his issues with his parents. It’s just not the right time especially since he’s trying to rebuild the relationship he has with them.
“Yea that makes sense.” You say, ignoring the ache in your chest as you step back out of his proximity. He folds the list up before tucking it into the pocket of his scrubs.
“I could come over after…” He suggests but you shake your head, your hands clasped in front of you.
That line…
It’s another blast from the past. You can’t meet my parents but I’m happy to keep hooking up.
It’s not him, you tell yourself. It’s you, he doesn’t know that every single one of the words coming out of his mouth are triggers for the neurosis you’ve earned from your past relationships.
“No. You enjoy your time with your parents.” You say with a smile that doesn’t quite meet your eyes. “Don’t worry about me.”
When you decide to go out for a run after work it’s because you’ve had a really shitty day. There’d been a rollercoaster derailment at Kennywood and you’d spent most of your time out there helping with the onsite mortuary, collecting remains for identification by the medical examiner before documenting the process and cataloguing their belongings. As good as you are at compartmentalising, it never gets any easier especially when you’re handling kids.
You’re two miles in when you spot Dennis, he’s lingering outside Apple Castle, the best donut shop in Pittsburgh. He’s clad in a sky blue button up that you’ve never seen before, one that brings out the grey hues in his eyes.
“Hey.” You say in surprise as you slow down and pulling your earbuds out of your ears. “This is the most dressed up I’ve ever seen you.”
His cheeks colour as he tugs at the collar, popping the top button to reveal the slender curve of his throat. It causes a light flush of heat to blossom between your legs as you imagine helping him unbutton the rest of them.
“I know.” He says, rolling his eyes. “My mom realised I didn’t have any dress shirts so took me shopping, she wanted me to have some options for the residency interviews when they come up.”
“Well she has good taste.” You say, the edges of your mouth tipping up into a smile as your fingertips trail along the buttons. “You look very handsome.”
“Maybe I’ll wear it the next time we go out.” He says, his eyes glinting with mischief.
The door to the shop opens, the bell jingling and he steps away from you quickly, removing himself from your personal space. You frown at the response, your gaze shifting to a woman you recognise from the pictures in his room and her husband as they erupt onto the sidewalk, their arms laden with donut boxes.
“Those donuts are just fabulous, we got dozen for the congregation back at the hotel.” His mother says joyously before she notices you standing there. “Oh hello! Are you a friend of Denny’s?”
You look to him, waiting for him to correct her, to introduce you as his girlfriend but instead he clears his throat looking down at his shoes. You start to get this feeling then, this tingling sensation that starts in your chest and radiates into your hands.
It’s happening again, you realise. He’s not different from the other guys, he’s exactly like them.
Come on Lola, you aren’t the type of girl boys take home to meet their mom…
Fuck, you’re an idiot and the worst part is you let him off the fucking hook.
“Yes.” You say, clasping your earbuds so hard in your fist, you fear you’ll break them. “We work together at the hospital. I was just out for a run when I saw him and thought there’s my friend Dennis, I should go say hi.”
The muscle in his cheek twitches at your annunciation of the word but he still doesn’t meet your gaze.
“Well it’s lovely to meet with someone he works with.” His mom says with a smile that looks exactly like his. “I’m sure you’ll miss him when he returns to Nebraska for his residency.”
It’s then that the world falls out from underneath your feet because this, this was never meant to be long term. He has always known that he’d be leaving after Match Day. He’s always known that this relationship had an expiry date.
“Yes.” You say softly, your eyes stinging. “I’m glad he’s doing what’s best for him.”
You don’t dare look at him right now. You’re too close to falling apart.
“I need to get going, finish my run but it was nice meeting you.” You say shoving your earbuds back into your ears and cranking up the volume. “I’m sure I’ll see you around Whitaker.”

“What if you’re pregnant?”
You freeze, staring at your friend across the table, “Shut up, that’s not- don’t even put that out there.”
“I’m serious.” She leans forward, “You haven’t really touched your dinner and you get this every. Single. Time we come here. You’re not getting your normal marg. Something is going on.”
“I ate before I came, and I’m just not feeling like a drink tonight.” You shrug, “Simple explanation, Rey.”
She furrows her brows, “Mhm. Okay. Well, I’m just saying, that id take a test if I were you, you just never know- when was your last period?”
“Like two weeks ago.” You shrug, “It’s never on time, I’ve always had that issue. Nothing new.” You slide your hand to your stomach, “Or maybe I’m getting it here soon, I have been bloated, and that’s normal before I get my period.”
“Okay.” She smiles as she flags down your waiter, “Hi, yeah. I’m going to need some boxes and the check please.”
“We’re leaving already?” You lean forward and she stares at you, “We have bigger fish to fry and gossip over dinner. We need to find out if you’re with child or if Mother Nature is just toying with you.”
As you make your way to the car, you slow down, choking back the urge to throw up. You take a deep breath, trying not to make Rey possibly anymore right.
You open the door, getting in and she looks at you, “You look pale, are you okay?”
You nod, “Y-yep. Uh huh.”
“Are you going to throw up?”
You nod, leaning out of the open door and she leans over to hold your hair back, “It’s okay. You’re good.” She rubs your back with her other hand, “Get it out.”
You lean back, letting out a sigh, “Oh I feel better.”
“Here.” She hands you a piece of gum and you take it, “Thanks.” She starts to drive and you rest your head back, “Do you think Sam will hate me if I’m pregnant?”
“Oh my god, no. I think he’ll be estatic.”
“You think?”
She nods, “Do you see the way he lights up when your nephew is around? How he babbles like an idiot with him and pretends he knows what he’s saying?” She scoffs, “Sam is the best guy you can ever have as the father of your child.”
You rest your hand on your stomach, “You know, a part of me is scared to death, but knowing I’ll have Sam to go through it with me.. just makes me feel better.”
“It should. You need someone who is going to be there for you, and he sure as hell will.” She smiles at you, “I think this will be a good thing.” She holds her hand up, “If you are, you know. We don’t want to jump to any conclusions.”
You nod, “Yeah, no. You’re right. You’re right.”
She pulls up to the drug store and you shake your head, “If I get out, I’ll throw up again.” She lays a hand on your arm, “I will go get it. You stay right here, okay? Do you need anything else?”
“A candy bar, maybe?” She laugh, “I’ve been wanting chocolate all damn day.”
“Got it. Be right back.”
You watch as she leaves and your phone ringing causes you to jump. You pull it from your purse and smile when you see Sam across the screen, “Hey, baby.”
“Hey. I just wanted to call you before we boarded. How was dinner with Rey?” Sam says through the phone, and you smile bigger, “It was good, you know, normal girl gossip. How many hours is your flight again?”
“Five. We should land around three and then I’ll be home around five. That’s if we don’t have any issues with our luggage like last time.”
“Hopefully not. I’ll try and stay up, but I’m not making any promises.” You laugh, which causes Sam to chuckle, “You don’t have to wait up, baby. I’ll wake you up when I get home.”
“Okay. Have a safe flight, I can’t wait to see you.” You rest your elbow against the door and he sighs, “I’m so excited to see you. I miss you so much.”
“I miss you.” You tilt your head, “I love you.”
“I love you. See you soon.”
“See you soon.”
You hang up and let out a sigh as you see Rey walking back out. She gets to the car and slides in, “I got two boxes, each has two tests and oh.” She pulls out a candy bar and you gasp, snatching it from her hands, “Oh I love you. Thank you.”
You tear open the wrapper and take a bite, groaning as it’s everything you wanted all day, “So good.”
“Good. Now let’s go see if you’re pregnant.”
You chat about the possibly and what to expect, your worries and such the whole way home. You walk in, turning on the lights before making your way to the bathroom.
Rey already has one open and ready for you to take before you even turn the bathroom light on, “Here.”
You look at her and take it, “Thanks.. I will..“ you sigh, “Can you come with me?”
“Right behind you.” She follows you in, closing the door and you sit down to pee on the stick. You set it on the counter, resting your hands in your face before standing up.
As you’re buttoning your jeans, you hold your stare on Rey, “I’m going to need you to look at it for me.”
She nods and leans forward, hand slapping over her mouth, “There’s already two lines. What the fuck!” You lean in, your own hand slapping your own mouth as your eyes fixate on the already darkened first line, “Oh holy fuck.”
“You’re going to have a baby!” She pulls you in for a hug, “I know you’re in shock right now, but I’m here.”
You can feel tears welling up in your eyes as you hug her right, “I’m suddenly so scared right now.”
“That’s okay. What you’re feeling is totally and one hundred percent okay.” She leans back, cupping your cheeks, “You have people to help, I promise.”
You nod, “I think I’m going to take the other one here as soon as I can pee again. Oh my god, that wasn’t even a minute.”
“I know!” She scoffs, “Do you know when Sam will be home?” You nod, “He called me when you were in the store, he was getting ready to board. He has a five hour flight, so he’ll be home really early tomorrow morning.”
“Do you want me to stay?”
You shrug, “It’s up to you. I’m going to get a shower and probably come back down to watch tv.”
“Okay, I’ll stay until you’re done with your shower.”
She sat in the bathroom while you showered, mostly talking about how excited she is, and you. Yes, you were nervous, but you couldn’t help but think about Sam being a dad.
After you showered and changed, she hung out a little bit more before leaving.
You were sat on the couch, curled up under the big blanket Sam got you for Christmas. Your hand was pressed to your belly as you scrolled through nursery aesthetics on Pinterest.
You slowly felt yourself drifting to sleep, phone falling from your hand onto the floor as you let the much needed sleep in.
A few hours later, you felt a hand gently shaking you awake, “Hey. Y/n, I’m home.”
You gasped, sitting up as you see Sam bending down to pick up your phone, “You must have dozed off down here.” He laughs and you reach out, “Hi.”
“Hi.” He sits next to you, pulling you into his chest, “Come on, let’s go to bed.” He goes to stand up, but you stop him, “No, I need to tell you something.”
You could hear his heart beat harder in his chest, “Okay? What’s up?”
You sit up, reaching into your sweatshirt pocket, “I wanted to do something more extra but I wanted you to know as soon as you got home.”
You hold out your hand and he takes the test, a small gasp leaving his lip, “Oh.. my god.” He studies the positive line, tilting his head as he sniffles, “Are you okay?”
You nod, “Other than being sick and bloated, I was just really anxious on how you were going to react.”
“I’m happy if you’re happy, y/n.” He leans in to kiss your head, “I’m actually really excited. Holy shit.” He laughs, pulling you in for a hug, “Were going to be okay, we can do this.”
“Rey was with me and she kept reassuring me that you weren’t going to freak out.” You laugh slightly, “Ever since the day you left, I’ve had this anxiety that I just couldn’t get over. I’d cry over everything, but I didn’t want you to worry while you were filming with Colby.”
He shakes his head, “No. if you need me, you call me. Text me. Whatever. You come before the channel, baby.” He pulls you into him, “Especially now. You need anything I swear I will drop what I’m doing and get to you as fast as I can.”
You feel tears welling up in your eyes and you sniffle as you squeeze them shut.
“Hey, hey.” Sam leans back, tilting your chin up. His thumbs swipe away the stray tears, “It’s okay. It’s okay. Look at me.”
You open your eyes, blinking out a few tears before looking up at him.
He gives you a small smile, “It’s okay. I’m happy to do whatever it is you need. I promise.” He gently runs his thumb over your cheek, “Well figure it out over time, alright?”
You give him a nod, “Alright.”
Over the next few months, Sam was anxious himself, more or less leaving you alone for more than a few hours in a day.
You didn’t want him to miss out, or completely stop doing what he does, so you opted to go with him for as long as you could. Of course Colby knew, he was the first person you guys told together, and he was beyond excited.
He made sure you were good, probably just as much as Sam.
You stayed in the hotels close to their investigation sites, receiving calls and texts from Sam every so often, just to check in.
He was at your every beck and call, doing anything you needed, no matter how silly or stupid you thought it was. You wanted something sweet or salty that you didn’t have in the house or wherever, he went out and got it.
No matter where you were, he would make sure you were right by his side, his arm wrapped around you, hand resting on the side of your baby bump.
You didn’t fully confirm anything. You wanted to wait until you actually had the baby before posting anything about it, but it’s not like you were full on hiding it.
You seen a few fans speculate, some people zooming in on pictures to see if you have a bump or not, you really thought it was funny in a way.
You were nearing the end of your pregnancy and you couldn’t fly anymore, which worked out perfect because Sam and Colby had already lined up a few months break to go over their channel and what not.
You were pacing around the nursery one night, making sure you had everything you knew you needed.
“Baby, it’s two in the morning.” Sam’s voice gently breaks the silence, “Are you okay? What’s going on?”
He walks over to you, gently sliding his hands on your hips. You let out a sigh, leaning back into him, “I’m just.. worried we don’t have everything.”
“I made sure we did at the baby shower, both your mom and my mom helped me do it.” He runs a hand up to gently squeeze your shoulder, “You’re freaking out, aren’t you?”
You nod, gasping as you try not to cry. You turn, wrapping your arms around his torso, “I think it’s finally hitting me that it’s not going to just be us anymore.”
“It’s a big change, sweetheart.” Sam whispers as he runs his hand over your hair, “But if it makes you feel any better, this has only made me love you so much more.”
You smile, looking up at him, “I didn’t think I could love you anymore than I already do.” You laugh, “You have been..” you sniffle, “You’ve been such a big help to me, and I know I’ve been crazy with the demands-“
“You’re not crazy, it’s just stuff that comes with being pregnant. You like things and you hate things, I don’t fully get it, but I get it, baby.” He tucks hair behind your ear, “You’re doing just fine, okay?”
You nod, “Thank you.”
He presses a kiss to your forehead, tilting your chin up to kiss your lips, “I love you. So, so much.”
“I love you.” You smile and wrap your arm around him as you make your way back to bed.
The next night, you sat up in bed, your hand flying over to slap Sam’s arm, “Sam. Sam.” He sits up instantly, “Hey, hey. What’s going on?”
“I think, I’m having contractions.” You lay your hand on your stomach, “Yeah.” You breathe out, “Shit, ouch.” He lays his hand on your back, “I’ll get the bags, is there anything you need me to do?”
You shake your head, “No, I’ll call-“ you take a deep breath, “I’ll call my mom, and your mom.” He nods pressing a kiss to your head, “Okay, if you need me just yell. I’lll be right back.”
You nod, watching as he flicks the light on and slips on a sweatshirt. He grabs your packed bags and runs them down by the door.
You call your mom, then Sam’s mom before getting out of bed. You make your way over to grab a sweatshirt and as you’re standing there, you feel a gush, “Sam!”
“What happened?” He runs in, stopping when he sees the small puddle by your feet, “Yeah, I’m going to say your water broke. Come on, I got you.” He walks over, helping you down the steps and out to the car.
He runs back to grab the bags and you squeeze your eyes shut as you try to breathe through each contraction you have.
Sam takes your hand, not letting it go until you reach the hospital.
You make your way inside and you’re taken up to the labor floor. You’re admitted and changed into a gown. Sam is right by your side, wiping the sweat from your forehead and pressing kisses to your head, “You’re doing so good, baby.”
You let out a pained groan, “Oh my god. This fucking hurts.”
“I know, baby. I know.” He rests his head onto yours as you reach up to hold his neck, “Okay.” You sigh, “That one is over.” You laid there panting, turning your head to press a lazy kiss to his lips, “When are they coming back in to check?”
“Should be a few minutes.” He squeezes your hand, “Do you want me to call them?”
You nod, “Yes, something- I think he’s coming out.”
He nods pressing your call button, the nurse comes in and Sam tells her what’s happening and her face goes from a smile to shocked, “Okay, yeah, y/n. I’m going to need you to refrain from pushing, okay? I can see his head, I need to get your doctor in here.”
You sit up slightly and Sam wraps his arm around you, “Don’t push. Try not to.”
“I’m trying.” You gasp, tears welling into your eyes as you let out a loud groan, “S-shit. Sam. Sam.” You grab his shirt and pull him closer, “I-I-“ you tilt your head back, doing everything in your power to not push, it was like the lower half of your body had a mind of its own.
You knew you couldn’t, but it was trying so hard to push.
“I hear we’re ready to have a baby.” A woman walks in, quickly gowning up, “Alright, y/n.” She positions herself at the lower end of your bed and she looks up at you, “Big push, alright?”
“Big push, baby.” Sam whispers, “You got it.”
You squeeze your eyes shut, pushing as hard as you can. You felt dizzy, you felt hot and sweaty. You let out a groan as you came to the end of your push.
“Doing so good, so so so good.” Sam brushes the damp hair from your face, “I’m so proud of you. He’s almost here.”
“Another push.” The doctor orders and you take a deep breath, shaking your head, “I-I can’t, Sam. I-It-“
He squeezes your hand in his, “You can, I know you can. You have to push now, sweetheart. You have to.” He rests his forehead against yours, “One more and he’ll be here.”
You whine, taking a deep breath before giving it all you have.
You felt another gush and something so weird you don’t even know how to explain. The sound of crying causes you to snap your head open and you gasp, immediately bursting into tears, “Oh my god.”
“You did it!” Sam says through tears, “You did it, baby. There’s our boy!” He presses multiple kisses to your forehead, “I’m so proud of you.”
You look up at him with a smile, tears streaming down your cheeks as he presses kisses to your lips.
The nurse brings the baby up, laying him on your chest and you immediately fell more in love with the little face staring back at you.
“He’s perfect.” Sam whispers, gently running his fingers over the baby’s head, “You did so good, baby.” He kisses your head and sniffles, “I love you.”
“I love you.” You kiss him and he smiles, “He’s so.. I can’t even explain it.” He laughs, “Oh I’m so proud of you.” He rests his cheek on your head as he stares down at the little bundle on your chest.
A little bit later, after your moms came in, Colby is brought in.
Colby immediately walks up to Sam, giving him a hug before moving to you. He wraps his arms around you, “How are you? How are you feeling?”
You smile, “I’m exhausted.”
“I’m sure.” He runs his hand over your hair, “I’m so happy for you guys, now where is little man?” He looks around and stops as Sam brings him over.
Colby smiles, walking up to him, “Oh my god, look at him.” His smile drops as he sees the name on the blanket he wrapped in, “Are you- is that-“ he looks from Sam to you and you nod.
Sam gently lay the baby in Colby’s arms, “Colby, I want you to meet Cole Golbach.”
Colby’s eyes immediately well up with tears and his lips quivers as he tries to speak but he can’t. He lays a hand over his eyes and shakes his head.
You instantly burst into tears and Sam follows, quickly wiping them away, “Consider this a thank you for just you being you. You were always there for not only me, but for y/n, too, and we couldn’t think of a better name to give him. We love you, man.”
Colby holds his hand out, pulling Sam into a hug.
Cole makes noise and Colby looks down, “Yeah that’s right, buddy. When people ask, you get to tell them you’re named after the best uncle ever.”
Colby comes over and hugs you, “Thank you, both.” You smile, nodding as you watch him walk over to the chair and sit with the new baby in his arms.
You hold out your arm when Sam comes to sit next to you. You lean into him, letting out a small sigh as you rest your head on his shoulder.
“I think he loves him just as much as we do.” Sam whispers and you nod, “He sure does.” He kisses your head, “You did so good, mama. I’m so beyond proud of you.”
A few days later, you were settled in at home.
You were laying on the couch, trying go rest, but you couldn’t help but watch Sam in dad mode. He was great. He was holding him against his chest, humming quietly as his fingers ever so gently tapped his back.
“You’re so good with him.” You whisper with a smile, “I could watch this all day.”
He smiles, walking over to sit next to you. You lean against his arm, eyes focused on the sleeping baby, “He looks so much like you.”
Sam smiles, “I was thinking he looked like you.”
You laugh, shaking your head, “I don’t see it, but thank you.” He nods, soothing the baby when he starts to fuss. He stands back up, bouncing him in his arms, “I think he needs a diaper change.”
You go to get up, but Sam shakes his head, “No, I got it. You lay back down. I’ll be back in a minute.”
You watch as he walks away and you shake your head, letting out a gentle sigh as you settle back into the couch. A few minutes later, Sam returns and he walks over to lay him down in the bassinet.
He makes sure he’s asleep before coming to sit with you. You lay your legs over his lap and his hands brush gently up and down your shins, “Remember how you said you wanted to do something extravagant when you found out you were pregnant?”
You nod, looking over at him, “Yes?”
He takes a deep breath, moving to kneel in front of you on the floor, “I’m in the same place, but right now, it just feels like there isn’t anything better than this.”
Your eyes search his face, dropping down to watch him pull a box from this hoodie pocket, “Sam.” You can’t help but smile as he opens the box, “When Colby and I went to that old hotel, we didn’t just go there. I went there to get this, too.”
You feel tears welling in your eyes and you cover your lips with your fingers, “You can give me the speech, but I’m saying yes regardless.” You laugh and he laughs, sniffling as he pulls the ring from the soft velvet cushion, “I knew I wanted to marry you from day one, I just never knew when the right time would be, but now that we’re here, I feel like it would be wrong if I didn’t ask you to be my wife. I love you, so so much. There isn’t anyone else I would want to go through life with.” He pauses, “gosh, I didn’t think I’d cry like this.” He wipes his cheeks, letting out a sigh, “Will you please, do me the honor, and become my wife?”
“I love you.” You lean in, pressing your lips to his, “Yes, I will marry you.”
He slips the ring on your finger and pulls you in, pressing his lips to yours, “I love you. I love you so much.”
You wrap your arms right around his neck, sniffling, “I love you.”

just friends
words: 3.1k
warnings: drinking
“hey rafey.” you call, bouncing into the room and giving him a kiss on the very top of his head.
rafe eyes kelce and topper immediately. “only she gets to call me that.” he says sternly, and they both nod, knowing he’s not kidding about that.
“what are you doing, y/n/n?” rafe asks as you start to rifle through the cabinets in his kitchen.
“getting something to eat.” you say with a shrug, frowning when you can’t find any snacks you like.
“here.” rafe stands up from the stool he’s sitting on and pushes it back under the counter, rounding it to place a hand on your back and guide you to the pantry. he opens it and grabs your favorite bag of chips, knowing exactly what you prefer after 15 years of friendship.
“perfect!” you say happily, giving rafe a dazzling smile, pouring some in a bag and handing rafe the bag back to put away. you head out of the room, going to eat in front of the tv. rafe watches you leave before returning to his spot between topper and kelce.
“why aren’t you dating her again?” kelce asks, making rafe give him a slap on the arm.
“she’s my best friend.” rafe clarifies. you’re the one good thing he’s managed to keep in his life, a light in the darkness, his only source of joy some days when his dad is being particularly cruel or the pain of missing his mom gets too great.
--
“hey rafe, i was wondering if you were gonna miss family dinner.” your mom says, giving him a quick hug.
“and miss your cooking? never mrs y/l/n.” rafe smiles, always putting his charm on when he’s around your parents, despite them already loving him like he’s her own son.
“y/n is outside on the daybed, i think we’ll eat outside since it’s such a nice day.”
“that sounds perfect.” rafe heads towards the door before turning back to call, “let me know if you need any help!”
you look up from your phone when rafe comes out onto the patio, smiling at your best friend. “come hereeeee, rafey.” you say, dropping your phone and opening your arms to him.
rafe joins you on the daybed, resting his head on the pillow next to you as he lays down, pulling you into his hold. you grin as you snuggle into his hold, resting your head against his chest, feeling the familiar heartbeat against your cheek.
you don’t even need to speak, simply relaxing and enjoying being around each other, rafe rubbing his hand up and down over your back, you tracing shapes on his torso.
your mom carries the dishes to the outdoor table, with the help of your dad who just got home from work. “do you think they’re finally going to realize that they’re in love with each other now that they’re older?” your mom asks with a sigh, wiping her hands on her apron as she watches the two of you.
“i’m sure they will soon.” your dad says, placing a hand on his wifes back, “on their own time.”
--
rafe grins as you walk down the stairs and into the dining room, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. your hair is a mess of curls, sticking out in every direction from your scalp.
“why-” you say, flopping down on the seat next to rafe, “do you look so awake right now?”
you thought you were getting up early when you dragged yourself out of bed at 10 am after a movie marathon with rafe that lead you far too late in the night.
“you know i always sleep best when you’re in the bed with me.” rafe says, offering you his bowl of cereal, knowing he can get more later, wanting you to eat as well. you accept it, talking about the movie as you finish off the honey nut cheerios.
“hey y/n.” wheezie greets you, also still in her pajamas, but you’re so comfortable with each other that she doesn’t mind, it’s nowhere near the first time.
“hey wheez.” you say with a smile.
“did you sleep over?” she asks.
“mhm!” you hum in response. “do you wanna do something today wheez? i can take you shopping if you want.” “oh yeah!” wheezie says. “let me get dressed.” “woah, woah, slow down! eat first then we can get some starbucks, okay? besides i still have to shower.” “okay, thanks y/n/n.” wheezie says, rushing out of the room.
“i can’t believe my little sister is stealing my best friend from me.” rafe pouts, crossing his arms.
“oh shush.” you say, standing up and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
--
“ugh!” you shout, watching the liquid fall down the front of your dress, soaking the material. your bottom lip quivers. you felt so beautiful tonight, your hair and makeup came out perfectly, but now the beer spilled down your front is ruining that completely.
“i’m so so sorry-” the man begins to apologize, but rafe is already hovering over you, giving the guy a look that his him almost shaking in fear.
“get. out.” rafe manages to say through gritted teeth. the man backs away, heading out of the party.
“rafe, you didn’t have to make him leave.” you say with a pout.
“but i did, he ruined your pretty dress, baby.” rafe hates the look on your face, would do anything to make you smile again, to make you feel better.
you sniffle at the mention of your dress. rafe completely forgets that he’s supposed to be hosting this party right now, taking your hand and tugging you inside of the house and up the stairs.
“come on, sarah wouldn’t mind if you wear something of hers.” rafe says, directing you into his sisters room. you know he’s right, you’re practically a big sister to sarah with how much you’re around. you’ll send her a text promising to give the dress back clean and take one out of her closet.
rafe waits outside the door as you change, taking the dirty dress and tossing it into the laundry room to deal with later.
“i’m so sorry, bunny.” rafe says, using the nickname he gave you originally in third grade when you would come over just to bounce on his trampoline, until you begged your parents enough that they got one as well.
“it’s okay.” you say, shoving him away from you once you get downstairs, “now go get more beers, i’m sure we’re running low.” rafe nods, letting you boss him around, the one person who can tell him what to do and he’ll actually listen.
you head back out to the party, your friend coming up to you and handing you a drink. “thank youuu.” you coo, taking a sip of the bitter liquid.
“you know, nobody believes you guys are just friends.” she says with a laugh.
“huh?” you ask, only half listening as your eyes scan the party.
“you and rafe, everyone thinks theres something more going on.” “oh my god.” you roll your eyes, sick of this conversation surrounding yours and rafes relationship. “we are just friends! just really good friends!” you say.
“uh huh.” your friend says, and you can tell that she absolutely does not believe you.
--
“rafey, i’m cold.” you say, tucking yourself underneath his arm, giving a tug at the sweatshirt covering his waist.
“i told you to put something warmer on!” rafe says, taking his eyes off the football game you’re watching to tug his sweatshirt off, hanging it over to you without a second thought.
“you also said you liked my shirt, so you’re sending a lot of mixed signals here.” you say as you pull the sweatshirt over your head, making rafe chuckle.
you make sure he’s not going to get cold himself by wrapping your arms around him, keeping your body close together to share your heat. you breathe deeply into the collar of his sweatshirt, loving the comforting scent.
“this is exactly what i mean.” your friend says when she rejoins you after getting a pretzel from a snack vendors.
“what do you mean?” you ask.
“nobody believes you’re just friends.”
--
“i’ve literally-” your declaration is interrupted by a loud hiccup, “never been drunk in my life.”
“me either.” rafe says, pulling you onto his lap, head lolling forward against the back of your neck, pressing his lips to the skin there that’s exposed by your bikini.
“you guys went ham.” topper laughs from the other side of the boat, also now just chilling on the sofas after the boat was brought back to the dock and most of the people got off, signaling the end of the party.
“i don’t think i can move.” you manage to slur out, turning to sit sideways on rafes lap so you can rest your head against his shoulder.
“you’re more than welcome to sleep on the yacht.” topper says, “my parents won’t be back until monday.” “mmkay.” you say, tracing your fingers over rafes jaw. “thanks top.” rafe looks down at you, an unfamiliar emotion in his eyes, one he usually hides from you. it makes you sit up straight, turning to fully face him now, straddling his lap.
“kiss me.” you say, taking his cheeks into your hand and squeezing them slightly, even as your head spins from the amount of alcohol you’ve taken in over the course of the evening.
“yeah.” rafe nods, pulling you tight against him, keeping his hands on your waist as your mouths connect in a sloppy, messy drunk kiss.
“hey, hey.” topper is suddenly pulling you guys apart. “you’re way too drunk for kissing.” he’s thankful that he opted to drive the boat, meaning that he’s not as insanely drunk as you two are.
“n-no.” rafe says, trying to go to push topper away, but his arm falls before he can even raise it halfway up.
“let me kiss rafe, top, please, i love him so much.” you say, pushing your mouth back against rafes,
“no, you’re best friends, remember!” topper says, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you off of rafes lap, ignoring your whines at being separated. “now, y/n, you come with me and you can take the main bedroom, rafe can sleep on the couch.” “noo, i want rafe, i want him.” you whine, but the minute your head hits the pillow, you’re out like a light.
you and rafe don’t remember anything from after the party, and topper decides not to tell you about the drunken kiss, not wanting you to feel regret.
--
“what do you want?” rafe asks, knowing you don’t like to order and prefer him to do it.
your hands are firmly grasped together as your eyes look over the options. “umm, two scoops of chocolate chip cookie dough.” you say.
“in a bowl? with sprinkles?” rafe asks, knowing that’s usually what you prefer.
“mhm.” you nod, “thanks rafey.”
you let him order his own ice cream and then your own, swaying your hands between your bodies.
“you two are cute together, how long have you been together?” the woman behind the counter asks.
“oh no.” rafe laughs, handing over the cash for the ice cream. “we’re just friends.”
the womans eyes drop to your conjoined hands, and you realize how it looks, letting your hand open and drop away from rafes.
“suuure.” the woman nods, stepping away from the counter to prepare your ice cream.
--
you watch in silent anger as rafe dances with the girl, whose name you think is stephanie but you can’t be sure.
“just go over there, he’s just having fun with her, he only has eyes for you.” topper says, seeing the sad look on your face.
“what? no.” you shake your head, forcing a laugh out. “i’m fine.” “you certainly don’t look fine. you look heartbroken.” topper says.
“come on, you know he’s my best friend.” you say, forcing your eyes away from the dance floor to look at topper.
“dance with me then.” topper stands up, offering you his hand. “just for fun, i know you don’t have feelings for me.”
you smile at your friend, often forgetting that while you and rafe are extremely close and have been for years, that topper was also there with you for a lot of the time.
“okay.” you place your hand in his, letting him pull you off your seat and towards the edge of where everyone is dancing. you move stiffly at first, unused to the feeling of someone other than rafe touching you, but eventually you get into the rhythm, laughing as topper twirls you around.
you’re not even really dancing to the beat of the song, just letting topper move you as he pleases. you let yourself get lost under the colorful lights, your hands coming up to make movements in the air as toppers hands grip your waist, moving his body behind yours.
you close your eyes and grind your hips back against his, until you’re suddenly pulled away, making your eyes snap open.
“rafe!” you shout as rafe holds you against his body, shoving topper away from you. “what are you doing?”
“it’s fine, y/n.” topper says, knowing the look of jealousy in rafes eyes.
“no, it’s not fine.” you cross your arms, stepping away from rafe. “don’t be mean to top, you can’t get upset that he’s dancing with me when you’re off with another girl.” you turn and walk away from rafe, knowing he’s on your heels as you head up to his room.
“y/n!” he shouts, slamming the door shut behind you.
“no, it’s not fair.” you say, flopping down on his bed that you practically treat like your own. “it’s not fair that you get to go have fun, hook up with girls, but the second i even dance with our friend, you pull me away?”
rafe sits down on the edge of the bed, his back to you. “you’re right.”
“i am?” you ask, surprised that rafe conceded so quickly.
“it’s not fair that i get jealous but don’t expect you to be.” rafe moves so he’s laying down next to you, face to face.
“there’s nothing to be jealous of anyways, rafe.” you say, placing your hand on his face, stroking your fingers over the smooth plans of his cheek. “i was just having fun with top, he was making me feel better because i was upset watching you with a different girl.” rafe nods, pulling you in tight to his body. you sigh softly at being in his hold, knowing you’re the one at the end of the day who gets to be with him.
“i love you.” rafe suddenly says. he’s said it before, a million times, but you can tell that this time is different.
“rafe-”
“no, i love you. let me say it.” rafe says, opening his mouth to talk more but your ears seem to stop working, tuning him out as your mind starts to race. years of friendship, years of being by each other's side.
“i-i…” you shake your head, jumping out of bed and running down the stairs, out of the house.
--
“it’s been an entire week since you’ve seen rafe, why don’t i call him and have him come over?” your mom asks, rubbing your head as you pull the covers up even further. you have barely gotten out of bed since rafes confession, ignoring all the times he’s texted and called you.
“mom, he’s the problem.” you groan. “i don’t want to see him.” “mmm.” your mom hums.
“please, just let me sleep. i’m tired.” you say. you haven’t been able to sleep properly, like your body knows that something is wrong, that the balance is off.
“okay, honey.” your mom drops a kiss to your forehead, closing the door behind her when she leaves.
--
“he’s never missed a family dinner.” you hear your dad whisper to your mom.
“i didn’t invite him.” you say, making them jump, not realizing that you were listening from your seat in the dining room.
“he doesn’t need an invitation.” your mom says, returning to stirring the pot.
“mom, stop-” you pause when you hear a knock at your door. a familiar knock, a pattern you recognize instantly.
your mom gives you a pointed look. “you let him in or i do.”
your hands are shaking as you head toward the front door, opening it to reveal rafe standing there, hands in his pockets. “i’m sorry.” rafe says, eyes on the ground. “i shouldn’t have said anything.” you step out onto the porch, closing the door behind you so your parents can’t eavesdrop. “aren’t you scared?” you ask, making rafe blink up at you.
“aren’t you scared that we might not work? we’ve been friends since we were in kindergarten. what if we throw all of that away be-because we try- i don’t know rafe!”
“shh.” rafe says, taking your face in his hands. “you’re overthinking it baby.”
you shake your head in confusion, trying to turn away, but rafe pushes you against the wall, forcing you to keep your eyes on him. “i love you. and you love me, i know it.”
your traitorous eyes drop to his lips, how close they are to your own. “i do love you.” you whisper, and that’s all rafe needs to hear as he presses your lips together. you melt into the kiss, letting rafe deepen it, his hands keeping your head in place while yours clutch at his shirt, not letting him pull away, not after wanting this for so long.
“i love you.” rafe whispers against your lips, giving you another kiss.
“i love you too.” you say with a giggle, letting rafe lift you and spin you in a circle.
“oh my god, wait until your parents find out.” rafe opens the door, tugging you inside. you follow him happily, head dizzy with love.
“rafe!” your mom says happily, both of your parents eyes looking at the way you’re wrapped around each other.
instead of speaking, rafe drops his head and presses his lips against yours, to the backdrop of your parents cheers.
--
“oh topper.” you sing as you skip to sit between him and rafe.
“hey, y/n.” he says, giving you a friendly smile.
“i have something to tell you.” you say, linking your hand with rafe. topper looks at you expectantly, waiting for you to speak. you just raised your joined hands with rafe and give it a shake, hoping he gets the message.
“what?” topper asks.
you laugh, obviously holding hands too much with rafe before you starting dating that it’s nothing telling to topper, so you turn and bring your knee over to the other side of rafes lap, smashing your lips together in a kiss. you pull away after a second to look at topper, “oh, thank god you’re not drunk this time.” he says, pressing a hand against his chest.
“wait, what?” you are rafe say in unison.

”You’re safe, pet.” | TF 141 x omega!reader
OKAYYY BEAR WITH ME! I just released a pt2 of the ghoap post I made but I could not help but write this one. It’s fluff and angst and the same time.
PT2 IS OUT!!! https://www.tumblr.com/crunchyroaches27/779527966157897728/pt2-of-omegareader-x-141?source=share
omega!reader is rescued from a Omega trafficking ring by TF141
BACKGROUND INFO
everyone has lil tails and ears (🥺) + Omegaverse AU + they/them pronouns used; Gender neutral + Alphas have pointed canines for marking
there are more characters, like Alejandro but he doesn’t play too much of a major role. He doesn’t deserve to be here
Price is the pack leader. He is an Alpha— the most dominant out of his other mates. His word is absolute law. He likes to regularly scent his pack, it makes him feel reassured that his pack is safe. Price is essentially their cigarette-smoking dad
Ghost is next in line in this chain of command, he is also an Alpha. He is more impulsive than the others and often has to have many restraints, leading to him often being aloof and angsty. Soap likes Ghost, but Ghost is too fucking slow
Gaz is third in line, also an Alpha like the ones before him. He is cool and collected, yet he also is a bit of a rebel— here and there he will challenge Price’s authority and be snarky
And finally, Soap. Poor Soap is at the bottom, being a Beta. Despite not being an Omega, he still carries out monotonous tasks. As the “peacemaker” of his pack, he ensures that all is well between them. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a jackass sometimes. His body scent is fainter, but his scenting abilities are better than the rest bc he is a Beta
In this cruel world made up of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas, there is bound to be danger lurking in every dark alley, every shady nightclub. Over the course of three days, you had seen and felt things you thought would never end. You were used and passed along like a joint. One particular Alpha paid a good fortune for you, and you found yourself dressed in skimpy clothes and drugged with aphrodisiacs. Your pheromones leaked like a pipe. There’s no hope. Why even bother? you thought angstily as you were transported to a new location.
You’d heard of the tragic trafficking of Omegas, but you didn’t expect to experience it firsthand. Omegas have to know every tactic to defend themselves. Your ears drooped in disgust and a sort of disbelief as your body began to enter some sort of stupor; the drugs meant to make you extremely docile and languid were starting to kick in. The sudden sensation of a sharp turn and the screech of wheels snapped you out from your haze. Instead of hearing the usual excited chatter, you heard gunshots. You were too lethargic to even move, so you passed out in your seat. When you awoke, four men surrounded you; three Alphas and one Beta.
You found yourself on a small cot. Three Alphas and one Beta were sniffing your pheromones to deduce your mental, physical, and emotional state. “Aye, Omega’s ‘woken up,” the Beta with the warhawk mumbled. The bearded Alpha hummed. “Hmm. Let’s start with introductions. What’s your name, Omega?” Another Alpha, clad in a skull mask, trilled, seemingly pleased at your arousal (arousal as in the waking up sense!!). “You’re safe, pet. We don’t bite, at least, not unless you want us to.” He jibed with a British lilt once he sensed your fear. His dark-skinned pack mate snorted, rolling his eyes. You could smell he was an Alpha, too.
All of their ears were perked high in expectation, their eyes watching your every move, sniffing every pheromone released into the already stuffy air. “Y/N,” your response made them nod in acknowledgment. “Mm, ‘Kay. We already knew that. Jus’ wanted to see if we got the right person.” The bearded Alpha sighed before continuing. “Well, I’m Price. This ‘ere is Ghost, Gaz on my right, and Soap’s the one in front of ya.” Soap promptly bent down and twinkled at you, his tail wagging. You didn’t even have to ask for their ranks, you could smell it in the bodily fragrances they released— that applied for them too. You could tell that Price, Ghost and Gaz were all Alphas, while Soap was a Beta.
You wondered how they weren't dying to breed you, your pheromones were uncapped and flowing out into the air freely. They must be taking some kick ass suppressors, you surmised. You were, for the lack of better words, glad they weren’t groping your body ravenously. Yet, despite their composed demeanors, glints of wolfish desires were expressed through their eyes. Their tails were rigid and raised.
“We saved you from that trafficking ring— shouldn’t you be more grateful?” Ghost earned himself an elbow pinch from Price. Ghost lowered his ears and grumbled as Gaz snickered. “Omega’s pumped full of drugs. Damnit, they’re barely alive,” Price grunted, his brows knitted— not in regards to Ghost— but at your deplorable condition. “Don’t expect much yet.”
“Soap, call in exfil, we need to go back to base. We need to get this Omega treated.” At Price’s order, Soap’s ears flicked and he soon got to work. “Don’t worry, Omega,” Price murmured, his thick fingers tracing circles on your sunken-in cheeks. He practically melted at the sigh you soughed. “You’re safe, pet.”
One half of you loved his touch, the Omega side that constantly craved the touch and comfort of an Alpha; the other half wanted to flinch back and snarl at it. You’d been touched, and not in a nice way— you didn’t want to bear that again. Yet because Price’s touch was refreshingly compassionate, the former side won.
At the hospital
When you arrived at the base, you were stirred awake by a splitting headache, an after effect of the narcotics. Your vision was bleary but you could tell that you were in an infirmary— and that you were not alone, either.
Ghost and Soap were seated on the chairs adjacent to your little mattress. Their tails were curled curled together as they waited for your awakening. When you finally announced it by clearing your throat, both of their ears shot up in attention and whipped their heads around to face you.
Soap was the first one to detach from the tail-curling and walk towards you, a gentle concern painted onto his face. “Ye feelin’ any better, Omega?” He chuckled at your reply, a tired no. His hands neared to replace the tape covering your scent glands, but then he stopped, seemingly remembering his manners. “Mind if I change ‘em? Not gonna try anything slick,” Soap asked, his icy blue eyes warming themselves for you.
“No,” you croaked. Slowly, he started to strip the tape off, clean your gland, and patch a new piece of tape on. Obviously, your scent had been carried in the air, exciting both Soap and Ghost. You knew Soap had a better nose than the rest. Soap’s pupils had dilated, making you a bit uneasy, “not gonna try anythin’,” he assured you again, smelling your distrust.
“Where’s Price and Gaz?” You questioned, hoping you remembered the name of the two Alphas right. “They’re in Mexico. With a friend; they should be back soon.” Ghost replied, rising to his feet to join Soap. They both assessed you with such focused attention— especially Ghost— making you feel like a piece of meat again. Your ears pinned themselves against your head.
Ghost’s inhaled deeply through his mouth, his breath trembling. He leaned closer towards you, his head tilting to try and whiff up any of your heady pheromones that still lingered in the air from the tape-replacing. Ghost's ears were angled towards you.
Ghost realized what he was doing and promptly gave you your space, as if to prove his salaciousness was kept under control. Or maybe he did it as an apology. "Sorry, just, you smell nice."
Soap hummed in what could be expressed as skepticism.
"Well, I think we should leave 'em to their own devices." Soap said, giving your hand a quick squeeze. He ordered for a glass of water to be delivered to your room before he left with his packmate.
You were left alone with your thoughts. You realized how much of a windfall this was. Out of hundreds of millions, you were saved. You had quite possibly the aid of God by your side. What an occurrence.
Sorry. Didn't really know how to end it, but pt2 will come out fs 😚

Dick Grayson V Gotham
Chapter 1 - AO3 - Constantine Jr. AU
There were a few minutes every morning, in the dark before dawn when his alarm hadn’t yet rung, where Dick Grayson felt most at peace. Despite the ache in his body the night out as Nightwing, he felt refreshed and content to just rest his eyes until his phone rang and it was time to get ready for the day.
Unfortunately, peace was never meant to last.
With a loud crash that definitely woke the neighbors, a little body kicked his door in. A switch was flipped and blinding light filled the room. Dick squinted in the general direction of the intruder. “Get up already!” Danny, his ward, snapped, rushing forward to rip the blankets off his bed. Dick let him. “There’s a case ready for us at the precinct!”
Dick checked his phone. No missed calls, and Danny didn’t have a phone yet. “Is this another psychic thing?” he asked.
Danny rolled his eyes. “If I say yes, will you get your ass out of bed already?”
“Language,” he chided absentmindedly, but still got out of bed. Danny glared up at him, still not satisfied, and dragged him to the bathroom with a surprising amount of strength for an 8-year-old. “Huh! You’re really in a hurry today.”
“No, you’re just super slow!”
Dick pulled back against Danny, slowing their progress considerably. “Oh, it’s the age!” Dick bemoaned, draping himself dramatically against the wall. “Now that I have a kid of my own to look after, the years have started to take their toll—Ow!”
Danny glared up at him like he hadn’t just kicked Dick in the shin. Brat. “Be dramatic in your own time! We have a case, Dick, we need to go!”
“Alright, alright, I’m going!” Dick complied and got in the bathroom, saying just before he closed the door, “Make sure you’re dressed in clothes you can afford to lose! I don’t want you to get blood on your favorite jeans again!” Danny shouted back his agreement and finally, Dick was alone.
As Dick washed his face and did his business, he contemplated how he got there. Honestly, he didn’t get what Bruce was always complaining about; this guardianship thing was going great! It was three weeks since he’d wrangled Danny home, but he’d been preparing for this for months, ever since he learned that the little brat trying to solve murders was homeless. It took months of classes, meetings with CPS, and interviews with friends and family, but Dick was now the proud foster parent of Danny Smith!
Fortunately, Dick had managed to convince Bruce that the foster license was precautionary, like if he needed to protect a minor. Which was what he was doing! So not technically a lie!
Although, Bruce had his hands full already. Some new crime lord had taken up the Joker’s old alias and it was driving the old man up the wall. Bruce had even asked Dick for help on the case last night! He’d said no, of course; he wasn’t just going to abandon Danny in Bludhaven for days while they hunted down Red Hood, and he wasn’t going to spring Danny on Bruce, nor Bruce on Danny. Danny was a flight risk and had expressed disdain for millionaires in the past, and Bruce was… worse than he used to be. Tim had managed to resurrect some of the dad Bruce used to be, but ever since Jason…
Well, it was good that they wouldn’t be seeing each other any time soon. Maybe by then Tim will have convinced Bruce to go to therapy!
Coming out of the bathroom, Dick started at Danny, dressed in jeans and a Digimon t-shirt, standing on the counter and getting Dick’s lunch bag off the shelf. He cocked an eyebrow. “What are you doing?”
“Packing breakfast to-go!” Danny said, jumping off the counter. Dick’s heart skipped a beat and he lunged forward, but Danny landed before Dick could reach him. He glared at Dick. “What are you doing?”
“Nothing.” He straightened up, playing it cool. He observed what Danny had laid out for breakfast as he started the coffee machine. A banana, two yogurts, and a handful of granola just poured out onto the table. “You know, you absorb more nutrients when you sit down and actually enjoy your food. And we don’t need lunch to-go. Remember, we talked about this? We have to wait for someone to report the crime first.”
“How do you know no one hasn’t yet?” Danny challenged.
“Have they?”
“...No. We could report the crime though,” Danny grumbled, but opened a yogurt cup.
They really couldn’t. If they reported the crime, they’d still have to wait for other officers and CSI before investigating, and that’s even if they were given the case! But more importantly… Dick was the only officer in the department who believed Danny could see ghosts.
Sure, Commissioner Gonzalez believed Danny, but that was just one woman. As much as he appreciated the Commissioner’s work helping get Danny off the streets and processing the paperwork to ensure the boy got recognition as an official BPD consultant… well, Dick knew she had ties to the gangs in town, he just couldn’t prove it. Just because she liked him and Danny doesn’t make her good.
The fact that she promoted him to detective was evidence enough. Dick was an amazing detective—like everyone trained by Batman—but normally you’d need a certain number of years and successful cases for that level of promotion, both of which Dick didn’t have. Hell, he’d only been working as a cop for two years! But Danny was only willing to work with Dick… so Dick became the youngest detective in the city.
The coffee machine sang a little robotic song and Dick placed a Nightwing mug under the spout just in time to catch the stream. As Danny finished his breakfast, Dick shooed him off to go brush his teeth and turned on the TV. He still had thirty minutes before they had to leave for work—
“—taking after his father!” Jack Rider’s voice rang through the apartment. Dick frowned; why was this trash on? “Although I have to say, I don’t think anyone ever expected Richard Grayson to adopt a child of his own!”
Dick froze. What? No, he’d worked so hard to ensure that no one would find out—
A picture flashed on screen of Dick and Danny. Dick recognized it immediately; he’d taken Danny out to eat to celebrate Danny officially becoming his foster child. But that was weeks ago! They’d been sitting on the story for that long?
They didn’t even bother to blur Danny’s face.
“Now, Jack,” the co-host chided, “Let’s not get too hasty. Our source at Bludhaven PD—who will be unnamed to protect their privacy—said it was only a foster, not an adoption.”
Jack waved her concern away. “Yes, a foster. For now. Don’t you remember how long Richard was Brucie’s ward? Sure, the kid might only be a foster for now, but with this family, adoption is always on the table!”
Turning away from the TV, Dick checked their security cameras on his phone. When he’d first moved in, Babs had hacked into all the cameras in the apartment, piggy-backing off their feeds. There, outside the building’s main entrance, were multiple reporters. Some had even gotten into the building, although their aimless wandering told him that their apartment number hadn’t been leaked yet.
“Still, another street kid in the family,” Jack continued to muse. “That’s two now for the Waynes, right? Are they going to take off with an entire orphanage next?”
“Dick?”
He locked eyes with Danny, who gave the TV a worried look. But Danny didn’t get worried; he was a cocky, grumpy brat who’d given Dick a heart attack when he dared a gang member to shoot him in the face. But a news story scared him?
Smart kid. Dick was feeling scared too. So, he made the executive decision.
Dick knelt down to Danny’s height, gently grasping his shoulders. “Okay. Here’s what we’re going to do. I’m going to call out of work—”
“But Mrs. Bennett’s murder!” came the immediate protest.
Dick took note of the name, but held up a hand to stop him. “I know, I know. But it’s not safe for us to go to the precinct right now.” Someone at BPD had told the reporters about them. One of his colleagues, pissed that he’d gotten his promotion unfairly? Someone who hated that a little kid solved murders better than them? Or anyone looking to make a quick buck? The possibilities were endless.
He continued, “Commissioner Gonzalez will understand and help us consult with the case from online, okay? We’ll get sent pictures of the crime scene and you can talk to Mrs. Bennett and we’ll consult from Gotham just to be safe.” He had some PTO he could use, right? If not… Gonzalez could just fire him. He’d already known his co-workers were corrupt assholes, but to willingly put a child in danger was a step too far. If Gonzalez wanted to keep Dick—and therefore, Danny—she’d better clean house.
Danny made a face. “Why Gotham?”
“That’s where my family lives! While we wait for the story to die down, I’ll introduce you to my grandfather, Alfred, and my brother Tim, and my friend, Barbra! I’ll show you around to all the fun spots, it’ll be fun! So go get packed, buddy.”
Hesitating in the doorway, Danny said, “They won’t listen to me. The other officers aren’t like you.”
“They will listen to you. I’ll make them,” Dick promised. He’d gathered enough blackmail on his fellow detectives to force the issue, if needs be. He ruffled Danny’s hair. “Don’t worry, Danny. It’ll just be for a week or two and then everything will be back to normal. I promise.”
Danny glared at him, batting his hand away. “I’ll keep you to that promise, old man.”
As Danny retreated to his room—Dick’s former workout room—to pack, Dick went to his own, closing and locking the door behind him. The call to Gonzalez went about as well as he was expecting: first her anger at him taking time off, then his anger about being sold out to the media, then Gonzalez swearing as she found the news online, until finally agreement.
As they talked, Dick methodically packed away his Nightwing gear. After last night, where a slime meta had unceremoniously caked his suit in gunk that would not come out, he had two functioning suits: his back-up and his original that he kept for sentimental value. He packed all three, along with his gear. Maybe Alfred would be able to get the gunk out? But he couldn’t leave his things here. Their location was already compromised. If reporters decided the risk was worth it, they could break into his apartment and turn the whole place upside down looking for a story.
So, Dick had to take the story with him.
With all his gear packed, there was little room for personal belongings, so he did the best he could and only took the important things. His room at the manor still had a few changes of clothes. Fortunately Danny wasn’t a nosy kid, otherwise he’d never be able to get away with carrying his Nightwing gear in a normal duffel bag like this.
Now, the hard part.
The phone rang three times before it was picked up. “Master Richard.” Alfred’s icy tone made him wince. Oh, he already knew. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Hey, Alfie…” Dick rubbed the back of his neck. “I just wanted to say that I decided I can help Bruce on that Red Hood case after all?”
“I see.” No matter how angry Alfred was, he was frighteningly polite. “And shall I prepare a second bedroom for your ward?”
Dick winced. “That would be great, Alfred. Thank you.”
“Then I will see you soon. And please inform the young master that I look forward to meeting him when you both arrive.”
“I’ll tell him. He’s been looking forward to meeting you; I’ve been talking up your cooking for months now.”
“Months?” Oh no. “How kind of you, Master Grayson.” It got worse. Alfred was pissed now. Why did he have to say months? It wasn’t like Dick had intentionally hidden Danny from his family; he was just hiding him from Bruce! He wanted some privacy and to figure things out himself! But now Alfie was mad and suddenly that privacy didn’t seem so important anymore. “Shall I assume you’ll be arriving soon then?”
“In around an hour.” Leaving his room, he checked on Danny. He was trying to back everything he owned into the suitcase Dick had bought him. “Maybe a little longer? I’ll call when we’re ten minutes away.”
“Then I will see you soon, Master Grayson.”

And We Danced
Length: 1.1k words
Genre: Angst
Nmixx Lily x Male Reader
(Author's Note: Wrote this for a prompt thingy hosted by @mintwithchoco! Inspired by this really pretty song, do give it a listen if you have the chance :])
【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】★【☆】
“...and then he just brushes past me and immediately gets on his game!” Lily huffs, pacing around your room. “Like, I get that he’s tired and all that, but at least a ‘Hi’ would be nice!”
A song you don’t recognize blasts from your speaker, fiery and tumultuous to mimic the current emotions of your friend. With how often she comes over to your place to rant about her boyfriend, it’s a wonder how she doesn’t have a consistent playlist.
“What do you think? Am I just overreacting?” she asks, slumping onto your mattress.
You shake your head. “Not at all.”
“Really? Because if I’m being crazy, I need you to tell me.”
“I know when you’re being crazy, but this isn’t one of those times.”
Lily chuckles before scooting next to you and resting her head on your shoulder. You swallow down the thoughts and words that threaten to burst from your chest, potentially ruining this good thing that you have. Things are fine. Calm down.
“What should I do now?” she asks, her words floating through the open air between the transition of songs. The next song brings in slow, melancholic piano chords paired with a heartbreaking story of unrequited love. Lily’s head sinks deeper into your shoulder like the weight of the lyrics is pulling her down and you’re her only means of support.
You should break up with him.
“You should talk to him,” you say, breathing steadily. “You said that this started happening recently, right? Maybe something happened to him and he just hasn’t told you yet. Most guys are stupid and don’t like talking about their feelings and all that mushy stuff.”
“Talk to him. Right,” she sighs. “You make it sound so simple.”
You shrug. “Things are always more difficult than they seem. It really depends on him for this to work out. You’re doing the best you can, and if he can’t see that then… maybe you should—”
Lily’s phone buzzes from across the room, prompting her to jump towards it with the desperation of a lost puppy finding its owner. Her warmth is stripped away from you in an instant, and the impending cold becomes a grim reminder that it was never yours in the first place.
Her expression immediately sours as she checks the notification.
“Is something wrong?” you ask, worried.
“No.” Lily’s shoulders slump as she tosses her phone back on your desk with a resounding thud. “Bae just wants me to get her some ice cream on the way home.”
You fail to stifle a chuckle, earning an icy glare from those perfectly round eyes.
“I feel like I’m going insane.” She throws up her hands in exasperation. “What if I just end it all and jump off a cliff?”
“You definitely shouldn’t do that. How else will Bae get her ice cream?” you quip.
“Ha ha, very funny.”
The last bit of sunlight fades past the edge of your window just as the music dies down to give way to the next song. From the first note, you’re left reeling as memories of thumping heartbeats and unattainable closeness flood your mind like a tsunami. Flashing lights, the linoleum scent of the gym floors, your dad’s tie that your mom made you wear, every single excruciating detail of that night comes crashing down in an instant.
The night you cherish deeply, yet regret the most.
“Oh. My. God!” Lily yanks your arm, nearly pulling it out of its socket from sheer excitement. “Get up!”
“W-what?”
“Do you not remember this song!?”
“I-I, uh…” Of course you remember it. There hasn’t been a day that’s passed where you don’t think of what that damned song entails.
“Sophomore year homecoming! We slow danced to this song together! How could you forget that!?” She pouts at you, and it takes every facial muscle you have not to immediately burst out into the dumbest smile.
Without hesitation, Lily pulls your arms around her waist and intertwines her fingers behind your neck, and suddenly, you forget how to breathe, how to think, how to function like a regular human being.
“I-I think I remember this song,” you stutter, not quite meeting her eyes.
You find yourself being transported back to that sophomore dance as the two of you sway to the beats of the music. Lily rests her head on your chest just as she did back then, and you wonder if she can hear your heartbeat as it races from the proximity. You wonder if she can hear your thoughts, what she would think about how every corner of your mind is occupied by her. You wonder what would’ve happened if you had done something, anything differently that night, if a couple words were the difference between dancing here as lovers or as reminiscing friends.
Say something. This is your only chance. After this, she’ll be gone forever.
Yet, just like that night so many years ago, you stand quietly like a fool, damning yourself to an eternity of forever staying out of her reach.
“That was fun,” Lily giggles as she steps away from you, her fingers lingering in between yours. “I should probably head back though, it’s getting kinda late.”
“Um, yeah, sure.” Regretfully, you let go of her hands and walk her to the front door, trying to not let your mess of emotions reveal itself in your expression.
“Maybe we can hang out again tomorrow! If you’re not busy of course.”
“I’ll have to check my schedule, but yeah, I would like that.” Of course you don’t have anything planned for tomorrow. Even if you did, you’d move Heaven and Earth just to spend another moment with her.
“Alright, I’ll see you tomorrow!” Lily pulls you into a hug like she always does and you fight off every urge screaming at you to keep her close.
“Yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Long after the door shuts behind her, all you can do is stand there, motionless, like life suddenly stops mattering when she’s not around. This is all your fault, really. It shouldn’t be a surprise that guys would line up for an inkling of a chance with her; in fact, you could fill up entire libraries with books describing how perfect Lily is in every single way, forever pondering how a single glance can fill you up with so much joy and sorrow that it threatens to drown you. You had more than a decade head start, you should’ve been the first one in line.
And yet, your own cowardice got in the way.
Again. And again. And again.
That song plays in your head once more, its melody haunting yet comforting. In a perfect world, the two of you would be able to dance all night to a song that never stops.

It Happened in Texas
Aaron Hotchner x Fem Reader ❤︎
Chapter 3: You’re not trying to get fired - it’s just raw talent
series masterlist
A/N: The case in this chapter is based on s4e2 where Hotch ignores the doctors orders and goes straight to work after tearing his eardrum 🤡
tags: minor grovelling, slow burn. Hotch needs a hug. Some canon typical violence and a few uses of y/n. Sorry for any typos.
Word count: 2.8k
Enjoy! 🤍
❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎
You are so fired.
Strauss is getting impatient with your fruitless reports. Hotch and you are not on great terms. In fact, since Jack’s party, he’s been avoiding you like the plague. He isn’t ignoring you or glaring at you anymore, but for some reason, he now never pairs himself up with you and keeps his emails to you even shorter than before. He also refuses to talk to you when Jack comes to visit and spends all his time at your desk. It had taken you months and a 5 year old to give you the courage to make any friends on the team. So why are you standing here, scolding your boss? You must have an innate talent for getting fired.
“Hotch. If you think that never hearing Jack say I love you again, or never hearing him laugh again is worth getting back in the field straight away, I’ll think you’re insane, but I’ll never bring it up again. However, I don’t think you’re willing to tell your son his dad can’t hear him anymore because he wasn’t taking care of himself”.
You take a deep breath, and add for good measure,
“Sir”.
Hotch stares at you. You are not a confrontational person (at least with your colleagues). And right now you were so out of line. While everyone else might have warmed up to you, you and Hotch aren’t exactly friends. But you had gotten to know Jack, who had been the catalyst to you becoming friends with the team. He’s probably the only reason that you don’t hate your job now. You love that kid. And after seeing Hotch clutch his ears at the graveyard and overhearing him ignore Morgan when asked if he was cleared to fly, you felt you needed to say something. Clearly no one else was going to.
But why wasn’t Hotch saying anything? You shuffle your feet and try not to think about your face heating up from embarrassment. Where was the person from 30 seconds ago who was basically scolding her boss? Your resolve had completely evaporated. And now you were nervous. Which was a very bad thing to be in front of a profiler.
“I know that you’re my boss and we aren’t exactly friends, but I’m saying this as a…”, what were you exactly? An overeager people pleaser who had just gotten the team to get used to working with you. And an idiot who is currently screwing up her chances of staying employed at the one job you had left. “As a person who respects you a lot”, you decide on. This is definitely true. He was a good person, even if he clearly didn’t like you. He might be avoiding you, but he’s still polite. And if he didn’t say something soon, you were going to say something stupid.
“You’re also the best boss I’ve ever had, so if you permanently lose your hearing and have to be taken out of the field, that would suck for me too”, you laugh nervously.
Damn it, you were already in saying stupid things territory. Why wasn’t he saying anything? Oh god, what if your rant was hurting his ears? You start whispering.
“Are you okay? Am I being too loud? I’m sorry, I’m just going to shut up”, you say softly. He’s still staring.
“I should go now”, you mumble and promptly run away, immediately making your way to the precinct bathroom and locking yourself in a stall. Why did you say anything? The rest of the team had just left him alone, but you were never a fan of turning a blind eye to people’s problems. It just didn’t seem right. Despite the fact that the other team members are clearly each other’s family, you are technically just a coworker. So you’ve definitely overstepped, but it just didn’t seem right to let it happen. To Jack. Not Hotch. Though technically you did care about Hotch too. As a friend. Probably.
“Hey, you okay in there?”
You startle from your thoughts and see Emily’s shoes from under the stall. You quickly shake yourself together and flush the toilet you clearly haven’t used before coming out.
“Yeah? Am I not allowed to pee?”, you laugh, washing your hands. Emily frowns, but knows better than to press. She might have seen you run out of a precinct conference room you’d been alone with Hotch in, but you’re not going to tell her why and she doesn’t overstep boundaries. She pretends to believe you and moves the conversation to the case. The team has figured out who the unsub is and are about to raid her house. You both leave the bathroom and move towards the SUVs with everyone else. Everyone except Hotch.
“We gotta go. Where the hell’s Hotch?”, Derek asks.
“He was on the phone with Strauss, said he wanted us to go without him”, Rossi says, walking to the passenger seat. “Let’s go”.
Derek shrugs his shoulders and everyone piles into the cars. You feel your stomach drop. Technically you did just tell your superior off. Was he going to report you for insubordination? Maybe he had had enough and was finally telling Strauss to transfer you. He hadn’t wanted you on the team in the first place. If you get fired from the BAU you’ll probably have to leave the FBI. You shake your head. Whatever happens, the case comes first. You need to stop the unsub before she hurts anyone else.
You try to forget about your earlier conversation with Hotch and focus on the case. The unsub’s apartment is empty, but Rossi finds her next target, Faye Landreaux, in her journal. You all drive to her house and Emily distracts the unsub while Morgan sneaks Faye outside. She’s trembling like a leaf and doesn’t respond when you ask if she’s okay, so you guide her to a paramedic to make sure she hasn’t gotten any injuries. Technically your priority right now should be the unsub, but the entire police department and 4 FBI agents have a gun pointed at her and Faye is completely alone. You don’t feel right leaving her yet, so once she’s been looked at, you try to talk to her when you hear a gunshot from behind you. Faye cries out and you let her know she’s okay. The sheriff has shot the unsub. It’s over. A police officer the victim knows starts talking to her so you move back to the team. Emily pulls back the unsub’s shirt to reveal that she had maimed herself to become the “Angel Maker’s” last victim. You fail to not feel nauseous.
It’s late, so you’re all staying the night in Ohio. On the drive, everyone’s talking about how early they have to get up tomorrow. You look out the window and can’t stop thinking about love and what it does to people. What it did to Chloe Kelcher. To all of the “Angel Maker’s” fans. Female unsubs that hurt other women always bothers you more than other cases. Emily notices your silence.
“You okay?”, she asks quietly.
“Just tired”, you smile. If she notices it doesn’t reach your eyes, she doesn’t mention it. She nudges her knee against yours - an ‘I’m here if you need me’ without words.
You nudge her back - ‘thanks. I know’. She smiles. You really are tired though - it’s 2am because the unsub liked attacking at night - and you stifle a yawn. You’re about to fall asleep when the car abruptly stops, signalling your arrival.
It’s a cute inn, the owner offered you all free rooms for the night as a thanks for capturing the unsub. Everyone piles out, eager to go to bed. You’re suddenly awake though when you see who’s in the lobby handing out keys - Hotch. He’s looking straight at you. Everyone grabs their keys and turns in for the night. If anyone notices you and Hotch lag behind, they don’t say. He gestures to a corner with some armchairs.
“Can we talk for a minute?”
You nod, slowly taking a seat. You’re too afraid to speak and keep your eyes on the ground. Was he going to fire you now? In some inn in rural Ohio?
“Thank you.”
What?
You snap your head up to meet his gaze.
“I called Strauss earlier to let her know I’m taking 2 weeks off from the field. You were right earlier. What I’m doing isn’t fair to the team or to Jack. I want to apologise for putting you in a position where you felt you needed to tell your boss that he was being stupid. That shouldn’t have to be your responsibility.”
He looks straight into your eyes and you can see the sincerity flooded in his.
“I’ll be taking a car back to Quantico. I shouldn’t have gotten on a plane at all in my condition. You don’t have to worry about me.” He takes a breath. “And I appreciate you telling me what I needed to hear. Even if you shouldn’t have had to”, he adds.
You don’t know what to say, so you say the first thing that pops into your brain.
“I’m not fired?”
Aaron looks incredibly guilty.
“You thought I was going to fire you?”
You nod, still unable to form coherent thoughts in your relief.
“No you are definitely not fired. I’m sorry for making you feel like your job was on the line”, he says and feels even guiltier at the obvious release of tension in your shoulders. “If anything I should be fired for endangering you all with my inability to make sound decisions”, he sighs. “When you’re the boss, people become too afraid to tell you that you’re wrong. And sometimes I forget that I can be”.
You try to find the right words. “I don’t think being worried about people getting hurt when you’re not working is wrong”, you say. “But I’m glad you’re taking care of yourself. And thank you for apologising.”
Aaron nods at this, searching your eyes for something. He seems to be pleased with what he finds and stands up. You follow suit, and the both of you start to walk towards your rooms. You lapse into silence as you walk up the stairs until Hotch clears his throat.
“Well, when someone tells you that they respect you but you’re being insane, you rethink your priorities a little”, he chuckles, trying to break the ice.
You feel your entire face grow warm - you had forgotten that you had called him that.
“Sorry”, you mumble.
He stops abruptly and you turn to look at him.
“Please don’t ever apologise for what you said to me today.”
His gaze bores into you as if to try to make you understand. No wonder he has the most confessions from unsubs in interrogations. His stare is a little lethal. Your knees feel a little weak.
“Sorry for saying sorry?”, you manage.
He raises a brow at you.
“Ok. Then I’m not sorry?”, you offer. He smiles at this.
“Good. Because I’m very grateful it happened.”
You beam.
“I’m glad you think so.”
“I do.”
You reach your room first. You move to unlock your door and he waits to make sure you get inside safety. Your hand stills on the doorknob and you turn around.
“I hope you know that it’s still true.”
He looks confused.
“I still respect you. And now I respect you for being able to step back. And for apologising. Maybe it doesn’t mean a lot coming from me, but I think you’re a great boss and a great dad. Jack is very lucky.” You meet his eyes so he knows you mean it. “You’re a good person, Hotch.”
A lump forms in Aaron’s throat. He doesn’t know how to tell you how much your words mean to him. He wishes, not for the first time in his life, that he was better at communicating his feelings. He shakes his head.
“It does mean a lot. I respect you too, Y/N.”He pauses, as if trying to find the perfect words. “You’re always looking at the good in people. Jack loves you. And you’re kind, not just with the team. When we catch unsubs you always make sure to take care of victims.”
Your eyes widen. You hadn’t known that he’d noticed.
“You’re smart, loyal, empathetic. I know that these last few months have been… unpleasant for you. And I’m sorry for my part in that. But I’m proud to have you on our team. I know that this morning you were just doing what was right, and earlier you said we aren’t friends, but you were the friend I needed today. So thank you.”
You blink, trying not to well up at his words. You don’t know if anyone’s ever said something like that to you. Afraid you might cry if you speak, you give him a hug. It’s quick, nothing intimate, but it feels righter than words in this moment. You take a step back.
“So we’re friends?”, you ask, opening the door to your room. He looks at you thoughtfully.
“I’d like to think so”, he smiles softly. You give him a smile back.
“Good night, Hotch.”
“Good night, Y/N.”
You sleep well that night for the first time in a while.
——
The next morning, you’re quiet as Hotch tells everyone he’s driving back to Quantico instead of taking the jet. You offer to take the drive with him, which surprises yourself just as much as the team. While you had gotten closer with the rest of the team in the last month, you and Hotch aren’t really close enough for you to voluntarily spend 7 hours in a car together. You’re not exactly sure why you offered either.
You’re too busy trying to get everyone on board that you all miss Rossi’s barely hidden glee at this unexpected development in your relationship.
“It’ll be fun!”, you say excitedly.
“I love you, but 7 hours is crazy baby girl”
“Long car trips make me nauseous. In fact there’s a correlation between-”
“Yeah no, the baby makes me carsick.”
“The thought of being trapped in a car for 7 hours makes me sick”
You’re a little sad because a group road trip would be fun, and it would help to have a buffer between you and Hotch, but it is unfair to force everyone into something they’re uncomfortable with, so you give everyone a hug goodbye before sliding into the passenger seat beside Hotch. You can almost feel him overthinking.
“You don’t have to do this”, he says.
“I know. I want to”, you tell him. Surprisingly, this is true.
He stares at you.
“It’s 7 hours”
“It’ll be longer if you keep arguing with me”, you shrug.
He stares at you some more.
“I’m not leaving you to do this alone. Plus 7 hours isn’t that long if you’re with a friend”
He smiles at this.
“A friend?”
“Unless you’re taking back what you said last night?”, you ask tentatively. Had he just been reacting to what you said to him? What if-
“No. I meant everything I said”, he says firmly, looking directly at you to make sure you know he’s serious. His gaze that felt intimidating last night, now somehow makes you feel calm. But it might take a while before you can maintain eye contact with him. You turn to face the road.
“Good. Now drive, or I’ll call Reid and ask him to explain the statistics of car crashes in Ohio”, you tease. His eyes crinkle in amusement.
“Driving right now”.
You grin and start looking at your CD options.
“If I’m your friend does this mean I get to choose where we eat lunch?”, he asks.
You roll your eyes.
“You didn’t let me drive so I’m picking lunch.”
“Yes ma’am”.
Bonus scene:
“They’re driving here together from Ohio? Doesn’t Hotch hate her?”, Penelope asks through the screen.
“I don’t think he hates her. Don’t you remember what it was like when I first joined?”, Emily asks the team.
“We never hated you! Except maybe Spencer. But that was a whole other thing. I just don’t get why he still doesn’t like her. She’s so sweet”, Penelope pouts.
“He didn’t tell her no, so that’s an improvement”, Derek reasons.
“I didn’t hate Emily!”, Spencer scoffs.
Emily raises an eyebrow at him which causes him to sputter.
“Well ok I wasn’t very nice to you at first. But it wasn’t because I hated you”, he tries to explain. Emily mouths a quick “I know” to let him know she’s joking.
“I don’t think Hotch has ever hated Y/N”, Rossi chuckles. “He just needs time.”
Everyone nods. They all relied on him now, but Hotch was famous for being cold at first. Rossi grins at everyone missing his point. Being the only profiler on the team with relationship experience made for excellent entertainment. They’ll get it at some point, he thinks, sipping his drink.

Hurt so good.
Summary: After the reader makes a comment about missing Dean’s leather jacket and the old days, he takes matters into his own hands and takes her on the hunt of her life.
Warnings: 18+ only, smut, dark romance, hunting, p n v, all the things.
This is not the way I thought this fic would go, but here we are.
My first entry for #Jackelsversebingo2024! 🥳 This one is based on the prompt ‘Camping’ and I have no idea how I came up with this based on that. It’s smutty, it’s a little dark, and it’s got a brief appearance of early season’s leather jacket. 🤗 I loved writing this one, and I hope you enjoy reading it! I guess this could also be classified as Kinktober, but I’m not involved in one of those. 🤣

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Fluorescent lights flicker above my head as I rifle through the dryer, separating my clothes from Deans and folding as I go. He’s never separated clothes, not that he didn’t know how, he just didn’t care to; so it was always up to me or Sam to go through them and make sure nothing was ruined. I slide my arm back in and grimace as I feel the rough leather of one of his new jackets. Slowly pulling it out I can already tell that it’s about two sizes too small at this point; I toss it, along with the rest of the clothes, into the basket and grab a few extra hangers before heading up to our room to finish putting everything away.
“Dean!” I call as I ascend the stairs to the library, “I’ve got some bad news.”
I hear him rattling around in the kitchen, ‘Small Town’ by John Mellencamp softly playing through the little speaker above the door, “Bad news?” He roughly replies, “What do you mean?”
His head peeks around the door of the fridge as I set down the basket and wrinkle my nose, holding up his jacket, “You put this in the dryer.”
He runs a hand across his face and sighs, “Shit.”
“To be honest though,” I start, a slight smile playing at the corners of my lips, “This one isn’t nearly as nice as the one you had when we first met. That one was always my favorite.”
He raises an eyebrow and grins as he shuts the fridge door, “The brown one? That was my dad’s, I don’t even remember the last time I wore that.”
“The day Sammy came back from hell and we met your grandpa.” I blurt out, eyes widening and a blush creeping up my neck as his eyes snap to mine.
“Excuse me?” He gasps, a chuckle escaping him, “Did you just recount, in detail, the last time you saw me wear that jacket?” He takes a few steps toward me and I back slowly out the door. His normal baritone drops what feels like an octave as he whispers, “Did that jacket do something for ya, Darlin’?”
“I-I just-I liked it, and sometimes I miss the days when-when it was just you, me, and Sammy on the road, ya know?” I stutter out and snatch the basket of clothes out of the floor, “It’s-it’s not like I think about the jacket…or-or you in the jacket…”
He shakes his head, rubbing his face again and grins, “Sure, Sweetheart. I miss those days sometimes, too.”
“I’m gonna, uh, finish this.” I nod toward the basket and book it down the hallway, leaving Dean to his thoughts and me to hide in my embarrassment.
A few days later, I’m laid up on the bed with a new book, relaxing during an unusually slow day at the bunker when my phone lights up with Deans name.
‘Meet me in the garage, pack a bag. Got a case.’
‘Didn’t think we had any leads at the moment?’ I send back and grab my duffle from under the bed, stuffing it full with extra clothes and supplies. I sling the bag over my shoulder and grab my phone as another message comes through.
‘Not Chuck related.’
Weird, but not unusual. We could use a run of the mill hunt after everything Chuck’s been throwing at us lately. I shove my phone into my pocket and follow the rumble of the Impala into the garage.
“What did you two get tired of—.” I’m stopped dead in my tracks as Dean turns to face me from the drivers side of the Impala, leather jacket and black tee layered on his torso, Metallica’s greatest hits blasting through the speakers, and the box of his cassettes and 8-tracks sitting beside him. His face is clean shaven and his hair spiked up a little on his head, the only difference is the little aging in his face. If I didn’t know any better I would assume we had spun back in time to 2005.
“Dad’s on a hunt, and I need help looking for a Wendigo,” He nods at the seat next to him and I slowly set my duffle down in the floorboard, “You coming or not?”
Nodding, I sit down beside him and shut the door, trying to stay in character, “Couldn’t get Sammy to help out on this one?”
He snorts and shakes his head, “You know he’s too busy getting a fancy education so he can get me out of trouble.”
I laugh and nod again, “He’s got a lot of learning to do then.” pointing toward his jacket I smile and break for a moment, “Where did you find that?”
“Find what?” He asks, wrapping an arm around the seat and backing out of the bunker, “My jacket? I’ve had this thing for years, Sweetheart, I’d never lose it.” He winks and peels off into the afternoon.
A slight chuckle leaves me and I look out the window, “Where are we headed? Did you bring the map?”
He swaps the tape out, setting the box in the floor before pulling me closer as the intro to ‘Whole lotta Love’ fills the cabin, “Don’t need a map, I know exactly where we’re going. You just sit back and relax.” He places his right arm around my shoulders and I lean into him, the smell of the leather overwhelming my senses, “You gonna sleep? It might be while. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to rest up before we get there.”
I nod and doze off for a while not even feeling the car roll to a stop several hours later. Sunlight warms my cheeks and I stretch, opening my eyes I burst into laughter at the scene in front of me.
“Did you recreate the Wendigo hunt we went on back when we were looking for your dad?!” I exclaim, hopping out of Baby and staring at the tents set up around me, “You’ve really outdone yourself, Dean Winchester.”
He awkwardly rubs the back of his neck and sweetly smiles, “I was thinking about it after you mentioned liking the jacket so much and I’ve been missing the ‘monster of the week’ hunts. I thought it’d be fun to pretend for a little while.”
I return his smile and nod toward the bag beside the tent in the back, “Are we really hunting a Wendigo or do you have something more fun than a flamethrower packed in that bag?”
“Is there anything more fun than a flamethrower?” He questions with a shit-eating grin, “I have a lot of things planned for this weekend…and hunting a Wendigo is not one of them.” He stalks toward me slowly and reaches a hand into his jacket, pulling a rope and a black bandana out of the pocket, “But I do plan on hunting you.”
My jaw slightly drops and I take a step backwards, “This is not where I thought this was going.”
He sends me another sweet smile, “We don’t have to if you don’t want to, but I do keep track of the books you read…and this does seem like a theme they follow. If it’s not the kind of hunt you had in mind though, I’m sure I can find something else.”
He shrugs coyly and begins to turn away before I jump and grab his arm, “No!” I can see the smile on his face as he turns back to face me, “I-I mean, no. This is fine. This is…great, actually. I am more than willing to do...this.” My feet shuffle beneath me and I can feel the anticipation in the air as he stares at my face, checking for any sign of hesitation.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Good.” He says as he shrugs off the jacket, his black tee stretching deliciously across his chest as he reaches up to tie the bandana around his face, “Run.”
My heart leaps into my throat and I freeze, “Now? The suns still out, that’s too easy…”
“Run.” He says again, picking up a knife I didn’t even know was sitting on the small cooler beside us.
“Dean, this feels like something we should do at….”
“Run!” He yells, stepping quickly toward me and I take off into the trees.
In my race to hide I realize that I have nothing but my cellphone with me, no food or water, and nothing to signal to Dean that I need help if I end up in a complicated situation. As if this isn’t a complicated situation already. The first place my mind goes to hide is higher ground, but Dean knows my mind just as well as I do, so I scan for somewhere lower and spot a small hole in a tree trunk just big enough for me to fit through. Sliding in, I shimmy my way up and into the trunk, listening intently for any sound that Dean was close by.
My phone begins to buzz in my pocket and as I dig it out I try not to laugh as I notice Dean must’ve taken my phone while I slept because his contact photo has been changed to Ghostface.
I quickly swipe right and put the phone to my ear, “Oh, please don’t kill me Mister Ghostface. I want to be in the sequel.”
A dark chuckle comes from the other end of the line and I hear him suck in a breath, “Tell me where you are and I won’t have to.”
“No way.” I breathe out, “You’ve gotta catch me.”
The snap of a twig comes from outside of the tree and I feel my heart plummet, “I don’t think you picked a very good spot.” He whispers, knocking softly on the tree trunk, “Do you?”
A hand suddenly slides through the opening of the trunk and wraps around my ankle, pulling hard enough to make me lose my balance landing me on my ass, “Got’cha.”
I pull on my foot and panic sets in as I realize he isn’t letting up. His other hand wraps around my other leg and one hard pull has me out in the open air.
Dean wags a finger at me, his green eyes sparkling, “I know you can hide better than that. I taught you better.”
My brows furrow and I set my jaw, “Speaking of which, how hard are we playing?”
He raises a brow and I see the bandana twitch as he smirks, “No holds barred, Darlin’. Do what you need to get away, it’ll make it more fun when I catch you….again.”
“Good.” I raise a leg and stomp on the hand still holding my ankle in place. He yanks his arm back, cursing, and I scramble away back in the direction of camp, “Catch me if ya can!”
I find another tree with branches low enough that I can swing onto and pull myself up high enough that I can see below me and for a few feet surrounding the tree. My phone rings again and I put it to my ear, hearing Dean’s gruff voice before I can answer.
“That wasn’t very nice.” He spits out, “Are you hiding better this time?”
“You didn’t say I had to play nice.” I whisper, “I think I’m hiding quite well, thank you.”
I sit on the branch with my back toward the trunk of the tree, keeping my knees to my chest in case they dangle and he sees me, “Are you coming to get me?”
“Maybe I already found you.” He whispers back, “Maybe I’m looking at you right now.”
“What are you gonna do when you catch me?”
“When?” He replies, and I can hear the smirk on his face, “Giving up so easily?”
“No, just curious.”
“You’ll find out soon.” The line suddenly goes dead, and I quiet my breathing, as if he could hear it from the ground. The birds and the sound of the creek below are the only noise surrounding me and I chance leaning over to see if he’s anywhere close by, slamming myself back quickly when I see his bandana clad face in the tree next to me. After a moment I realize he must’ve missed me and I chance leaning around again, when a hand wraps around my throat from behind.
“How do we keep meeting like this?” He grunts cockily into my ear, “It’s like you want to be caught.”
My heart is in my throat as he pulls me to him, “I’m going to help you down,” He whispers, one hand on my throat, his thumb and forefinger on either side of my jaw, the other hand on my ass, “Are you going to run?”
I shake my head dumbly and blink, “No.”
“Are you going to hit me?”
Another shake of my head, and he slowly helps me to the forest floor, “Now what am I gonna do with you?” He wraps a hand in my hair and pulls me to my feet, “You did try your best, didn’t you?”
“Uh huh.” I nod, frantically looking for someway to get out of his hold this time as he drops his hand to my jaw again.
Leaning down and he pulls my face up to his, “Your best just wasn’t good enough, was it?”
I smile sweetly and grab the collar of his shirt, pulling him closer and then abruptly shoving him away. Losing his balance, he curses again as I take off running. He scrambles to his feet and lunges to tackle me to the floor, we roll for a few feet before I pin his arms above his head, my knee on his chest.
“Who’s catching whom?” I smirk as I stare down at him, “This isn’t going the way you thought, is it?”
The bandana moves again, the hint of a smile in his eyes, “Sweetheart, this is exactly what I had planned.” His knee finds its way underneath mine and we’re suddenly rolling once more, him pinning me and straddling my hips, “Now, are you going to stay still?”
I nod, my heart in my throat once more, as his hands make their way slowly down my body to the hem of my shirt.
••••••••••••••smut below the cut•••••••••••••••
He lifts the fabric above my head, throwing it to the side, and pulls the rope from his belt loop, wrapping it loosely around my wrists, “Tighter.” I whisper, watching his eyebrows raise before he pulls the knot tight against my skin.
His hands slide down my torso and he slowly slides my jeans down my legs, “Should’ve had you run around like this instead.” He whispers, biting his lip, “Would’ve caught you the first time.”
I blush and bite my own lip, as he rakes his eyes over my body, “Jesus, you’re so beautiful.”
He grips my jaw tightly, dropping the bandana to his neck and pulls me into a searing kiss, his tongue dancing over mine. I strain against the ropes on my wrists, lifting my arms to place my hands in his hair, “No.” he gruffly says before pinning my arms down again, “Don’t touch me.”
I groan, but his lips are on mine again before I can complain and any arguments fly out the door as he lays his body across mine and pushes his hips into me.
“Dean.” I moan, raising my hips to meet his, “Please.”
“Please what?” He asks, and I can feel the smirk on his lips as he runs them down my throat, “What do you need, Baby?”
My legs wrap around his waist and pull him roughly into me again, and he grunts as I sink my teeth into his throat, “Please, Dean.”
He moans again and slides a hand down my waist, “I love it when you beg.” He sinks his thumbs into the waistband of my panties and slides them down my legs before unhooking my bra and helping me stand.
“Now you.” I bat my lashes and he flashes a smile my way before reaching behind me.
“Got something else for ya, first.” He pulls a duffle bag over and takes the old brown jacket out, laying it out on the forest floor, “Lay down. Put your head on it, not above it.”
I do as he instructs as he takes his own clothes off and finds his way in between my thighs again, and slowly runs his hand over himself. I blush as he stares at me again, one hand around himself, the other around my throat as he brings me up to him in another kiss.
“I love you.” He whispers against my lips and pushes me down onto the leather again, before reaching below and feeling the wetness building between my legs, “All that because I chased you through the woods like a maniac?”
“All that because I know you’d never really hurt me.” I reply with a moan as he sinks a single finger into me.
“Oh, I’m gonna hurt you, Baby.” He grins as he adds another finger and runs his other hand across my breast, tugging and pinching at my nipples, “Hurt you so good.”
He slides his fingers out of me and shoved them between my lips with a groan before grabbing the rope above me and flipping me to my stomach. Lifting my hips, he lines up with my entrance and slams his hips into mine, pulling moan after moan from my lips as he rocks into me.
“Good girl,” He groans out, “Yell as loud as you want, no one’s coming to help you.”
His hand wraps around my throat and pull me flush against his chest as his other hand slides across my stomach to rub circles on my clit, “Are you gonna cum for me?”
“Uh huh. Yeah.” I whisper, breathily, “Gonna cum for you.”
“Then do it.” He grunts out as he runs faster, “Wanna feel you squeeze the life outta my cock. Wanna cum with you.”
The mix of his words and the sensations overwhelming my body send me directly over the edge, my eyes roll back and I go limp in his arms, feeling his hips stutter to a stop shortly after. He pulls himself out of me and spins me slowly to face him as he cradled my face, placing a sweet kiss to my lips.
“That was awesome.” He breathes out with a grin, “We should do that once a month.”
I laugh as he places the jacket around my naked shoulders and pulls his pants up around his waist, “Yeah, next time you can keep the jacket on.”
He winks and pulls me toward our camp, “We’ll see. You wanna rest, eat a s’more, and then maybe I’ll let you chase me through the dark.”
“Didn’t you tell a cop one time that you don’t get trapped in the woods with people, people get trapped in the woods with you?”
“I’d make an exception for you.” He says with a grin, tugging me close to him and kissing my temple, “I love you, Pretty Girl.”
I smile against him, “I love you, too.”
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I have finally finished reading Blossom. Happy ending in the novel too, although a lot of things were vastly different; the main couple, of course, remained superior until the end.
Things we got in the novel that I am glad didn't make it into the series:
Dou Zhao, an adult woman, scheming and navigating complex familial relationships while in a two year old, then a five year old body. I get how it might be interesting for some, but it was incredibly boring for me, and since she managed to neutralise her stepmother quite early on, I saw no need to spend so much time watching her building up and managing relationships with everyone in the Dou family. Moreover, I am glad that the size of the family was trimmed down (I still can't make sense of all the relationships presented in the novel) and some characters were changed compared to how they were in the novel; it was amazing to see Grandma, who had been only a concubine in the book (and therefore couldn't even be called Grandma by Dou Zhao according to customs, let alone have any kind of power), turning into a formidable matriarch, and it was also cool to see Zhao Zhangru as the constant sidekick;
no Song Mo until 114 chapters in. I must confess that my main fascination in both the series and the novel was the relationship between the mains, and the fact that he is only mentioned once or twice before his first dramatic appearance was definitely not enough for me;
way too much time spent on side characters; like I said in a previous post, did I really need to know in detail how Suxin and Sulan ended up serving Dou Zhao? And it felt even more useless since in the novel they end up getting married and leaving the Song Manor, and only getting mentioned in passing from that moment on;
Things I wish would have made it into the series, but did not (and some of them could have never made it, unless the entire censorship board would have been in a coma):
all the sexual encounters between Song Mo and Dou Zhao. Like in the series, the start of their physical intimacy is quite slow, they don't consummate during their wedding night (but unlike in the series, it's not because she prepares a period PowerPoint presentation, it's simply because he knows the next days as newlyweds will be tiring, and just wants to allow them to rest). Unlike in the series, no one is cockblocking Song Mo (in fact, their subordinates are even alarmed at the lack of consummation), and when he decides to make a move on Dou Zhao, he does it, and no one dares to interrupt. They make love quite regularly from that moment on, and I like how Dou Zhao's reluctance is gradually melting away, and how the novel is clearly stating that she enjoys the encounters just as much as he does, and even becomes bold enough to initiate later on;
them being parents. I know we get that one cute scene with their daughter at the end of the series, but Song Mo is such a good dad and husband in the novel, constantly prioritising Dou Zhao's comfort and being just as involved in the child's rearing as she is (to the point that their son learns to say Papa before Mama). I surely wish we would have seen more of that in the series.
Song Yichun does not die in the novel. He is, in a delightful twist of fate, forced to expel Song Han from the family, a treatment he had hoped to apply to Song Mo, and is left disabled after Song Han attacks him. Moreover, the daughter he had switched at birth with Song Han is discovered alive, Song Mo takes her under his protection, and she gets married and lives happily. I surely wish karma would have hit the old man in the face like this in the series as well.
Other things that got changed which I am fairly neutral about:
Song Mo and Dou Zhao's backgrounds in life 1. I have to say I loved how the series made it crystal clear that life 1 was an utterly doomed timeline, with both of them being betrayed and ultimately killed, while the entire country was burning. Life 1 in the novel was bleak in a different, more subtle, way. Dou Zhao dies after a long illness, almost completely devoid of any human warmth - the novel tells us that both her sons with Wei Tingyu are distant, as a result of her being too busy with household matters to be able to form a bond with them, and the only warmth she gets is from her daughter, a child she had after forcing herself to have sex with her husband once more (she had trauma from miscarriage), hoping she could get pregnant again and alleviate her loneliness somewhat. And Song Mo, unlike in the series, is a very powerful figure after the coup, but is perceived as merciless (having slaughtered both his father and brother), cynical (he never finds out the truth about his uncle's death, and never bothers to) and, in the end, utterly, utterly alone;
the dynamic between them after the rebirth. Unlike in the series, where they forged a bond in life 1 which was the basis for their relationship as adults in life 2, in the novel they meet as teenagers (when he is 13 and she is 14), and he is more or less smitten from the beginning, whereas she fears and despises him at first, gradually starting to understand him the more their paths cross. While in the series, they are already both in love by the time she accepts his proposal (having gone through a lot of adventures together that strengthened their bond), in the novel, he is the one with the huge crush, while she accepts his proposal for more pragmatic reasons, trusting that he is capable and will support her in the way Wei Tingyu was unable to. But the attraction between them is mutual, and I really liked watching her slowly but surely falling in love with him due to his constant care and attention towards her;
Song Mo is way more calculated in the novel than in the series, where he's simply feral and would wreak havoc at any given moment were it not for Dou Zhao and her more sensible approaches. It makes for an interesting dynamic in the series, where they pretty much compliment each other, but I must confess I loved his scheming and 5D chess playing in the novel;
Dou Ming's entire character. Unlike in the series, which presented a nature versus nurture situation, with Dou Ming being shrewd in life 1 after being raised by her mother, and a sweet, innocent girl in life 2, as a result of not being raised by her mother, in the novel, Dou Ming exhibits jealousy from an early age, and constantly feels inferior, which ultimately results in her taking Dou Zhao's place as Wei Tingyu's wife. Their marriage is unhappy, as, just like in the series, he is not very smart and doesn't like facing difficulties. Unlike in the series, she doesn't die (she's too petty to die), but it's clear by the time she makes her last appearance in the novel that her life is miserable, and there is no chance of improvement;
Wang Yingxue is not even half as cunning and manipulative as her series counterpart; she fails to charm Dou Shiying in any meaningful way (he is never in love with her and only wants to take her as a concubine because they had a sexual encounter while he was drunk, and he wants to save face) and ultimately she pushes him away, becomes a pariah in the family and is sent to a country estate to die forgotten by everyone, including her daughter;
Miao Ansu has a completely different familial background and no connection to Dou Zhao prior to her marriage with Song Han. She's also far from being the timid forest creature the series portrays her as;
Song Han manages to be somehow even more awful than his series counterpart. Not only is he not in love with Miao Ansu, he also lacks any kind of respect for her, which ultimately pushes her to align with Dou Zhao and Song Mo, and initiate his downfall. His death is not described in the novel, but it is heavily implied.
Overall, while there were a lot of things I liked about the book, I think I prefer the pacing of the series way more. Also, the series got a "will they get their happily ever after, won't they?" feeling with the poison subplot that the novel lacked until very close to the end (when Dou Zhao is almost taken hostage during the palace coup). The royals are awful as hell in both iterations, the injustice never really gets solved (in my opinion, the Emperor was also very much to blame for Jiang Meisun's death, not only the scheming Empress), but at least the lovely main couple lives happily ever after.
Would I rather recommend the book or the series? Honestly, probably the series, but the Song Mo/Dou Zhao dynamic is lovely in the novel as well, and, if nothing else, those passages about their relationship are definitely worth reading.

You dream of him every night for a week after that night at the bar. They’re filthy, depraved sometimes, and you always wake up, slick pooling between your thighs, fingers working furiously before your alarm goes off to try a satiate you, or at least tide you over until you can climb back into bed that night and really take your time to imagine all the ways Javier would take you apart with his fingers, with his mouth, with his….
“Are you even listening to me?”
You want to answer honestly and say no, you were busy daydreaming about getting railed by your dad’s buddy, but when you look across the table and see your boss practically glaring at you, you realise it’s probably for the best to lie a little.
“Sorry,” You mumble, picking up your pen, “Didn’t sleep well, what were you saying?”
“The fundraiser tomorrow,” She speaks, “For Dylan’s foundation, would you be okay to cover it?”
You nod, because it makes sense for it to be you. Dylan had overdosed just over a year ago – seemingly on top of things, doing well in school and incredibly bright, found slouched over on a street corner, dead from an overdose before he’d been able to leave the small town for whatever bright lights he was destined for. He was just one of a string of drug-related deaths over the past twelve months – an ‘epidemic’ as they had coined it – the town too close to Mexico to escape the trade that Javier himself had worked so hard to quell. Dylan’s parent’s had set up a small foundation after his death, hoping to help other young kids who could be lured into this stuff to have other opportunities in their lives.
“What kinda thing are you thinking?” You ask, starting to jot down notes as she speaks.
“Just some reaction from people there, why they’ve decided to come out and support, maybe try and grab one of his parents, just the usual really, and we can run a story in the following days, might help drum up some more support for them if nothing else.”
You nod, doing your usual with your notes of underlining the important parts, making notes on the kind of questions you’ll ask when you speak to people, “How many words have I got to work with?”
“I think we can give them a page,” She says, looking to her boss who nods in agreement, “So whatever you produced for last month’s story, that should be good.”
You nod, making a note of that too, and then continue to zone out for the rest of the meeting as everyone talks amongst themselves, mind going right back to Javi and what he would feel like putting his weight on you, settling between your thighs. You really needed to get a grip.
“Oh, isn’t it so nice to see such a good turn out today?” Your mom gushes, looking around at what feels like the whole of Laredo milling about a number of stalls that are selling all sorts of different things.
“Sure is good to see,” Your dad agrees, putting his hands on your shoulders to give them a squeeze, “You want us to leave you to your reporting, pumpkin?”
The nickname makes you wince a little, a moniker from your early days, before you’d filled out into your body. It was cute, but at twenty-five years of age, you do sometimes wish he’d find something else to call you.
“I shouldn’t be too long,” You turn around and smile at him, “I can come and find you in a little while.”
You wander around, introducing yourself to a few people asking them questions and jotting down notes. You’ve just finished speaking to Martina, famous throughout town for owning her own candle business, about why she’s supporting the foundation, when you step back and feel two sturdy hands holding onto your waist. You’re about to turn around and slap whoever it is for touching you, when that deep voice hits your ears.
“Careful, querida,” Javier fucking Peña, “Almost stood on my foot.”
You whip around, mainly to put a bit of distance between the two of you, because it felt like his lips had been inches from your ear. He drops one of his hands, but keeps the other ghosting at your side, maybe to keep you steady more than anything as you wobble from the speed at which you’ve turned around.
“Maybe you shouldn’t stand too close then?” You offer, making sure it comes out more playful than anything, because actually, all you really want is for his body to press against you more often.
“Fair point,” He shrugs, “Thought I recognized you so I wanted to say hi,” He finally lets that other hand drop from your waist, “So hi.” Is... Is he nervous?
You chuckle a little, “Hi,” you respond simply with a smile, “I didn’t expect to see you here,” You say honestly, this wasn’t his kind of scene before, you can’t imagine it’s any more appealing to him now, “Didn’t think it was your kind of scene.”
He rubs a hand nervously over the back of his neck, “It’s not, I’ve been made to come,” He nods his head behind him where Chucho is talking to a group of other ranchers, “Apparently I’ve got to start showing my face more.”
“Well, it’s a nice face,” your mouth speaks before your brain can catch up with what it’s saying, you inwardly cringe when you realise what you’ve said, “I mean, I’m sure people are happy to see you around.” Is all you can think to say to try and get him to forget the weird compliment.
He seems to smile, but like it had been across the table almost two weeks ago, his smile seems forced, “Just wish I could skip the bullshit about everyone being proud of me.”
“But it’s true,” You shrug, moving away from the stall with him so other people can in front of you to look, “You did really good things out there.”
He scoffs now, shaking his head a little, “You shouldn’t believe everything you read in the newspapers, querida,” He speaks, “Surely you should know that more than anyone.”
You don’t know what he’s actually trying to say, but you decide to play it light, “Are you accusing me of lying in my stories, Peña?” You say with a smirk.
“Perhaps not you,” He offers, “But I know plenty of journalists who know how to twist a story to get what they want,” He looks down at his shoes, kicking at the gravel a little, “Just don’t want you thinking I’m something I’m not.”
“Been gone a long time,” You muse, “You might have to spend some time reminding me who you are.”
It’s flirting the lines of maybe being too much you think, but you’ve not said anything that’s not true. He has been gone a long time, and if what he’s said is anything to go by, he will have to remind you of who he is or show you how he’s changed.
“Not sure you’d like who I am now very much, querida.” He says simply.
You’re about to open your mouth to respond, tell him you’re pretty sure that wouldn’t be true and that there isn’t a thing he could do on this earth that would make you think he was a bad person, but before you can, Chucho is coming up behind him, a firm hand on his shoulder.
“Ah, mija,” He smiles at you, “You here alone?”
“Hey Chucho,” You greet with a smile, “Mom and dad are around somewhere, I’m just here working on a story.” You hold up your notepad and pen.
“Let’s see if we can’t find them, huh Javi?” Chucho muses to his son, “Get you a nice cold lemonade for when you’re finished?” He motions to the blazing sun and then back to you.
“Sounds lovely, thank you,” You motion over their shoulder to where Dylan’s parents are stood, “I just need to speak to them, and I’ll come and find you.”
Javi doesn’t say goodbye, just follows closely behind Chucho as they disappear into the crowds, leaving you to wander over to Dylan’s parents. They’re not strangers to the paper, your boss had written a story with them not long after Dylan’s funeral, trying to spread awareness as to just how deep the drug problem ran in town. The Laredo Morning Times had always been supportive to them, so you didn’t feel the same anxiety you normally did when gathering information for stories, cold calling or knocking on doors trying to introduce yourself before doors are swiftly shut in your face or phones are hung up with a ‘no comment’.
They’re warm with you as you speak to them, thanking you for coming, thanking the paper for agreeing to cover the event, they even smile, which for a pair who lost their only son in such a horrible way still shocks you for some reason. Their loss hasn’t defined them, only made them stronger, made them determined to stop their pain from happening to anyone else. You make a note to write something equally as poetic in your article.
The crowds are thinning out a little as the midday sun does its worst. You can feel beads of sweat gathering behind our knees and you curse the fact you hadn’t remembered your hat. You can feel the heat prickling your skin as you spot your parents, sitting on a picnic bench with Javi and Chucho sat opposite them. When you’re close enough to the table, you can see everyone has plastic cups full of lemonade, but there’s one, put in front of the spare spot on the bench next to Javi, that is pink in colour instead of the cloudy yellow of everyone else’s.
“You get everything you need?” Your dad asks, as you try and fight your legs over the bench in the most graceful way possible.
“Yeah,” You nod, “Think it’ll make a great piece, Dylan’s parents seem really positive about it all,” You pick up the cup and take a sip, pink lemonade, your favourite, “Thanks for this.” You nod in the direction of your dad.
“Don’t thank me, Javi got these,” He smiles, “Remembered you preferred pink lemonade and everything.”
It actually makes your heart swell in your chest. He was always thoughtful, even before he left. Observant almost to a fault. But even after all these years, all of his stress, everything he’s seen, he still knows you well enough to know you prefer the sweeter pink lemonade. You turn your head to him to find him already looking at you with a little smile on his face.
“Thank you.” You say quietly, sipping through the straw.
“You’re welcome, dulzura.”
Javier Peña is doing a piss poor job of staying away from you, even by his standards. He lasted less than a week before he was waltzing over to you, hands on your waist, buying you pink lemonade because he knows you prefer it. There hasn’t been a night where he hasn’t wrapped his fist around his cock and made himself cum over the thought of you. He finds it easier to drop off to sleep once he’s done it, but his nights are still fitful, full of nightmares, tossing and turning, waking up to sweat soaked sheets and a heaving chest. He wonders briefly, when he lies awake watching the dawn arrive through his curtains, whether your body next to him would ease his nightmares? But then he thinks what if it doesn’t. What if you have to wake up, look at him with those innocent doe eyes and see him for what he really is? No, he can’t let his darkness cloud you, you don’t deserve that, you deserve someone that going to be gentle with you, someone softer, not him with all his jagged edges.
He's currently sitting in his truck, just outside of the liquor store, contemplating how badly he wants that packet of cigarettes and the bottle of whiskey he’d driven out to buy. He’d done alright so far, chewing on his Nicorette gum, but his fingers are itching for the familiarity of a cigarette between his fingers, and he’d finished the bottle of whiskey last night.
Then, almost like he’s being punished by God, which would make sense really, all things considered, you’re in his eyeline, walking down the street with a woman who is a little older than you, with your notepad and pen clutched in your hand. It’s late and he wonders where you must be going to report at such a late hour, and then he worries, because in his experience, nothing good happens after dark that worth making the newspapers. As the two of you approach him, he leans further out of his open window, holding his arm out to catch your attention.
“Hey Javi,” You smile, coming to a stop in front of his window, “What are you doing in town?”
“Just picking a few things up,” He answers simply, because this isn’t about him, he needs to know where you’re going, “Where are you going this late?”
You turn to the older woman you’re with, tell her to go on ahead and you’ll catch her up, “There’s been some kind of drugs bust a few streets over,” You explain, “Sounds like it might be quite big so we’re just going down to see what’s happening.”
“Your dad working it?” He asks, because if he is, he knows you’ll be okay.
You shake your head, “Nah, he’s not on nights right now,” You’re shifting back and forth on your feet, clearly itching to get going, “I’ll be alright though, sounds like plenty of dad’s officers are down there.”
He turns his head back to the steering wheel and then back to you, “Be careful, alright?”
You smile at him again and if he’s not careful, he really could get used to being the person who draws that from you more often, “I know what I’m doing,” You chuckle slightly, and he doesn’t doubt it, not really, “Been covering this kinda shit for a while.”
Without really thinking about it, he leans over, roots around in the glovebox and pulls out the little card he knows that’s in there. He passes it over to you, letting you take it, “It’s got my number on it,” He explains, “I’ve been in this shit and I just…” He trails off with a sigh, “Just, call me before you write something that might get you in trouble, okay?”
“Worried about me, Peña?” You smirk, and he thinks above your smile, he’d like to make you smirk more too.
“I’ve just seen too many good journalists write things that ruin their careers,” He shrugs, trying to play it off but probably doing a terrible job of it, “Don’t want you to make the same mistake.”
He watches as you turn the card over in your fingers a few times, before smiling at him one last time, “I’ll call you if need you.” And he really hopes you do.
In that moment, he gives up on trying to resist the call of the liquor store, pulling out his keys from the ignition and opening his door, climbing down onto the pavement. He stalls a little, before he puts a hand on your shoulder and gives it a squeeze, “Go and get your story, reporter.” And then motions his head for you to go.
He buys a bottle of whiskey and two packs of cigarettes, smokes two of them before he gets home. He thinks if he were a stronger man he’d have managed to quit, but he’s not, especially when it comes to you. Sure, he knew you before, but this new you? He’s known less than a month and he’s already struggling to stick to his own rules. He steps down from his truck back on the ranch, walks in and pours himself a healthy double, trying to convince himself it’ll be okay, he just needs to keep to himself, but when he’s led in bed at night, thinking of your sweet smile, he thinks this might just be another thing he fails at.
It’s late. Too late for you to be awake when you have to be at the office in the morning, but you can’t stop looking at the series of numbers, printed on the little card, underneath the words ‘Javier Peña, DEA.’ It’s out of date, clearly, the DEA nothing more than a memory to him. But it’s the principle of it that matters most. He’s worried about you, and he would only worry if he cared right?
You set it on your nightstand, switch off the little lamp and plunge yourself into darkness, right at the same time as you plunge your hand under your sleep shorts and through your folds. You’re soaked, because you always are when you think about him, it’s actually sort of pathetic. You sink two fingers into yourself, only briefly, letting out a satisfied breath, dragging your slick fingers back you to slowly circle your clit.
It's new, the way you always need to take care of yourself. The brief relationship you’d had in college with James hadn’t given you much to work with, you hadn’t really felt desperation to get yourself off like this before.
Your other hand, currently running over your peaked nipples through your tank top, is itching to reach across to your nightstand, pick up the phone and dial that number. You want to breathe down the phone at him, tell him you’re being so bad, that you need him to help, need that deep voice to guide you through it. As you press your fingers harder into your clit, speeding up your circles and bucking your hips, you wonder what he’d actually do if you did call him. Would he tell you to get lost? You don’t think he would, you think he’d do exactly as you asked, talk you through it.
You imagine his voice in your ear, telling you how good you’re being for him. You imagine his hand replacing your own, sinking his fingers into you, using his thumb to work your clit, the rough of his moustache running over the skin of your neck as he kisses you there. It’s the image of him looking down at you, smiling as he makes you cum that tips you over the edge. That flood of relief that rushes through you as you bite down on your bottom lip to keep you from whispering his name as your body shakes through your orgasm.
You wipe your slick fingers on the skin of your thigh, roll over in bed so your back is to the phone, trying to get your breathing under control. You drag the covers up under your chin, closing your eyes and trying to sleep without imagining his strong arm around your waist, his broad chest against your back. Does he snore? You wonder as you try and fall asleep. Would he keep you warm? It’s all running through your head as you sleep, conjuring up dreams that come morning have you realizing something has to give, you have to know, you have to have him. You needed Javier Peña more than the air you breathe, no matter how bad it was to admit that, no matter what it meant, no matter what it would cost, you needed him and you think to yourself as you drive to work, that he might just need you as much as you need him.

STEVE HARRINGTON
“Dustin! Slow down!” Steve called out. His son had already made it halfway across the parking lot, practically sprinting to the doors.
“Come on Dad!” Dustin turned around and let his dad catch up. He grabbed the elder's hand, pulling him along.
“Okay, Okay!” Steve kept a tight hold on Dustin's hand. He’d done his research on convention etiquette and came across an article about adults losing their children and he told himself he’d be completely sure of where Dustin was at all times. The backpack he donned was filled with multiple water bottles, and his wallet had both cash and his debit and credit cards in case of any financial emergency.
They’d gotten there much earlier than they needed to, but with Steve’s anxiety and Dustin’s exhilaration, neither of them minded having to wait around until they opened the doors for the panel. Dustin talked Steve’s ear off, rambling about anything and everything related to the convention.
Steve fiddled with the tag on the lanyard he and Dustin were given upon entry, and he finally realised the reality of the scenario. Soon, he’d be in a room with not only a hundred other people, but the man he’d been pining for in secret for the past who knows how long. He was brought out of his thoughts by Dustin tugging on his sleeve.
The two filed into the large room along with a bunch of other people, and Steve’s grip on Dustin’s arm was probably tighter than it should’ve been as they found their way to an open pair of seats. The group that Steve had paid an exorbitant amount of money to see would be taking the stage soon, and Steve could feel his son practically vibrating next to him.
“You sure you’re gonna make it through this without exploding?” Steve asked and Dustin nodded.
“I have to!” Dustin exclaimed and Steve laughed, putting a hand on his son's head, twisting his fingers into his curls. Dustin wore a bright yellow sweater Steve recognized as his own, and the smile he wore was brighter than Steve had seen in a while. More people would pour into the room, and the multiple conversations would be overwhelming if Steve wasn’t focused on the way the lights dimmed and a woman walked on stage.
“Good afternoon, everyone!” She called into the microphone. The voices around quieted, and Steve tensed in his seat. “My name is Tory, and I will be hosting the event we’ve all come out here for. So, what do you say we get our guests up here and get this thing started?” The audience cheered and the streamers came on stage one by one before walking to their respective seats. A guy with dirty blond curls led the way up the stage, introduced as ‘Gareth,’ and the rest followed in. There was Austin, Chrissy (who Steve recognized from the singular stream he’d watched), Robin and Jeff. They all seemed to notice at the same time as the audience that Eddie wasn’t trailing behind them. After a moment, the applause faded and Gareth sighed into the microphone in front of him.
“This asshole.” The audience laughed, and only a moment later did Eddie shuffle on stage. Clapping and cheering surrounded Steve, but he could hardly hear it as his eyes focussed on Eddie’s form.
It was different to seeing him through a TV screen, and he wasn’t sure how Eddie could get any more attractive. His hair was loose, reaching down past his collarbones. It was curly, and wild, and free. He wore a pair of black skinny jeans, torn at the knees and thighs, chains hanging from two of his belt loops. His shirt was looser, the white fabric clashing with the black of the tattoo’s that spread down both of his arms, and had graphic text of a band name Steve could vaguely recall. He could feel Dustin’s grip on his arm as he too watched in awe, although for a completely different reason. Eddie finally reached his chair, taking a theatrical bow before sitting down.
“I love you, Eddie!” Someone called from farther back in the room. Eddie’s eyebrows raised and he smiled.
“Woah,” He spoke into his microphone, pulling a piece of his hair over his mouth. “Love you too.” Part of the audience cheered and Eddie leaned away from his microphone.
“Stop flirting with the audience, man.” Gareth scolded half-heartedly and Eddie returned his words with a raised middle finger, sparking genuine laughter from Gareth.
“So!” Tory spoke, cutting off the pair's bickering. Let's start off with a few games, yeah?”
About half an hour and a couple of games later, they’d finally reached the question portion of the panel. Tory explained that they would start off with submitted questions and then move to having a few audience members ask their own. Pulling out a clipboard, presumably the clipboard that held the predetermined questions, Tory smiled.
“Alright! First question is from ‘Hellfire’, with an ‘i’ on Twitter. It reads, ‘Robin when did you first realise you were a lesbian?’” Robin smiled and thought for a quick moment before answering.
“Well, I think I've always known, you know? Like, I never had actual crushes on boys in school and I remember asking myself why I couldn't like girls like the boys liked girls. But then after I got older and learned the queer people existed, and what each label meant, is when I really was able to realise who I am.” Robin rambled, and Steve couldn’t help but smile. The audience gave her claps and snaps and cheers of encouragement.
“Beautifully said, Robin! Our next question is for Austin-” The voice of the host faded away as Steve zeroed in on Eddie once again. He was resting his chin on his pale hand, chunky rings and bands covered his fingers and chipped black nail polish was painted messily on his nails. Even from where they sat, Steve could see the way the corner of Eddie’s eyes crinkled when he smiled, smile lines and dimples on his cheeks accompanying the grin that blessed Eddie's face. The purple and yellow lighting gave his hair and skin a glow that Steve found terribly alluring. He wasn't sure how much time had passed, getting lost in the bright baritone of Eddie’s voice as it mixed in with the others, studying the man before him as if he’d be tested afterwards. He only came back to reality when Eddie’s chuckle crackled through the microphone, but he couldn’t bring himself to actually tune into the words being said.
Soon, the pre-submitted questions had dwindled and after the last few had been asked they moved to having audience members voice their own queries. The audience questions were less organised, many asking about mundane attributes such as favourite meals or shows while others were completely obscure and had the panel struggling to answer.
“Well, we have time for just one more question from the audience.” And before Steve knew it, his son’s hand was shooting up. “Alright, you in the yellow, back there!” A smile spread across Dustin’s face as he stood and made his way to the microphone placed in the aisle between seats.
“So,” Dustin began nervously. Steve watched as he fiddled with his fingers, a nervous tick he’d developed. “Uh, my question is for Eddie?”
“Shoot, little man.” Eddie smiled, warm and welcoming, and Steve tried to swallow the lump in his throat.
"Ah, um. So, you talk about how school was for you quite often and I wanted to know how exactly you overcame all the uh, the name calling and everything?" Dustin was stuttering through a few words and Steve wanted nothing more than to go over and rub his boy's back. He could do that when Dustin returned. Eddie's face softened and he started to fiddle with the rings that Steve wondered always riddled his fingers.
"Yeah. So for anyone who doesn't watch me that often, I do streams where I talk about my unfortunate middle school and high school years to kind of-- shed light on what it's like for kids who were and are like me," Eddie started. "Uh I was called names," He moved a hand in Dustin's direction. "Messed with physically, all that. As for your question, I think I just started to realise that I'm not what any of those assholes say I am. That they can't push me around anymore.
Obviously, things might work differently for other people but that's what worked for me personally. Plus I was held back a couple of years so my bullies were out of my school life and I was able to be who I am." A few people from the crowd clapped, egging on the rest. Dustin beamed at Eddie's response.
"Thank you," Was the last thing Dustin said before he stepped away from the microphone and back to his seat beside his father.
"How was that?" Steve asked his son who was practically vibrating in his chair.
“That was so cool!” Dustin whispered and Steve smiled. Little did he know how cool it was going to get.
“Who knew you were such a poet, Eddie?” Tory asked and Eddie laughed and shook his head.
“Well, I am a songwriter so I'm technically halfway there.” He shrugged as if it were no big deal.
“That sounds about right.” Tory spoke over the few cheers that broke out. “Well, folks. That’s the end of our time here. Give it up for our wonderful guests!” Applause roared throughout the room as the panel stood and waved to the audience as they left. Steve felt like he could breathe again. He held Dustin close as they made their way outside, just as he had on the way in, and once the warm sun fell on their skin Steve took the backpack off his shoulders and pulled out a few granola bars and bottles of water. Steve spoke again after a few minutes.
“I have a surprise for you.” He stated as he zipped the backpack up, slinging it over his shoulder.
“Really?” Dustin asked from his seat on the concrete curb. “What is it?”
“Can’t tell you. But, we have to be there in the next fifteen minutes so we should make our way over there.” Steve pointed to his watch as Dustin stood up. The boy was obviously starting to grow tired, though the afternoon sun shining in the sky should mean he should still be energised. He tired easily, Steve found, and between the fact Steve knew Dustin didn't get much sleep the night prior and the amount of excitement that filled the boy, Steve was surprised he hadn't crashed yet.
“Lead the way, father dearest.” Dustin said, mustering up as much enthusiasm as he could. That was okay, he’d be truly enthusiastic soon.
EDDIE MUNSON
Eddie thanked any god that was out there for the short break he and his friends were given after the panel. It was so much fun being able to talk to his fans, though he found it unfortunate that it was by way of him being on a stage. A specific boy who asked a question stuck out to him. Surprisingly over the others who shouted compliments or "I love you's" at him. Yep. Just a young boy in a large yellow sweatshirt, probably in his middle school or early high school years asking how he overcame the bullying. Eddie swore it almost done broke his heart.
He took a swig of his bottled water and ate a few pieces of the slightly stale pizza that sat in the small room he and his friends were provided. Eddie popped the tape out of his walkman to flip it around. He closed the lid, and pressed down the play button, letting the sound of his mixtape fill his ear through the single earbud he had in.
Wayne had poked fun at him when he bought it. ‘You tryna be old-school or somethin’?’ He’d said as he rubbed his knuckles into his nephew's scalp. Eddie missed his uncle, and couldn't wait to go see the man someday soon.
"I'm so excited to go meet everyone!" Chrissy gushed. She sat on the loveseat, Robin next to her.
Haha, get it?
"I'm just happy I get to be with you, Chris. I don't know how I would handle everyone by myself." Robin smiled sheepishly. God, Eddie was gonna barf if Robin kept this up. How could two people be so clueless?
Literally, just ask her out already you idiot.
"I'm gonna make my way over to where I gotta be. Good luck, girls." Eddie clipped his walkman onto his jeans waistline and shot finger guns at the two.
"Good luck, Eddie!" Chrissy jumped up to hug him and over her shoulder, Eddie winked at Robin. Robin returned a shy look as Chrissy pulled away.
"Bye, Eddie," Robin mumbled and Eddie huffed humorously before leaving and shutting the door behind him. He took a deep breath, and finally started to make his way to the next phase of completing this con.
-
It had been about half an hour of meeting fans, taking photos, and receiving small trinkets from crafty fans that he graciously took and thanked their makers. He wasn’t sure of the last time he’d felt so appreciated.
"I love you!" A fan said as they waved each other off.
"I love you too," Eddie would return those words multiple times, and each time he meant it. The photographer called for the next people in line. The next thing he knew, a familiar flash of yellow entered his vision and he recognized the owner of a mop of brown, curly locks. Eddie grinned. Then he noticed the figure following the young man. He was tall, and broad, and also had a mop of brown hair on the top of his head. His hair was not curly like the boy he was with.
Wow, okay.
"Hey, little man!" Eddie brought back the nickname from earlier as the boy tucked himself into Eddie's side, the other man standing just behind his son and in turn behind Eddie.
"Hi!" Yellow shirt was ecstatic and Eddie hugged the boy back. Eddie took a quick look over his shoulder at the slightly taller man, blinking him a greeting and receiving a nod in return. Eddie was sure he’d never seen someone so handsome.
Handsome. He couldn't believe he was using that word, but matched completely with what he was seeing. Broad shoulders, swoopy hair, and shiny eyes. Freckles, straight white teeth and a warmth that radiated off of his body. Eddie wanted to lean into it, always feeling so cold. This guy totally would’ve bullied him in school. But, here he was, not a malicious gilt in his eye.
Maybe Eddie wasn’t as over high school as he thought.
"Three, two, one." The photographer counted down before the flash struck, capturing the image. The youngest started to move and Eddie grabbed onto his shoulders.
"Hey," He started and the boy's confused eyes met Eddies. "Just wanted to remind you of how awesome you are." Eddie's smile was as soft as his eyes were and the latter's eyes widened. The photographer shouted out, trying to keep the momentum, and Eddie wished the boy farewell, giving one last look to the other man. The latter looked back at him, his expression was unreadable, but devastatingly attractive. The two left and Eddie continued on with the now shorter line of people left.
CHRISSY CUNNINGHAM
Chrissy sighed as she lay down on the loveseat in the group's room. Taking photos and meeting fans personally was super fun, but also very tiring. Robin was going to return soon. She had just left to grab a couple more bottles of water since she and Rob had finished theirs and the only one in the room was Eddie’s and frankly, she did not want to ingest whatever that man's mouth touches. (It was mostly cigarettes, that's all she knew.)
Her mind wandered back to Robin. Chrissy rested her head on the small pillow that sat in the corner of the cushions, almost wishing it was Robin's chest she were resting on instead.
Wait, what? She couldn't think of her best friend like this, could she?
She couldn’t help but realise she thought this way a lot. What would Robin think? Yeah, she was a lesbian, but that doesn't mean she's interested in just any girl who comes along. Plus, she's Robin's best friend. Keyword, friend. There's no way Robin likes her in any other way than platonically. What would Robin think? Would she hate Chrissy? Her thoughts were cut short when the taller girl burst through the door, Eddie and the rest of the guys following.
"Guys you will never believe this. That one kid that asked that really deep question to me, came to my booth and I think he was there with his dad or something. Anyway the dad, or whatever, was like, super fucking hot--" Eddie's voice trailed off. Chrissy wanted to pay attention to Eddie's rambling, she did, but she had too much to think about right now.
"Hey," Robin's voice cut into Chrissy's thoughts from her spot on the floor next to the loveseat. As much as she loved to hear Robin speak, it was currently the last thing she wanted to hear "You okay?"
"Yeah, 'm just tired 's all," Chrissy mumbled. Robin looked skeptical before nodding and sending Chrissy a sympathetic look.
-
Chrissy ended up going back to the hotel early while everyone else stayed back a bit longer before they left for a restaurant for a celebratory dinner. Robin offered to stay with her, but Chrissy waved her off and told her to have fun with the guys. Robin promised to bring her back some leftovers and let her know she hopes Chrissy feels better. Chrissy smiled weakly before Robin would leave and Chrissy would change into a tank top and shorts and slip into the sheets of the bed she would have to share with the girl she was currently struggling over tonight.
She felt herself tear up.
Why did this have to be so hard? Why did this have to happen now and not in like, high school? She couldn't be having a sexuality crisis right now, not while they were supposed to be having fun at the convention for the next couple of days. Chrissy was scared of rejection, she admitted to herself. Not having feelings bigger than their current friendship, but the idea that she tells Robin these feelings and Robin rejects her and never speaks to her again and--
The tears slid down her cheeks and Chrissy wiped them away.
It was no use though when the last tears would be replaced quickly.
STEVE HARRINGTON
Music quietly played through the speakers of Steve's car. He had placed an order for pickup at his and Dustin's favourite restaurant and they were on their way to go get it. Steve was starving and Dustin was on his way to falling asleep in the passenger seat. After another couple more minutes, they finally arrived at the place and Steve softly nudged Dustin's shoulder.
"I'll be right back, 'kay? Just grabbing the food." He said quietly. Dustin nodded and Steve took that as acknowledgment. He got out of the car and went inside, waiting for a staff member. Someone quickly arrived. Steve told them his business and his name and in return, he earned a big warm paper bag that would be filled with the dinner. Steve thanked the person who helped him and he walked out of the door and made his way back to his car.
Until he saw a cloud of smoke from where the end of the small parking lot and the wall of the building met. There stood a man who he recognized all too well.
This was stupid. Steve was stupid.
Still, Steve walked over to the other who still wasn't made known of his presence.
"Hey," Steve greeted as he got closer. The long-haired man turned his head, blowing out another cloud of smoke. He tilted his head curiously before he spoke.
"Hi," Eddie said before he dropped his cigarette and stepped on it. "You're the guy that came in with the kid in the yellow, right?" Steve nodded, ignoring how his heart stuttered at the fact he was recognized.
"Yeah, he's my son. I wanted to thank you for what you said to him," Steve began, fiddling with the handle of the paper bag. "He's been having some issues at school. Says watching your videos and stuff makes him feel better." Eddie smiled and rocked back and forth on his feet.
"Nah," He put his cheek to his shoulder and his hands in the pocket of his hoodie. "Sucks that shits happening to him. Looks like times haven't changed, huh?" Steve sighed and pursed his lips in a silent apology. "What's your name, pretty boy?" Eddie asked. Steve laughed and shook his head lightly as blood rushed to his face. God, he hadn’t felt like this in ages.
"Steve," He answered. Eddie stepped forward, leaving limited space between the two. Steve blinked, his legs feeling as though they were full of lead.
"Well, Steve." Eddie pulled something out of his pocket before reaching his arm through the space of Steve's arm and torso, slipping whatever was in his hand into the back pocket of Steve's jeans. He let his hand stay there a second, eyes not reaching Steve's, but rather trailing over each feature on his face. After what felt like forever, Eddie removed his hand. He patted Steve's hip. "An… Offer. If you want it." Eddie stared up at Steve through his eyelashes. Their height difference wasn't much, but it was enough for Eddie to have to turn his eyes upwards.
Eddie took a step back. Steve sighed.
"I have to return to my friends. They're probably wondering where I am." He took one last look, up and down, at Steve. "Hope that serves you well," Eddie smirked before he turned around and walked back towards the entrance of the restaurant.
Steve froze for a second before he reached into the pocket, still warm from Eddie's hand. He pulled out what the other had put in. It was a wad of paper. Confused, Steve unrolled it. There he found digits scribbled. Eddie had given him his number.
ROBIN BUCKLEY
"Night, Ed! Night Austin!" Robin called from down the hallway, receiving a couple of grumbled replies. She giggled to herself before she continued her way to her room. She got to the door, pulled out her key and let herself inside. There she found minimal lighting and a mound under the covers of the bed, some strawberry blonde hair peeking out from the top.
Robin shut the door as she sympathetically sighed. She put the pasta she'd saved for Chrissy, her favourite, on the vanity and quietly made her way over to Chrissy's side of the bed. Robin put a gentle hand on Chrissy's exposed shoulder.
"Chris? You awake?" She mumbled quietly. No response. Chrissy's cheeks were stained with tears and Robin bit her cheek. Why had Chrissy been crying? She wasn't feeling too good, Robin knew, but what had made her cry? She pushed Chrissy's hair behind her ear and stayed there for a moment before returning to the door where she took off her shoes and coat, accidentally knocking Chrissy's coat off of the hanger. It was a quiet sound, but still, Chrissy awoke.
"Robin?" She yawned as she sat up and turned to where the other was standing.
"Y-yeah. Sorry for waking you," Robin's apology was soft as she picked up the smaller coat. She paused for a moment after hanging it back up. "Chris? Were you... Crying?" Robin moved back towards the bed. She was never the best at this type of stuff. She never knew how to help people feel better, oftentimes she felt useless in these situations. But, her best friend was hurting, and she needed to try.
"No! Uh..." Chrissy pulled her knees to her chest before huffing defeatedly. "Yeah,"
"How come?" Robin sat down and shuffled closer to Chrissy, putting an arm around her waist and pulling her into a side hug. "You okay?" Chrissy sniffled and shook her head. "What's wrong?"
"Can't tell you." Chrissy put her forehead to her knees. "You'll hate me." Robin ran her hand along the shorter girl's back.
"I won't hate you, Chris. I could never hate you. I'm your best friend, you can tell me anything." Robin was even more concerned. Throughout the years Robin had known her, she’d never seen Chrissy this way, so full of self depreciation. The only time that had come close was just after her ex-boyfriend, Jason, broke up with her. But even then, she seemed more relieved than upset. Whatever was bugging her had to be serious. Chrissy was silent for a moment, the only sound in the room being the friction of Robin's hand on Chrissy's tank top.
"I think I like girls," Chrissy said. Robin's jaw almost dropped before she went to console her friend.
"Well, Chris, you know I'm a lesbian. Why would you think I’d-"
"I think I like you." Chrissy whimpered.
Oh.
"Chrissy... You're serious? You're not playing with me, right? Because this has happened before where a girl tells me they like me as a joke, or they think they like girls and want to use me as, like, the test to find out if they really do, and then turn around and--"
"I'm serious Rob, I just..." Chrissy let tears roll down her face once again and Robin unconsciously let herself wipe them away. "This is all so new to me and you're my best friend and I don't know how to feel." Robin frowned. She remembered her sexuality crisis in grade eight and how hard it was for her. She felt for Chrissy at this moment. Carefully she turned Chrissy around and pulled her onto her lap, grabbing the hands that covered the latter's face and moving them away. Robin smiled gently as she spoke.
"Hey," She started with. "It'll be okay, Chrissy. Trust me. It's hard for a while, I know." Robin brought Chrissy's head to her shoulder. They were silent for a moment until. "I like you too," Robin whispered. Chrissy gasped and pulled back, staring at Robin with surprise.
"You-- You do?" She gasped, staring up at Robin with big eyes. Robin took Chrissy's face into her hands pulling her in to leave a kiss on her forehead. Chrissy was a light shade of pink and less upset than before.
"I do. I have for a long time." Robin laughs. Chrissy smiles and lays her head back on Robin's shoulder. They stay there for a few minutes before it seems like Chrissy's about to fall asleep. Robin carefully took Chrissy out of her lap and laid her on the bed. "We'll talk about this in the morning, 'kay?" She said softly. Chrissy nodded and Robin smiled fondly. "I'll be right back." She pulled the blankets back over Chrissy's half-conscious body and she left to the bathroom before pulling out her phone.

After a few minutes, Eddie didn't reply. He must be sleeping, Robin thought.
When actually, Eddie was up making a few text messages of his own.

Sheriff's Daughter Pt.2
If you haven't read part 1, it's right here
Chapter 3 here
The pair had been walking for some time, eventually making it to the main road that lead into town, talking and learning about each other as they went.
Rambo learned that you lived with your parents in the town they were walking to, called Hope, and you frequently visited the less fortunate where they just were. He thought that was sweet.
You learned that the man beside you wasn't the most talkative person, but he did tell you a bit about himself when you asked. His name was John, John Rambo, a war veteran from Vietnam. He was here to try and meet up with a fellow soldier, Delmar he said, but it turned out he had passed away from cancer.
You had already known that from helping his wife, you just didn't know he was so close to him.
"I'm so sorry to hear that John." Your heart sank for him.
"Thank you, I just don't know where to go next."
"You can stay in Hope, I can help you," you started, "If I told my father about you I'm sure he'd help you too." You spoke enthusiastically, something John thought to be cute, but more realistically, it was probably just wishful thinking.
"Your enthusiasm is...refreshing," he started, "but not everyone is as kind as you are."
The two of you continued walking in silence for a while. It wasn't awkward like one would think. It was actually quite peaceful. You were able to walk in the company of one another while taking in the late autumn beauty that surrounded you, the occasional car passing you by. After more time had passed, you broke the silence.
"Hey John?"
"Yeah," came his reply.
"I have to turn soon to get home, kind of a back way into the neighborhood..." you paused, "I have to take care of my horse, but I'm going into town after, so maybe I'll see you there?" The truth was, you really wanted to see him again, you just didn't want to say it out loud.
John seemed to like that idea, or so you thought. He was a little harder to read to you, so you weren't sure.
The truth for him was, he really did like that idea, and he was about to bring it up. He didn't normally like spending time with others, but you? You made it easy.
"Yeah, I'll probably be getting some food if I can."
You assumed that was his way of inviting you to join him.
"That's a good thing you're hungry, I know the perfect place. I'll try to be quick so you don't get too bored," you said, giving him a bright smile.
"The perfect place, huh?" A small chuckle escaped him. "Yeah, I can do that."
You slowed your pace, eventually stopping so you could make your turn. You pointed ahead of you.
"See the bend in the road? Just beyond that is Hope. Just turn right. I'll meet you in front of the police station on the main road and then we can go eat together."
"Got it," he said, looking over at that bridge. He turned to look at you. "Thank you."
"It's my pleasure." You looked at him a moment longer before continuing. "I'll see you in a bit."
He nodded but kept his eyes on the road for a bit to make sure you were safe starting down your path before continuing on his own.
You got home fairly quick, not wanting John to wait too long without you. As you passed the pasture in your backyard, you saw your buckskin gelding, Bullet, happily munching on the rest of his breakfast alfalfa.
"Did dad feed you this morning?" you asked him. He just kept eating in response.
When you walked into the house, you noticed your father had already left for work. You wanted to do something nice for him for feeding Bullet, so you went outside to your small fruit trees and grabbed the fruit to bring to the police station. You quickly changed into a warmer outfit, since it was getting colder than you thought and you wanted to take Bullet into town.
'If I take Bullet, I can get to the police station faster and meet John,' you thought as you made your way out of the house and headed to your small barn to grab your steed.
You and Bullet made it to the main street, the police station in sight. You tied his lead rope to a post nearby and walked in with the fruit basket, automatically hearing a chorus of greetings from the officers there. You knew all of them from visiting so often for your dad, and often some would flirt with you. You tried to ignore it most of the time since to you, the only genuinely nice officer was Mitch, a younger redhead deputy.
"Hey, where's my dad?" you asked a group of officers.
"He went out in his car a while ago. Should be back soon," Mitch said walking closer to you. You offered him a small smile before opening your mouth to respond.
"Oh alright. I'll just -- "
"What have you got there little lady?" You turned to see Arthur Galt there, trying to see in your basket.
"It's just fruit, Arthur", you started, looking at him sternly. "and it's for my dad."
You were starting to stress out a bit. John was probably out there waiting for you while you were inside. You had to hurry this up.
"Well, Dad could be a while so I'll just leave these here for him. And don't eat all of them before he gets here please?" You asked, looking at Arthur and Mitch before beginning your journey toward the front doors.
It turned out you didn't have to wait for your dad much longer, as you saw him walking up from outside. The only problem was that John was with him. In handcuffs.
@akitasblogs @dumbasssimp Here it is! So sorry this took so long for part 2! My motivation is back so hopefully it stays long enough for me to get another part out

Weekly Update: Tired
As you may recall, last week I made myself busy on purpose so I’d be able to relax my last two weeks before graduation…well the first week has come and went and I haven’t been able to rest at all, not for a moment. I mean yeah can rest when I’m on a call with my girlfriend but that’s it, it’s been exhausting to exist. But I’m forcing myself to go on…and this week I did do a lot of fun things so I wanna focus more on the positive instead of the negative.
Firstly, I’ve been trying to listen to my CDs more as I have a large collection of them. I also use YouTube Music but there is something very intimate about physical media. Don’t ask why the star rating for this album is so low, my computers media player did it like that and wouldn’t let me change it, I love all the music by Lamp so I certainly would’ve given the album at least four stars! I have a lot of cleaning to do today but this upcoming week I plan to mess around with rainmeter’s and even make myself a custom theme possibly! I’ll show everyone how that looks if I end up doing it, hopefully I do!

This week I had to give a poetry reading for my queer studies class and it was part of our larger interview project, which we interviewed a gay elder and archived our interview with them. It was incredible to work with such huge archives and even more incredible to work with my informant and friend, Omar. I don’t have many photos from that day but I did bring my girlfriend down to campus with me to meet Omar and also as morale support cause this class is super late and super long. Before class started she drew on my drawing tablet and drew both Towa and that adorable Towa kitten! I legit squealed when I saw this and had to take a photo, I love her art, it’s so cute! Also if you adore her art and want more, go check out her tumblr. @diced-sugar ! Follow her or ELSE HEHEHEHE

As some of you may or may not know, I’m a fiend for tea. It’s so fucking good. I love tea, even when it’s super hot I still manage to have 1-5 cups a day! Tea just makes me happy, it’s so nice. I also love the act of drinking it, it’s an intentional drink. You have to take your time with it unlike most other drinks…and I like that it forces me to slow down a bit. I love tea and I love all my cute tea mugs. Honestly I may love my tea collection more than my figure collection which is saying something since I have like nearly all of my dream figures lol.
This Thursday it was my girlfriend’s dad‘s birthday! My girlfriend’s parents are so kind to me and their children and I was invited out to his birthday dinner! I love fish but regardless of the restaurant I would have went since I love my gfs family a lot, my family can be very mean and incredibly judgmental but my gfs family in turn is very accepting and it’s such a jarring difference between the two, I’m still getting used to being myself around people who aren’t my cats, gf, or my tumblr mutuals. I’m so used to at least holding back large portions of myself so I’m more palatable, but I’m trying to be more open with her family! We got sushi and I ordered a Chirashi bowl minus the eel since I may be allergic? That or I just had bad eel that one time, but I wasn’t going to test that theory at my gf’s dad’s birthday and ruin it with a hospital trip, lol. Everything in this bowl was delicious and I have been dreaming about raw fish ever since lol.

I really enjoy mornings as my cats are always excited when I wake up and can feed them again! I’m kidding, they just really like sitting near me and cuddling me when I’m awake. My cat Sasha always lays on the back of the couch right behind my head first thing in the morning. It’s super cute…

I’m so tired, but I can take comfort in the fact that all of this is almost over. At least this week. This upcoming week may be just as bad…but I won’t know till I have lived it. Who knows, maybe it’ll be better? I can’t know until I’ve made that passage of time. Also! Considering I’m graduating this upcoming Sunday, I was thinking of holding my update post until Monday so I can talk about graduation instead of waiting a whole week before talking about it! My ceremony is at 6 pm and honestly we’ll probably get home super late and with everything…I may just wanna shower, get in my pjs, and crash! But I know no matter what, I’ll be like this iconic queen here, I’ll be okay.
Now for music! I’ve been mainly listening to my goth playlist this week but…I’ve been very into Duran Duran this week! They’re very nostalgic to me as I’d listen to them with my mom even when I was really young! Of course I think some of there songs are just plain bad but they have even more bangers. I love so many of their songs but I wanted to highlight New Religion as it’s just really fun + my cats also seem to like it, whenever I play it and they’re not in the room they come running to my door and begging to get in lol
youtube
THE ANDS are a Japanese band that did a few of the songs for Slow Damage, but unlike Anna Evan’s Golden Folks which was a collaboration band made just for the game…THE ANDS are a real band! (The lead singer of Anna Evan’s Golden Folks is a singer tho, you can find her under IIyo). But THE ANDS are incredible, they also released a single version of After All that has a bigger rock influence than the original version! But I wanted to talk about Dumm…it’s incredible, genuinely this song needs to be pumped into my veins, I need it inside me!!!
youtube
I watched a lot of really great video essays this week but some of them were more loaded in their topics so I wanted to recommend the best video essay I watched but I also wanted to recommend a chill video! I really love Emirichu’s videos, especially her collab cafe ones, I’ve rewatched them a bunch and as such I wanted to highlight her newest one!
youtube
Next I saw this video recommended in my feed for a hot minute and finally decided to bite. I watch a lot of horror movies and I really enjoy when the genre does something interesting with the concepts of gender, but more often than not many horror movies are just bored…they’ll have a one liner moment that the director put in to be like “see I’m not misogynistic!” and then we watch an hour or longer of women being tortured. I’m not even saying you can’t women as your protagonists in horror. I’m certainly not saying that, nearly all of my favorite horror films (Nope, Perfect Blue, House (1977), US, Midsummer, Hereditary, and Audition) star or have prominent female characters. What I am saying is many directors want to commodify horrific experiences that women go through and sell it back to them. That’s essentially what this video essay is about, it’s very worth watching I mean it!

"Hold still." Deanna held the side of Sam's face, an eye between her finger and thumb. She looked sort of funny like this, with the top and lower waterline exposed, like a bug on one side. Deanna pressed the pencil to the lower line gently, and Sam flinched. "Come on, it's not that hard."
"You're gonna poke my eyes out," Sam complained, her lips forming a pout Deanna knew was unintentional. Cute.
Her fingers pressed harder, practically forcing the eye into place as she finished up that side. "You asked me to do this," she teased. "No complaining."
"Fine, fine."
Deanna had one thigh on either side of Sam's waist, and god was it a nice view. She rested a hand between her collarbones, just above the line of Sam's sports bra. The column of Sam's neck stayed extended, chin tilted up so Deanna could manhandle her face. Deanna thought her coltish limbs looked delicate as they lay at her sides. "I don't think you need it, for the record."
Sam chuckled. "You don't have to bullshit me. I know what I look like, and so does everyone else."
She put the pencil down. The warm brown did make Sam's eyes look good, the green brighter with the dark frame. "Those kids are fucking stupid, and so are you," she sighed.
"Look, I'm not saying I don't know why," Sam bulldozed her. "I like my hair off my ears, I dress like a goddamn lesbian, but it'd be...nice, you know? To have someone be interested."
"Shh," Deanna pressed a finger to Sam's lips. "You're so pretty."
"Uh huh."
"No, really," Dean leaned down to get closer, running her fingers down her neck. She pressed a playful kiss to Sam's jaw. "If I were a guy, I wouldn't be able to leave you alone."
Sammy snorted, but Deanna saw the way her ears went red.
"Why don't we pretend?"
That got her a raised eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
"You want to know what it's like to get some attention, right? I'll be your boyfriend," Deanna winked, overly cheesy. "Come on, it'll be fun."
"...Okay," Sam agreed.
Deanna started by nosing under Sam's ear, inhaling her shampoo. She pressed a slow kiss to the skin there, giving it a gentle bite. "My baby," she cooed. "I'm gonna take such good care of you."
Sam's cheek was hot against the side of her face, and Deanna heard the little breath she let out. "So gorgeous," she hummed, giving Sam another one. The desire to make a mark was a little surprising, but Deanna held back from it. She'd spare Sam the interrogation from Dad.
Sammy hadn't stopped her yet. She ghosted her hand over one of her tits. "Look at these, hm? So cute."
"Cute?" Sam asked her, incredulous. "I don't want guys calling my tits cute."
"But they are," Deanna pouted at her, squeezing one. "See? It's a perfect handful."
"Yeah, there's another way to say small."
"Shut up." Deanna pulled the fabric down. Christ, her nipples were cute too, brown-pink and stiffening. She took the exposed one in her mouth.
"Mh-" Sam's body jerked in surprise. "Dee, cut it out that's-"
She separated her lips from it, looking up innocently. "They're too pretty, Sammy, I had to. Just one more second, okay?"
"Fine," she nodded. Deanna had a feeling Sam would go along with anything, if Deanna just asked her nicely.
And back she went, this time giving it a gentle suck. She ran her tongue over the bud, and found her hips threatening to rock over Sam's waist.
"Shit, that's intense...ah..." Deanna felt Sam's stomach moved as her hips shifted too. "Okay, okay, too much..."
Deanna came off this time with a shit-eating grin. "Better when you just shut up, huh?"
"Oh, fuck off." Sam's face had gone really red.
"I could suck your tits all day. They're so cute. I can't believe no one's done this before. Makes me feel special, really." Deanna pulled the bottom band of the bra up, over Sam's chest, until the whole thing sat sort of scrunched between her armpits. "If I were you, I'd never put these away." She gripped the other one in her hand, giving the nipple a teasing lick.
"Yours are better," Sam complained, her voice going breathier.
"I'm a guy, remember?" Deanna brushed her thumb over it, moving the bud in little circles.
"Right, right," Sam nodded. She was really squirming.
Deanna shifted down, moving a thigh between Sammy's pyjama-clad legs. "This'll be better than the air."
"For what?"
Deanna laughed. "Don't be shy, baby, I've seen you with that pillow. Let yourself feel good."
"A guy wouldn't have seen me," Sam protested weakly, instinctively rutting against Deanna's leg. Like a puppy, Deanna thought. Sam's crotch was noticeably hotter than the thigh thighs bracketing Deanna's own.
Deanna traced the sides of Sam's lean torso, over her navel that usually only peeked out when she stretched. Only Deanna had gotten to see her like this. "Every part of you is pretty." Her fingers ran over the soft, sparse hair on Sam's lower stomach. She ran two under the flannel waistband, then the waistband of Sam's underwear, feeling the top of a mass of coarse hair.
She started shifting her thigh in time with Sam, who had started letting out faster, whinier breaths. "More..." Sam sighed, and Deanna looked up to find her eyes practically glazed over.
"Of course, Sammy. Off with these, it'll help." She pulled at the waistband of Sam's pyjama pants for emphasis, moving her leg for ease of removal.
Sam got herself out of them awkwardly, her body thrumming with impatience. Her panties had a dark patch, and Deanna couldn't help but rub her fingers over it.
"Mmh..." Sam whined. Deanna had walked in on her humping a pillow or giving herself a few fingers plenty, but she'd never seen her quite like this. Sam really was beautiful. Who the fuck was passing up opportunities to see this?
She pressed her fingertips into the top of the patch, guessing at where Sam's clit was. Deanna, for all her experience, hadn't done this before, but it couldn't be that different from herself. It was no different, in practice, from finding someone's belly button under their shirt.
"Fuck," Sam's back arched. "Do that more."
"So demanding," Deanna teased, her own voice wavering. It was getting harder and harder to ignore the heat between her legs, and she mounted Sam's slender thigh.
She kept pressing her fingers down, rubbing circular motions through the fabric. It probably would've been better for Sam skin-to-skin, but that's what finally felt like a bridge too far. (Living on top of each other, she'd seen Sam's pussy plenty of times, but she hadn't touched it.)
Deanna let herself have relief, shamelessly grinding on her sister's thigh. She groaned, making sure she kept paying attention to Sammy. Now almost twenty, Deanna liked to say she was past dry humping, but this friction was delicious. And as much as she liked sex, this was refreshing; there was no pornstar moaning, no careful attention to the way her body was positioned, no rambling about how this cock was different from any other goddamned cock she'd taken (it almost never was).
Sam only panted faster, pressed herself into Deanna more desperately, whispered for more and instructed her do it harder and don't stop and most excitingly, please please pleasepleaseplease. Deanna never got a please.
She rocked her own hips faster, electricity sparking up to her navel, her face hot. It was admittedly clumsy, especially to keep her hand going at the same time.
Sammy didn't seem to mind. She went still eventually, hips in the air, and groaned, her thighs subtly shaking. It wasn't a big event, but Deanna knew she came. "Good," she breathed out, " that's a good girl."
Mercifully, Sam didn't move away as Deanna kept grinding on her. She'd gotten so wet playing with Sam, and it wouldn't have surprised her if Sam's thigh was slick, even through the fabric of Deanna's panties. She caught Sam looking at her with wide, soft eyes, down to her pussy and up through her tank top. It didn't take too much longer before she came, lights going off behind her eyes and a strangled noise escaping her throat. She rolled off of Sam and collapsed on her back.
Sam looked stunned. Deanna squeezed her hand.
"You're beautiful, got it?"
Sam blinked slowly, her voice soft and strained. "I. I got it."

March Blessings For You 🍃🐇🍀
Sup y'all, welcome back to another pick a card reading. Rabbit rabbit for everyone as we head into March. Hope you enjoyed a good leap day and are excited to let the winter melt away into spring. I'm looking forward to changing things up around here.
I have finally decided on what my next tarot game will be about this month, so stay tuned within the following week or two. This game will likely not be as extensive as my last one, but it will last longer than my first game so more can join. I'm excited for this one, it'll definitely be more for fun. I'll send out a notice before I start it!
Today's pick a card reading is simply about what kind of blessings will be available for you this month. Here are the three piles to choose:
Pile 1 - Exquisite Emerald Pile 2 - Pure Turquoise Pile 3 - Jade Mountain

Pile 1

Emerald and Milk Thistle, Rescue, Avocado - Prosperity, The In-Between, 13 - Awareness; Knight of Swords, XX Judgement, Ace of Cups, 8 of Swords, 6 of Cups
How's it going, group 1? "Heal the Healer." I'm sensing that many consider you, or you consider yourself, to be a big helper for loved ones in daily life. The term "mom/dad friend" might sound familiar to you. Someone others can rely on, you're seen as a solid supportive friend in their regular troubles. Even with simple things like helping a friend move from their apartment, or getting a classmate's grade up in a class you excel with. At work, you may be the person others call on to take the extra shift. Sometimes, it was necessary, they had to take their pet in for an emergency. Other times, they just wanted a vacation and didn't really notice how taxing it was to ask so much from you.
Pile 1, March is the month to turn the tables around in time for the change of the season. "Help others in need or ask for assistance when you need it." You have the chance to ask someone else to help you out the same way you are often asked to help. March will bless you with the feeling of "having your back." The universe has been watching you struggle and is preparing your table for rewards to be served fresh. This help will likely come once you begin moving into a transitory phase. See how the Awareness card looks symmetrical to the In-Between card? These cards together remind me of the Moon card. You're in a state where one cycle has ended and another is beginning, you're already in that first phase so to speak. This space is full of uncertainty, and it's important to not listen to projections that speak of things as though they're going to happen just because they've happened before. The 6 of Cups involves overthinking about the past, assuming that things will be the same as they were before.
Allow the prosperous energy from Avocado to clarify the 8 of Swords here. You may be feeling stuck and unsure of where you're life is going next, but you know you can't enter the next chapter of your life worn out before you're even out of bed. Awareness features moonstone and mugwort on the card. You're being asked to pay attention to your dreams. Imagine what kind of prosperous things have happened in your past, and what kind of prosperity is available for you in the future, just before you fall asleep at night, then journal your dreams. Symbols may reveal themselves over time to give you clues for your conscious mind to consider. Your subconscious mind wants to help you with your stress, if that makes any sense, as it uses images and not words to speak.
Emerald is Venusian energy, and avocados are creamy enough to be made into dessert (ever had a chocolate avocado "cheese"cake? I have, it was actually very good!) March wants to bless you with a little indulgence. Ace of Cups says you will experience a lot of spiritual and emotional replenishment if you make it a focus to do so this month. If things are slow now, consider it a time of peace and budding opportunity. You may not be used to getting some needed rest if you're helping others out more, but the advice here is to take the time off as it comes, and make an intention to relax. Judgement card reminds you that the pace will pick up again soon, so enjoy some down time when you get it this March. Put some of that avocado on toast and enjoy your breakfast. Your body and soul will thank you.
Pile 2

Turquoise and Forget-Me-Not, Communicate, Artichoke - Renewal, Level Up, 9 - Self-Acceptance; 10 of Wands, Queen of Swords, I Magician, 10 of Swords, X Wheel of Fortune
Hey, pile 2. Hope you're doing well. I got a little concerned while shuffling the Earth Wisdom cards when the whole deck slipped and made a loud "thunk" on my table, right next to where the cracks in the Turquoise card. Do some of you live in a loud place, or near angry people who yell and slam doors? The dragon's face on the 10 of Wands looks like they're sick of hearing their neighbors upstairs. For others of you, this cracking is more internally. Do you feel as though you may be cracking under some kind of pressure at work or school? You may even be feeling the urge to let out a fiery rage breath as well.
The Turquoise card says "Balance". See the man rock climbing beside the cracks? It's easy to imagine he can keep going without stopping to catch his breath, but wouldn't that make him like Superman? This month, you'll be able to see exactly what you're capable of. You're recognizing your own talents and strengths. This is a month of learning how to do your best without wearing yourself thin, and it's because you're getting a more accurate picture of what you can do. It's like singing while having noise cancelling headphones in, so you can't hear yourself. March's blessing will take those headphones off so you can hear for yourself how good you sound. You'll see that you were trying harder than necessary. You can take a step back while still moving forward.
Turquoise is a stone well known in many cultures, but I personally read it as a stone of friendship. You'll be blessed with a good friendship or important connection, someone you can confide in with trust. "Things left unsaid will never reach the shore." With Queen of Swords, you're becoming more discretionary about your boundaries and who you speak with. You may have been going through troubles that are hard to talk about. The dragon's mouth is wrapped shut; it may have been a struggle even when you tried, as though you were scared of what your friend would think. Remember, pile 2, that a real friend will want to see you happy, will accept you for who you are, and will cheer you on as you climb to the top. Don't be afraid for long and much needed conversations in March, for as long as you approach it like the Queen here, a good talk will strengthen a relationship. And absolutely talk to someone if you're in need of immediate help, like with relocation.
March may be the start of a "phoenix" season for you, where you will have a gradually unfolding but nevertheless significant period of your life. See the subtle rainbow on the "100"? It was unintentional, the card reacted to my suncatcher and the rainbow just happened to land there glowing. If you're starting at a bottom, pile 2, then you're only going up from here, even if with some scars. Artichokes are actually immature flowers. The past cycle in your life may have felt "incomplete". March will be the beginning of you getting a second chance to let something like a project come into full bloom. Fun side note, but apparently March 16th is National Artichoke Day (in the US). So be on the lookout for an opportunity coming in for you around the 16th. It could be small, but it may be something that brings you into spring's energy of renewal and positive change. Don't forget to stay in touch with people who care about you this month, pile 2, because an outing with them could become a transformative experience for the both of you.
Pile 3

Jade and Pink Lotus, Generosity, Kale - Dedication, Letting Go, 21 - Shadow Treasures; XXI The World, 5 of Swords, XVI The Tower, XX Judgement, VIII Strength
Hello, group 3! March will be a refreshingly easy going month for you if you make the choice to kick back. You are "sinking into silence" after a long and very difficult time in your life. You, out of all three piles, desire to move forward with the year more than anyone. The silence in the jade card feels welcome. The change is long overdue and feels inevitable, so why rush to the starting line of a race? Especially after just finishing a few strenuous laps in the woods. This is a month-long sigh of relief. A quiet, easygoing time will be your primary blessing in March. Jade is bringing much due healing energy for you. Allow yourself the chance to meditate upon the time you've just experienced, as self-reflection can help us clear the way for us to see better.
I can't help but notice the way in which your cards form a picture of a tree falling apart. The leaves give way to autumn, as the trunk of the old fall maple tree lights up from the storms of change. At the roots, however, we see beauty still alive underneath. It shows that the same potential lies beneath, even if situations can look hopeless. Conflict was overgrowing around the tree, sapping it of its vitality. To let go and rebuild was the only way around it, to protect the delicate root system it had to downsize. A lot of growth will come from how you use this time now, because the last phase gave way for new seeds to grow. These seeds will no doubt benefit from what good was left behind, as it was ultimately meant to be shared and not kept hidden forever.
If this feels too abstract, I will liken it to decluttering the house. You may be in the mood to do that as well this month, and March may bless you with a more organized house. This is also a decluttering of old systems, thoughts, and behaviors that no longer work for you, letting you move ahead with a clean slate. If a messy house has been an issue for you, someone might come to help you sort it out, even spirit guidance kind of help. If clearing old things away is difficult, you'll be guided through it. You may have the opportunity to give old unwanted stuff away and even find something that you've been searching for a long time. "Where has that been?" It might not be easy to get started at first but it'll soon become much welcomed change once you notice the difference.
You have the word "treasure" show up twice in your reading. "What good is treasure if you keep it for yourself?" You may something special within yourself that gets discovered as you move through this month. It's a part of you that has gone unnoticed. But when things get quiet, the tiniest things become more noticeable. Things left unspoken creep out from the shadows. I actually don't see you going through shadow work this period, if anything you're walking from it the way a hero puts on sunglasses and walks away from a Michael Bay explosion without looking back. You've been like kale here, hardy in the face of a freezing winter, staying green in faith that spring will bring warmth and light soon enough. Some people don't believe kale has any nutritional value, but that's because they tastelessly judge from a distance. Once you unearth your own shadow treasures from your roots, don't be shy to share your gift with others. You might, like kale, become the next trend.
